Right, Every OP5 screen has been set upside down so jelly thing is there, even on mine.
But some people might not notice it. Well thats fine. No worries.
If you want to feel jelly free effect, install Rotation control.
- install the app
- open app- > start controlling rotation.
- Go to notification drawer.
- make the display reverse.
- TADAAAA Here you go,,, OP5 without "Jelly" LOL.
To be honest, I am kinda liking this Jelly effect.
What do you guys say ?

Coming from an iPhone, where the jelly effect is part of messages, I don't notice it a lot... Also, after having the device for over a week I notice it less every day...
I prefer hardware keys, so using the phone upside down is a no-go. I can live with the jelly.
People are overreacting in my opinion. This jelly doesn't interfere with the daily usage, it's just a visual thing.
Nothing to RMA your phone for, except if you have some sort of OCD.

I can't even notice my jelly anymore. It's been adopted by my brain as a feature. lol
Anyway, isn't there a motorola phone with the same issue?
People find anything to complain about. I love my OP5!
The jelly scrolling reminds me of the Rainbow Effect on old DLP screens. You notice it at first, but after a while you don't even see it anymore. I can't believe people are making such a fuss about it
People pay out money, to some it isn't too much, to others a fortune. Either way, you paid for an item that, in your eyes, is defective.
Complain as much as you want, it probably won't change anything...
@ultramag69, it isn't defective. It's a design flaw. Defective means it's broken, which it isn't. Design flaw means it was poorly designed.
Let's face it, it could be worse (looking at you, Note 7).

Ah yes, the Note 7. The Gamblers phone...
Might explode when you charge it, don't charge it, touch it, leave it alone or look at it cross-eyed....
Again though, a design flaw to you is defective to others who can't live with the jellyscroll... Is subjective....

So, I got the vibrant, and overall I like it because its much more responsive than both my G1 and MyTouch, but kind of have the following thoughts.
1. I feel having an LED has to be a big mistake/oversight. I cant imagine the LED would have much added cost for samsung nor be very big/require much space. Yet would have a GREAT improvment on the user experience. I hate not being able to glance at my phone and see what happened. Plus, it's alot less battery than having to turn on the screen. There are some hacks - forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=725458 - being done to compensate, but none are 'great' solutions, although clever.
2. Battery life - for an AMOLED screen, I'm surprised my battery drains as fast as it does. It lasts me 3/4 of a day more or less. I do have a few things installed, and do use the feed widgt for facebook etc, and have gmail and work email synced. I think it still doesnt last as long as it should. I'm considering removing the facebook widget and adjusting sync times to get more battery back, but still feels lacking.
P.S. : Isnt there some sort of App that can help me identify which apps are using the most battery/CPU time?
3. Calendar Notification - This is something I cant understand. I have worke mail synced to my phone, as well as my calendar for it synced. I get long vibrations and sound (if my phone isnt on vibrate), but there is no way I can find to adjust the notification to be less annoying. I know other users have noticed the same issue
4. Bloatware - I dont mind the fact that they install alot of apps on the phone that other users may find interesting, but I really feel they should make it easier to remove them. I shouldnt have to go through extra effort to get the bloatware removed.
5. Camera App - its a nice app, but I dont like how after taking a picture it does not switch back to camera... you have to hit the back button.
6. Power on button - You already have to do a slide to unlock... why on earth is the power button so small and obtrusive? I feel this is a bit quircky.
7. Proximity sensor - I dont know about you guys, but it took me a while to figure out why, when I am on the phone, the screen kept lighting up on and off. I *think* I figured out that the proximity sensor right next to the ear piece detects if your head is near the phone, and if it is away from it, it will light up the phone. I find this rather annoying, maybe I hold the phone awkwardly, but several times it has lit up while talking and I've accidentally muted etc.
So ya, </rant>
Overall, the phone is nice and a well needed improvement over my previous phone, but I feel there were just a few simple things that samsung could of done to make it a solid release.
What do others think?

I'm glad you felt the need to be a complete jerk in your response. Very smooth and professional.
FYI the rant was partially so others (who may want to get the phone) know what issues and downsides I've personally experienced, and partially to see if anyone has any suggestions on ways to imrpove/fix some of my issues.
If you have nothing smart to say next time, it may be best to just keep it to yourself.

this posting was worth it allow for this fine joke of yours...nice one do you do stand up?
@temperbad - the reason people on this forum will harass you about your post is mainly this:
xda-developers is just that - a DEVELOPERS forum. Most people who want to complain about devices go to forums for those devices that address general discussion. This forum caters to people who "mod" their devices. While many new-comers do come to this forum and are welcomed - it is appreciated if they stay on topics related to app modification/generation, themeing, developing and modifying ROMS and such.
So, while many do get on here and post about other crap - it is only tolerated by those that seriously want to use these forums for the intended purposes.
Your rant about this device will most likely only be heard by those who own the device out of necessity or desire - AND, by people who are already committed to owning the device. THEY DON'T CARE about hearing someone complain about a device they are already committed to!
So, in the future please make these kinds of posts on forums on which people discuss more general topics or cater to the device "generally" instead of on a forum that is dedicated to DEVELOPMENT and MODIFICATION.
I am not attempting to be harsh - however, hopefully, others will read this and will not post topics that are not related to this forum.
MOST OF THE REALLY GREAT DEVELOPERS ARE RAN OFF from Development forums because of all the off topic comments. We hope that one day this will stop.... But, I am beginning to feel like all hope is lost...
@shaneaus - yes, I understand that, but I did post in the GENERAL section. Also, I understand this is a developer forum. I'm a developer myself and have trolled the forums for a few years, and there are some development solutions to the problems I mentioned (like notifications) etc...
Thanks for the thoughtful response though.
Every phone has it's shortcomings
Return it or whine about it
At this point I would suggest you move on
wait for the froyo update and some of your issues may be resolved.

Are you people serious? You don't know how a Proximity sensor works on these phones? "Bloatware" as if T-Mobile hid it from you and has SO much of it on this phone? "Photo review, a feature that YOU CAN TURN OFF IN THE CAMERA SETTINGS?!" "PS isn't there an app that will tell me what is using the most battery" - Wow. Just wow. And you call this a "rant"? Maybe you should consult the owners manual before creating threads like this.
You knew or should've known that there is no LED Notification light on this phone. If you're trying to tell me that the battery life is worse on this phone than the G1 you're doing something seriously wrong.

Yes yes.. So true... I stand by my first post with pride.....
Annoying things samsung was lazy about in the release/build of the vibrant's software:
HTC Sense UI makes Samsung's touchwiz Interface seem like a fail sorta.
I'm being sincere and want to know if you guys agree or disagree with the below. I hope Samsung can address these issues with the Froyo release. This can make up for the cheap quality hardware build. I love the phone though. seriously. ok here we go:
Issues:
1. Switching from edge to 3g takes a lifetime
2. Slight lag in the standard software going from screen to screen (i shouldn't have to use a home replacement like adw or launcher pro for smooth scrolling)
3. The market is horribly slow to load and often says retry-connection error
4. When going into the photo gallery, old pics show first. (annoying because I have many pictures and have to go through them to get to the newest ones)
5. In the feeds and updates widget, someone may load a picture, u click on it and a tiny pic is shown (u can't *like* it or enlarge it) *Facebook action*
6. If you click on a contact, go to the media tab, let it load then click on an album, it takes you to the browser (why not fetch it within the app?)
7. When you reply to a twitter/Facebook/Myspace status update, it automatically refreshes the feed (i don't need another refresh if i didn't request it by pressing the refresh button) it should take you back to the feed
8. ACCOUNTS AND SYNC have been horrid. They work when it wants to. Always receive an error more often than not. facebook/twitter/myspace
9. Battery take 2 lifetimes to charge
I don't agree with the Sense UI making Touchwiz3 look like a fail, there are issues that it has within itself that others dislike. However, please be aware that Samsung is quite new to the game and is still developing.
The only problem I have in common with yours is the market issue which is pretty irritable.

1. Doesn't for me, and this is the first I'm hearing of that. Perhaps you are in an area with poor reception or have a defective device.
2. I have no lag at all. Are you running any intensive widgets? Live wallpapers? A million things running in the background?
3. Again, that's a sign of being in a poor reception area which isn't the phone's fault. If you haven't already, I would try activating and swapping out the SIM card out for a new one if you are using an older one from a previous phone. That has solved some people's problems.
4. There should be a setting to sort by date. If there isn't, *shrug*. There are other good picture viewing apps in the market. I find the Gallery app to be very helpful in sharing pictures though.
5. Facebook makes an official app. Same goes for Twitter and Myspace. Some specific social networking actions, such as "liking" can't be done with the widget or in the contacts menu. I find the widget is good for a quick updating of statuses or tweeting.
6. If it gets you to the same point, then? The browser is speedy enough on this phone that you shouldn't need to worry about using it as opposed to the built-in apps that take you there.
7. Again, there are tons of other software in the market to use if you wish to not use the ones provided.
8. This is the social networks fault, not the phones. Facebook sync in particular works when it wants to for me. But it's Facebook's fault. Something awry with their server connections. Twitter always syncs for me.
9. Mine takes 4-5 hours from dry to charge fully. That's the downfall of having a bigger battery, you get more usage out of it but it takes longer to charge. Make sure you are using the wall charger and not a USB port on your computer (USB charging any device takes a lifetime as USB ports don't draw a lot of power anyway). If possible, turn the device off as it charges. It will charge much quicker this way. Perhaps leave the device off overnight and charge it up?
These seem like general smartphone complaints and really not much to do with the Vibrant specifically. Most of these phones have the same general minor annoyances or glitches. Sense is OK, nothing special. It's all personal taste but after using Sense for a month and then TouchWiz for 2 weeks, I much prefer TW. The Launcher and the Samsung specific apps really integrate services, social features, and Android very nicely. If you don't like the Launcher you can always use the other two big ones in the market, they work just as well. You can also use any messaging app you wish.
The hardware feels light for a reason. The heavier the device is, the harder it falls when you drop it. If you've seen all of the quality tests of people dropping the phone, trying to scratch it, etc, you would see that the build quality is amazing. The metal-looking plastic on the rim will take the most damage. Screen is scratch-resistant, not scratch-proof.

@MMcCraryNJ
Ive had 3 vibrants already.. returned two for different issues.
thanks for your reply: I have been a smart phone user for a long time and im pretty intuitive when it comes to devices and their flaws.. I mention these issues because they trully exist. I have ran into many people from different sites whom experience the same things.. i just wanted to converse with the xda family about it. You advised that i use alternate applications via the market to fulfill my desires but that's not what I want to do or feel that needs to be done. Just like the iphone, don't tell me i have to get a rubber case to enjoy the phone because of bad reception/antenna build. The perks within the widgets could be added and indirectly im asking for some extra features in which would be attainable by Samsung. if you don't speak on it, things wont ever get done because people try to make this phone seem as if its flawless and it's not.. it's ok to admit to certain issues and not sugar coat them lol. The phone has treated me very well though besides the few annoyances just like everyone has their own preferences ya know?

Market issue and app lag in general is easy to fix. look up vibrant stalling thread, lag is due to how slow the storage is. By moving app storage to nand, you fix the issue, there are only a few side effects which most of us wont run into anyways.
I've had nexus one and ran desire rom with sense, I've had evo4g with sense, and older android phones with sense. I skipped Samsung phone, whatever it was called on Tmobile, the first Samsung android due to touch wiz. Hated it, was super slow, retarded looking, and buggy. When I heard about the vibrant, I was hesitant as I did not want touch wiz, I hated how it was in the past. Still got the phone, and wow.... I love it! I replaced launcher with adw because I Just like the way it looks more, but everything else is great. I actually prefer touch wiz to sense, it looks more modern, has some neat features.
Although, I do agree with you that it still does have issues, so does sense, specially espresso version of it on the slide. My girl has it, omg, I'd throw that phone out of the window... lol
My biggest issue with touch wiz now is the messaging. It lags, specially if you're texting several people at once. It also refuses to scroll up in the thread sometimes, just bounces back down. Despite it, I still love it, makes an already good looking OS, look better. I do prefer the visuals of touch wiz to sense, personal preference. Sense feels like a a fancy limo to me. Over the top classy visuals, with too much bloat, and overall is rather slow. Touch wiz is like a BMW, looks superb, just enough flare to make it look modern, still runs fast.
The lag in sense is mostly graphical, just feels choppy. My guess is that it is mostly related to devices themselves, as they are not as powerful as the vibrant. Like, oncrhe nexus one, 3d gallery loads just as fast, but animations feel a little choppy, on vibrant it is very smooth. And your issue with gallery, I think it is more android related and not touch wiz. Nexus is full stock and it uses same 3d gallery as the vibrant, it does the same thing when it comes to ordering.

To number 9 specifically. He's right about charging, I think its mostly done by Samsung to preserve the battery. Nexus one has 1400mah battery, I also threw a 1500mah right before I sold it. I noticed slow charging immediately on the vibrant, nexus one charged way faster. I'm used to it now though, I always leave it on the charger over night anyway. So, the issue is not with higher capacity battery, but Samsung improving the battery life, at least I think.
And op, android is not like apple, very open sourced. It is very easy to customize and there are a ton of replacement apps on the market which could help. Like launchers, very useful and don't even waste memory as default launcher gets disabled if you run an alternate one. Point is, nothing wrong with voicing opinions and hoping that Samsung will fix or improve things. But, That will take ages, and it is a long shot. Why discredit aftermarket apps? They do no harm and could really help You enjoy your phone more.

Its a shame you are comparing a hardware issue(iphone) with software issue that you are having. The iphone fails because it is hardware and there are pretty much no other options but to fix it with a case however with your phone you can install different apps. You can use other apps than stock, i keep Twitter installed due to the integration with TW however i use Twidroid im sorry Twidroyd for my day to day twitter client. This phone is far from flawless i would relate the lock/power button to the iphones reception problem however with ours there is no case fix. I think it was a poor oversight on Samsung's part to put the button on the side of a rounded housing at that!

This is a netowrk parameter setting. By increasing the time between scans your local T-mobile market is increasing your battery life and reducing the paging load on the network. Everytime you ping pong between 2G and 3G you have to do a location area update so the network knows where to find you. EVeryone doing that would overload the system and some calls would not be delivered. Aka, they are probably doing a good thing.

Once again, a network issue.
This I agree with.
I don't understand what this means. Could you elaborate?

I can't speak for markets I don't work on, but from time to time corporate changes the recommended settings. There have been a few changes specifically to the 2G and 3G interaction lately. There are also different "release classes" of handsets and they don't always support the newest "features". So sometimes a parameter change only affects certain handsets and not others.
Hi XDA, longtime lurker, first time poster. Love the forum, thanks for taking my post...*laff*
I have had a smartphone back to when they weren't phones (Motorola PageWriter). I remember the bad old days of the Pocket PC phones, how good Blackberries were with email when they hit the market and a charter G1 owner.
I can say without hesitation that the Vibrant is the best smartphone I have ever owned.
My only qualm at this point is the whole phone/google contact thing in the TouchWiz contacts app, I hate that I can't set custom ring tones or use the "groups" function for Google contacts and can't sync the "phone" contacts...I hate that, with a passion.
Seems like Samsung is treating Google contacts like an LDAP server instead of the seamless integration I had with my G1.
Other than that, I really like TouchWiz.
I just bought a Nexus 4, and am waiting for it to arrive. I just read about this dreaded pinch zoom delay (i.e. delay when zooming). Is this still an issue with the latest ROMs/kernels out there? I can see this causing me a lot of frustration if not fixed.
I've already searched, and the threads I've found are all either old or have not been completely answered.
Thanks!
I have no problem with zooming, and I bet that you won't too. Just wait for the phone, and don't read all the bad stuff. It won't do you any good. There are some rare bugs, but most users don't have them.
I don't have any delay in zooming issue either.

There is no zoom delay, its a dead zone. You have to move your fingers a certain amount before it detects it as a pinch to zoom or zoom out. I think it is intentional. Try doing it extremely slow, you'll see what I mean.

You've got it right. It's DEFINITELY present and those who don't see it either just innocently don't notice it or are denying it. Every single video review of the N4 I've seen has pointed out this issue (or feature, if you like) and I can very clearly see it on my device as well. OP, I'm not saying you should care about it (I don't even notice it any more) but it does exist.
I thought it was established long ago that the culprit was 'chrome' browser.. i just checked it in AOSP browser i cant seem to see any delay.

yeah its definitely there, but it is not lag, not even kind of, or delay or anything. it doesn't really bother me, i dont know why some people get so worked about it. what would happen if they cranked the dead zone down to zero... everyone would complain that its impossible to fine tune how close and far they are trying to zoom, or they keep zooming in and out on accident lol.
Yup, defiantly by design. If you start with your fingers already apart some, there is no delay at all.

the iphone don't have it so does my sister's xtreamer joyz(newman n2) with android 4.1.1 no one ever complained about hard fine tuning zoom!
i have this dreadfull deadzone too on my htc one x running aosp based 4.3(cm10.2) while on my sister's phone its a pleasent user experience.
note: THIS "LAG" IS NOT PRESENT IN FIREFOX!(no deadzone at all)
so definatly its an andorid gallery/gmail/browser(and any relying software like g+ whatsapp etc...) thingy.
this minimal distance deadzone is coming into notice when you are used to start zooming with fingers close together.
aka how zoom should be.
any way of trimming that distance out?
Haven't totally verified it, but it looks like Samsung took away the Lock effect, watercolor, which gives the nice water sound and lets you splash around the colors on the opening lock screen. Will find out more tomorrow, anyone else experiencing this same option missing ?
another guy in the other ota update thread mentioned the same thing.
I can confirm that it did in fact remove the effect on the lockscreen... What in the world... That was a nice feature. Mind you it lagged beastly for such a powerful device. (Specs sheet wise)
PS: I can definitely see a noticeable difference in speed. It might be just for the time been. But i'll keep you guys posted.
There is something about that water effect that causes more lag than it should. I noticed on my first generation Note 10.1 that disabling it improved speed on the homescreen and even typing. It shouldn't, but it did. When I noticed this I asked two other guys and they were having issues with lag. I told them to disable the water effect. Both also agreed that it improve the speed of the device as a whole.
Doesn't make any sense. I was, however, glad to see the ripple effect gone. It is beautiful though (less the lag)
Why do they take it away...regardless...

If indeed it cause lagged, why not just give the option of the three effects on the lock screen and add, an off feature and let the user of the tablet decide if they want it off or not. They also, have bugs in the high end graphics games crapping out. They also have cause the S-voice to crash when you ask certain questions, they also have contacts created with action memo failing to keep first and last names apart. I will do a video on all this nonsense and post it on youtube. Hopefully, Samsung will see it and respond with some sort of fix for all this stuff, and maybe just maybe they will put back the ripple effect and let us chose if we want it or not. And by the way Samsung if your reading this, your tablet still is laggy at times even with this ripple effect turned off.

almost ready to return tablet ...cant take samsung and the way they do the updates. total disregard for the user, not fixing the real bugs instead taking away a feature that I found to be quite soothing and liked very much. just frustrating company. I will do a video tomorrow and lets see how samsung responds to my doozy of a video.

Ok, well Im wondering what lag you guys are referring to. My point was that all samsung had to do was give an option to turn off, the effect, for those that wanted to, and they could have stated it makes the tablet slightly if any faster. Anyway, Believe it or not, I was able to add it back in for those who like to use it and guess what the lag issues are still fixed. The app is called galaxy locker here is the link and it works like a charm.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lockscreen.galaxy
I wonder if part of the reason for turning it off was for the multiuser cause they needed to make the lock screen more like AOSP?
I thought I was going insane when I turned my tablet on and the watercolor effect was gone. I am hoping they bring it back or at least replace it with something better-looking than the current Tab 3 lock screen.
Do you guys have a slight delay when you press the home button on the note until it lights up to the lockscreen? Mine is smooth are silk once I pass the lock screen but I still have that slightly delay

My has about a 1 second delay. That is a little improved with the last update. I'm all for them taking out the eye candy like that lockscreen effect and focusing on the basic speed and quality of the apps.

Every samsung device I've ever used has this home button delay. Even though the hardware has gotten exponentially faster and the OS has become more and more optimized. At this point it's not a delay anymore, it's a feature.
Lol.. ok cool I was just checking. It's not a big deal. Once you're in I'd say it's definitely snappier since third update

Can anyone please report if they are seeing lots of crazy frame drops on this phone? I'm running rooted Xxx No Limits, but have observed the same on Elemental OS too. When you turn on 'Profile GPU Rendering' in the Developer Settings to 'On screen bars', I see a crazy amount of frame drops every where. I bought this phone because it is suppose to offer the best smoothness and performance rivaling only the Pixel, specially after the fantastic 3T. Attached are some images showing the frame drops on even mundane tasks like scrolling Settings menu. Is anyone else seeing this behavior?
I use Action Launcher, but can anyone report if they see this on their stock launcher or other launchers?
PS: The phone 'seems' smooth and fast when doing these tasks. It doesn't seem to slow down and drop frames like crazy like an S8 or G6, which can be seen with the naked eye. It's only when I turn on GPU profiling that I can detect these frame drops. Is the GPU profiling reporting 'broken' and incorrectly reporting lots of frame drops? I'm confused.
Hey, I just checked and I got the exact same results, maybe even a bit more drops than you do. I'm using the stock launcher. Phone is absolutely smooth aside from that. I'm not sure, but this may be in correspondence with the jelly-scrolling issue? I'm not sure if I'm affected though, if yes, the jelly effect is minimal.
Are you affected by the jelly scrolling?

I don't see the jelly scrolling effect on my phone. I'm not sure if this frame drop issue and the jelly scrolling effect are related. Its interesting to know that you see a lot more frame drops in the rendering.
i agreed with you, for this phone having the latest 835 which is suppose to give a straight line of performance (no frame drops) yet i see a lot of those
what the hell is going on with this phone ...
i dont know if its the phone or the softwere but im so returning, the only reason i bought was because of the 835 and because its was the latest and will give you continues performance, its all a lie
Probably because the screen is upside down!

Just tested on a Galaxy S8 and that graph looks even worst!!!!
What's happening?!?! Snap 835 is the culprit?
But I've seen a review with the HTC U11 and it doesn't do this.
Yeah mine is far from smooth as well, dunno,it just does not scroll smooth, my Nexus 5 on MIUI is soooo much smoother, way less frame drops.. I suppose theissue will vanish with the right ROM / Optmization, perhaps changing to a different CPU governor could help already..

Its like the Jelly scrolling thing. I bet 85% of the people *****ing about it haven't even held a OP5. I watched those videos and then paid close attention to my 6P, guess what? It does the same damn thing!
About the only real issues I have seen are the WiFi and autobrightness issues, and camera performance. The WiFi seems to have been fixed and the camera could and most likely will be improved... I hope.
And from what I have seen out of the camera isn't bad, but it is very average for a phone bought 2 years ago. I just believe the hardware is much more capable of better results.

Thank god I am not the only one, reading through some of the threads I am starting to feel like I am the crazy here. People are like "The phone is smooth but this tool is showing frame drops, **** Oneplus, I am returning this phone."
So they will return a 500€ flagship which runs smooth and they dont notice lags without a tool? They expect that the CPU is the cause of frame drops?
Seriously, this must be a joke. Its just looking for a problem when you dont have one.
I do notice the jelly scrolling, but its minimal, so its kinda cool, like a subtle animation.
Camera could be better but nobody can say its bad, they just overhyped it and didn't meet expectation.
Battery life is like out of this world, I got 8h of SoT, good luck on other phones with that.
No other issues were encountered in the meantime. Perfect phone.
