Hi All,
[ This OP has been edited based on receiving clarification from forum members...]
I just received a System Update on my rooted Nexus. The System Update says that it is part 1 of 2. I quote from my phone:
Android Update (Part 1 of 2)
Downloaded and verified 380kb
-----------------------------------
This is the first of a two-part System Update
This first part is required to prepare your device
to receive new Android system software.
Your device will restart, and your settings and
data will be preserved.
Soon thereafter, you will receive a second
update containing the new Android system
software itself.
I isolated the following files from /cache and verified their checksums every step of attaching them here:
d6096cac5e9f.signed-hboot-0.35.0017.zip (380.60KB)
(MD5 b0669d79f3ace07fdd3e1c03d88d2c68)
downloadfile.apk (1.76MB)
(MD5 1dbbb71e77a70494549e8ea9be5b631e)
downloadfile-1.apk (1.76MB)

That would be FRG83D
And off to the races!

false alarm
As millions of people spam *#*#CHECKIN#*#* and overload the OTA servers....
I am amazed at how small they were able to make it......just over 2mb.
I call False Alarm.
What the hell, 1.76mb??? That's no Gingerbread, more like Bread Crumbs. Left over crumbs called FRG83D.

Ummm, I thought I mentioned I was using a Nexus One. I doubt Motorola is pushing me an update. Good head's up, though!
BTW, my build is listed as FRF91 so am assuming that nothing in the FRF83 series would register as an update. Am I wrong here?

FRG is later than FRF, dude. G comes after F in the alphabet right?

Yes, you are wrong. FRG83* is newer than FRF91.
Nothing to see here, people. Move along.

I also thought I showed that this was part 1 of a 2-part update (and the update msg was pretty clear about this). I'm not saying that I'm running GB on my phone nor am I planning on applying either Part 1 of this update or what might be a much larger Part 2 containing the actual GB update.
I'm just trying to help my posting these files but I really think many of you need to take a few more minutes to read before posting. I'm not trying to say I'm cool or anything...I'm just trying to help here!

Well it looks like 5.0.1 has started to roll out to the Moto G 1st and 2nd generation. I hope it fixes the freezing problem I have on my xt1064 running 5.0
Post here if you receive and/or install 5.0.1, and let us know how it works out for you. Such as improvements, bugs, problems with installation, etc. Please include what model you have.

Indian soak test user received it yesterday
I think we can all safely assume that now, 5 weeks after starting, the "soak test" is now long over and done with. After all, Motorola stated that Lollipop would be out on the Moto G *before* the end of 2014... and guess what? Only 12 days of that left. Unless they're into cutting it fine, this IS the final release, folks.

To be frank, Motorola likely shifted from 5.0 to 5.0.1 midway the soak test. And 5.0.2 is pretty near as well, who knows if they won't shift development for it before this rollout ends.

What does that matter, when it's all Lollipop, after all? Would you prefer they release 5.0 and not a more updated, polished release version instead? They'll release on time, believe me.
Yep just got it, lets see what it shall bring!

It would also be nice if people would also make note of the baseband version associated with each release. There already been enough tears from fools flashing baseband firmware willy-nilly.
Okay, I had upgraded to 22.21.16 via TWRP using KennyWuLee's packaged tool. This morning I received a notice that I had an update available for 22.21.25 which I assume is 5.0.1. So like a dummy I went ahead and accepted. Now all it does is boot into TWRP. When I restart to system from TWRP it boots up just fine then after about 15 seconds reboots to TWRP.
I assume it is looking for the stock recovery which will then allow me to install the update? So will I be safe to go ahead and reflash the stock recovery, reboot and go from there? Or should I go all the way back to stock everything?
I have an XT1063.

To which question?
Are European buyers still being ignored? XT1068: no MFN, no update of any kind here. If I am interpreting Motorola forum correctly, they haven't released anything in the EU, not even a soak test.

I think Motorola secretly hate us because we can unlock our devices and still make a warranty claim if the hardware fails.

You could be right.
I got this phone happy in the knowledge I'll always be running (nearly) the latest clean version of Android, instead I have a phone with a memory management issue running at least a month behind other continents.
Tongue in cheek aside, I do have some suspicions.
It stands to reason that the people most likely to join the MFN are those who like to tinker and who are eager to receive updates. These people are also the most like to unlock the bootloader. If something goes awry during an OTA roll-out test and the user cannot resolve the issue, support from Motorola can be requested, potentially resulting in a warranty claim, unless the device has been unlocked and was purchased outside of the EU... It therefore seems logical that Motorola would not do soak tests in the EU, where possible: It reduces the blowback in the unlikely event that there is a serious bug in the update.

That sounds like the most plausible reason they may have, if they have one. To be honest, I've got better things to think about than when a frivolous software update arrives for a non-cricital device, but your thoughts certainly are rational ones
Well I was part of the xt1069 Brazilian soak test and I have to say it's a bad joke. A lot of users didn't get the update, there was almost no support or even feedback from Motorola in the forum. And to finish it off, they had an issue with their forum software that got all comments deleted. I don't think EU users are missing much
Hey fellas,
My note 4 finally died on me so I decided to get the s7 edge and stay with the android fellers. I did have some questions though-
I got notified yesterday of a 164mb update. I'm trying to ignore it because I think whenever root is obtained it should be for older firmwares right? I'm on G935TUVU2APC8 and I don't want to upgrade and get shafted.
My second question is where are the update files stored and is it possible to delete them or disable the update so I can get rid of this annoying screen that pops up every now and again?
And I know I shouldn't ask but does anybody have a progress report for root on this phone? For previous phones I saw a donation page for root, this one I have yet to see it...

Mayor news, Nougat Preview is open now, check this thread for more information.

Go there and register and have some Nougat fun.
EDIT : this is an important information mentioned in the main thread back in Z-Community, so KEEP THAT IN MIND or ask question before proceeding and i mean don't ask them here
Important disclaimer: There is a likelihood that personal data on your device may be lost during the software upgrade process, so a complete backup is highly recommended prior to this upgrade. Furthermore, the ability to roll back from Nougat to Marshmallow will not be supported.

So that means that anyone who signs up isn't gonna be able to tell us if MiFavor is gone or not with Nougat? That's all I want to hear.
I also want to know if the t-mobile wifi calling and other memory/power management optimization situation has improved. Hopefully the NDA allows that (likely not, lol)
Who knows what the NDA will and will not allow - all you are doing right now is signing up to be a part of the experiment. Not everyone who signs up will be accepted (I hope I am accepted)
Signed up. We will see what happens.
I applied but probably won't get update. I am already rooted with unlocked bootloader.
i think we need a stock rom tool via fastboot or qfil. actually zte said that they would give but there is no news about it.
so i have to wait. i think @DrakenFX or @Unjustified Dev will make it which can be flash via TWRP
Signed up, we'll see.
It won't void warranty for anyone asking.
I signed up. I love beta testing new OS's.

After you apply, they will pick who they accept. After you get accepted, then you get the NDA to sign or not sign. If you choose to sign it, then your IMEI gets added to the list and they push out all the extra updates. You can basically refuse at any point up to when you get updates (since apparently you can't go back to Mashmallow).

Apparently the previous OTAs haven't checked for unlocked bootloader, so unless they changed that for this OTA, you should be able to get it.

1- boot to TWRP
2- Tap Mount
3- Check SYSTEM-READ-ONLY
4- Wipe Dalvik, Cache, Data and System
5- Flash my B29.StockSystem
6- Reboot (there's probably going to be a message about NO OS , just ignore and slide to reboot.
Once full boot, reboot back to Recovery to check if stock recovery is in place and reboot if it is..
Signed up.
However I have a question. I own A2017U model but if i reside outside of U.S. does it disqualify me to participate?
hoping it doesn't break root. it's the update that ends in F. crazy that we're just now getting it while apparently Tmobile is on J already. crazy.
I delayed the update until it can be determine whether this update will affect ROOT.

Don't think TWRP can install the file "dlpkgfile".
Any ideas?
I'm also waiting to see if it will remove root or not. Hopefully someone can test it.
I reinstalled the LG default recovery in "img" form, and attempted to run the update. Rebooting, it went into LG update mode, 1/2 (I assume 1 of 2), and stopped with an error that I wasn't quick enough to write down.
The device rebooted, and came up with warning "This device is suspected in rooting". No LG updates will install" or similar.
I used FlashFire and restored my TWRP recovery partition, and am now going to wait until someone more versed in update manipulation changes the update file "dlpkgfile" into something TWRP can work with.
I tried.
WTF! the update disabled HD calling for me on Verizon and now I don't even have simultaneous talk and data! WTF!

Dont do it
NEVER EVER take OTA's if your rooted, you will most likely unroot your phone. A custom ROM if it has a good developer behind it will stay updated by said Dev, your asking for trouble by loading OTA's while your rooted.
You've been warned
lmao cmon man.. look at my post count, look at my years on xda.. you think I'm some kinda android noob? hahah. anyway, point is, taking the F update didn't mess with getting root on us996 so I took it to see if it did any good.. but i guess lg's speaker "fix" was to lower the volume in general.
