I used the WonderHowTo site incorrectly to flash a nexus 5 version of twrp unto my nexus 4.
My device at this point booted to a blank screen. It could still boot the boot loader at this point.
To "fix" this I found the correct version of twrp for my device and proceeded to flash that unto my device.
This has appeared to work since I can access twrp on my device but it is only thing I can access on the phone. When I attempt to boot to system through twrp I am sent back into twrp.
I have attempted to use the wugfresh root tool kit to unroot and return to stock using both soft bricked and phone is still working normally options with no success.
It can still boot to the boot loader currently.
I have logs from the toolkit if these can shed more light on my issue.
Is there anyway I can return my device to stock? Thanks for any response

Seems like you flashed TWRP to /boot. Easy fix is to download your ROM zip. Extract the boot.img and "fastboot flash boot boot.img". Then flash TWRP with "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img"
The locations and filenames of the files may vary. But hopefully you get the idea.

I flashed a boot image for mako_KTU84P and flashed recovery again with twrp but I'm still system booting into twrp.
My bootloader version is MAKOZ30f if that is any help
I probably flashed the incorrect boot image. Could you point me in the direction of reliable ROM zip's if that is the case.

Okay adb push a cyanogenmod zip from here and flash it in recovery. It should automatically install a working boot image. You should also flash the latest bootloader in the factory image with "fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img" if you're using an outdated bootloader.
used the advice
I pushed the zip file using cmd and it appears to have been successful since I was given the summary of data transferred and how long it took once the process was finished.
I can't find the zip file in twrp to attempt to flash it.. Is there any reason the file name would change inside the device once it has been pushed?
Is there a way to flash the zip in question without pushing it unto the device?
I am looking for a clear explanation of how to flash Android 6.0.1 with root and encryption disabled without wiping data. With all the explanations through the forum, all the "if's" and "but's" get confusing and can be clear as mud. Thanks for your help.
i'm on 6.0 with a stock kernel with encryption disabled and an unlocked bootloader as well.
As far as i can tell you need 2 things.. Flash the System.IMG manually and then we need to wait for someone to post a modified stock 6.0.1 kernel that has encryption disabled too. you can get away with just flashing system.IMG and stay on your older 6.0 de encrypted kernel but I have seen online that wonky things happen when you dont stay up to date on your kernel sometimes.

Where did you find or see this new 6.0.1 modified boot.img that has encryption disabled?
all you need is wugfresh tool kit and go into the Advanced settings and choose to flash individual files. and flash the boot.img to your device.
so flash the 6.0.1 system.img first and then flash the 6.0.1 modified boot.img 2nd.
remember that when you flash anything from fastboot, after the item is finished, the device reboots so you need to watch the device and have your fingers prepared to hold down power and volume down so the device goes back into fastboot and doesnt start booting again on its own.

It's been my understanding that Wug Fresh Tool Kit has been having some issues.
What about recovery, will it have to re-flashed? And what about root?

your recovery should remain as long as oy only flash the system.img and boot.img. you will need to reroot but I cant help you there unfortunately as I am not rooted myself since I need Androidpay to work.
i h avent had any issues with wugfrsh tool kit but if anything you dont have to use it. you can just go to the wugfresh tool kit folder and run the ADB and manually flash with the flash commands manually.

So you don't think I will need flash TWRP after flashing everthing.
I am hoping enough people chime in on how to do this so I can make a clear set of instructions.
I will let you know in a few min.
I just finished flashing 6.0.1 system.img, bootloader.img, cache.img, modified boot.img you posted and the device is at the android is upgrading screen.
if its successful, I will reboot into my recovery which had TWRP previously. if thats good i will let you know.

so I have one problem now.
when My device fully boots up it now says :
"there's an internal problem with your device"
the only reference I can find to this is in regards to the Nexus 9 and flashing the Vendor.IMG file but nothing for phone devices.
any one know anything about this?
I h ave a feeling its because i flashed the stock 6.0.1 bootloader.IMG over my modified bootloader.IMG and I have TWRP installed AND a modified boot.img...
if i could find a new modified bootloader.img for 6.0.1 that would be awesome.
BTW my TWRP is still installed and launches fine.

-boot into recovery

after you flash TWRP, if you reboot, the system will flash the stock recovery back if its not the original
after u flash TWRP, u need to boot into recovery, and then flash the expected SuperSU.zip
the supersu zip script will edit the system and disable the flashing of stock recovery
I've been trying to get help on this matter. I've followed every step to get this resolved other than a factory restore at this point.

I'm on Stock 6.01. I flashed everything from fastboot (boot.img, bootloader, cache.img, radio, recovery.img, system.img, twrp.img, and vendor.img) and afterwards I went directly into recovery (twrp) and flashed supersu 2.62.
Process:
fastboot flash bootloader C:\angler\images\bootloader-angler-angler-xx.xx.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash radio C:\angler\images\radio-angler-angler-xx.xx.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader

fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash cache C:\angler\images\cache.img
fastboot flash recovery C:\angler\images\recovery.img
fastboot flash system C:\angler\images\system.img
fastboot flash vendor C:\angler\images\vendor.img
Then did fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
Boot directly into recovery, flash supersu 2.62, reboot system (DO NOT INSTALL).
Everything works GREAT, then you reboot (power off) and lose root. have to boot into recovery and reflash supersu every single time.

then flash 2.61. See what happens.

For those who are seeing this issue, what was the disposition of your phone prior to this?
For me, I was on 6.0.0 using traditional root (2.52). I fastbooted to 6.0.1 and used 2.62, then 2.62-3 right on top.
I'm in the process of re-fastbooting boot.img, system.img and flashing 2.62-3 to see if it makes a difference.

I thought unroot.zip was used for those that were using traditional (2.52 and pre) root? AFAIK, the zip simply removes the pieces left by system root. If there was nothing written to /system in the first place, what benefit would unroot.zip provide? The OP did flash unroot.zip and it didn't help him.
In this post, the instructions explain that if you're coming from 2.60, you can simply flash newer versions right on top (since nothing was written to /system in the first place). If you're coming from system root, reflashing the image will wipe out all the root modifications and allowing one to go systemless.
I did reflash boot and system, then 2.62-3. Same problem--on the 3rd boot, root goes away.

The purpose of systemless root SuperSU is to patch the factory boot image. A modified boot image is used to allow for system root. This thread is discussing systemless root using SuperSU to patch the factory image. As the OP described, we are flashing the factory image. Don't know what you're asking.

I had a problem before flashing the modified for some reason. But never mind.
See my post here. I found the modified kernel to allow for system root. Until the lost of root issue is resolved, system root is a good alternative.
Just fastboot the modified boot, reboot into TWRP (using the phone keys, NOT fastboot reboot), flash SuperSU 2.52, and you should be good to go. Be sure to backup beforehand and wipe cache/dalvik for good measure.
So i was recording a video, when it entered a state where I had to reboot the phone. I did so, and it got stuck. I did a hard reset. The phone then gets stuck at bootloader unlocked. I entered fastboot, selected recovery, and it gets stuck at the twrp logo. Any ideas? I also re-flashed twrp and it still get stuck.
Can you boot TWRP with 'fastboot boot twrp.img' and do anything? (Replace 'twrp.img' with your TWRP image filename)
If not, try fastboot flashing back to stock, but it kind of sounds like your emmc (internal storage chip) might have take a dump. Very unusual, but not unheard of.

This is why one-click tools are bad... You need to flash the full stock image manually, and not downgrade, you must use the same or newer version of stock firmware than you device last had installed.

Only with twrp you can save your data.
What version did you used? Try with another, maybe don't flash - only boot.
"fastboot boot NameOfTwrp.img"
If it boot copy your data to pc.
Stock you can flash with fastboot, here is "how to", download and flash the highest version for you model:

Hi guys,
I'm just finalising restoring an A2017 (China) to stock for warranty exchange.
I have gone back to stock OS, locked bootloader but I still have the TWRP recovery.
I believe all I need to do is flash a stock recovery.img though TWRP and voila I should be finished, but I can't find a download link that definitely points me to what I should use.
Could someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!
EDIT - Actually wait a minute can I just install full A2017 factory OTA update through MiFavor stock OS which I believe contains recovery, does that mean that everything goes back to stock (including recovery)?

EDIT2 - When I try to install the A2017 B13 update.zip through MiFavor it says update failed. Should I install it through TWRP?
EDIT3 - Refused to update the whole image (update.zip) through MiFavor within the ZTE OS. I flashed the default recovery.img through fastboot, then I used the MiFavor recovery (not in OS) to manually flash the full image.
Anyway, got it to stock!
Where did you got the recovery.img?

In the link from my post above. Download the original stock ROM you want, unzip, one of the files is the recovery.img. FYI I had A2017 B11, installed B13 recovery.img and it worked fine.
I tried to flash recovery.img but it says: FAILED (remote: Partition flashing is not allowed)
What do I do? I'm on B13 stock with locked bootloader. I want to get rid of TWRP and back to stock recovery so I can get OTA updates again.

The first step in flashing anything is to unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP recovery, root, custom ROM etc. The inverse is the same. You are trying to flash an image to the recovery partition with a locked bootloader, which isn't going to work. I'd suspect you need to unlock your bootloader again, flash the stock recovery from the B13 stock image, and re-lock the bootloader. I am fairly new to the Axon 7 but I would consider yourself lucky if your bootloader is in fact locked. Typically locking the bootloader with anything but stock recovery is messy...

You usually end up with a DFU brick, sometimes only with fastboot. Very messy
There are flashable recovery zips for the A2017G, maybe @tron1 can make you one?
