Hey guys.
My first post ever, so please bare with me.
I made a big mistake updating to 4.4.2 coz I've had only problems since that. I have a rooted SM-N9005 with a Danish carrier. I have read and read and read for at fix, but can't seem. to find on. . My problem is this.. I can have a fully charged battery, unplug the phone and can, by using the power button, turn the phone off and on again. BUT if I pull the battery out and insert it again after 10 sec, then the phone doesn't turn on. It only turns if it gets the power cord in again. That's the first problem.
The second on is the battery drain. I have done a dalvik clean, cache partition clean, factory reset, soft reset, hard reset, uinstalled pretty much every app that I have... nothing helps. I even bought a new battery.
Can you guys help me or guide me in the right direction on what to do??
Thank you in advance
Can't help with your first problem, sorry.
How quickly is your battery draining? Can you post a screenshot? And more details - custom/stock ROM, kernel etc.
You can try and pin down what is the biggest battery hog with Better Battery Stats.

Hey B3311
Thanks for the reply
A couple of screen shots. Even when using BBS I haven't been able to pin point the exact cut print
Dreadful drain indeed....
Can you see what's under "partial wakelocks" and "kernel wakelocks" in BBS?
You had wifi on but still huge drain when the screen was off and the phone was asleep, hence I'm thinking wakelock - something is stopping your phone from sleeping. But you need BBS or Wake Lock Detector to pin it down.
They can be a ***** to find, but can be zapped.

Hey Jdomadia
Pretty much everything is off.. data . GPS.. Bluetooth and so on.. I'm still wondering if my problem is due to the power button issue that I'm having
Hi Bro i had the same problem the source of it is the developper option just desable them from settings and every thing will be normal again i hope that works for you too
Hey Abdel310
That never cross my mind. Better Google how to disable them once I have enabled them. Bro, I tried everything so I'm gonna try this straight away!!
Just did it, and man if that helps I'll be the happiest camper you'll ever see
i had the same problem i left my phone fully charged and i go to sleep and at the morning i found it off and 0 % battery and no apps runnig just try it and full charg it and it will not drain battery at lest in the sleep mode
Sadly disabling the developer option didn't fix the problem..
it still drain battery in sleep mode ?
the latest screen shots from better battery stats. I can't find any partial wake lock that seems to cause the drain
It's starting to sound more like a malfunctioning battery itself. Especially considering your first issue.
Have you tried a different battery?
Also try it without the SIMcard. A malfunctioning SIM can also cause these issues. (Happened to me back on 4.3. Drained 12%/h, not a single wakelock and 98% deep sleep. No SIM, no drain. New SIM fixed it.)

So here is the latest update.. I found out that even when the phone is off, like shut down the phone drains the battery. had to phone to a complete charge, shut off the phone and left it alone.. during the night the battery was drained... and it's a brand new battery

If you can get your hands on another battery, just to test, try that (could be you bought a bummer battery) Do you have any friends with Note 3 you can swap batteries with just to see what it does?
Hey Burtcom
tanks for the reply. I can't believe that it's the battery, without knowing for sure. I'm still wondering if my problem is due to the power button issue.. as I mentioned, if I remove a fully charged battery from the phone and reinsert it, then the phone won't turn on. it will only turn on with a power cord.
Now my phone drains the battery even when the phone is off.. like completely turn off.
So I have my phone like 4 days now and the first day I immediately noticed that when I turn off the screen it drains battery like hell (60+% in one night). It's like the cpu doesn't go to sleep at all.. Sometimes it works fine and looses like 5% at night that's fine for me but then the next day it will loose 10+ % in one hour by doing nothing...
The phone is pure stock, I changed nothing, no root or anything...
This is really annoying have no idea what it could be that drains so much battery.. Already looked if an app was draining but no...
Someone has the same problem? Or maybe knows how to fix this?
Clear the cache.
In case you don't know.
Turn phone off
Hold Home + Power + Volume Up till you see the Samsung logo, then let go of all buttons.
A menu should load - Navigate using vol keys and select using power button.
I had a similar issue and this fixed it for me.

So did it last night but changed not much at all, at most it drains 2% less an hour..
I'm thinking if factory reset would fix it but I don't really wanna do that..

There is an excellent thread on battery life for note5 which you can use to get tips for edge plus too. Here is the link :
http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-note-5/567125-note-5-battery-life-thread.html
Samsung has provided lot of inbuilt apps like Smart Manager which is like Clean Master you get in Play store.
Open Smart Manager ---> Click on Storage --> click on Detail ---> click on Cache data --> click delete to clean cache.
Lot of people downloaded Greeify, shutupp, wave lock detector and doze which actually use battery. After I uninstalled them battery life increased by 45 minutes.

I agree. Most of the apps that promise to increase battery life degrade it further. In fact, this Paranoia of ours with battery life (keep checking every 10 minutes for battery drop) affects it further.
So, I would suggest uninstall all 3rd party apps. And do not track battery life every instant. And still if you think your battery isn't lasting long enough (check On Screen Time/ Active Time at end of day), contact Samsung.
Hello there!
I had the same problem initially. I wasn't sure which app was causing. So i did a factory reset and reconfigured everything. Now all well. So i guess the best thing would be to backup everything do a factory reset. Then carefully monitor the other app you are installing. There are few that draws lot of power for location services. Then disable that S voice wake up command thingy I am guessing it runs all the time which is not so great. Don't go for Greefiy or any apps like that. Those don't do great job unless you have a Xposed running
So I tried clearing the cache but did noting. I had GPS always on I thought maybe if I turn it off but the same changed nothing.. I don't have any "battery Monitoring" or greenify like app.. Sometimes it works fine but othertimes it drains like crazy doing nothing.. I will try factory reset, hope that will fix this..
Same was here

Hello mate. I faced the same battery drain problem. It wasn't going to deep sleep when screen was off. Last night 6-7 hours screen was off but the device wasted my %19 battery so result was missing the alarm and got late to work etc. Then I rooted and flashing the Arter97 kernel solved this(Now draining about %3). The device is now sleeping deeply like a deeply sleeping baby when screen is off lol.

Yeah flashing is ok. You can download any kernel app. I'm using Kernel Aduitor, Kcontrol, Trickster Mod Kernel Settings apps. Basically download the first one from Play Store.

So it's been a couple weeks now and I managed to get a little bit better battery life, drains 15-20% over night before it drained something like 60 70% but battery life is still poor some guys get 7 to 9h SOT I'm can be happy if I get 4 5h..
I'm running custom rom arter kernel tried everything but nothing really fixes completely my problem.. Start to think I have a faulty phone..
My phone has not been able to get into deep sleep. For the last few days that I've checked GSam, it's always been at 0s of deep sleep. Just checked right now and after 21 hours, my phone has gotten 10s of deep sleep. I've done a search and looked through many pages of posts on some of the various battery discussion threads but I haven't been able to find anything. Does anyone have a possible remedy for this or explanation of why it's happening? Is anyone else having trouble going into deep sleep?
Mines is the same, I assume it's because I charge my phone every night, which is really the only time my phone would sit still inactive long enough to actually enter doze.
I might of fixed my draining battery issue so maybe you guys can try it out too. My issue was my phone would not go to deep sleep and would stay awake even when the phones display was off so something was keeping it up. I tried all the different methods out there including the package disabler and doing the hard reset with the cache reset. I was browsing the developer options in the settings screen and looked at my running services. I noticed that my contacts and a. Program called com.qualcomm.location had a message next to them saying restarting while all the other programs just had a countdown of how long they were running. So I clicked on each and pressed stop and I also re-downloaded the package disabler and disabled the com.qualcomm.location. after all that I synced my contacts again and just did a simple reboot and after that my phone was able to deep sleep. Now my battery is not draining like it did. So in my case those 2 apps had an issue and kept trying to reset itself so the phone was never able to sleep. I would recommend looking at your running services in the developer options. go into the running services and see if anything is trying to restart itself over and over again
So I did finally achieve deep sleep. I tried a few things from the temporary battery fix thread and I wasn't able to pin point one thing which worked, THEN, I restarted my phone and it wouldn't go into deep sleep again. I tried wiping the cache and restarted and suddenly it's going into deep sleep again....
I'll keep an eye on it and will update if anything interesting happens.
I finally charged my phone prior to going to sleep and it finally did dose last night, the phone has to be stationary to enter deep sleep

Doze and deep sleep seem to be too different things. My phone will sometimes doze without going into deep sleep. What's really weird is that sometimes my phone will randomly stop going into deep sleep and a clearing of the system cache immediately fixes this. There have been at least two times I can confirm I *only* did a cache wipe and the issue was remedied.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and why clearing the cache helps?
Anyone figure this out? Also is everyone on stock? Im rooted and on superman rom, this is happening to me every day now after i charge it over night. I have to restart my phone to fix.

same for me on Galaxy s7 flat exynos sm-930f, no root, stock rom
very annoying
if you find a solution suitable for me (without root) please let me know
same here to me stock exynos s7 when plug off the charger in the morning have to restart the phone otherwise battery dies half day
I figured out that for my phone it defenitly is somehow connected to the fast-charging function.
When using the fast-charger the phone doesn't go into deepsleep anymore.
It happens as soon as the phone touches the fast-charger, it doesn't even need to fully charge for this to occur.
When charging with everything else, incl. Qi nothing happens, but as I said, after the fast-charger was connected - no deepsleep.
At least that's what I observed, no guarantee that this affects everybody.

It is the same issue that has been discussed for a while in "high android system battery drain" thread. Read up last few pages.

I'm experiencing a lot of wakelocks on 6.0.1
It's mostly happlens when I disable WiFi and and leave the phone over the night.
The problem is gone only after a restart, and will ocure again if I disable WiFi.
Anyone with similar problem and most importantly - solution ?
How can I find what cause this wakelocks?
(I'm not rooted)
if you are not rooted then how did you find that your device is suffering from wakelocks ?
use gsam battery app to monitor wakelocks.

On the battery page, when I click on graph it shows the detailed graph when the screen was on, when wifi was on, etc. When I noticed fast battery drain I can see that the "awake" graph is continious meaning that device stays awake all the time, even all apps was closed and wifi, and data was disabled.

Reset moto display (clear data and cache) and use the new battery optimization on all your apps. And for extra, use greenify which can also show you the apps that are running in the background and is able to aggressive doze your device.
Could also be an app that screams for an internet connection since it only happens when you disable WiFi.

boot into safe mode, leave the phone for a few hours and see if the wakelocks are still there. if not then it is caused by some apps.

Reading this thread it's not actually drians your battery, but it's a bug in the battery statistics showing your wifi was on. Read this thread for more info.

I understand that bad signal will drain more battery but when I'm at home with perfect signal and wifi I still get pretty bad drain. I disabled wifi and set data to 2G over night and I left with 4% drain after 8 hours. I have no issue with wakelock, no Facebook, don't use snapchat often, super light user. Overall, very disappointed with the A7. I just can not stand the standby time, and I have no idea how to fix it. When I'm in school with bad signal, the battery drain even faster .Come from Iphone 5s which is almost a 3 years old phone(still work like charm, and my moms using it) with literally no battery drain overnight, and it out performance the A7 in battery life by far(with outstanding standby time). Just kindly ask you guys, do you have this kind of issue or is it just me? And any suggestion on fixing this issue?

Did you disable the WiFi scanning? This is commonly a major factor in battery drain in Android phone.
Also, try to wipe the cache and dalvik

In my experience, the WiFi scanning should be disable to help battery drain. Go to location, click the three dot on the top right hand side corner, click scanning, then turn off the WiFi scanning and bluetooth scanning.
You have to boot to recovery to wipe cache and dalvik. Turn off the phone. After it's off, press the volume up and hold it while you press the power button. Once the phone vibrates and ZTE logo is showing, release the power button but hold the volume up. You will be presented with recovery option. Choose wipe cache and dalvik, then reboot. Be very careful with this, don't click the wrong choice. I am not responsible if your phone is bricked because you did something wrong here. If you are not familiar with it, DON'T do it.
For location, I don't disable it, but I put it under "battery saving" mode. When I use navigation, I will change it to high accuracy.
Try the first one and the third ones and see what happens after a few days. If you are still not satisfied, wipe the cache and dalvik (DON'T do this if you are not familiar with it)
My personal experience with this phone, I can have 5 to 7 hours SOT depending on what I do.

The main issue is the RF signal and standby time drain huge percent of battery. Disabling wifi scanning will reduce the drain but only on wifi portion. there is the link of my screenshot I took after disabling wifi scanning and location. Did not fix battery drain on idle issue.

If I look at the attachment, you use the phone for 13.5 hours since you charged it and you still have 78% of battery left. If that's the case, I don't see a problem with that.
The 41% of RF signal usage is out of your hardware battery usage (75%). So, in reality, it's 30% of usage which represents 6.6% of overall usage (30% x (100-78)%). It seems to me that you had the phone connected to wireless data during this time, not your WiFi? If so, that's normal.
I get 3% battery drain overnight at most.
Don't see any problem with that.

I get 3% battery drain overnight at most.
Don't see any problem with that.

That's pretty good. I'm not getting that. I average 5 hours. Will see what the latest 7.1.1 gives me.
I mostly just surf the net and check emails so I should be getting more.
Hi, guys have any of you been able to solve this issue? I'm currently using stock 8.0 and I have just replaced my battery for a new one and still RF signal and Standy are killing my battery (even using airplane mode).
I don't know what to do. I have tried going back to android 7.1.1. and 6.0 with no luck. I have tried several factory resets, I have wiped cache, I just don't know what else to do. My phone's battery is simply dying for no apparent reason.
I will post some Gsam screenshots before my battery dies.
I will post the screenshots later on today. But I can say now there is a major problem with the standby of the phone. So I fully charged the device this morning and battery has dropped by 15% in 4 hours simply from standby (I haven't used the phone).

My problems keep getting worse. Now I'm stuck in FTM mode and I can't get out. I have tried every single combination of buttons for way over 10 seconds with no luck.I guess I will have to wait until the baterry dies and hope for the best.
Something went finally the right way! After several attemps I have been able to reboot the phone via the "adb reboot" command while stuck in FTM mode.
Back to figuring out what to do to improve the phone's battery. While stuck in FTM mode the battery went from 80% to 60% (screen was on obviously in FTM mode) - 4 hours aprox.
