Trying to flash TWRP but no ADB & Fastboot directory under Windows 10 program files/x86?!? Also should GApps go here? 32bit? What if SD card & internal storage is merged? End result is Lineage OS...
Could anyone link a good guide?

Which adb/fastboot utility did you install? If you install Minimal ADB 1.4.2, on my computer it's present under C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot. For 1.4.2: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=745425885120698566
If you're trying to flash TWRP (ensure you've got either TWRP 3.0.2 or a more recent version, 3.1.1 for example, and that it's for athene devices), you could follow this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67031805&postcount=3 Also, double check you've unlocked your bootloader before attempting any of this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67031801&postcount=2 Bear in mind unlocking your bootloader will wipe your device and void your warranty.
Once you've flashed TWRP, then reboot straight to recovery - this is to ensure TWRP is not overwritten by the stock recovery. Once you've booted to the recovery, then TWRP should stick and you may reboot as normal.
EDIT - instead of flashing TWRP, you may wish to boot to TWRP (and look at step 4 below):
Copy the TWRP image file to your adb folder.
Boot into the bootloader and connect your device to your computer.
Open your adb client and verify your device is communicating by executing 'fastboot devices' without the quotes. You should get a response with your device's serial number.
To boot in TWRP, execute in the adb terminal 'fastboot boot <name of TWRP image>' without the quotes. E.g if your TWRP is twrp-3.1.1-athene_shreps.img, then the command you'd use is 'fastboot boot twrp-3.1.1-athene_shreps.img' (without quotes).
Afterwards, you'll be able to flash LineageOS and GApps. The main instructions for flashing a custom ROM are usually listed in the first post of each custom ROM (here's the link for the official LineageOS: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/development/rom-cyanogenmod-14-1-t3522101)
If you have your SD card and internal storage merged, then unless you can save the encryption key from your stock, your SD card will be wiped/inaccessible. SD cards mounted as portable storage appear to operate okay under both custom and stock ROMs. Thus, back up your SD card to your computer. You may wish to re-format your SD card as portable storage (and from what I've read on the Lenovo Motorola forums, that might help your SD card last longer, as it's not being subjected to encryption as it would be with adoptable storage).
1)You'll be flashing the LineageOS and GApps (can use either OpenGApps or BeanGApps) zips using TWRP. You need 7.1 arm Gapps (32 bit).
2)Download LineageOS and GApps to your device. Do not unzip them.
3)Reboot to TWRP recovery. Tap the Backup option on the main menu.
4)Back up your device in TWRP (make a note this is your stock backup). If you want this backup to be OTA friendly for stock updates, then do not 'swipe to allow modifications'. Back up the stock ROM, verify you've got the backup then reboot to TWRP, and then 'swipe to allow modifications'.
5)Go back to the main menu, and tap the 'Wipe'.
6)Under 'Advanced Wipe', select Dalvik/ART cache, system, data and cache. Double check these are the only ones you have ticked.
6a)Swipe to wipe.
7)Go back to the TWRP main menu.
8)Tap Install and locate your LineageOS and GApps zips.
9)Flash LineageOS first and then GApps.
10)Reboot to LineageOS.
If your device screen goes to sleep whilst in TWRP, press on the volume keys to wake up your device.
If you wish to revert back to near stock, you can flash your TWRP backup of your stock ROM (though this will revert any messages to the point when your backup was taken, you may wish to use Titanium Backup or MyPhoneExplorer to backup). @echo92 if he would decide to flash back to a clean StockRom (by fastboot) in order to start with a complete unmodified System (stock boot, stock kernel & stock recovery) wouldn't it be better not to "flash" but just to "boot" once into TWRP and take a backup of the clean StockRom in order to save the stockrecovery too? So he could simply restore his clean stock if he wants to take a future OTA.
If he "flashes" TRWP permanently onto StockR he would backup Stock with modified recovery and might wonder, why he couldn't install an OTA.
Please correct me, if I'm wrong.

Oh definitely, that's an option, booting into TWRP and backing up the stock ROM. As I understand it, you have to back up your device without allowing TWRP to modify your system partition. If the backup is taken after that, I recently read that enabling that will cause an OTA to fail (since the type of OTA monitors if the system was ever mounted as read/write), even if the backup you took had no other changes.
It honestly depends on how much flashing the opening poster is planning on doing, if it's simply just LineageOS and OpenGApps, then might be worth booting into TWRP. However, to keep updated then you'd have to perform the updates when you've got a PC available (to be able to boot into TWRP), in which case the inconvenience of booting into TWRP with a PC might outweigh the downside of a custom recovery. For custom ROMs, we might have a similar issue ironically, where a user downloads an update for custom ROMs and cannot flash the update because they do not have TWRP on their device (albeit this issue is easier to fix). I concur that simply booting into TWRP may be more suitable for new users and those that do not realise the requirements/downsides of having a custom recovery. I'll add in the option of booting to TWRP in the previous post As the saying goes, with great power comes great responsibility.
Also, if the user flashes other files (e.g. a custom logo.bin to hide the bootloader warning), then the OTA would fail anyway, and custom logos aren't backed up by TWRP. For a logo.bin though, that can be easily replaced by a stock logo.bin (from the appropriate stock ROM) flashable in fastboot or in TWRP.

If the xda pros would establish a new status, like "Recognized Explainer", you were the first who 'd deserve it.

TWRP 3.1.1 on oxygenos2

Hi i was about to update my phone and setting it to factory in order to update it to Oxygenos last version since i still using oxygen2 (andoid 5) etc...
I was about to do a twrp backup however i do no thave enought space so i've read on internet that with twrp 3.1+ you can backup directly on pc. I've tryed to update twrp however its not working and not starting the recovery partition. I've read that : (3.0.2-1 and above for OxygenOS 3.x and above) (3.0.2-0 and below for OxygenOS 2.x and below) however i need the updated version to backup directly on pc what can i do? some advice? i've looked for a modified version of twrp 3.1 for oxygenos2 but i did not find it :S

Before you do this, update TWRP via these instructions

skip down to this line "Installing a custom recovery using fastboot" as you do not need to unlock the bootloader as it is already unlocked since you have TWRP already.
Do not make a TWRP backup, It will not be of any use once you move to OxygenOS 3.6.1 since the backup will be of Nouget (android 5). The best way to upgrade would be to follow the steps here http://downloads.oneplus.net/oneplus-2/oneplus_2_oxygenos_3.6.1/
Once you get to step 4, click the "View Instructions for TWRP Recovery" link then you can either dirty flash or clean flash the zip. I would recommend clean flashing, as in do the factory reset as mentioned in the second paragraph under step 4. However, do not directly flash the rom afterward, use the reboot option in TWRP to reboot into recovery then flash the zip.
NOTE: If you want to use Magisk to pass SafetyNet and have root, download the Magisk zip and flash after flashing the rom, or queue it to it flashes right after the OOS rom.
afterward let the phone boot up then do the setup. Once you have completed setup, enable developer settings and enable advanced reboot. use reboot into recovery to boot into TWRP
Now go ahead and make a TWRP Backup, This backup will be your Go-To backup if you want to go back to factory OOS 3.6.1 with the setup completed and Magisk already installed.

Not able to backup
The problem is that the last version of TWRP working on oxygenos2 is 3.0.2-1 and you can not make the backup directly on computer, i've traied toupdate twrp and it does not lounch however with that version of twrp (3.0.2) or before it works that was the point if there was any modified twrp for oxygenos2 and with twrp version 3.1 or higher.

TWRP v3.x.x doesn't work with oxygen 2.
There's no way to boot TWRP v3 without installing oxygen 3.
If you need to backup your files (pictures, videos, WhatsApp messages etc.) you don't need TWRP because it backups only your system and your apps.
So simply attach your phone to your PC and copy all your files.
If you need a copy of your system then you need to free some space on your phone and do a backup with TWRP v2

Back from Beta (offical beta1) to stable (HELP)

Hi want go back from Beta to stable but currently its not poosible.
I tried to flash the stable zip file in stock recovery but this wont work, installation aborted after 1-2 seconds with no success. Also sideloading aborted after 47%.
Can anybody help me, are there factory images for flashing to stable stock?

flash twrp recovery (via fastboot) and install stable zip through twrp recovery.

I presume you've backed up your files from storage because moving between major releases requires a full wipe;
Do a "Fastboot -w" to completely wipe the userdata folder
Install TWRP with "fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img" (or whichever filename it has)
Reboot the phone into TWRP while connected to your computer
The phone should appear as a drive on the computer, if not go into TWRP and mount folder and make sure data is ticked
Copy over the 4.5.14 release
Try installing that with TWRP which should, in the process, replace the recovery with the official one
See how you get on

You have got to use the specific roll-back image. You can find it at the ob1 announcement forum post

[How-To] Restore OOS from Oreo 8.1 | Restore factory encryption | Re-lock bootloader

You need to do this if you've flashed an Oreo 8.1 ROM and find that you can't get back to OOS because...
The ROM can't read /data so it hangs on the boot animation or reboots to recovery, even on a clean flash.
TWRP won't recognize your PIN/password or "default_password".
You've tried re-formatting /data from TWRP several times and it doesn't solve your problem.
Here is how to get back to 100% stock and/or restore factory encryption, which is different than Oreo 8.1 encryption:
1. Back up /sdcard to your PC as it will be erased with all of your files, pictures, music, etc.
2. Flash the stock recovery from bootloader.

fastboot flash recovery [I]stock_recovery.img[/I]
Latest OOS official stock recovery
Latest OOS beta stock recovery
3. Restore system setting in recovery.
This step is necessary to restore factory formatting and encryption of /data.
If a password/PIN is set, click “I forgot my password.”
Boot into stock recovery. Once there, go to Wipe data and cache > Reset system setting and Erase everything(Music, pics, etc.).
Note: If you don't do the "Erase everything..." option, factory encryption will not be reset.
4. Boot TWRP from bootloader.
You could flash TWRP and reboot to recovery, but TWRP will get overwritten with the stock recovery when OOS boots anyway. It's faster just to boot TWRP from a command prompt. Use the command:

I recommend using using:
[RECOVERY][dumpling] TWRP 3.2.1-0 for Oreo (8.0 and 8.1) by codeworkx
5. While in TWRP, move “OOS...ROM.zip” to the SD card.
In Windows File Explorer, copy OOS...ROM.zip to the device.
Alternately, you may use the following ADB command from a command prompt

Since OOS is a very large file (1.6GB), this will take 5-10 minutes.
Latest OOS signed flashable zip
Latest OOS beta (Oreo) flashable zip
6. Flash OOS...ROM.zip from TWRP.
7. Reboot system.
Your device will be formatted, encrypted and loaded with the stock recovery and ROM as it came from the factory. You may need to find the OOS...ROM.zip you pushed to /sdcard and delete it from emulated storage (/storage/emulated) if you don't see it at /sdcard after booting the ROM.
8. Optional: To re-lock your your bootloader, follow these additional steps:
This can only be done from a factory-supplied OOS ROM (including Oreo) with no modifications or the phone will not boot!
Enable USB debugging under Developer options.
Reboot to bootloader.
Unlock the bootloader with the following command:

It gave me an error 1 in TWRP. I had to do the following:
1) Make sure the bootloader remains unlocked
2) Back your apps up in TitaniumBackup
3) Back your /sdcard partition up on your computer so you don't lose anything
4) Reflash stock recovery in the bootloader
5) Boot into stock recovery and hit "forgot password" when it asks for your lock code
6) Boot back into bootloader and reflash TWRP
7) Place stock OOS zip onto the /sdcard partition
8) While you're in TWRP, flash stock recovery through its image flasher then reboot into recovery
9) Flash stock OOS, reboot, and then mod however you want

Please do not quote the whole OP just to get someone's attention. A mention (@the Doctor) would suffice.
To answer your question, flash the stock recovery with the fastboot command:

The only ADB command involved is "push" to get the ROM onto the sdcard in step 5.

You can, but TWRP will not recognize your PIN or password while in OOS, so you'll have to set lockscreen security to none or swipe. Or you could do the procedure in the OP, then restore only data from your nandroid. You'll have to re-flash Magisk or any other mods after that.

I don't use a pin for backups or restores. Since I seem to have to format internal storage to get a custom ROM to boot, was just wondering if restore of oos nandroid works once on DU.

How can I get my wifi back after reverting to 4.7.6? Ive tried EFS backup and everything possible but the only way to get wifi back is to flash an Oreo zip.

Have you flashed OOS Oreo Beta? My theory is that the firmware won't downgrade back to OOS 4.7.6, but I'm not sure. I've only restored back to OOS OB1/2, and wifi has worked perfectly every time.

Flashing Oreo beta is the only way to get it back as myself and others have found in the thread that was started on the subject. I hadn't seen that initially when I posted in here.
I was hopeful that following your method to a T would get me my wifi back on 4.7.6 but it wasn't meant to be. Absolutely nothing I have tried in the last 24 hours has worked to get it working on 4.7.6 including multiple clean and dirty flashes of the full 4.7.6 zip, twrp, stock recovery, restoring multiple backups, restoring EFS, factory reset, wipes, etc.
You might want to add that to the OP that if you revert to 4.7.6 that wifi will not work.

Any newer or best TWRP for X727?

It's been a year already since I checked this sub and I am still using the TWRP that flickers and is chinese. Is there like an upgraded version for our device? Specifically for the non elite variant US version?
I think I might have screwed my phone because after I flashed a new rom(RR) my internal storage won't mount on recovery and when I connect it to pc. But I can see it in my phone when I'm on system(thank god) This is weird because I have not put any security lock on my phone before backing it up. So I am assuming that I need to update my TWRP to something latest to solve this issue, but I haven't been keeping up to this sub, i don't know if there's a newer compatible of TWRP.
And I also forgot why I did not went with the official one from TWRP. Maybe because it messes up the bootloader? or something like that, forgot since it's been a year already and I remember reading into a guide to use the chinese twrp.

If this happens to your device and you happen to use the chinese screen flicker fest TWRP, just go on and flash the latest official TWRP for our device. And you're going to be able to see your internal storage again.

The Chinese bootloader issue is no longer an issue
* So to be clear about you issue you cannot boot to recovery.
* You do see you phone when you connect it to the computer...Right?
* BTW, I also have an X727
Your issue is most likely due to corruption and encryption
Backup whatever data you can and then use the All in One ( "AIT " ) tool to remove encryption ( NOTE: this is going to erase your data.
Next Using AIT install Twrp and magisk 17.1 or the easier way to resolve this may be to temporarily go back to stock.
Option 1
Try flashing the latest Twrp and magisk 17.1, using either ADB or AIT
After flashing boot into TWRP recovery
1. Go to "Wipe" and then to "Advanced Wipe".
2. Mark "Dalvik / ART Cache", "System", "Data" and "Cache".
3. "Swipe to Wipe" and proceed back the main menu.
4. Go to "Install".
5. Select the ROM zip file and then press "Add more Zips" and select the Gapps zip file, and then the Magisk file.
6. "Swipe to confirm Flash" and wait for some time.
7. After the flashing is finished, just reboot to recovery, check boxes to keep Twrp installed
8. Boot to system go through setup.
Option 2
You could flash my Recovery which includes Twrp and Root. ( Instructions at Link Below)
Afterwards you will be able to update the Twrp, and Root, then Flash whatever you want.

Use All in One tool to restore my recovery, Flash a Stock Rom , or simply Flash TWRP/ROOT and then your Rom> Gapps> Magisk once again > Reboot to Recovery ( Check Boxes, for Twrp manager installation) Reboot to recovery > do not choose to make you drive read only! Clear Cache ( Not Dalvik) Reboot to system > Finished.

Its an excellent tool for keeping your drivers and adb up to date. Plus it will give ADB system wide privileges.

Make sure to check for the AIT program for updates, to the tool itself and to ADB.

* Remove Encryption
* Install TWRP,
* Install your Rom, Gapps and Magisk etc.
* The tool will also update your existing installation of ADB, Android Drivers, and provide system wide ADB privileges.
Of course use ADB or AIT once the phone is restored but you would be better off buying an OTG adapter and a USB 3.0 USB Flash drive. This way you can quickly make changes on the fly. I recommend buying at least 32GB usb 3.0 drive. Absolutely, the OTG adapter is the best method, because you will have all of your files available for quick installation and you can make numerous nandroid backups of your favorite rom installations. So If you get bored with one Rom, you can quickly restore another Rom in 5 to 10 minutes.
Again , if you do not use an OTG drive. Just use ADB or AIT for flashing your files, the steps are same as with any other phone.
Finally, look past any typos, I don't have time to proofread after spending so much time on a single post.

my issue was, I can go to recovery but it is not mounting my internal storage. It was showing as 0mb. I am aware that this is usually happens when you encrypt your device and back it up in the recovery and try to restore. But I never put any encryption on my device let alone it doesn't even ask me for a password when I am on the recovery. Anyway, I solved it by just flashing the latest official TWRP on our device. And I'm glad that I am finally away from the buggy chinese twrp.
I was just worried if there was any dangers on flashing the official latest twrp because I am seeing a lot of people getting bricked. So much for the halfassed allowing us to unlock our bootloader in this device by leeco.
Anyway, I really appreciate all that detailed guide. I will keep them in reference in the future.

If you have an encryption issue again, and you have latest tarp and magisk.
Just format storage and reboot to recovery, then wipe and issue will be resolved.

I want to run 64 bit on my J7 Pro

I have a J7 Pro (J730G/DS) and I was wondering if its possible to install ANY rom that is 64bit as my CPU does indeed support 64bit but my OS is only 32.
I want to use this smartphone as an emulation device but most modern emulators such as Citra and Dolphin require 64bit Android
if its possible, can anyone link a guide on how to change my rom to a 64bit one?

I recommend installing a custom Treble rom, as they are all arm64.
For that I recommend first to create a Vendor partition(with recovery) using the file Exynos7870_CreateVendor_2.0.zip(download from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j7-2017/development/treble-project-treblue-j710x-t4098875)
Then recommend you to install this ROM: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j7-2017/development/unofficial-crdroid-6-7-t4119505
And you will have a 64 bit OS.

In order to install a custom ROM, the general steps are to: Unlock bootloader, Install custom recovery, make a backup of your current stock ROM, and then go to install a custom ROM.

1. Turn your phone in to Download mode. For that, first power off your phone, and then hold POWER button together with volume DOWN and HOME button, then connect the phone with USB cable on the computer.
2. Open Odin tool
3. In the options tab, uncheck auto reboot
4. Select the custom recovery image in to AP field(the exact file name of recovery from link is TWRP-3.3.0-j7y17lte-20190417.tar
5. Start flashing.
6. Now, hold POWER, volume DOWN, volume UP and HOME button together until your screen on the phone goes back, then instantly hold POWER, Volume UP and HOME button together, so you boot in to the installed recovery.
7. You should see the installed recovery working.
Set up internal storage so the recovery works properly
Warning: This operation WILL DELETE EVERYTHING ON YOUR INTERNAL STORAGE. COPY YOUR FILES ELSEWHERE.
Use your installed recovery to wipe the internal storage, so it becomes available for usage.
Select the option Wipe, then Format data, and then confirm the operation.
No you should be able to use your recovery for other operations.
Make a backup of your current stock ROM
Use your installed recovery to make a backup of your current stock ROM.
Select the option Backup, and then select all partitions, then confirm the backup operation.
After this, don't forget to copy the backup in your computer. For that, you can plug your phone to PC while you are in recovery, and then you can just copy the backup. The backup is stored in the folder named TWRP.

Thank you very much but I have a problem, when I try to install CreateVendor or crDroid I get an error in TWRP "failed to mount /preload (invalid argument)
any fix for that?

This is not an error that will break your phone. TWRP will install the ROM successfuly, so don't worry about the error. Since there is a Vendor partition, it is natural that the phone won't have a preload partition, so TWRP won't be able to mount it.
Now how is the ROM working?

it works well! thank you! I tried installing GApps (ARM64, android 10, stock) and that just puts the phone into a bootloop, so I re-installed the rom. maybe you know what it happens?

I don't use GAPPS, so i don't know what would be the problem.
I suggest you install pico package instead of the stock package.
If still not working, then I suggest you install bitgapps.

Hello sir, im just newbie about updating phone like this so i just follow your step above and now my phone going to CRDROID after SAMSUNG screen, is this ok or wrong ?? i still be able to use my phone but the problem is my sim card is not detected, and also i miss the part of revert stock rom, and when i try to revert stock rom my phone say there is no OS inside. Maybe you know what should i do sir ? at least my simcard detected and i have signal to do whatsapp and other else, thank you sir

Hi, I tried it on my J7 Pro (j730g/ds), but it stuck on cdroid logo. What I do
1. Install TWRP and format /data
2. Install Exynos7870_CreateVendor_2.0.zip and reboot to recovery
3. And Install crDroid 6.9 (without gapps)
4. Reboot
But phone it bootloop on cdroid logo.
Any help is Appreciate

Do not flash cdroid, flash a treble rom instead. It should have a extension of .img instead of .zip
After flashing Exynos7870_CreateVendor_2.0.zip，flash skyhawk recovery project.

Hello. Sorry for the long reply ahead. I have the same problem of wanting to use 64 bit apps in my J7 pro (SM-J30G/DS). It's my first time doing a custom rom as well and I followed all the instructions detailed here, but things did not go well for me.
The only step I missed is copying the backup to my laptop because for some reason my device is not letting it be copied. Nevertheless, I proceeded to install the custom rom since I was hoping to use the stock rom in sammobile.com instead as backup.
However, I keep getting both the error 7 and "failed to mount /preload (invalid argument)" when installing crdroid. I tried numerous ways to fix it but nothing happens. The following are what I have already tried:
- Install older versions of crdroid (all versions causes error 7)
- Remove assert in "updater-script" (tried it in 6.9 and 6.7 versions but still get error 7)
- Install latest versions of twrp (I cannot find the latest version of twrp for j7y17lte aside from what's here, so I went to other sites that offer twrp for J7 pro (2017). I found j7xelte and herolte but they don't work, so I used given twrp here again)
I can't fix the error and the install was always unsuccessful, so I decided to use another custom rom which is HavocOS. I followed the instructions but I still get the error 7 when installing project treblue. I tried removing assert again but the error is still there. I researched more but I can't find any more solutions to this problem or what's causing it.
One thing to note is that the create vendor zip was installed successfully (but with failed to mount/preload) and only the custom roms receive error 7. My research about error 7 said that it happens when the device is incompatible with the roms to be installed, but I'm pretty sure that my device is J730G/DS which should work fine since it worked with others here that have the same device. If my device was incompatible, then why does the twrp and create vendor work fine? Is it because my phone was not rooted? I saw that a lot of custom roms require root before installing, but it was not mentioned in the instructions so I did not root my phone.
Another problem is that I can't revert to my stock rom anymore. I found my stock rom in sammobile and proceeded to flash it using odin, but then my phone is stuck in samsung logo after rebooting. I tried leaving it for 8 hours to see if it will load but nothing happened. I can still access the recovery so I reinstalled twrp and would try to reinstall my stock rom.

EDIT: After reinstalling twrp, I tried flashing the create vendor and crdroid again and for some reason, the installation was now successful. But after rebooting to system, it was stuck in the crdroid logo. I then went to twrp again, formatted the data, then installed HavocOS and to my surprise, it was successful! There are no problems with boot and I am currently able to use the rom smoothly.
Problem is fixed since I am able to use 64 bit apps, but if you guys know what happened and what steps I did wrong, please tell me! I am still confused with what the problem is and I don't want to experience the same problem when I update my rom. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you very much!
