I am using Revan kernel R7Min. I've had this issue for a while and have checked around Google for a solution and nothing seems to work.
The issue is, no matter what settings I try to set for my kernel (such as my cpu governor, scheduler etc) when I reboot, they go back to default. Others on the same kernel are not having the same issue.
I am on stock OOS 4.5.6 but have always had this issue. I am using Magisk for root and do have greenify installed. I've ensured that any kernel modifying app is not greenified and is not battery optimized.
I've tried kernel auditor, kernel auditor mod, L speed, Room Tool box and ex kernel manager.
All produce the same problem. I've also uninstalled all mentioned apps and tested individually in the event they are conflicting with each other, no dice.
Anyone run into this before? My current workaround is to set everything, create a profile in one of the apps and restore post reboot.
Bump. Am I really the only person with this issue on a 1+5?

Try turning off advanced optimisation: Settings -> Battery -> Battery optimisation -> Three dot menu (⋮) -> Advanced optimisation -> Turn off. Once done, reboot and check if whatever you've applied to run at boot is running at boot or not. It should.

Thank you so much! That fixed it. I wonder if I'll lose some battery life.. that actually fixed a few problems I had. I bet the aggressive doze in greenify could correct any battery issues if I get them.
But thanks again! I've tried so much lol

No worries, I had a feeling this was the reason. Coming to battery life, I haven't noticed any loss of battery life after disabling the option. I think what the option does is stop apps, that have the run-at-boot permission, to run at boot. But even if they don't run at boot and you open them at any point of the time, they'll be up and running, and then it's the same thing really, so.
Anyway, have fun! :good:

By now you may have heard about Axon 7 killing music playing app issue, if you haven't experienced it yourself already. For me I'm having a similar or at least related issue. The phone would kill my game when I turn off and on screen. After some investigation, below is my observation
1. Doesn't happen all the time. After a fresh reboot, no killing for a while... but after some time using the phone, it starts to happen
2. Not app-specific: After playing a game heavily for a while, the killing starts... only for that specific game. If I play a different game, then only that new game gets killed.
This have driven me kinda crazy. A look at adb logs reveals this:
12-22 12:45:34.229 I/ActivityManager( 1752): Killing 23881:jp.co.happyelements.toto/u0a122 (adj 0): excessive high power cost :jp.co.happyelements.toto
What the actual f***??? Why would ZTE kill my "excessive high power cost" process *after* I turn on the screen (and not when I turn off screen, which was 5 seconds earlier)??? Has nobody in ZTE thought about that apps that has "high power cost" may not be actually "excessive" but totally within reasons and fall into the category of normal every day use?
And no amount of changing the native "power saving" options stopped this behavior. Back in the days I remember there was some root/xposed module that would whitelist apps from being killed by the OS but I couldn't remember the name. So now I have to ask help on how to deal with this idiocy.
Edit: My apologies... I just noticed I posted in the wrong section... mods please move the thread to Q&A section if possible. Thanks a lot.
is there seriously no solution?
This is intolerable

I did. Didn't help.
If it was that easy, then I wouldne be here asking about it would I?
Yep, have the same problem after trying the same things. Several apps (2 of which I use for monitoring blood sugar levels) will randomly stop updating until either re-launched or the phone is rebooted. I have disabled all power manager options to no avail. Whatever power management system ZTE has implemented, it's FAR too aggressive.
Disclaimer - I haven't pulled logcats, but your description of the problem matches mine exactly. Here's hoping for a fix in Nougat and/or a custom ROM, otherwise I'm moving to a different phone. The A7 has great hardware but the stock software is a bloated mess.
B27 does not have this issue (which is why I downgraded to it). Might be a solution for you until the next upgrade releases.

@whoiswes If you are talking about the xdrip app. I too want this app to work with this phone. I tried CM13 and had the app work for hours then at night it stopped working. I only tried it for one night so didn't try different settings. At least this is a positive sign once CM13 becomes more stable or CM14 is released. I heard the app won't work with B27 either.
Found a solution, though it needs root
Code:
pm disable com.zte.powersavemode
then reboot
This totally disables the power saving menu though

I made this xposed module specifically to fix the problem described in OP. If you have the exact problem, including the logcat message, then the module should fix it.
If you dont have the exact problem, including the logcat mesage, then go ****post in another thread.
My solution is to whitelist all apps in:
settings -> energy management -> app energy management -> option button (upper right) -> app protection list -> option button -> set all to off
But the problem is that this setting resets everytime you install/delete an app
Edit: Ok i just tried out manually setting all apps to "off", now it doesn't reset the apps when installing an app but the new app ist automatically allowed to be cleaned. So you still have to disallow cleaning for each installed app manually.
Just an FYI, I updated to the Cyanogenmod/Lineage 13 Beta by UDev and one of my problem apps has been running for 18 hours without a single hiccup. Trying the second problem app later today. Not a solution for this problem but from my perspective it definitely pinpoints Power Manager as the culprit.
@borijess - yeah, Nightwatch and xDrip are the 2 apps that I've had trouble with, and so far Nightwatch is working great on CM13 (1228 build).
I am facing issues with Google Allo, the notifications do not alert me to a new message either unless i have the app open or quite a while later. Tried the usual fixes but nothing resolve this, i dont think this is rom related as all others work and i have adjusted all settings including battery optimisation.
Any ideas would be appreciated
Do you use any apps like Greenify? that could be a problem if the app is being forced to sleep..
Or maybe take a look in Settings > Device Maintenance > Battery
there is a few settings in there that maybe putting it to sleep
scroll down to the bottom and add Allo to "unmonitored apps"

I have an A9 Pro (A9100) and i can't seem to get push-notifications to work.
Whenever i turn off the screen it kills all the messenger apps and no more notifications will be received until i go to Apps and actually open the app again.
I've tried everything i could think of, check restrictions on background data (no restrictions), power saving options (no power saving options are enabled), permissions (all granted), notification levels, notification priority. Nothing was set wrong or made any change.
I even did a factory reset and cleared cache several times to see if it would resolve the problem, but the problem persists.
I suspect there is some battery optimization going on but there doesn't seem to be any way to tweak or disable this?
When i check under settings->battery->battery usage->Whatsapp i can see "Adjust power use: Stop or uninstall application." I can't change this. When i tap it i just get the Application info from the Application manager. I even checked it's RAM usage to see if there were any management options, there are none, the only menu option i have is 'force stop'.
I've had other devices where under Battery there would be an option in the menu "App optimization", it's not there.
In another topic i read about Smart Manager, It's not on my device and the one from the play store is not useful in any way.
Any help would be highly appreciated!

I fixed this notification issue by entering in Smart Manager, then RAM Categorie. In RAM section, there is AUTO RUN APPS tab. You can disable optimization for the desired applications.
This method solved my notifications problem.
For your information, I am on the Tungtata v2 custom ROM (https://forum.xda-developers.com/sa...-a9100zcu1aqb3-tungtata-v2-6-0-1-xxv-t3598861)

Hello Members,
I was looking to run one of the apps in the background as it's work related . However, on the flip-side Android is building the operating system in such a way that it kills the apps for more battery life and/or best performance.
In order to fix it I have changed the following setting on OnePlus 6T which has worked like a charm.
Settings --> System --> Recent App Management --> Normal Clear (by default it is Deep Clear) - Change it to Normal Clear.
Hope this helps someone.
Cheers!
Actually default is normal clear.

Thanks polzovotel. However, for me it was Deep Clear
By me it was also normal clear. And it is not working.
I wanna have termux running in the background always, but it gets killed.
I disabled battery optimization for the termux app, I turned off adaptive battery. It still gets killed automatically.
Within termux there is termux-wakelock setting but it is not working on the 6t.
Tried with a Samsung phone and it works perfectly.

My Pushbullet and FB Messenger messages are severely delayed after I switched to the 8 Pro. I've made sure to disable RAM boost, also disabling any battery optimizations for said apps. Yet, most of the time, I don't receive any messages until I manually open the app in question. Not sure what else I should change or if this is a system issue. I never had these issues on my OP6 and used the same settings there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I've done that too. So strange that it didn't help. And seeing that it affects Pushbullet, Messengern and Whatsapp tells me it's not specifically app related.
I too have noticed issues with this, sometimes they come through exactly at the right time and other times I have to wake the screen before they then proceed to come through. It seems the battery optimisation settings are quite harsh on wake-locks out the box.
Remove each app from optimization. You should be able to find the app, and it's the settings app and then turn it off per app.
OnePlus really wind me up with their battery optimisations. It kills off the user experience in the name of good battery!

As I said in my original post, I've disabled the battery optimizations for the affected apps, but to no avail.
I may have found the cause and the solution to this, but it's still too early to tell. Most of my apps are restored using TiBu, coming from my previous OP6. I've uninstalled and reinstalled some of the problematic apps clean, not restoring app data with TiBu, but rather from the Play Store. I'm amazed that the app data is automatically restored upon app installation, given that the app itself allows it.
This seems to have done the trick, Pushbullet, Messenger and others seem to be giving me notifications instantly. I did have to disable battery optimization on those apps once more. I'll report back later.
Maybe a dalvik-cache and cache wipe would suffice, I have no idea.
The push notifications are extremely late if the phone remains quite unused, I have set the best but I cannot solve the problem. I need to take gmail emails in real time and this is a serious problem for me, have you found any solutions?
