My Hero shows wrong time in certain HTC clock and calendar widgets. It detects location correctly but shows the time in GMT, even though Clock app shows current as GMT -4 and Home as the right time.
What the hell?
I'm having a problem that's similar, but different. I have a new Sprint HTC Hero with the stock ROM, and I'm an Android newbie.
My home city is set to Arlington, VA (which is EDT time zone). In the date/time settings, it is set to use network-provided values, which appear correctly as 5:44 PM. In addition, this time is correct on the lock screen.
Then we come to the HTC clock widgets. They correctly show my current location as Arlington, and the weather forecast is even correct. However, the clock the my current location is incorrectly an hour behind, showing 4:44 PM.
If I tap the clock widget, I can confirm that the time at my home location is correct, and my current location is detected correctly, but the current time is an hour behind.
Finally, if I enable the GPS receiver for location, the current time becomes correct briefly, and then returns back to the wrong time. In general, I'd like to keep GPS off most of the time to conserve battery, so my location settings are based on wireless and cell networks.
Thanks for any suggestions..
Yup, mine pretty much does that. This HAS to be a bug in the widget because everywhere else, it displays time correctly.

I noticed this today too, was in my inlaws house in Arlington VA and the time was off by an hour and showed current location as Arlington. But the time I setup for Herndon VA showed the correct time. But was also weird is that as soon as we got in the car to leave it changed to the correct time. And my location changed to "current" I think it was. So I think there's something with HTC getting Arlington VA confused with Arlington TX and thus the hour difference? Not sure
I was having the same issue, near as I can see it is a glitch with the HTC widget. The time for my home time is shown correct in the top right and on the lock screen, but the HTC widget was always an hour off. The way I got around it is to go into the time settings where it lists "local" and "home", press the menu key, and turn off the automatic network provided values, then reset the time zone to your current time.
Obviously the aggravating part about this is that if you travel to a different time zone you have to manually update the time.
I hope they come out with a fix for it soon!
Same here but it only occurs on the analog clocks.. the sense ui flip clock is fine
EDIT:
After messing around with my new Hero, I found that if you select a clock, the next screen will show you options to select current city or certain cities. Uncheck the "Show City Label" and select "current city"
That's what corrected this problem for me.. hope this does it for everyone else too!
Having this same problem with my phone Sprint HTC Hero. time zone is correct but its a hour off. even though network time in top coner is correct.

hello all you hackers and chefs!
got a quick question. everytime my brother heads out on the road, his main gripe with the touch pro 2 (official winmo 6.5 rom) is that it automatically changes his time zone as he moves on down the road. he needs to run his log book on east coast time zone only. the phone keeps updating the weather , gps location (obviously) and then the time zone. as long as the "my location" option remains in the clock setting area, this phone will continue to update the weather, gps location (obviously) & time zone. anyone know how to disable this function? In the words of my brother, "if i need to know the weather where i'm at, i'll just stick my damn head out the window of my truck. make this damn phone stop changing time zones!"
somebody please lend me a helping hand!!!??? PLEASE!!

Hello,
Did you check in phone/menu/options/time zones ... if it is unticked?
You can also disable the HTC Location services in the settings.

not quite sure what you meant.
i have been all thru this phone trying to find the "magical setting" to disable this for him with no luck. he is on a long haul right now and i would love to give him the steps needed to resolve this for him.
to clear up anything for everyone wanting to help..... we have removed all cities except cincinnati, oh. from the weather area. the "my location" stays on; regardless. any other pointers?
You may be able to fix this with a mortscript...
i just found a command line tool to adjust the time zone.
maybe it will work on that phone and do something useful?
its at the mortscript examples...

go to setting>personal>phone>cdma or gsm services (im on sprint so it says that)>time synchronization>get settings & uncheck time synchronize with mobile network then go to clocks & alarms then set it for the time zone u need
If he is using Manila 2.5, then the easiest way is:
Tap on the clock and tick the city he wants as Home (this will automatically untick "My Location"). If his home town isn't already in the list, just add it by tapping "Add City".
It really is that easy
Keep on truckin' dude!
ok we found it

That doesn't stick either! Every reset it will go back to my location - I also did the regedit under hkcu/software/htc/manilia... mylocation and set to 0 - didn't work!

So I've had this problem with pretty much every T-mobile phone I (and anyone I know) has had while being at college. I am in central time, but am only about 20 miles from the eastern timezone border and T-mobile is always trying to tell me I am in eastern time.
All of my old phones have had a simple setting to turn off automatic updates of the time, allowing me to set it to central time and not have to fool with it. I can't seem to find this setting for the HD2 though. I don't want to turn off HTC's location as that will stop the weather tab from being able to find me, and that isn't really the issue anyway. If anything the GPS should be telling my phone I am in fact in central time.
Does anyone know where to find the setting that stops the phone from updating it's time based on what the network says? If possible, is there any way currently to have the GPS set timezones for us, as that is going to be more accurate than what tower you are getting signal from?
Thanks!
Idk if this will help you, but have you tried tapping on the clock on the home screen and you then can add your custom location or current location ....maybe there are other settings there also ?
Go to settings>menu>all settings> date and time, there you should be able to change the time zone.

This works fine but there is no option for Daylight savings time. Must have over looked it. Just select central time and manually change one hour ahead.

I personally have called T-Mobile about this and even speaking with a Teir 2 I am disappointed. They reset my ports and the time zone correctly updated, then as soon as I left my house and headed downtown it changed. Guess what, as soon as I got back home later it changed back to Pacific.
On the HD2 the option to change the timezone is greyed out indicating that it is updated from the carrier. I have changed the other settings every which way with no avail.
My theory is that the HTC Sense "Weather" app automatically updates the Time and Weather based upon the GeoLocation info. The name of my city is Portland and I suppose it thinks im in Oregon!
I have tried the various clock settings but to no avail. I can click on the flipclock and change the time manually, or even pick my own location rather than using Sense's "My Location" option. This works for a little while, but when the wether updates it's weather data it also changes my location.
I have also gone into the All Settings->Clocks & Alarms and changed the time zone manually which also works temporarily, but again once Weather updates the timezone is changed.
BsB Tweaks has a setting for Auto Sync Clock which is precisely what I need turned off. Oddly enough, there is something outside of BsB that overrides it's setting and turns the Auto Sync Clock setting back on.
It completely boggles my mind what is going on here. In theory the Sense's weather app should not directly affect whether or not the system clock is synced with the network time/timezone data. More so, if Sense decides it must update the clock whenever it finds the weather location/data it should be able to update the clock based on what timezone my GPS location is within.
Maybe there would be a way to add this feature in, though I'm not sure exactly how to go about it as I haven't done any tweaking and hacking on WinMo in years. It would be best for everyone if our clock was synced with the My Location data, as this gives an extremely precise understanding of what timezone I am in.
The automatic timezone settings may be in the phone settings and not the clock settings. Try going into the dialer then select Menu--> Options and click the Timezone tab. Then uncheck the the box to automatically update.
I do not have a T-mobile USA HD2 yet (mine is on order), so this is an assumption as that setting is available on my Diamond. If you don't see a TimeZone tab, it could be that T-mobile is hiding it. In which case there is probably a regedit to re-enable the tab so this can be unchecked.
Hope this helps.
hadn't thought about looking in the phone settings for the clock synchronization, great idea! that may have lead me to the solution, I'll see what happens in the next few hours.
Here is what I did...
Settings-> all settings-> personal-> phone->GSM/UMTS tab-> time synchronization-> get settings> uncheck auto time synchronization
I don't think they could have hidden that simple setting anymore if they tried! hopefully that will do the trick, thanks!

HTC HD2 (Leo) Time Zone Problem (Greyed Out)
Almost - My HTC HD2 (Leo) goes: Settings ->Menu->All Settings->Clocks&Alarms
Then click the 'Time' tab, and there's a dropdown where you can choose your time zone. You'll almost certainly have to set the time dropdown as well (just under the time zone dropdown).
But you're right - they certainly conceal this most primary of settings very thoroughly!
Cheers, Mark

One of the best apps in the Market for android is Tasker. Needless to say what transformation cand your phone get by using this app. You can see that here:

and you can get it from here:

I was just trying to find a collection of profiles for O1 and it seems there isn`t one, so why not having it right here.
So let`s get the best from our O1 by sharing the profiles we can use for different tasks. Practically there is no limit to what we can do with the phone using that app.
I also recommend you should post your system configuration because some tasks may not work on some roms, kernels etc.
LET YOUR SMARTPHONE BE SMART!
For people using ICS Roms, go to sttings>language and input method>text transformation result and select Pico TTS so you enable voice on Tasker.
I`ll start with a simple profile to make you phone stop ringing by turning it face down:
For this Context, you would choose State, then pick Orientation. You'll get the options you see at left. For this example, "Face Down" is a pretty deliberate action you take with your phone.
For the tasks, you can add "Bluetooth" and "WiFi" from the Net menu, set to Off, "GPS" from Misc set to Off, and set the volumes for "Media Volume" and "System Volume" to 0 from the Audio menu. If you'd like, you can re-order the tasks in priority by pressing and dragging them up the chain. In this case, I moved the volume-to-0 tasks up higher, since silencing the phone was the most important thing to do. Hit Done, and you're all set.
And there you go! Just flip the phone on it`s face to make it silent.
All the profiles listed below can be found here

Am I the only one who thinks that an app doing something at absolutely anything you do with the phone, this is not draining, it just uses 100% of the CPU when you flip the phone...
And lets not mention that, to make phone silent when turned upside down means it has a permanent wakelock, and sensor constantly finding what is the position etc...
At the end, you will have a very smart phone, but you won't be able to answer a call, because when answering phone must change all the settings, and then reboot, and... whatever, this thing sucks! Just like juice defender, but it is oriented 100% on losing performance and battery and control over the phone...
Oh you can try to make it do a factory reset every day if it is so smart

Read first, post after. Tasker app does not keep your phone awake as most tasks are set to trigger while it is awake and the display is on. Like the task to open automatically wifi when you open your browser or xda app and set it off after closing those apps. And when setting triggers based on power settings or time, the wakelocks are not constant, being activated just like alarm wakelocks. In fact you can set smart alarms too. Or actions based on calls/sms/mms received from specific ppl at specific times etc., or actions based on gestures set by you, proximity sensor ...
Tested wakelocks with BBStatus and no wakelocks, the phone goes to deep sleep. Tested cpu freq with Cool Tool and max freq is used only when starting the triggered app or doing the task set. In the rest of the time the freq oscillates normally.
And please do not make comments on any app based on how other apps behave. Try it then post.
If anyone is using this app, post your profiles or the ones you think are usefull.
nice thread! let me share my fav profiles
@vlt
Yea, you are the only one who thinks it because otherwise the app wont get 4-5 stars at always if it is battery consuming also, just because the developer had explained clearly how the tasker consume battery. its in the userguide inside and im vrry satisfied with it.
@voyager
tasker is just amazing to me ive been using it for long because it really makes my phone even smarter.
undoubtedly yes, using sensors as a context is the most battery comsuming but we can Limit the use of its detection by ourselves. not mentioning its pre-installed functionality that it wont detect when screen off, for your silent mode thing we can add another context - how about only when our launcher is in the foreground? that makes things even easier
now im glad to share my most frequently used profiles (not giving you guys my private ones XD) including
- vibrate 0.3 second with a little toast msg when power is plugged
- vibrate 0.3 sec and show how much battery left with toast when power is unplugged
- weekdays auto vibration mode in the morning
- auto rotation only on browser
- temporarily disable lockscreen when specified apps are opened (my default set for u is calculator)
- CM7 camera anti-flickering (good for those who OC with stock kernel )
- brightness 80% when camera activates and restore after exit
although gestures and proximity sensor contexts are SUPER COOL, other than the time i show off to my friends xD, ive always been avoiding the sensors to eliminate any chances of over using them and cause batteries.
so, i guarantee my profiles are super battery friendly....
hehehe you must be tempted to download immediately? do it! tell me what do you think of my favourite profiles which are always activated on my P500
to import, unzip my zip and u get xml files. go to tasker, long press "profiles" tab, import, choose the xml. done!

How do you change OC on it?
.........
Set a profile which is based on a context on which the task will trigger, for example when open camera, set task to set clock to 600 Mhz, then set exit app task to reset the clock back to your usual OC freq.
You can play like that with almost everything on you phone.

Try setting some simpler tasks like start wifi when opening browser. Miassmic`s tasks can be set manually too.
Here`s another profile
Enable WiFi when at Home
Context: State –> Cell Near
Tap the “Start” button and move around your home as your area may be covered by several cells (the “<” sign represents the tower you’re currently connected to). You may stop it after few minutes.
Action: Net –> WiFi
Another profile which sets up a shortcut on home screen for taking instant photos, without opening camera app (point and shoot)
Long-press on the Home-screen > Shortcuts > Task
Action: Media –> Photo Series Time (So that new photos don’t overwrite the previous one and every new photo will have the time attached with its name.)
If discrete is checked, there will be no sign of the picture being taken.
Profiles i use
I attached some of my usual profiles.
What they do:
Missed call> after any missed call with display locked the phone vibrates 0.7 sec than waits one minute and says "you had one call x minutes ago" every minute for 30 minutes. Profile must be used with display unlocked profile
Display unlocked> if you had a missed call and unlock the phone the missed call profile stops
Charging>when connected to AC/usb (can be set to either or any) phone will vibrate 07 sec and say "charging"
Battery full>when connected to AC/usb (can be set to either or any) and battery reaches 100% the phone will say "battery full"
Profiles can be improved or modified easy to reach anyones expectations.

Hi,
On cm 7.2, how do you set tasker to enable or disable pattern lock?
I'm on cm 7.2 since yesterday on my Desire. It's my first time on cm, actually. Before that, I used to be on HTC Desire specific roms. I'm rooted.
I've been using Tasker for quite a while, and by now I have a number of profiles that make me feel my phone is smart
Now, the big problem with Tasker is that it spoils you by doing all sorts of things automatically for you. And when a profile no longer works and you have to do things manually, you get really annoyed
And so, in that context, I have the following profile :
Profile : Home
Context : Cell Near
Variable Set %HOME to on
Wifi Set On
Secure Settings Configuration Pattern Lock disabled
Previously, before I switched to cm 7.2, this used to work perfectly, with GO Launcher and stock pattern lock. Now that I'm on cm 7.2 also with GO Launcher, Tasker can no longer act on pattern lock.
Any idea anyone?
Thanks,
Egg

Hello all,
On my S8 I have enabled Do not disturb to come on as scheduled. This is set to start at 23:30. However every night it comes on at 22:30. I have tried changing the start time but it is always coming on at 22:30.
It turns off at the correct time.
Has anyone any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks !
I'm having a similar issue. It doesn't turn off when it should
I'm having the same issue too. Mine comes on at seemingly random times at night. I tried to correct it by setting a schedule that works better for me but it comes completely ignores the schedule and does its own thing...
I'm having the same thing with my S7 edge and suspect it could be something to do with stock Android settings from my previous phone (Moto X Play) that have synced / been restored when I transferred my Google account to my S7 edge.
My do not disturb settings on the Moto X Play (Stock android) were to activate at 10pm Sunday - Thursday and 11pm on Friday and Saturday. As Samsung's version of android doesn't allow different settings for different days of the week I have do not disturb set to activate at 10.30pm every day. I have found that my S7 edge is still following the rules I had for my Moto X Play and activating at 10pm on Sun-Thurs and 11pm Friday and Saturday. This also applies to the deactivate settings which are set to different times Sun-Thurs and Friday and Saturday.
Is there a way to access the stock android do not disturb settings on Samsung?
Fixed it

What I had to do was get Nova Launcher.
Press and hold desktop select to add widget.
Add the Nova Launcher widget - Activities
In the menu that pops up scroll to settings.
In the sub-window scroll to: Automatic rules. The one which is .Settings$ZenModeAutomationSettingsActivitiy
Tap it. This will add a shortcut to the automatic rules.
Click this and you have access to different rules. twschedule is the one set by the Samsung settings.
I had a weeknight one which was affecting me.
This could also be used to set custom ones for different days I think.
Something weird is happening with the time calculations. I used to have my Gear2 Neo track my sleep to Samsung Health, but Samsung Health always reported that I went to sleep and got up 1 hour later than I actually did.

Excellent! Thanks very much I would never have found this myself. I've changed the settings and fingers crossed it will actually do what I want it to tonight!
