Erratic wifi performance - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i was having issues with my wifi speed on my phone, the speeds were so slow it coldn't navigate the web properly, so i tried the usual troubleshooting steps, i noticed that it worked fine if i booted into safe mode, so after that i did a factory reset on the phone, it worked great... for a few days, today i started to get erratic wifi speeds (it jumps from 25Mbps down to 1 and usualy stays around 5Mbps on a 35Mbps connection both on 2.4 and 5Ghz), it isn't a router issue (i changed the router and every other device on the network works fine), so does anyone have any idea?
Running stock nougat, not rooted and locked bootloader (phone is still under warranty, i just want to know because they might not find any issue if a stock reset temp fixes it again)
Also speeds on 4g is worked as intended.
Btw i am running 1st of august security patch (System version25.201.3) not sure it will be of any use but figured why not

LTE EI03 TW update wifi issues....

I added the EI03 ROM for the verizon LTE tab. Everything was great, only problem was it was a little slow. Had it for two days. Today, I get home form work and the damn thing wont connect to Wifi. It sees my home network but gets stuck and says "obtaining IP adress". The crazy thing is I can connect to 3g or LTE with no problem...My Driod Bionic and this laptop are currently on the same network.
Heres what I have done...
1) I unplugged my router and modem for ten minutes twice.....no luck
2) I tried the Allshare work around that peopl posted about...nothing
3) downloaded the galaxy tab DHCP fix app ....nothing
4) reset the tab at least 7 times....nada
I am guessing this is the 3.2 Build? I got nothing else. I am guessing I have to reload 3.1 and go back to liquidspeed....
Am I missing someting? is there ANY suggesitons?
Thanks in advance
You've probably done it but haven't listed it; delete wifi network settings for your network and set that up again . . . then if that doesn't work delete ALL wifi network settings for ALL networks you've connected to and set up your network again . .
If after all that you still get nothing, see what happens when you strip all network security temporarily from your network, just to see if wifi is truly hosed on the tab.
Just brainstorming things I'd try before going back to Liquidspeed.
So far my wifi has been rock solid for the past two days. At home I'm running WPA2 Personal and at work I'm running standard WEP. I toggle my wifi on/off when I leave either location and haven't had any connection issues thus far.
I did that as well. Literally everything connected to the router without encryption on except the tab. It just was suck on "obtaining IP address"
after some research this seems very similar to the wifi cutoff issue the wifi only owners had with the 3.2 official OTA update that Samsung had to fix.
I'm hoping this isn't the case. Any body else got any other suggestions

UPDATE
I see what went wrong. In an effort to re root the tab, I applied Kernel.zip that should only be used for 3.1 LTE devices.
I reloaded TW 3.2 on the LTE and could connect to wifi immediately. When I tried to root again, I applied kernel and this happened again.
Apparently I dont get this. Oh well. I a, gonna go back to EG01 where I am comfortable rooting and Overclocking.
The instructions said to apply Recovery (the new one), but ti continued to fail, so I assumed I needed to apply kernel first. This is just not working for me.
I tried and failed about 4 times. back to the original rom it is
reloading 3.2
How did you reinstall 3.2? I'm having the same wifi issues on my GTab LTE.

WIFI extremely slow

hi,
I recently bought a nexus 4, when I first used it with stock rom, everything was fine with the wifi speed i was getting from my internet connection (about 35 Mbps). So i tried out a few custom roms until i noticed an issue with the wifi speed , suddenly i wasn't getting more than 0,8 Mbps on the same connection, I thought it was an issue with the rom so I wiped and formated everything on my phone and used the nexus tool kit to flash a factory image.
Still the same problem, I again tried wiping and re flashing, but it does not change anything.
Does anyone have an idea what the issue could be ?

Your issue sounds similar to what happened to me. One day without any other changes my wifi speed tanked and the connection was iffy despite having strong signal and a clear wifi channel. In my case I fixed the problem by switching the router security from wpa to wpa2. I have no idea why that would help, but help it did. Maybe there is an obscure corner case radio bug. Maybe this will give you some ideas to try. My router is an old WRT-54G. Good luck.

I am already connected through wpa2, so it can't be that.
I heard wifi connectivity is controlled in the kernel, so I tried a few different ones, on all of them the same problem, the strange thing is Im always getting near exact 0,8 mbps,
ok now I switched off wifi optimisation (which cant be the reason because it was switched on all the time and it was working until recently) and the speed was normal again, switched it on again, still the speed is what it should be. Strange problem but I guess it is solved.

[Q] Wifi Speed

Hello all,
I've had my Nexus 10 since Christmas and it's never given me any problems. Within the last 3 or 4 days, however, I noticed my videos weren't loading like normal, so I've been running speedtests and it is completely inconsistent. My phone and computer will consistently pull 20+ Mbps, but the N10 is crazy. Sometimes it's 3Mbps, sometimes it's 10Mbps, sometimes it's 16Mbps. Every time I check, it's different. I've used multiple programs and websites to read the speeds, and they're all reporting the same. I can stand in another room, or right next to the router, same story. The wifi never fully drops, it just slows way down. I don't have a case on it. I've turned on and off the Wi-Fi optimization in settings. I've turned on and off location settings. Nothing helps! Please let me know if you have any ideas. I am hoping I won't have to return the darn thing, it seems crazy.
As per my internet, it's Comcast, Surfboard modem with a Linksys E1000 (Wireless-N, 2.4GHz) using WPA. Restarting that did not help. I am open to the idea of changing some settings on the router however, if that might be a solution. Also, signal strength on the N10 says "Excellent" and link speed says 130Mbps.
Thanks for your help!

I too have this problem so now Im going to attempt to root the device
Glad to hear someone else is having similar problems.
Possible good news: I changed my protection from WPA(mixed) to WPA2, and so far things seem to be much more consistent. This may just be a fluke, but it's looking much better so far.
If you have a router with 2.4GHz band only, try changing it to 2.4GHz under WiFi settings on the Nexus.
I had some disconnection problems due to that and somewhat inconsistent speeds, I've seen it fix a lot of peoples problems, I've yet to have a transfer problem so far with limiting WiFi to the speed of my router.
Other issues some see is using N wide or dual channel (40Mhz). As the N10 only supports 20 Mhz in 2.4GHz it seems to get confused.
Most other devices either support 40GHz or handle switching more gracefully.
In short force router to 20 Mhz/single channel, may report more consistent behaviour.
On 5Ghz it does not matter as the N10 supports 40Mhz/Dual channel.
Odd, I know.
My experience is that sometimes with wifi issues, wiping the cache (if custom recovery is available) would resolve the issues for some time, but it might be due to an beta ROM.
P.S> on 5GHz wifi I am able to hit 122Mb/s
it has WIFI, mine hardly works
After a few hours of testing, I am now consistently getting 20mbps + as I should be. My router is set to 20MHz only, but I think the main issue was the security settings. It just wasn't dealing with WPA(mixed) well.

Cannot connect to 802.11n, always reverts to 802.11b with 5mbps link speed

I'm experiencing a strange issue with my Note 3. Every time I connect to a wifi network it will quickly revert to 802.11b with a link speed of 5mbps. If the network is wireless N only, then it will not connect at all.
This happens on all ROMs, stock and custom. I've wiped and rewiped many times. It started randomly one day (no change to ROM, or other settings) and has persisted.
Has anyone had this issue?

WiFi unstable

Hi,
Is anyone having an instability issue with WiFi connection? This happens at home and work, but my phone at times disconnects from WiFi. It also struggles to connect to "saved" WiFi at times. For example, I came home today, and it didn't connect to my home network, so i turned wifi off and on, and kept checking it, and it eventually connected. I'm on stock (never rooted this phone) 8.1, but I've had this problem even before updating to 8.1. If you have any suggestions to fix this issue, I'd really appreciate it.
Thank you,
I haven't experienced that behavior. Did you try resetting your network settings? If that doesn't work I would do a full factory reset but if you do it's important to select the fresh start option in setup instead of restoring from a Google backup. The backup restores some system and app data and can easily restore whatever is causing your problem. Sometimes data gets corrupted and your phone needs a fresh start.
i have seen this issue. It only happens on my 5ghz network. When i connect to my 2.4ghz network it is stable.

Thank you for chiming in. This was driving me crazy. I'll try switching to 2.4 and see if it'll go away.

Actually it still disconnected Same result.
I'm having a similar issue where after the phone has slept for a while, the wifi basically doesn't respond anymore until I've turned the wifi fully off and back on. Signal shows fine even though no data flows. Happens both at home and my office. This wasn't an issue at all since owning the phone through all the betas. Only started happening with official Oreo release. Forgetting networks didn't work. I'm not willing to reset the whole device right now, too much to redo. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and has a solution.
I have one phone that sort of logs off. It says "tap to login" it is a google dialogue. It is on my home WiFi at 2.4GHZ. I will be doing a reset within a week to see if it fixes things...
I am doing my Hard Factory Reset now....wish us all luck.
8.1 Oreo broke my Essential, I want it back...
More to come...
Mine was doing that as well, after resetting my router no connection issues.
HARD Factory Reset
Well, it's done.
It has to be done and done as hard as possible. No reinstating ANY previous software settings of any kind.
I linked to my WiFi (non 5G) after reboot, and there has since been no issue.
This doesn't mean the problem has been solved. Days may pass before it surfaces again...
In the meantime, Telus, who provides me this service has stated that an in store test of device should show whether or not this is a warranty issue. Connection to an in-store WiFi should show quickly if it's a firmware issue, and a discussion can begin about device exchange.
That's all for now.
Good luck.

No issues at home or work connected to an N router at home and an AC router system at work. Also no issues connecting to various public WiFi nodes.
I second elkay, same exact problem I'm experiencing. I may consider a hard reset on my phone soon, in hopes that it resolves the issue. Otherwise, I will continue running on my mobile network. Hope an official solution or fix comes soon.
Unfortunately, even a hard reset didn't fix it for me. I did end up buying a new router a couple days ago which does seem to have fixed the issue in my home (was buying a new one due to wifi coverage in corners of the house anyway), but that obviously won't solve the issue at work. Not sure where the incompatibility is. FWIW, I went from a Netgear R7000 to an R7800. Both running DD-WRT with same configuration.
I had this issue with a new PH-1 that updated to 8.1. I was not able to connect to an 802.11n router with cloaked SSID without difficulty, when saved, amidst several other issues, that I attributed to the 8.1 update. I downgraded to 7.1.1 and the wifi issue is resolved.
I just got an Essential Phone during the prime day deals and was experiencing the same issues. Download at 20mb/s for a couple of seconds then tank to 0.2mb/s.
Has anyone tried the latest Android P beta 3? It seems to have fixed my wifi throttling.
My phone was doing OK until a recent update. Now my phone disconnects and reconnects WiFi like crazy. Sometimes a dozen times in a few minutes. This is driving me crazy.
If you do not have Pie on your device load it.
I had serious WiFi connection problems on the last Oreo update but when I got the Pie update they disappeared and the phone has been fine since.
I'm on Pie and I still have this problem where the wifi will drop randomly every minute or two, but sometimes it's fine.
That's bizarre.... I had the one horrible Oreo update (as did a lot of others reporting in here) but since Pie it's been ok. I have both 2.4 and 5Ghz here but usually run on 2.4 as my router is in the next room and 5Ghz doesn't get through the walls nearly as well.
