Is the auto cache cleaner is good? - Xiaomi Redmi 2 Questions & Answers

I don't understand why xiaomi has added a feature of 'auto cache cleaner' in miui 9. According to
Many online sites, cache clearing degrades battery performance and further decreases the battery level instead of saving it... please read the following page..
https://www.cnet.com/how-to/why-you-should-stop-closing-apps-to-save-battery-life/
I wanted to ask that, is xiaomi doing good by implementing this feature. Also, the battery saving profile in miui8 (security app) also enables the cache clearing in lockscreen by default...is it ok to leave it alone?

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S5 Issues

hi guys, I've heard about this forum from various youtube channels that deal with Android and it's a very cool website full of guys who know what they are doing! keep up the good work. I recently got a samsung galaxy s5 and i've been enjoying it except for the fact that I'm facing a just a few challenges that I hope you can help me overcome.
1. I read that ART was faster than Dalvik, and I always want better performance, so I changed my runtime to ART. After a day on ART, I really didn't see any improvements at all, so I went back to Dalvik. When I checked my available storage after switchback, I noticed that I was missing about 500mb of my storage. Yesterday I was looking through screenshots of the Titanium backup app and noticed that you could clear the ART/Dalvik cache. Do you think that missing memory unaccounted for is ART cache? If so, please tell me how to clear it up. Possibly without rooting my device.
2. My battery life. I have the battery doctor app installed and whenever I "tap to save battery", there are always some apps that it says are open, like s note, bbm, vine, playstore, google newstand, etc. even when I dont open these apps. I guess they're running in the background. Could this be a cause of battery drainage? If so, please tell me how to fix it. And do battery saving apps actually help?
3. Is it normal to get about 4 hours and a couple of mins of screen on time with a fully charged battery? Cause I think I should get more. I know that the screen uses up the most power and I try to keep it on the lowest possible brightness when I use whatsapp, tweet and scroll through my gallery which I do a lot during the course of a day.
Thanks in advance for your help.

[pros and cons of android runtime (art)][also how to enable it]

So as we know ART(Android Run-Time) is the new runtime introduced by Google to replace Dalvik( this is just to ensure that Google is a female as it displays its trait of dumping ) and is currently very expermetal and has high risk of bugs. So, let's not waste much time.
Note - As of now the pros are very limited(i.e. the results are very limited or the changes are not much effective)
PROS :-
1) Saves battery life.
2) Increases the overall speed.
3) Has high potential.
CONS :-
1) Not all apps are supported as of now(i.e. many apps will crash as they are not ompatible with ART)
2) App compression is not effective as compared to Dalvik i.e. storage space required for apps is more.
How to enable ART :-
Enabling ART is a complete cakewalk. Just go to settings and then About Phone. There keep on tapping on Build Number until you get the toast that 'You Are Now A Developer' and 'Developer Options' is enabled in the Settings menu. Now simply go to Developer Options and change the runtime to ART from 'Select Runtime' menu. So you have now enable ART (ART is as of now supported only on few devices and luckily the G is one of them. Also it is strongly advised not to use ART now as it can cause all type of issues ranging to hard brick and just wait for Google to officially release it....So what is the use of this thread? It's for all the brave hearts out there :silly: )
Also bruh don't forget to hit the Thanks button if this helped

RN3Pro Snapdragon - apps to freeze & better memory management

If you are like me, and like using the official MIUI 8 firmware, you'll want to freeze the following apps ( in the attachment section ).
Also, be sure to disable "Memory optimization" and "Turn on MIUI optimization" in Developer options. After that, open up /system/build.prop and modify it by commenting out the following line:
... this:
persist.sys.mcd_config_file=/system/etc/mcd_default.conf
... becomes this:
# persist.sys.mcd_config_file=/system/etc/mcd_default.conf
Reboot the phone.
Not sure why Xiaomi decided to use their custom on the fly swap & memory optimizations - since their settings SUCK. After the tweak, you'll notice much better memory optimization, faster changing between apps, more apps kept in memory, and generally a better performing phone.
Also, remember to stop MIUI from calling back home:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/how-to/adaway-blocking-miui-calling-home-t3516119
Enjoy.
Does the memory optimization work and is it useful for the official Roms dev global ?
also, if you freeze the launcher, what do you use instead?
Memory oprimizations done by Xiaomy are pure crapola, prioritizing chinese bloatware instead of user apps.
I am using Nova as my preferred launcher.
Thanks..
The most fail tutorial on miui rom?
mcd_default.config is the setting to activate the second channel ram or Zram it's not just a swap.
It's purpose is to "add more ram" witch is good for web browsing, multitasking and for apps cache, zram config priorities system cache and kernels before caching supported apps.
Disabling it will force all the apps cache to stored on the main Ram witch can cause out of memory on some games and other apps also can cause lag.

OnePlus 3T Optimization

I'm posting this based on a number of requests from other users; regarding optimization of the OnePlus 3T. In general I feel like this phone is already very good. Has great performance and a solid battery. The one issue I suffered was the "Mobile Radio Active" bug. I will explain more about it in this guide.
NOTE - This guide isn't finished yet. I'll try my best to get to it when I get a chance, but for the time being I will share with you all what I have documented so far. Some of my content was referenced from other online sources, so I want to be sure that I state that.
If you have any questions, suggestion, or are interested in adding to this, please let me know.
Before we begin, I’ll start out by listing my configured device. My configuration may be different than yours due to the rom. If you use a custom rom, you need to be careful with some of the options.
That being said…
I am using the 64Gb OnePlus 3T. My bootloader is unlocked, my device is rooted using SuperSU v 2.79 and I use the custom recovery “TWRP 3.0.4-1”
The applications I use:
Amplify - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ryansteckler.nlpunbounce
ForceDoze - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.suyashsrijan.forcedoze
Greenify - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify
L-Speed - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paget96.lspeed
LeanDroid - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teqtic.leandata
Naptime - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.doze
Power Nap - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.jzhang.powernap
Xposed - https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3921508&d=1477916609
Xposed Framework - http://dl-xda.xposed.info/framework/sdk23/arm64/xposed-v87-sdk23-arm64.zip
Some of these are personal preference so you don’t need them if you don’t want to.
NOTE – Also, I am on Stock OOS 3.5.4. The reason for this is because I was experiencing battery drain due to a bug known as “Mobile Radio Active”. This is a bug that affects users even with the new OS, and unfortunately I don’t think it has been fixed even with Nougats new doze feature. Basically even though doze is enable, your radio still draws battery in the background even though it’s not in use. Xposed has a plugin to fix this issue; however since Xposed isn’t available for Nougat this is why I am still on Marshmallow.
You can read more about the bug here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/xposed-mobileradioactivefix-t3189393
And the fix is here:
http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.pyler.mobileradioactivefix
This is a fairly in-depth tut, so I’ll try to go through this as quickly and painlessly as I can. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

POWERNAP
Power Nap for Xposed is the SONY's stamina mod for non-Sony devices. When your screen is off, Power Nap maximizes your device's deep sleep time by stopping services, alarms and wakelocks from waking the device when the screen is off. You can get notification from the apps you've whitelisted.
Set the Endurance Mode to Always ON.
You can use Power Nap along with Greenify and Amplify for a better sleep time. You have to whitelist both Greenify and Amplifyfor proper working of both the modules.
If you use IMs and need Push Notifications, you have to whitelist those apps along with Greenify and Amplify.
See My list Of whitelisted apps.(Varies according to users):

Greenify and L-Speed in 2K17. haHAA
Ignore the idiot above i have proven greenify makes a difference because doze on the go is a thing. Why are you using 3 doze apps that essentially do the same thing, just use one.
Also get rid of L-speed its a pile of crap flash franco kernal and use the battery profile or flash elemental x and use AKT.
Regarding that bug can't you just disable synch on everything that's what i did on everything except gmail and calander and i have no issue
@EuEra
Yeah regarding the doze, I was trying to figure out which one worked best for me. I'm still trying to figure out which one does the best job.
Which doze app do you recommend? Also thanks for your suggestion of the kernel. I can give them a try and see which one suits me. Do you have a preference between the 2 you mentioned?
One of the doze apps that I use actually does a good job of stopping all sync's like you mentioned, but I have to look back at it and try to figure out which option would work best for me. I appreciate the input though. As I mentioned if I get some more time I'll try to investigate this a little further and update it.
Also, are you running Marshmallow or Nougat? If nougat, which firmware are you on?
@xpissio - Lspeed might be unneeded, but you don't have to come off negative. You laugh about it, and maybe it's unnecessary for the OP3T, but I will tell you when I had the S7 it was a VERY much needed app due to the lag of Touchwiz and Samsungs overbloated crap on the device. In that regard, I do find the application useful, and maybe some other will too.
As for Greenify, I do believe that's a solid app and it DOES indeed help all phones regardless of how good your battery and performance is.

Personally i prefer elemental x with the AKT tweaks you get a lot of control over what specifically you want for example i use the extreme battery saving profile (there are about 6 different profiles each for performance, balanced and battery) just search oneplus 3 akt in google. A lot of people love franco kernal as well it has 1 profile for each he has an app to go with it a free one and a paid one with more features.
I only use naptime, i am on the latest nougat 7.1.1 OOS 4.1.1 obviously i don't have exposed or i would use power nap as well. I think it's worth backing up and trying the latest OOS unless you really need xposed or something.
What battery time are you getting? On average i get 2.5-3 days with 6-8 hours screen time.
I get what you're getting now in terms of battery life, but when I went to nougat, I was lucky to get a day out of my battery. I don't even use it that often. I mean I use facebook once or twice a day for maybe 15 mins, I don't play games, I use hangouts as my messenger, but most of the time I message from my computer as it is. Honestly I was shocked when I barely had a day out of the phone because when I went to the battery stats it only had about6 apps listed there and they were all system apps. Then when I went to "Cell Standby" option I could see the Mobile Radio active was consuming the 2nd most amount of battery despite screen being off and device being idle.
Anyway, thanks for your input. I went ahead and tried the franco kernel atm on my current MM rom, but I will consider giving Nougat another shot. Thanks for your feedback!
OnePlus 3T with Resurrection Remix Nougat (Official)
Normal use: 1,5-2 days (Selected sync on, dual-sim, Data always on, Auto-brightness) - Phone calls, Messaging, Messanger, bit of Facebook and Insta or YouTube.
SOT ~ 7-9hrs (best results were about <11hrs, but in my opinion it's not something that you can get while normally using your phone).
My suggestions:
- turn off selected syncs, that you don't necessary need (in my case Google Docs, Photos etc.)
- Ambient Display
- Low on gestures
- Dark themes in custom roms or Dark Mode in OOS
- Animations in 0.5x or nothing
- Don't kill apps in recents, let it work by itself
- Turn off auto update apps or notify about updates
- Low on widgets
- Turn off background data in Facebook/Instagram and all unnecessary apps
- Turn off vibrations, if it's not that important to you
- Get rid of Google App and Google Now if you're not using it
- Block location authorizations as often as you can
- Use dark wallpapers

Dzieki Potr!
Jesus, 9 Apps, Xposed, And a page long list of blocking stuff? And in the end you randomly stop getting notifications (my experience with greenify)?
On my Note 4 i did similar things to get through the day (2 hours SoT) but the 3T is really great in that regarde.
I'm on stock OB4, Franco Kernel without battery tweaks. No aggressive doze, or any battery saving options and i get over 3 days of standby with 6 hours SoT. This includes BT Streaming which drains without the screen being on.
I really see no need for any restrictions on this phone. Except when you install Facebook. Which you should never do. It's a well known fact that facebook drains your battery like crazy. Even if you never actively open it throughout the day.
about L Speed: It depends on the phone and on the usage. On my Galaxy S5 and My Oneplus X I can get like 30% more SOT with a little bit more performance. My 3T I can user three days and I have a 6h SOT. With L-Speed 6.5 - 7h. But it doesn't make the screen on time better for me, rather the screen off. I have with L-Speed 0.2% battery drain in a hour with the screen off, compared to 0.7-0.9% without.
My advice: Try it out and give the amazing dev a feedback. He's very friendly and he helps if you have a bad result.
If you have lower performance or more battery drain with L-Speed and you don't wanna give feedback, just uninstall it and reboot -> all changes are back to stock
Thanks all! The feedback is all good. The problem with phones is everyones experience is going to be a little different. I agree facebook/messenger drains battery, but there are other apps as well that do the same... playstore, google now, etc... I like googlenow because of the updates I get for weather, sports things like that. However it does use up battery and resources in the background even when it's not in use. Facebook; same thing. I like staying in touch with friends and family. If there was a less resource hog version of these apps I'd definitely consider without it limiting my options. The utilities I posted are just some of my preferences, but I'm always open to hear suggestions and others' recommendations.
I agree with the battery life, in general I'd say it's very good, but from my experiences in the past I just had bad luck I suppose with the "mobile radio active" bug; as I have explained above. It's really a hit or miss sort of thing. I've done clean installs, full wipes, etc and it seems to still be hit or miss for me. At first I had several days and then after about a week or 2, I noticed the battery life dropped significantly. That's when I used these utilities to help out with the life of the battery and for me it made a difference.
I actually REALLY like nougat, but I also use a few plugins I really like that require Xposed framework, which obviously isn't supported in nougat yet. I've been busier than normal last several weeks, but if I get a chance to backup everything I might consider doing another clean install of nougat and see how things go.
these features can also be found in the custom roms anyway

1st of all thank you for the post and for other people who replied , I think ( hope ! ) That I learned something , and I'll try to implement it.
2nd as you said for Facebook alternative I can recommend "Friendly" or the other option is "Simple" it's a framework app for the Facebook web , try I think you will get it useful and battery friendly
Never liked the Facebook app for Android and never understood the need to make two separate apps. The need for the app then the messenger is totally useless. There are tons of Facebook alternatives, but why download those alternatives when you can view Facebook through mobile browser. You would think that with the billions Facebook makes they'd have a better R&D team working on a better Facebook app without 50 permissions and battery hog.

Battery Saving Techniques

There's a lot of threads out there regarding battery saving techniques, but I didn't really see anything that went into a lot of detail on the OP3t. I own both an OP3t and an OP5T, and after running into some issues with the battery I have finally gotten my phone to idle fairly well on the devices and figured I would share my techniques.
Anyone that reads this and finds this useful, I encourage you to let me know the outcome of your battery after following this guide. Also if you have any suggestions/recommendations, please share them with me on here. I can update the original post and include your suggestions so that it can be helpful for other users as well.
The wakelocks category can be pretty intimiating because it's different for all users based on applications they have, but if you have some custom regex wakelocks or just standard wakelocks that you would like to share, please let me know.
Now to the guide...

If you don't use these apps, then you should be okay to enable the option. I had this option enabled initially while using the 3rd party apps, and they were conflicting with my phone and my battery was draining very rapidly. It wasn't until after I disabled this option that I noticed a significant improvement with the battery.

Magisk
The only module I use in Magisk is "Sysconfig Patcher" - This is supposed to help with optimizing battery for the google services (that are normally exempt from battery optimizations)
Xposed
The modules I have enabled are:
Amplify
ForceDoze
No Device Check (this is a xposed module you can download from the app that helps make SafetyNet check pass)
Now in Android Settings --> Data usage
Click on the cellular data usage as well as the wifi data usage, you can click on an app that shows up in that list that uses up a lot of data and when you click on it, there is an option to toggle off the option "Background data"
I'm not sure if this is really needed, but what I did is I went through the apps that used the most data (including google play store and google play services) and I toggled the background data off
Android Settings --> Battery
Click "Battery Optimization" --> click the ellipses (top right corner) --> Advanced optimization --> turn this on
Android Settings --> Apps --> Special Access --> Usage Access
Turned off for google play store and google play services
Android Settings --> Apps --> Special Access --> Unrestricted data access
All apps are turned off
These are all my custom settings. If you would like to share any, let me know!
Probably you didn't search enough.
There are many helpful topics here or at Oneplus forum for Amplify, Betterbatterystats or with guides for increased battery.

There are several very useful posts each individually spread around these forums; the purpose of this thread is to have a unified source so people don't have to look all over like I did. I know you initially posted on my thread when I had terrible battery drain issues; and after I posted the information you requested, I haven't heard anything from anyone so I had to troubleshoot and fix it on my own. I guess what I'm saying is, I just want to help others in case they run into a similar situation because it can be frustrating when you're seeking guidance or help and no one responds.
I use Naptime and also had enabled the Doze mode in the settings, so like you say i disabled doze mode now and kept naptime running , ill update this post with my findings

Yeah, keep me posted. I'd be interested to see if your results are similar to mine. Were you also having a lot of battery drain despite using naptime and doze mode?

@manohar3787 - curious to hear about your phone after turning off doze. Any updates?
Leandroid app is responsible of a severe wakelock, I think is almost better not to have it? Any opinion?
Also, what about RILJ And RILJ_ACW_WL wakelocks? Are these safe to block?
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
RILJ was safe to block on nougat and below, but in Oreo+ it will actually cause a lot of trouble with the system. The other wakelock you mentioned "RILJ_ACW_WL", I'm not familiar with. What I woudl recommend is do a full backup in your recovery, then make the change to observe what happens. If it messes things up you can recover from your backup.
Regarding Leandroid, I haven't really heard any concerns with it. There have been some responses of users that didn't find it to help any, but I haven't heard of it having an adverse affect.
Another app I haven't tried, but am tempted to try at some point is called Island: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.island
Also a thread about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/-t3366295
@xNAPx - how is your SOT and your idle battery like? DO you use any 3rd party apps/tools to help with battery drain?

My SoT is dependent on the usage, night drain is less than 1% a hour even 0% sometimes, SoT is between 7 and 5 h
About those wakelock I've heard the same about RILJ on Oreo, about the other one I don't know but is heavy as well.
About Leandroid I'm not very convinced. It messes up with notification and now I have another big wakelock to worry about

Unable to End Google play services
i am unable to doze google play services since am already running doze mode+magisk modules(sysconfig patcher + enable doze moe for gms )
Still i can see play services in Running services
Kind help needed
@xNAPx - do you have any custom settings or tools you use? Do you use Greenify?
What are the big wakelock issues that you have trouble with? Is it the one you mentioned "RILJ_ACW_WL" or other ones?
@Anusha Rao - Are you using doze mode within the Android system or 3rd party tools like I posted?
I don't think you want to use both magisk modules. As I mentioned in my post, I only use the sysconfig patcher. And make sure you reboot the phone after enabling that.
To check and see if google play services is being optimized for battery try going here:
Settings --> Apps --> Application List--> Google Play Services --> Battery
When I look at mine it shows 0m in use
0% battery usage
Battery Optimization:
Optimizing battery use
EDIT:
I'm posting screenshots of my googple play store and the google play services having battery optimization enabled and using 0% battery.
BTW, just so we're on the same page, you shouldn't completely "stop" google play services because it's essentially what drives the OS. Those services are important for letting your phone operate correctly. My thread is about optimizing those services not disabling/stopping them.
If you want to completely "freeze" certain apps and services you can try out that application I posted in my previous post called "Island". I'd be curious to hear how it works out.
That one plus "RILJ" plus "LEANDROID service" (which I un installed) , and also "AudioMix" and "xalarmx"

Amplify tells me I need to root my device but I have Magisk installed...?
I'm not familiar with the rom that you have "Dirty Unicorns". I use the stock ROM.
Most custom roms have root built in though so you might not even need to use magisk or super SU. You can check to see if there are any custom rom settings o maybe go into developer settings and see if you see a "Root" option.
Face unlock is not supported in the "Bane Kernel".
Does Lean Droid caused more battery Drain?

Disable background data in Play Store and Play service will not disabling them right?
@Bintang Ksatria - Leandroid should be using less battery. @Rvl7 - No it won't disable them. I still use them, but it's on manual load, and not in the back ground. At least that has been my experience.
