The install button is greyed out, not matter what APK file I try to install (Fire HD 8 6th generation - OS 5.6.0.0)
I deleted every program I ever installed, shut down all running services as much as possible, turned on the "Allow Apps from Unknown Sources", restarted a few times, but no matter what, I am blocked from install.
I did have KingRoot installed, but that never actually worked, so maybe they screwed something up.
Anyway, I deleted all progs, including Kingroot. Just the bare bones basic Fire HD, nothing else, and no matter what, no APK installs.
Any ideas out there?
I would LOVE to get the root on this thing, been trying a long time. I truly hate those stupid ads when I turn on the thing - now I cant even install a program.
What a PIECE OF ___T!~

Did that. Same issue. Did not have this problem before.
EDIT:
No matter what type of APK I try to install, it is blocked. 'Install' is greyed out - see https://ibb.co/b1YCHm

My brand new Fire HD 10 does that also, when it gets stuck with no way to push the "Install" button all you have to do is hit the power button once to put it to sleep. Then if the power button again wake it up, then slide to unlock and the "install" button will now work.
Hope this helps you...

Many of us have know that the newest update that was push 2.0.5 break root. Well, for those who didn't know, now you know. Let's me be clear, there is NOTHING TO BLOCK THE OTA UPDATE, unless you build your own firewall. That said, the mod that we had was to use sql and turn automatic OTA into manual thus unless you were looking for it, it shouldn't. Or something you did may accidentally turn it back to automatic.
That said, we had one report of successful revert back to the older firmware here from 2.0.5. I have made a suggestion to manually force the system to fail the boot 8 times and do a full wipe. And this should revert it back to the original firmware that came with the Nook HD/HD+. Well, in the future, this may no longer be the case, as newer Nook may come with 2.0.5 out of the box, but let's do this one step at a time, we aren't there yet and maybe better solution will come later. So, if you accidentally updated to 2.0.5, you should try the following.
Backup your naughty stuff that's on the internal storage (even if they are not naughty, do it so anyway)
Force the nook to fail at least 8 times. First you power the device off then hit the power button, and when it's trying to boot, hold on to the power button, and I think about 10sec after it will force poweroff. You timing have to be quite good and make sure it's not getting a success boot. You basically have to do that at least 8 times.
If you successfully did all that, it should revert back to the original firmware. I know that the 8 boot loop will reset it back to 2.0.0 from 2.0.2 because I did that before.
Try rooting it again.
I hope this help.
Interesting, I'm going to try and force the 8-loop reboot and set if I can get back to 2.04. I think then I also have to skip the out of box registration process as this automatically updates?
it Works
Confirmed !!
I have got my new Nook HD+ yesterday, and before I could root it, it was automatically updated to 2.0.5 by itself today.
So I did the 8 times boot manually, and the system was reset to the original firmware--2.0.4.
After the first boot by skipping the OOBE, I followed the "All-in-one" from someone0, and it works perfectly now with ADW launcher.
But I still cant get the titanium backup to run yet, it says SU error.
Thanks to someone0, leapinlar and verygreen for those great contribution :good:

You still need to run superuser once, did you do that?
Thank you for this very much. Is there no way to prevent updating to version 2.0.5 again? I came home, and my brother was playing on it, he told me something happened. I took a look, and it was updated to 2.0.5. Is there anyway to prevent it again in the future? Will the all-in-one basically disable updating? Since I did install that previously, and the version was still updated.
Sorry for the bother, and thank you very much. I will look into setting up a firewall.
Thank you again.
EDIT: I've conducted the 8-boot loop, and it should have loaded an earlier firmware; however, how would I bypass registration, or the version update check after the 8-boot loop? Thank you.
hiddenG. I had similar issue, I wanted to avoid update so I did a reset, but let it go too far and it updated me to 2005. I then did the 8 time interrupt and got back to 2004. I read here to google "nook color bypass OOTB" as the steps are the same for HD+.
It works
Only thing I'm having trouble running allinone. I don't think I'm doing it right. THe unregistered hd+ lists you as "test" and you have connectivity but no browser. I'm figuring I need to sideload a launcher and I'm looking into how to do that. I do have adb.
If you've registered you might have to reset and catch it as soon as you get to the language screen. You hold volume up. and touch lower left, then lower right to bring up "factory" screen. Then, holding vol up, touch lower right to bring up bypass OOTB.
Dave
Mine automatically updated even though I had automatic update blocked with sqlite. Furthermore, I no longer have access to content I previously purchased on that nook! I can't even download the nook app to fix, it keeps crashing when trying to sync.
Ps, if I re root using reset and skip oobe, then I still won't have access to my content, no?

I guess not, you're not registered at all.

Thanks dbrons, that solved my problem. Thank you very much.
Is there anyway to get rid of the "your library is syncing" notification when you use OOBE without turning notifications off entirely?

I also have the same question.
In addition, is there any way to get the "TEST's NOOK" text in the notification bar to be replaced with my own name?

I'm actually curious if this would work. When it suddenly went into 'must get 2.05' mode and I 8-reset it, I disconnected internet right after letting it register...and it pushed me into a loop trying to check for updates and wouldn't proceed.
Any suggestions on domains to be blocked if I were to try this again?

And also, is there any way to get rid of the App Update notifications. There are some that I don't want to update but the notifications keep coming back after clearing them.
So pissed off now....for no reason, when booting up this time my Nook went into a boot loop and reset itself! It wiped everything from internal storage, effectively killing off hours I had spent last night getting everything set on it with apps and root. (this was all after using the All-in-one batch file which supposedly turned off automatic OTA updates)

Yes, I did, and it works now, Thank you
I spent most the day yesterday toying with getting my Nook HD running again after the 2.0.5 update. I did find that by performing the 8 boot reset back to 2.0.0 and going through the setup process and immediately powering the HD off as soon as it began to check for updates that after I restarted the unit it would bypass the update upon powering it up again and completing the setup. After which I ran someone0's Allinone script which did give me root and load the Google market place. I was able to then load all my apps from the market and change the launcher etc.... After leaving the HD powered on and connected to the network while idle the unit did an auto OTA to 2.0.5 and rebooted on its own. Upon restart, I was at 2.0.5 and root was gone, but the update left the Google Market and all my apps and data in place. Granted I don't have root, but atleast I'm able to customize my own launcher and load and side load any apps I've see fit that dont require root.

This was the exact procedure that worked for me, other than the fact that my Nook HD+ 8 boot reset to 2.0.4. So its definitely a workable solution until the awesome devs come up with a true solution!

thanks for your reply. but I can't even launch the market app. as it close with forced close error.
the device is dead. it can boot normally. but every and each app is closing with application error.
I can't even perform factory reset. as it doesn't seem to do anything.
I can't install any apps from google play as it is crashing.
hard reset not working too.
I am getting an error after every app I install.
First I get the message:
"Enjoy your app! If you ever forget your password, we can help restore access to your Google Play library and purchases. Tap "Continue" to tell us how to contact you."
Then When I Hit Continue:
I get a blackscreen, the a force quit on com.google.android.gsf.login
Am I really the only one with this issue? I even booted into stock recovery and did a restore... Anyone else?
Bumb. No one else is having this problem?
Rooted yesterday, then reinstalled all my apps. Never saw this message. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen that message before in all my five years of Android use.
I rooted earlier today. I have not had this problem.

Uninstall the google update and let it reinstall, might fix it.
1: Bad form to bump after a few hours.
2: Were you completely stock when you did the original rooting? I'd suggest getting the stock ODIN files and flashing back to that, then retry rooting without installing much of anything.
3: I recommend using 7zip to unpack the files. I had issues with WinRAR, but 7zip worked fine.
Rooted mine last night, reinstalled a bunch of apps between last night and today. I've never seen that message before.

Sorry if it was bad form to bump, should have just changed the title. Anyways
It seems like that is working so far. Uninstalled the update for the play store, cleared data and I haven't had a force quit yet.
I don't even get where this message is coming from, and not a lot when googling the issue. Right when I would accept an apps permissions, this message would pop up, I hit continue, and it seems like it tries to open something but screen goes black. Have to re-open play store BUT it was at the last place i was, the app i just installed with the open button. Weird...
thanks you rock

this same thing happened to me yesterday when i was trying to download stuff from xposed, it said downloading error 504. i didnt do anything with my phone like the guides tell u. they say delete cache and data and etc from play store app in app manager. i didnt do that.
this is what i done- i disabled mobile data as i was using wifi but i generally just keep it on just incase . then i fully turned off my router and then switched it back on. then i made my phone forget my wifi and then i set it up again. then everything was fine and all was back to normal. i heard this happens sometimes, dont do any big steps just be patient and it will sort out with time, as its a gateway error and nothing u or the service can do about it- i know this according to what ive already read. :good:
ok, thanks nayanwaghmare, but my problem is a little diferent, I can download, apks, from any source, but when I reach the screen where you see the permissions an the options to cancel or install, the button for.installing does nothing, only the cancel or back work, only the play store has no problem, as it installs automatically, I dont know what to do
reflash your rom i would say
I will try that , thanks

Do you have any screen overlay app running, like screen filter or lux? You need to disable those to be able to click the "install" button -- this is a security feature in android.
thank you very much!!!! I just solved the issue, thank you very very much man,
Just bought this phone from someone off swappa. I put all my apps on it, but while doing the setup I found that the Camera app and the Essential Resources app show updates available on Google Play. However, when I try to install them, I get 505 errors for both. 150 other apps installed just fine, but I can't install these 2 essential apps. Weird thing is, I checked the most recent version of the camera app available on the play store (0.1.067) and compared it to the one on my phone and it's the same version! Yet it says update on the play store. I looked for 'essential resources" under apps on my phone and I can't even find it at all.
Is it possible that the guy who sold me the phone modified the software somehow and that's what is causing the problems I am having? I want to update the essential resources app so that more apps can use the full screen.
Lastly, I tried to enter recovery by holding the power+volume down button when I start the phone. The menu comes up and I select recovery and all I get is a "no command" error along with the android with an exclamation point. Is there another key sequence I need to press at that point to get into recovery? I'm trying to clear the cache.

Did that. No dice. Also removed my Google account and readded it. Still doesn't work. I installed the whitelist editor and used the adb commands to enable it. I hope whatever the previous owned did doesn't prevent me from receiving OTA updates.

The best suggestion with this phone is to do a factory reset, and set up the phone as new. Don't install anything from a back up or another device.
I believe I found the reason. I bought this phone off Swappa. It appears it's running a test build of the software somehow. NMI75B test-keys. I believe this is the reason the apps don't update. I have no idea why the phone updated to this build OTA, but I've seen a few other threads here and on Reddit where others have this build also.

Respectfully, I think you're wrong. I downloaded and have updated 150+ non-system apps to this phone without issue. Only 3 system apps won't download and update without giving me 505 errors. The 3 apps are Camera, Essential Services, and Essential Resources. I believe that the test build of the firmware I am using is the culprit. All 3 are system apps. In addition, I've already tried all 505 error remedies to try and fix the problem and they don't work for these 3 apps.
