[UPDATED] New Google Pixel 2 Exclusive Wallpapers and Guide how activate them - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Guides, News, & Discussion

UPDATED OFFICIAL PIXEL 2 WALLPAPERS ANIMATED
Today Google add 3 new categories exclusive for Pixel phones and the new Rainy Day from Pixel 2.
A lot of roms have the wallpapers active beacause is include in the official Gapps. But some do not have it because a small file is needed. This file is called "nexus.xml"
This little file not only activates these wallpapers, but also activates the unlimited space in Google Photos and more applications in Google Play.
how to activate? Its Simple
1-Need the Official Google Wallpapers from Google Play
2- You need root
3-Download the "nexus.xml" file from here LINK
4-Copy this file to /system/etc/sysconfig
5-Change the permissions to rw-r--r--
6- Restart the phone and READY!
P.D: if you need to disable the option of unlimited space in google photos. You need to delete this lines in the "nexus.xml"
<feature name="com.google.android.apps.photos.NEXUS_PRELOAD" />
<feature name="com.google.android.apps.photos.nexus_preload" />
If the wallpapers do not appear, try to change with the application "Build Prop Editor" the following lines.
1>>'ro.product.model=Redmi note 3' to 'ro.product.model=Pixel 2 XL'
2>>"ro.product.brand=Xiaomi ' to 'ro.product.brand=Google"
3>>"ro.product.manufacturer=Xiaomi" to "ro.product.manufacturer=Google"
4>> then add 'ro.opa.eligible_device=true' at the end
Install the new Pixel Wallpapers 2017 with the new beach live and more!

Missing apps/live wallpapers from the D2 R2D2 rom dump?

So, I was watching an unboxing video of the D2 R2-D2 & noticed that an app "The Best of R2D2" was listed. I found it odd because, the MyDroidWorld ROM dump did not have this app. I did some more research and found that it's also missing 2 live wallpapers. So, to recap:
Missing Applications
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSubLQgsj_M
The Best of R2D2
A launcher for the exclusive video
Missing Live Wallpapers
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFpeMVSN9qQ
3D Millennium Falcon
"Touch the screen and watch the
Millennium Falcon fly thru the
asteroid field"
The Empire Strikes Back
"Tap your screen to view the
greatest moments from Star Wars:
Episode V"
I don't mean for this to sound like I'm not grateful for the rom dump (I now get to have some of the exclusive stuff on my regular Droid 2), I just wanted to point out that some things were missing.
The original MDW/TBH R2D2 Rom release has the live wallpapers and the cheesy binocular app, as well as the standard wallpapers... I don't recall really looking for (or caring about) the "Best of" video or the lightsaber app before deleting all of it with the rest of the bloat anyway. And thankfully Motoboy removed the annoying C3PO on all of my contacts that do not have a pre-existing photo!
Sorry to necro an old thread but this one comes up in search results and it seems like it hasn't been answered yet. I figured I should answer it in case anyone comes along from a search engine.
In addition to the missing apps listed by the OP, there's also a 15th wallpaper, Han Solo in Carbonite, that seems to be missing from the leaks.
The leaked wallpapers all have the same naming scheme:
StarWarsESB_asteroids.apk
StarWarsESB_Binoculars.apk (this is the AT-AT Binoculars app)
StarWarsESB_lightspeed.apk
StarWarsESB_R2D2.apk
StarwarsESB_spaceslug.apk
And are present in /system/app. You can copy them out of there once you're rooted.
However, the two missing wallpapers are named differently, but still in /system/app:
Asteroids.apk (this is the 3D Millennium Falcon wallpaper)
swipe.apk (this is the The Empire Strikes Back live wallpaper, not Swype)
However, when I copy them out, I get a "App not installed" message. If I ever figure this out, I'll update my guide with instructions on fixing it (see link below).
The missing static wallpaper is with all the others in:
/system/app/BlurHome.apk/res/drawable-hdpi/
(APK's are just zip files, so you can open them up and see inside)
The Best of R2D2 App is just a video player which automatically loads the video located at:
/system/media/video/startupvideo_en.3gp
But the app is a normal user app, not a system app, so it's apk isn't located in /system/app like the rest. You can back it up using Titanium Backup or Astro File Manager or whatever.
I figured this stuff out while writing a guide about ripping all the R2-D2 theme elements from the stock R2-Droid 2 and getting them working again in a ROM on the R2-D2. Here's a link if you want to know more:

GEL and Launcher 3 is handeled by Google search

While trying to find a solution to the big icons and the too big grid in the google experience launcher I made quite the discovery.
First I discovered that messing witht he dpi setting for the GEL in Paranoid Android did nothing. After a few minutes I decided to try messing with the google search settings instead, and to my surprise it worked!
So today I decided to decompile the apk files for both apps and what a discovery. the apk for the GEl was more or less an empty shell. All files handeling the launcher and all assets was in google search!
Both the GEL and Launcher3 is handeled by the google search apk, only difference is that the GEL has the google now and search features activated.
If you want to see for yourself just download android multitool and decompile the new search and the GEL apk's it's quite easy to see even without having to go trough any code as search also has all the res files.

What solution? If you read about the nexus 5 you will understand that has a high dpi, this means, the dpi of the apps on the launcher will too, be bigger and this was because of google, the apps your installing come from the nexus 5 system Dump, this means it's still configured for it's screen and it's set up. It's not meant to adapt per phone because it's the one specific to the Nexus 5.
It was also clear to see that Google search basically handled the launcher due to having to set up google search before using the launcher, as well as the sizs of the .apk also the error if you tried to open the launcher without the correct dependencies, also built for the nexus 5.

Yes I know that, I was just looking for a way to make them smaller, nothing wrong with that. Also what I meant was that the google search apk is playing an even bigger role than what people might have realized.
It's not quite fixing the icons in the GEL (That's impossible for now), I did modify Launcher3 to display them more properly. You don't get any of the now stuff, but it's the 4.4 Launcher otherwise with almost not problems.

ME70CX root/debloating

I recently picked up an Asus ME70CX (K01A), and thought I'd share my rooting/debloating experience. This process not only sped up the general UI speed/flow of my device (quite noticeably), it freed a considerable amount of RAM. Given the fact that this device only ships with 1GB, this process should help anyone looking to get the most out of this otherwise awesome little tab.
There have been other posts concerning the debloating of various other versions of the MeMO Pad 7, such as one by Gentaz pertaining to the ME572C. Take a look at his thread, as well as a few others concerning the rooting process of the ME70C/ME70CX if you are unfamiliar with the process as a whole. The following links will provide you with the tools/information necessary to gain root access with little more than a few clicks of the mouse.
1. Gentaz's post on the 572C; also helpful for some insight into some performance tweaks that I don't get into:
http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/memo-pad-7/general/me572c-root-debloat-t2992131
2. A post that I added to concerning the rooting process for the ME70CX; make sure you reference the original post by smaury (links embedded), as it contains the AsusIntelRootKit tools etc:

Once you're rooted, you can use Titanium Backup to safely freeze the following system apps/services from the stock, rooted 4.4.2 firmware:
1. Amazon Kindle
2. ASUS Demo
3. ASUS EZ Launcher
4. ASUS Launcher (make sure you have another launcher installed before you freeze these two, or you'll end up with a blank home screen)
5. ASUS Miracast Dongle Tool (unless you use one)
6. Bbbler Actors (wtf?)
7. Browser (ASUS)
8. Calendar (ASUS; has the same icon as calendar storage)
9. Calendar Storage (ASUS; keep if you've kept the stock calendar app)
10. Chrome
11. Cloud Print
12. Data Transfer
13. DLNA Service
14. Do It Later
15. Email (ASUS)
16. eMusic
17. File Manager (you may run into minor problems, as some native apps rely on the native file manager; still, safe to freeze and unfreeze later)
18. MicroFilm
19. Movie Studio
20. Music (ASUS)
21. MyASUS
22. Omlet Chat
23. Party Link
24. PC Link
25. Remote Link
26. Share Link
27. SuperNote
28. Weather (freezing this will remove it from your lock screen, saving considerable battery)
29. WeatherTimeService
30. WebStorage
31. What's Next
32. Zinio
Unfreeze any of these at any time if you need them, or just don't freeze them. I don't recommend uninstalling (unless you're confident in your Titanium Backup files), only because you can expand the memory to about 80 total gigs with a memory card. I suppose you can if you need the space, but I didn't try it on any of these.
Prior to this process, I was averaging about 350-400 free MB of RAM on tablet idle. Now, after a quickboost (RAM freeing tool in the quick settings toolbar), I'm averaging about 575-610 on idle. It goes down about 50 MB with encryption enabled, but the UI is considerably faster. My battery life has also drastically improved. I don't have specific numbers to give, but I've undoubtedly noticed an increase. These numbers can fluctuate depending on what Google services you use, as I use a whole bunch (including four email addresses and Google accounts).
Also, a quick note about the lockscreen wallpaper when you disable the ASUS Lanucher:
You WILL lose the ability to change the lockscreen wallpaper when you freeze the stock launcher. To change the wallpaper, simply unfreeze the ASUS Launcher, set it as the default, and use the function within the launcher itself (NOT the settings menu option) to change the wallpaper. You can then set your launcher of choice as the default once again, and freeze the ASUS launcher when you're finished. Your selection will be saved.
It is also worth mentioning that Xposed Framework does indeed work on my particular device, but I cannot be sure that it will work on yours (although I have no reason to believe that it wouldn't).
Feel free to reply with your own personal results with apps that I have not mentioned, or with your general gripes/pleasantries.

Asus Memo pad 7 Me70cx

@Monster212
I bricked my Me70cx using xposed installer de.robv.android.xposed.installer_v32_de4f0d.apk.
Would you mind to share with us which xposed installer worked for your Me70cx?
Thank you
The xposed installer I used was de.robv.android.xposed.installer_v33_36570c.apk
I have not been able to get xposed to work for me...
That's odd, because it's working perfectly on my device.
Did you modify the file system in any way after you rooted it? Not freezing of system apps, but ASUS firmware updates?
For instance, there's a very odd 29MB system update that might appear after you root some ASUS devices (in spite of the fact that rooted devices usually don't receive any OTA updates). This happened on the first ME70CX I had. I accepted the update, and afterwards the device wouldn't enter recovery. No matter what. It was the same day I purchased it, so I returned it for an identical model; the same one I have now. This tablet did not receive that update. I did not try xposed on the first one, but it might be worth mentioning anyway.
That's really the only thing I can think of that would affect xposed.
Has this tablet got a custom rom for it yet? All i keep seeing is the ME176C(X) custom roms but this is ME70CX

Newbie question: How to get name on home screen?

Using Galaxy S7 for one week. I have my name on owner's area. Saw this youtube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkasGhcitIY) on how to get name on S5 home screen. Want to do the same on my new S7. Can someone please explain step by step how to do it using the default wallpaper? IF not the default wallpaper, then on a wallpaper you can download from the Google play store. Detailed step by step would be appreciated. Where do you find the location of the wallpaper in order to edit it.
I am not really technically oriented but marvel at the great themes the people have made. If not too much trouble, what tools do you use (on a pc) to do such a great job.
Bob
well step-by-step for me would be:
1: download default wallpaper to PC
2: open wallpaper in Photoshop
3: insert my name with text of my choice
4: save
5: transfer back to my phone
6: set as new default wallpaper
7: smoke a cigarette
Location of the wallpaper?
Thank you for the quick reply. Where is the default wallpaper file located. I did not add an extra sim card so the Galaxy S7 phone is just the way you got it from the store.

I would just DL it directly to your PC via internet:
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=sung+galaxy+s7+default+wallpaper
I'm not sure which one you want, as it comes with many stock wallpapers, but many stock GS7 wallpapers come up available for download this way
Couldn't help the throwback "lmgtfy", but as a previous owner of an S5, it was likely rooted, as some custom ROMs allow you to add your name at the carrier location, as well as on the lockscreen, etc. And that's likely what you saw. But just Photoshopping a wallpaper should net the results you're looking for. Assuming I understood your question correctly

Automatically upload photos to Google Photos from OneDrive on your original Google Pixel XL (unlimited original quality photo uploads!)

The original Google Pixel XL was sold with a unique perk, it has unlimited original-quality photo and video uploads to Google Photos for the lifetime of the device.
I recently upgraded from my Pixel XL to a OnePlus 9 Pro. If I wanted to keep uploading for free, I somehow would have to transfer photos from my OnePlus 9 Pro to my Pixel XL. I'm also a bit upset that Google Photos now has ads in it (Google is advertising Google One plans inside Google Photos) so I want to disable Google Photos on my OnePlus 9 Pro because ads make me gag.
The solution I've found? Microsoft OneDrive. Here is what I did.
Disabled Google Photos on my OnePlus 9 Pro
Enabled "Camera upload" in Microsoft OneDrive settings on my OnePlus 9 Pro
Installed Google Photos and OneDrive on my Google Pixel XL
Enabled photo backup on Google Photos on the Pixel XL.
On my Pixel XL, avigated to the folder in OneDrive that contains my photo uploads and selected "Make available offline"
That's it. Now whenever I take a photo on my OnePlus 9 Pro it is uploaded to the Camera Roll folder on OneDrive. Then, my Pixel XL automatically downloads the photo and uploads it to Google Photos. You can even do this with screenshots and other saved images if you set OneDrive to back them up!
Overall, I'm super happy to have discovered this functionality. I did used to like Google Photos but now that there are ads in it, this is a cool way to bypass them and still use the service! The unlimited original quality photo uploads are just a bonus!
Edit: At least one person has had trouble with this method, but I can confirm this works on both stock software and LineageOS.
Cool, I did a similar thing with my OnePlus 7Pro and SyncThing.
The cool thing is, when I free up space on the Pixel in the photos app, it deletes the photos on device, but since the folders are synced, it also deletes the files on my 7 Pro. So I don't have to worry about manually doing anything.
Seems like the "make available offline" function on OneDrive requires premium subscription. Can anyone else confirm this issue?
