My SD card is fast enough ( I hope ) and you don't need super fast SD for timelaps. There is 1 pic per 3-5 sec. But thanx for the hint, I will try to change SD card anyway.

[q] sd card speed matters

Hello All I have a very simple question but plays a very important role in performance.
I got a 2GB SD CARD FROM SAMSUNG.
I have another LOCAL SD CARD 4GB
My question is will the SPEED Remain same to transfer or access data from both these SD CARDS.
I mean to say is will the LOCAL SD CARD BE SLOWER(since its not samsung branded) IN ACCESSING AND RETRIEVING DATA which will eventually slow down my phone or something like that.
I hope you all understood my question..will elaborate if u want me to.
hoping for a good answer.
Thanks

cumon guys a small opinion would make a big difference
I am not very knowledgeable about this, but the class of the SD card matters when comparing performance. Here is a link that might help:
http://www.sdcard.org/developers/tech/speed_class/
i have noticed that when i changed sd card from samsung original (came with phone) to new transcend 8gb sd card, phone is now booting for 5 minutes....
It being a samsung card doesn't make the card more "compatible" with a samsung phone. A card is defined by the card, not by the brand.

yeah so it means that performance has degraded right.
Also i think booting is not much worry as its done from ROM
so apart from booting what else is buggy or degrading performance, comparing both 2 GB and 8 GB
its on a card to card basis, if it is slower for him it doesnt mean it will be slower for you.
You should use a Class 6 SD card. Slower cards are not adequate.

You can use a class 6 SD card, however, i do not think the phone is capable of handling such high speed cards, and thus the read/write speed of the phone will limit the speed.
Conclusively i don't think there will be an increase in performance!

Writing on internal and external SD via USB is soooo sloooooow...

Hi !
I just bought a Galaxy Note. I've tried Touchwiz 2 minutes and I decided to install ICS Stunner (Touchwiz is really a piece of crap, but it's my opinion).
Now, I try to transfert movies from my PC to the Galaxy Note... And it's crazyly slow !!!
3.5 mo / s for internal card
1 mo/s MAX for SD card (with an SD adaptator, speed is above 6.5 mo/s, so it isn't the sd card...)
What is your speed ? Is it rom related or something is wrong ?
Thank you !
Same for me...its so slow that I have dropped the idea of copying new movies to my external card for now...

I get about 10 mb/s write speed on my class 10 samsung 32gb sd connected by usb or with the sd adapter.
Might be your pc is faulty.....

I woukd rate them best in the class..... even better than sandisk ones....
Waiting for the price to drop a little bit more... never see them below 60 $
I have used both the Samsung and the SanDisk with no problems. Cannot recommend one over the other - both fast and reliable.

Samsung micro sd is my first choice its never failed me, second choice Strontium (Singapore) it just as good as Samsung and just a little cheaper (i was very surprised its performance and quality, i own 2 x 32gb its as fast as Samsung Pro class).
-Samsung still my first choice, Sandisk too many failure these days.

I use a Sandisk Ultra 64GB micro SD card and have recently removed it due to an overheat problem near the camera/flash area. I did not want to risk burning out the card (9months old) and I was told that removing the card might improve the over heat problem but it has not as of yet.

Up to 256Gb sd card storage

Hi guys, I found a little thing I thought I might share, a mod to fit a larger than 64gb sd card to the Note 10.1.
I found an sd to micro sd adatpor here - www.linitx.com/product/sdmicro-to-sd-card-adapter/11922
It is an internal sd card adaptor so fits inside the micro sd card slot of your Note 10.1. It takes 128gb or 256gb sd cards and as they are formatted exFat the Note 10.1 will run them with no problem.
I use a Zenus case so I have the sd card adaptor stuck to the back of the Note and then put back in the case to protect it. I'm sure an enterprising person out there may decide to do an internal mod but I really don't have time and this works for me...
It works fine, I'm running a 128Gb sd card with no problems.
Thought it might be of interest to you lot so posted here...
Cheers....
Glad to hear it works but if it's gonna hang out anyway, why not use a much cheaper OTG cable and a much cheaper USB stick?

You can, Its where I found the link for the sd adaptor.
Here's the link to the Note 3 thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2518175

I found the battery drain on the OTG was considerable.
It is very good battery life using the sd adaptor. I was watching movies and TV shows for a solid 6 1/2 hours with another 1 1/2 browsing and downloading and only got to 46% battery.
I thought I should mention I use only the 128Gb sd card but even so it has enough storage now....
wow, for real, haha, this is so good

Perhaps I try something like this with my next phone...
Would this work for some of the SDIO cards that offer 3G/LTE connection?

Only just seen this. Have thanked.
The OTG multicard adapter I use is a real PIA. I can't stand the Tablet up with it in the way my case is made. This looks good. [edit] Even if I only use it for 32/64GB cards ! [/edit]
Hey guys, sorry to bring back such an old thread, but I got a 256GB SD card but how can I format it to exFat?

Easeus is what I use to partition and format.
But question is will I be able to format exFat a 256GB SD card? I heard 128GB is the highest that can be exFat?
