ok well i've been using adb for a while now via windows on our desktop, my laptop however runs ubuntu. but i've run into a problem.....I CAN'T OPEN ADB IN LINUX! using terminal i navigate to the proper location then i initiate adb shell but i get an error saying the command doesn't exist...what am i doing wrong?
tried ./adb ?
if you haven't added ADB to path it won't be recognized as a command, then you'd have to execute it using ./adb
Hi, adb
is located in <android-sdk-folder>/platform-tools folder. You could add it into your $PATH variable in .bashrc . Than it's ready to use from anywhere
First of all, I have the T-Mobile G2 with the Gingerbread OTA update. I am running Ubuntu 11.10 on a netbook. I have tried to follow the instructions for rooting my phone, but I am getting stuck trying to install the Google USB driver in the SDK manager. Any suggestions on how to get past this roadblock?

no need for usb drivers in linux
you have to be sure that you are su on your pc... (i have fedora)
i think ubunto it´s sudo, isn´t it?
and before you can see your device through adb you have to type "./adb kill-server" and then "./adb start-server"
... then "./adb devices" and so on
Thanks. I tried ./adb devices and it gave me the following:
List of devices attached
???????????? no permissions
???????????? no permissions
Since I do not see a serial number, do I need to re-install something?

no that happens because you are not root on your pc...
in fedora i have to do the following to see my device:
su (enter)
then enter password
i get this symbol: # = means i´m root on my pc
then i go to my platform-tools directory (cd whatever)
./adb kill-server
./adb start-server
./adb devices ...now you should see your device
then start the rooting procedure, good luck
Use 'sudo su' in ubuntu to get a root prompt.
otherwise you have to set a 51-android.rules file (instructions here http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/device.html)
-Nipqer
I managed to install the drivers but how do I open the shell? I want to access some lost files.
I followed the instructions but adb_usb.ini was nowhere to be found so I had to create it.
I have to control ADB via cmd.exe right? Anyone can guide me?

Ok, to get to a shell on the Nook you have to use a shell on the host computer.
In Windows, a shell is known as cmd.exe, "MS-DOS Prompt" or command.
That's the (by default) black window with text.
You can start a Windows shell through the Program list if a shortcut already exists.
If not, you can start it by holding down the Windows key, hitting "R" and typing cmd.exe in the box.
The little box is in a sense already a shell, but it makes a bigger looking shell.
The program adb.exe is the one that you will run to interact with your Nook.
You will have to either be in the same directory as where adb.exe or else have that directory in your PATH.
There are a bunch of commands that you can use (documented in the second link above).
You must first tell ADB how to connect to your device through either a "connect" (for WiFi) or "usb".
Once you are connected you can issue the other commands.
Code:
adb shell
This will let your Windows shell access a shell on your Nook.
Since this is an entirely different system, the commands are different.
In Windows, to list files you type "dir", in Linux (the basis of Android), you type "ls".
I can get to the directory of adb.exe on command.
I don't get it what am I supposed to do next.
If I run adb.exe it starts to load something and then nothing. The Nook is connected, it has Noogie as it's CWR.
After running adb.exe what do I do? Do I go to the nook directory or something? The thing is that I don't even know if I'm running ADB correctly. I followed everything on the wiki

Um, Clockwork Recovery and Noogie are two separate and unrelated things.
Code:
C:\>adb usb
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
At that point it will either say that it found a USB device or that it didn't.
If it's connected, you can type "adb shell".
On Windows, when you click on the USB icon on the taskbar it will list what is connected.
Normally with CWR you should see two lines, USB Mass Storage and ADB.

I think you forgot to mention that this is only for Windows. So it does not work for Linux or Mac.
Quick, fast, no frills, just the necessary files itself. Hopefully this thread gets updated whenever a new release comes up
thanks, nice share bro :good:
how to use those files
I thank you for the files but... how are we supposed to use them. I ask since I'm new to adb. And need this vision of adb to sideload to my fire hd6

open a command window and change directory to the folder where adb.exe is installed. Then you can use adb commands. Commands syntax is as follow:
Code:
adb [target] <command>
You only need to specify the [target] if you have more than 1 android device or emulator connected simultaneously, otherwise the command will be directed to the only connected device, so the syntax will be:
Code:
adb <command>
So if you want to sideload a rom to your device, boot in your custom recovery and start the "sideload" mode.
In the command window:
Code:
adb sideload my_rom.zip
Don't forget that the rom.zip must be in the same folder where adb.exe is
If you want to use "adb push" instead of "adb sideload" then boot in custom recovery (not in sideload mode) and use the following command:
Code:
adb push my_rom.zip /sdcard
You can read more about adb commands here: http://developer.android.com/tools/help/adb.html#issuingcommands
adb sideload explained here: http://android-revolution-hd.blogspot.in/2013/12/ow-to-use-adb-sideload.html
If you have more question about what file to sideload or push a rom to your device, you should ask in the correct forum, Amazon Fire HD 6 forum is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-hd
thank u
save my day

go to this website: https://fl1.androidfilehost.com/dl/...803384/minimal_adb_fastboot_v1.3.1_setup.exe?
download and install it to your computer, then try to sideload it through there.
if that doesn't work just download the stand alone SDK from the android studio website and after its downloaded, open the .rar file and extract it to a new folder to your desktop. after that open it and search for a folder that says platform tools and look for the ADB .exe file and copy it, then go to your C drive and go to programs and try to find the android studio folder, when you have located it open it and look for a folder named platform tools, then delete the adb.exe in that folder and paste the new one in there or you can probably just copy the whole platform tools folder and replace the other one in the C drive.
I hope this helps, if it doesnt just message me and im sorry for the late reply.

this usually means the phone is not communicating with your PC.
- either your phone is corrupt
- the connection is corrupt
- or the cable is bad
Tip: add the path of ADB.exe to your system Environment Variables, so you can call it w/out first navigating to it.
- Right click Computer > Properties > Advanced system settings
- Environment Variables ... > edit "Path" by adding the path to ADB.exe.
ie.
Windows 10 x64, i simply add: D:\PortableApps\ADB
for other Windows, you may have to add to the end of "Path", click edit > scroll to the end > add ;D:\PortableApps\ADB;
(don't forget to add the semicolon at the end)
Now you can simply launch Command Prompt and enter: ADB sideload *file*

Not working on Android 6.0
This and older versions will not work on Samsung S7E for system backup and restore.
It accepts the commands, but the confirmation popup supposed to open on the device never does. For a few 6.0 users on other devices, it opened up but the backups were not really completed.
thanks bro. nice share :good:
Thanks, you save me too much time!!
my adb was working fine for my Note 4. I followed the instructions to upgrade bootloader
https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...t/howto-bootloader-unlock-upgrade-to-t3398144
Now, I keep getting device offline when used adb devices command. Do you think, upgrading ADB will solve this? thank you
I'm trying to sideload a pandora apk and i'm running into an adb error that i don't understand.
Steps taken:
adb installed on PC
drivers installed on PC
phone has USB debugging ON
phone connected via USB to PC
adb devices: shows my device attached properly
adb shell generates a prompt: "OnePlus6T:/$
pm install -i "com.android.vending" -r /sdcard/download/pandora.apk
The last command to install generates the following error: <avc: denied (read) for scontext=u:r:system_server:s0... (see attached screenshot).
I've tried different locations such as /sdcard/pandora.apk and tried different apk files with the same result.
Thoughts?
