The SM-G9550 (Chinese/Hong Kong variant) does have an unlockable bootloader and there is a custom recovery by TWRP available. You will find the Snapdragon S8+ TWRP thread in the cross platform forum. Only the SM-G9550 dual sim chinese S8's have unlockable bootloaders. This ROM is for that specific variant SM-G9550.

I'm thinking of buying the Axon 7, but I'd like to unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP and flash CM (when it'll be released). Will I be able to do this with all variants, or will I need a specific one? As a follow up - how do I tell which model number is for a certain variant - for example, the first Axon on Amazon (can't link, it's the gold one for $399.98) is model A7G333, which I haven't seen here on XDA.
If something's not clear, please tell me and I'll clarify (English isn't my first language).
You can do it with all variants unofficially!
Root using this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/wip-axon-7-root-bootloader-unlokced-t3441204
Unlock bootloader after using this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/how-to/guide-how-to-unlock-bootloader-stay-t3461165
The USA version should be model A2017U
The EU version should be model A2017G
The China version should be model A2017

That's awesome, thanks so much! Looks like I'll be getting an Axon the moment a stable build of CM is released
Dont forget there are official bootloader unlocks as well if you ask ZTE!

Hey all, I'm new to the s7 edge forums and trying to find which rom to flash. My phone says I have the 935v model...but I can't seem to find any roms that support it. I have the US Verizon retail model. Am I reading it wrong? I see roms for 935f and other variations. How should I be reading the model number so that I flash the right rom (and twrp). Thanks again!

Download ROM from the Verison forum. Snapdragon ones have locked bootloaders, which means no twrp. You also can't use the roms posted for exynos. You would have to root using eng-boot, and then use Flashfire to flash rom that is designed for 935v.
Follow guide here first to root:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s7/how-to/how-to-notes-root-install-xposed-unroot-t3411039
Install Flashfire
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.flash
Download Rom of your choice, save zip to external sd, then go to flashfire and flash the zip.

Where would one look for g935u roms that can be flashed with flashfire? Everything I find about the u is flashing the u firmware on other variants to achieve root. Sorry I've spent hours looking for something and either I'm dumb or there isn't anything. :head bang:

Hello guys,
I am analysing an upgrade from my Moto x Pure Edition to a Galaxy S8.
I read that there are a lot of different models.
As I know, I'm 2 years my phone will become Android obsolete so I am used to take custom ROMs, etc.
So, here is the question.
1) What's the difference between the 950F and 950, what is available in Brazil?
2) Can I flash a 950F custom ROM to 950? I am worried because I haven't seen any 950 custom here.
3) is the exyos version a trouble for custom ROMs? Should I import a Snapdragon version?
Thanks in advance.

If I am correct, Brazil has the SM-G950FD - It's a variant of the SM-G950F with double SIM support. I'm not clear on custom rom support for them, but I've got Nemesis V1.0 working on my G950FD

"After being tested by XDA Senior member me2151, it turns out cross region flashing does work. Prince Comsy Odin is working, but we can not test if the factory binary flashing will hard brick your phone. So flashing US unlocked onto a US carrier device should work."

Oh, so Verizon to T-Mobile swap is fine.
Thanks for the heads up!
Whilst your post is is informative, I hope you will excuse me being a little pedantic, if the phone is "hard bricked" it can't be fixed and conversely if it cab be fixed then generally that would be considered "soft bricked".

So far it CAN'T be fixed, so for now consider it a hard brick.
And stop arguing semantics when we are trying to actually help people and warn them before they brick their phones.
Very scary. Prevents Comsey ODIN from working?
Source : Portal of XDA
https://www.xda-developers.com/samsung-galaxy-s8-note8-bootloader-odin/
So does it apply to the international model too? If I get a G955F from Germany and flash a XEU firmware, it will brick?
I Have a doubt here. I am in a unlocked tmobile firmware on oreo beta. I was planning to flash unlocked firmware to it. so my question is
1) If i flashed unlocked US firmware G955U1 to G955U now, will it hardbrick after BLv3 update.
2)If i flashed now and updated to Blv3 after G955U1 will it be stuck to that firmware forever?
Thanks
xdanilva said:
This applies to all American/Snapdragon and Exynos S8, S8+ and Note 8 models once BLv3 comes out for those models.
If you flashed a out of region firmware such as G955W, G955F, G955FD etc.
Flash back to your original model firmware or you'll be hard bricked. I'll post updates about the hard brick part. There's some news developing about how to fix the hard brick.

How to find out the Bootloader Version?
If it says 3 before your baseband number. Example from note 8 3BRA8. The note 8 already got patched.

1.) Yes
2.) You would get a non standard hardbrick. You would be stuck in Emergency Download Mode. You can't flash back to g955u even with standard Odin.

You can flash a different carrier firmware you can't flash a firmware from a different phone model.

Another question please.
I have 955FD model and i have flashed DBT 955F firmware.
As i can see in sammobile there is 955FD firmware and it's the same as 955F.
I will be ok or not?

Does this only affect U.S. models or will this affect all models? Also, does this mean there will be no more rooting these devices or can you still root them as long as your phone didn't originally have v3? I.e., the modders can still build versions of the new modified firmware with v3 replaced with the old one? Or will those of us who want to keep our root have to just never ever update (through flashing)?
I'm sorry... this means we can't install custom firmware after this ? what i can do now to prevent this ? i have 955FD and not installed custom firmware or root yet... i want to be able to install custom firmware ... what can i do ?
Seems that Samsung reads XDA as well.... Targeted "security patch"... ?
Sent from my SM-G955W ??
What could be the reasons for anyone to flash another region firmware / ROM? Just curious.
Anyway im safe because i use G955F ROMs (my device is G955F) from the beginning and plan to do so in future, right?

Although an excellent choice, but I bought a Pixel 2 XL from Google.
Ported from the Qualcomm variant using https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/guide-porting-twrp-source-t3843473. Tested on J320AG, but it should work on A and AZ. Flash using Odin.
