How do I format data to Ftfs and why it's needed. If I do that and then change to a different rom (from Freedom OS), like RR, will I need to format back to ext4? Only format data or other partitions too if going to Ftfs? Very confused.
What partitions are we supposed to be backing up and restoring as we go back and forth? When does system image come into play? Why do I remain on encrypted on FOS 1.4 (Freedom Os) when I formatted data in twerp after using the no-verity.zip flash?
Why does my sdcard constantly mess up and randomally I don't see any files and even after flashing update-fix-sdcard-permissions.zip it still isn't fixed. Says the data is being used but can't see any files in the folders and end up having to do a fastboot format user data and restart completely. Very confused with the one plus coming from a nexus 6p which didn't have these problems. Please help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Also, if I want to keep a nandroid backup of a FOS 1.4 install and a RR backup and switch between the two without any headaches as described above...is it possible and if so how? Thank you in advance.
Thought I had some decent questions that others may also be wondering about. Not one reply?

I currently have HD2 with 512mb running android. Due to the lack of internal storage space, all apps are stored in the EXT4 on the SD card. This is a very neat function actually. Every time I flash a rom, all the apps will still be there.
I am about to get the DHD soon and since it's got plenty internal storage I guess it's natural to install app on internal rather than on SD (i know some rom do have support for EXT on SD). My question is, is there a way to partition the internal storage so part of it act as EXT, this way every time flashing a rom I don't have to restore all the apps??
If there is another way to achieve this, please let me know as well.
thanks,
No need to do anything like that. Before you flash a new ROM just wipe all the partitions apart from the data partition. Once you have flashed the ROM your apps will still be there.
You can use an add on script for apps to SD as well if you prefer.

Good to know that there will be no problem re-installing apps. Since I can't get hands dirty with an actual unit yet, could you please explain a little on the "wiping all the partitions apart from data partition". So by default, apps will be installed in a separate partition? what do you use to WIPE paritions? Clockwork or wipe-all?
Go into clockwork recovery you can select which partitions to wipe. Go into the mounts part and you can wipe them individually, wipe each one in turn apart from the data partition.
If however you experience problems yo. May have to wipe the data partition. Just do a backup first.

Hello all.
I would like some information on switching from an SD version of Android (on AmeriCan Android on SD atm) to a NAND version (likely AmeriCan Android NAND as well) and still keep my user account and information apks, everything the same? I'm coming from WinMo as my primary phone OS, then tested out WP7 for a while, so I have HSPL and MAGLDR installed. I was switching out SD cards between roms so I had a card dedicated to WP7 and one Fat32 for WinMo/SD Android. I later just set MAGLDR to boot straight to Android folder on the SD.
Can someone give me some pointers on how I can successfully accomplish this? I don't mind if it takes a bit of time/complication. I'm not very familiar with Android yet, so I'm not up on what would be the best Backup/restore methods or anything of the like atm. Also should I keep MAGLDR or switch to some booter more Android friendly?
Any help is appreciated,
D ;-)
You'd be fine keeping MAGLDR.
Titanium Backup is great for backing up and restoting your apps and app data.
Your contacts and calendar appointments are synced to your Google account, and really the only other thing you'll have to set up is your email accounts and your launcher preferences.
When switching to a NAND ROM, one thing to consider is partitioning your SD card with a 1gb ext3/4 partition for the use of A2SD or Data2SD, which will give you much more room for many more apps in Android.
Running out of internal memory isn't usually a big deal on SD builds because alot of them come with a 1gb data.img, but that's not the case with NAND. But with a 1gb partition and a A2SD enabled ROM, you'll never run out of space, your phone will run smooth even with hundreds of apps.
Just make sure to install the correct size CWM partition setup before flashing your new ROM.
WooHooo!!!! 800th post!!! Hooray for me!!
Thanks huggs. That was very helpful information. And from the sounds of it pretty simple stuff. Btw congratz on the posting accomplishment! ;-)
I have a few questions sparked from that info. Firstly what's a CWM partition? Second, when I backup with titanium will it save my system preferences as well? If not what will? I go through and make a lot of micro adjustments to stuff, and being that I'm basically going back to the same rom, can I keep my system setup while switching? Edit: Also meant to ask about SMS/MMS? Those are very important to me, will they be backed up as well?

CWM partition is the size of partitions that your NAND space will be divided into when you flash your ClockWork Mod Recovery.
The recovery you download will come with a flash.config file, you can open it with a text editor and change the partition sizes to the correct sizes listed in the thread of the ROM you wish to install, or you can search for the HD2 NAND toolkit, which is a graphical program that makes it easy to set your partition sizes and flash CWM.
As far as micro system settings, I don't know of any way to back those up when going from SD to NAND build, but on the upside, when you backup a NAND build in CWM, EVERYTHING down to the finest detail is backed up, and can be restored anytime.
For your SMS and MMS messages, there are programs in the Android market that can backup and restore your messages, but I have never used any of them, so I can't say which is the best. I guess the one that's free would be the best for me, but thats just because I'm a cheapskate
Titanium Backup will only restore your apps, and the data related to your apps. It takes a bit of getting to know how it works too, it's not super complicated, but it's not super simple either. Google will be very helpful on that one.
For your info I just swapped from Tytung's SD build to his NAND, his advice was to run the batch operation in titanium, for all system data and apps then restore using the similar batch operation in the new build.
It all worked fine, just remember to add the titanium .apk to your ROM zip before you flash it, so you have the means to restore your system before google account is connected.
This was swapping between the exact same ROM version.
Thank you very much for all the help, I greatly appreciate it. After a couple days playing with it trial and error, I got it down for moving from the SD to the NAND. I'll admit too that I almost had a heart attack for a while when I didn't know titanium would actually backup my contacts and settings, and deleted the copy I made with my backup accidentally.
boomboomer, i did it almost exactly that way, except for the titanium.apk, Next time I'll know that for heads up.
Again thanks for the help! Now I just have to figure out how to make CWMr work with roms that install from DFT.exe
Hey guys,
I was wondering how I could upgrade my Nexus 10 when I already rooted it.
2nd question is, if I used more than half the storage of my nexus 10, how will the full NANDROID backup be stored on the device???
Thanks!

The space used is probably most filled with apps and app data, or movies, music, etc. Nandroid backups dont save that, they only save the system, system data, bootloader, and a couple other things if you choose to. All that data should only take up maybe around 1GB or so, possibly less.
TO upgrade you just install a new version of a ROM that is built from newer source files.

I'm on stock rooted. when Google releases an update, how will I update???
Also, I thought nandroid includes /data,/system, /cache. correct?
If that is incorrect, how will I backup user app data?
I used to be in the nook color community, so I am not used to devices without a SD slot.
Thanks!

Yes you are correct. But the Nandroid still wont end up being 8GB.
You can individually back up app data for things you want to keep with Titanium Backup
Hello everyone, I've been an android fan for a long time but have only recently gotten my first smartphone- a Note 3.
Anyway, I flashed the Poland 4.4.2 a few days ago and I've afraid to flash Omega well basically I'm new to all of this.
Questions:
1. Do I need an sdcard to flash Omega 7.1? I currently don't have one and will be unable to get one for maybe at least a month.
2. I honestly love TW except for a few features it has that I don't use. So just to be clear, when I flash Omega 7.1 will I have the ability to select which TW apps(s-note,s-pen,etc) to install and not install(s-health,etc)?
3. I have TB installed and I am rooted. I have periodically made backups of all my application data. Will performing a full wipe remove the backups?(Knowing that I currently don't have an sdcard). Do I need to save TB backups on my desktop then?
4. What course of action do you guys recommend I should take to have the best possible and most error free experience with Omega 7.1 I should take?No wipe or full wipe? Will no wipe retain all my data?Application, phonebook, messages?I assume full wipe means all data will be lost.
Thank you for those who will be able to help and answer my queries especially those experienced with the Omega rom.
I tried searching the forums regarding the questions I have but I couldn't find them so resorting to posting a separate thread.

Nope no need for an extSD card.(advisable to get one incase of mishaps) - Just don't wipe internal memory if you plan to flash directly from your internal SD!
All TW functions are intact unless ROM Dev says otherwise - Aroma set up wizard will guide you through.. and those you don't want you can freeze with TiB
You can use TB fixer to restore your backups without issue
Full wipe all the way, fixes 99% of any potential issues

Wow that was fast.
Clarification:
is TB fixer an app?or a TB functionality? I haven't really played with TB yet. Will it be much easier if I made backups and then just store the backups on my pc and then do a full wipe and then restore the backups after flashing Omega? I find that the most straightforward approach but then again, things might be different in the Android community

A full wipe will not delete internal or external memory cards' data. It will just remove personal system data. Nevertheless, it is not a bad idea to have a copy elsewhere.
I always make a copy in my external memory card and do what ever I want with the device with the external memory out just in case. and then put it back in when done.
The TB fixer is included (I believe) with Omega 7.1. I strongly recommend a full wipe.
good luck.

Ahh,thank you for that. The terminologies scare me as of now and what they actually implied since it'll be a pain in the ass recovering the data I have. I will perform a full backup with TB and will make a copy to my desktop just in case since I don't have an external memory yet mimicking what you do with making a copy to your extSD and taking it out.
I am now downloading the necessary stuff. I will post an update later.
thank you for the responses guys!
update: I have now successfully flashed Omega 7.1 on my Note 3.
thank you very much for clarifying you guys!

Great. Glad to be able to help you.
I don't personally have much sensitive data on my device and previously owned a OnePlus 5T which I customized, unencrypted and formatted data to f2fs for extreme ease to restore backups and try different roms without the hassle of having to start from scratch every time I felt like something new. However, now that I own a 6T I haven't been able to find any guides or files on how to decrypt it and run f2fs if its even possible. The files I have received haven't been working whatsoever.
Please if you can provide any information I would like to be unencrypted and run f2fs in data partition, if this is not possible at the very least unencrypting must be, I just don't know how.
Thanks for any replies, Cheers!
