Memory losing permission daily - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

hi all,
Have just installed an update to xXx No Limits Rom, have posted there but got nothing, but i'm also guessing that this is a more widespread problem or something i've not spotted myself.
Essentially what happens is the devices applications lose the ability to read from or write to the internal memory.
EG:
You receive a pic on whatsapp but it'll fail to download.
You grab an image from chrome but chrome believes there is no SD card present.
Gallery fails to show any pics at all.
Running this command in a terminal then rebooting will get it back up and running
su
restorecon -FR /data/media/0
However after a day it will revert, my guess is that the android system is taking back control but not allowing permission for the phones applications.
I'm on 7.1.1 No limits v2.2 Encrypted
TWRP version: 3.1.1-0
Any ideas?
PS: just spotted that i didn't install the verified boot signer, not sure if this matters after a few rom installs or not?

there's an SD card permission fix floating around somewhere, I can't find it.. Im having the same issue

I have to be honest mate, i dont' actually know what i did.
I re-installed the rom, updated TWRP, my device is encrytped now, not sure if it was decrypted before or not.
Beyond that i havent' done anything mate? There is an SD fix in the no limits rom thread which could help but i've not had to flash it.
Sorry mate.

Noob mistake. desperate for help

Ok, so I installed Droidsail to try and move my large games to SD card on my S4 to free up some space.
It didnt work, so I uninstalled it. before I uninstalled it I had changed a setting to 'install new apps on SD card'
Now I'm getting an error: Insufficient Storage Available whenever I try to update or install an app.
This includes trying to re-install Droidsail to fix the setting.
I also tried to install Rom Toolbox, and I successfully installed that!
But superuser is out of date so I cant use it to change the setting
Cant update superuser... see error above.
So does anyone know a way to install an app completely manually? Not involving clicking 'install' at all? or another fix?
Can you flash to stock?

yea, tried that. I got pages of info on blackberrys. the 2 pages I found about android suggested I just download the apk folder and xfer it to my SD card. Then use a file manager to install. But again I get the same error.
Ok i was looking into flashing stock rom... but I am having trouble finding it. Anyone able to help with that?

Go to the development section and use the search function to find the stock factory ROM and directions to install it. I also suggest you take a lot more time to learn about Android (and the S4 in general) before you do anything else. Good luck.

I could be an idiot, but it appears that there is no stock rom yet for AT&T s4?

i believe you need to open up a file manager, and delete the odex file of the file you are looking for in root/data/app

8 minutes between my suggestion of going to the development section and searching you replying you couldn't find it isn't a very good attempt.
However, you need to restore your phone to the original factory firmware that is supplied by Samsung for the AT&T S4 (i337). There most definitely is a complete thread about this in the Development section. Take a little time and you might find it. I'm not trying to be mean, but if you are not willing to take a little time to look for information and learn about your phone you are only going to screw it up worse.
I doubt you are an idiot (as you stated you might be), I just think you need to learn a little about how these phones work before you end up with a really expensive brick. Good luck.
Try Kies (just as bad an app as iTunes lol)

[Q] Out of Space??? [SOLVED]

I'm about to destroy my phone and go back to iPhone 5 because that didn't constantly make me want to destroy everything around me.
I wanted to side-load an app. I just unlocked my bootloader and rooted it and was re-installing my apps.
When I go to install an app it says that there is no more space. the file is 4.85mb and I have 12GB of storage left.
I tried:
-Re-booting
-Installing other apps (which works)
-Clearing the cache
-Downloading Trail from PlayStore (I get the same result)
NEW:
-When plugged in via USB to my PC, device doesn't show up under "Computer" [Running Windows 7 x64)
What I did:
I backed up my phone and wiped the whole thing because I was running out of time last night
Thankfully Foxnov1990 and ImbaWind's tips worked. I restored the original backup and it solved my problem. Thanks so much! Love ya guys! :victory:
AFAIK my friend and I don't have this problem with our N4 and my friends don't have this problem with their GNEX.

I get the attitute, but you might wanna at least try to be friendlier as we're just here to help.
But On-Topic: have you tried this?
File explorer (app)
Go to /data/app (in System (root))
Del this line
com.maxmpz.audioplayer-1.odex
I've had it before that on stock ROM (aka unlocked bootloader and rooted) which means that it's not DEodexed that some Odex files were left behind. Which means that whatever you try, as long as that file is there, you won't be able to install the app. (shouldn't happen but it's possible in rare occasions)
Hope it helped.
If it didn't help and the Odex file is not there, see if you have Lucky Patcher installed, deinstall it (it sometimes holds on to odex files), and try installing PowerAmp now. Then reinstall Lucky Patcher

Honestly, I have installed and deinstalled the app more than you can possibly imagine... and I've nearly never had issues with reinstalling.
And when I did get issues it was Lucky Patching (having patched the app) that was holding on to the odex and I couldn't delete it till Lucky patcher was deinstalled.
So not sure what **** you mean but there was always an easy solution for me

Oh yep, always happen when I use lucky patcher to removed the app's ads !
I've run into a similar issue before.
I've had similar issues when I've removed an .apk using adb or root explorer without removing its associated .odex file.
Use root explorer and try to find an .odex file that has the same name as the package that you are having trouble installing.
There are some cache cleaning utilities in the Play store that might assist you as well.

Good luck. Also, try to approach asking for help in a more mature manner in the future. You are not entitled to hack a device then complain when something unexpected happens.

Android Pay Working with Root

Here's how I have Android Pay working on my rooted 5x:
-Starting from stock 6.01 (Some other ROMs are reported working. Most importantly it needs to be a ROM where Android Pay was working prior to systemless root)
-Flashed systemless SuperSU 2.67 from TWRP (See UPDATE 3 below to make sure you have a systemless install)
-run "adb shell"
-from adb shell run "su"
-from adb shell run "chmod 751 /su/bin"
Have fun!
With this change the checks in SafetyNet Helper are passing and I can add cards and make purchases with Android Pay. The change is surviving reboots and doesn't require messing with any settings in the SuperSU app to enable/disable root.
UPDATE 1: As others have pointed out this permissions change can also be done with a file manager like Root Explorer that lets you change permissions. Probably easier for most than ADB commands.
UPDATE 2: Some people haven't been able to get Android Pay working with just this permission change. Check if you have /su/xbin_bind - deleting this may get it working. Thanks to @bobby janow and @CSX321 for pointing this out.
UPDATE 3: To clarify on the systemless SuperSU installation (this seems to be a trouble point for some) - there are settings that need to be configured for the SuperSU install to make it systemless and to not create the system/xbin binding. The installer reads these options from a file on /data/. Since you don't have root yet you need write these settings over ADB in TWRP. If you don't see the /su/ directory, you probably don't have a systemless install. In that case you can go back to stock (restore system, boot, and vendor partitions). Then, when you reinstall SuperSU, these are the commands you need to send from your TWRP ADB shell:
Code:
echo SYSTEMLESS=true>>/data/.supersu
echo BINDSYSTEMXBIN=false>>/data/.supersu
Once you've got SuperSU installed, change the permissions of /su/bin/ (either chmod or using a file explorer)
You can check Android pay by simply trying to add a card and you'll know right away.

Yep Android Pay worked for a purchase. Just chmod your /su/bin/ directory to 751. Works for me on stock with systemless root and I imagine it may work on other ROMs that used to work until the recent change in the SafetyNet checks.
Running Chroma with SU 2.66. After running those commands AP will let me at least add a card, which I couldn't do before those commands (get can't verify android error). Will try testing in store tomorrow hopefully.
This is great news!

Always? No. Google is actively trying to keep Android Pay safe in the eyes of banks and credit card companies, whether that is by blocking system/system-less root, or making adjustments server side to prevent workarounds that could potentially exploit the Android Pay experience.

Well, i know google is trying to lock us out, but i thought safetynet was what Android pay uses to verify the the phone is indeed "safe". If the previous statement is correct, it would stand to reason that if it passes through safetynet helper then it'll also pass through android pay.

Necessary system apps and OTA

Hi guys,..
Does anyone have a current list of the necessary system apps for zenfone 2 Ze551ml? I just want to make sure I haven't removed anything that will hinder an upcoming ota update.
I have searched but there are a few different lists and I don't know which one is the right one.
Thankyou in advance
Opening uninstill I'm currently showing 165 system apps -3 which I moved there
So does 162 standard system apps sound right?

Thankyou so much! Is there an easy way to extract just that folder back into the phone... Like replace existing, just so I know that if any system apps were missing that they had been put back in. Just seems easier than cross referencing one by one. Sorry if it's a newbie question, I only just rooted for the first time this year
Just flash the full firmware rather than the ota, then you don't have to worry about it.

ok that was fun... i moved back apps i put into system... unrooted using supersu... downloaded ota and bammmm... error logo.
somehow restarted the phone with failed update . not sure where i went wrong but now the ota has disappeared all together so i can't even try again.
anyone know where i went wrong ?

Mario Kart Tour

YES, THIS, THANK YOU I WAS LOSING MY MIND. Apparently you can search your storage for any words related to root programs. I did all the classic magisk hide and didnt work, the game started, and then froze. I suppose thats the time it took the game to scan for files. Then, I read this GENIOUS POST, and I searched my storage for "MAGISK", found 3 files, obliterated them, and voila, the game worked.
