Setting wallpapers problem - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

Ok so where to start..? I'm unable to set any wallpaper... In order...
When i try to set a photo or image to wallpaper with stock launcher or nova or evie it says "unable to load photo", but from gallery i can open and see all of my photo, it gives me that error only when i try to set as wallpaper... Connecting phone to PC, windows can visualize all the wallpaper with no problem and the files ar not corrupted or nothing... I've tried Factory Reset, Decrypt, Encrypt data etc.. but nothing seems to work or resolve the problem... Every other files on external storage works fine, from .apk to .txt and other types... External storage is f2fs and i'm on freedomos with unlocked bootloader and TWRP... For last try i've downloaded a photo from an album on Google+, saved it on pendrive via USB OTG and if i set it to wallpaper it works fine no problem, but if i copy it on External Storage it didn't works anymore, but if i re-put it again back in pendrive it works... I know it's confused and sorry for bad english.... I came from Resurrection Remix which was needing (now no more) data partition to ext4 and this problem started when i format data from ext4 to f2fs to make freedom os works again.... I miss something about protection like read&write somewhere? i really did not understand why it's not working... Thanks for help
So basically.. A photo loaded from external storage = unable to set as wallpaper
THE SAME photo loaded from otg pendrive = very able to set as wallpapr aka no problem at all

Question: which is the default file system of the OnePlus 5 partitions?
I've cache and system on ext4, data on f2fs.. need I to put the first 2 on f2fs too?

Can someone simply with the twrp recovery check which is the file system of various partition please?

Solved this problem.. after many tries I've find the solution with loading wallpaper via launcher using x-plore file manager.. Hope this will be useful if someone in the future will have this problem too
EDIT: The guilty was f2fs data partition... Now in ext4 everything works fine with any gallery app

[Q] sdcard read only from PC

This was a bit unexpected. Lollipop is supposed to make using SDCARD (in this case there is NO sdcard) more sensible.
However now I can't copy any files to Nexus in MTP mode. I can do that in P2P mode but only to the picture folders. Any suggestions on that? Selinux setting?
And, yes, I did try making a new folder but no joy. I also noticed I can't see app-specific folders such as titaniumbackup.

I just upgraded my N10 to Lollipop yesterday. I'm rooted, have SELinux Mode Changer (set to permissive mode) and have USB OTG Helper [root]https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.shajul.usbotg&hl=en installed. That gives me full unfettered RW access to my OTG SDCard reader. USB OTG Helper expands the number of SDCard file formats that Android supports. I have mine formatted to ext4 to remove the 2GB file limit but thats just my requirement. I used ES File Explorer to access the SDCard and move/copy files, although I'm sure many other file managers would have worked.
I hope that info helps.
It's not an actual SDCARD but the internal emulated sdcard which is being difficult.

I am in the same boat. I want to restore some apps I backed up in 4.4.4 and lollipop won't read the backup folders in the root directory. I can see and access them via pc, but not through Android. I tried using Titanium & MyBack Up Pro w/ SU access. No dice. Like you, I also tried moving the folders to my Desktop and back. Renaming, creating new folders, etc..., doesn't help.
I can't work around the issue. My current thinking is that we are dealing with a security feature. It seems like all my 4.4.4 folders with user info in them are walled off.
Grrrrr

[HOWTO] Format and use SD card with ext4

WARNING
This will format your SD Card and you will lose all data on it! Make a backup first!
WHY
No limit of file size
Safer filesystem
IMPORTANT
If you use SuperSU, disable "Mount namespace separation"
You need to have busybox installed!
TWRP recovery will automatically detect the filesystem and work as before.
Everything works as before. That includes MTP, Stock File Manager, Storage settings.
HOWTO
Install SuperSU:
If you have root, just download from play store, select Normal Installation. Wait. Go to MIUI Security, Root permissions, and enable SuperSU. Go back to SuperSU, select Normal Installation again.
If you don't have root, you need to install from recovery, with twrp.
Install Busybox from Google Play, then start the app, and press install.
Install Redmi Note 2 Tool from Google Play.
Start the app, give root persmissions.
In MIUI security, enable Autostart and Root for Redmi Note 2 Tool.
If you only want to use the SD Card functions without the CPU tweaks make sure Set On Boot and modify touchboost is unticked.
Make sure you have a backup of every important data on your SD.
Select Other from the left menu, and press Format SD as ext4, if you haven't done it manually before.
Tick Mount SD as ext4 on boot.
Press Save&Apply, and you are good to go.
OP updated with own application and instructions.
Hi, is there a limitation to the sd card capacity? As I'm using 64 GB one with FAT32 and I want to increase the 4 GB file size limit. Thanks
No, it's not something you have to worry about today. (16TB)

Hi,
I´m sorry to ask but watt´s the advantage of this.
Regards
micro SD card with FAT 32 limit max file size to store on it to 4GB.
There was an issue with mounting that could prevent writing to the card. Hopefully 1.3 will solve this.
I have managed to make it work without SuperSU and busybox from version 1.5, although some feedback would be nice.

Try again a few times, or try to reboot. If the problem persists, you may have to format the card in a PC.
Also 1.8(.1) has a problem with auto-mount on boot, it is fixed in 1.8.2

Is there a possibility to save aps on sd? I think by using apps2sd, make second swap partition? Dont know am i right...

With 1.8.3 you can continue even when using other governors.
Apps2SD would be harder. Yes you need second partition, and you would need to mount that to data in the beginning of the boot. That's not possible without ramdisk tweaking. Which is extremely hard and dangerous to do with an application.
Is it possible to read a SD card formated with ext4 in Windows?

If the phone is connected to the PC, with MTP, you can read/write as before.
If you want to read the card itself, you need something like ext2fsd, or a total commander plugin, etc.
Sorry if I ask something silly. If I backup data with titanium before formatting sd card with ext4, can I just restore it after formatting the sd card ? Or I should do another thing first ?
Sent from my Redmi Note 2 using Tapatalk
Titanium backup is going to backup your applications to the sdcard, so it's not what you want.
You just have to copy everything from external sd to your pc or cloud or whatever, and after formatting, copy it back.

Ha..ha..ha..how can I forget about that. I forget about system and aplications are installed in internal storage and backup to sd card. I'm going to try it. Thank you for you explanation..

With the past few versions, it was actually not possible to format the card.
This new version will not only format, but repartition it, to minimize the chance for an error.
I have used the Redmi Note 2 Tool for some time, but since Xiaomi removed Root from there Dev Roms and I have to use SuperSU for Root the mounting of my ext4 sd card doesn't work correctly anymore. I always get a Permission Denied error in Apps that don't have Root Rights.
Is there a way to make this work again or did I overlook some Setting?
Hard to understanding ex4 is OK if in case not wok I can mount again in ex4 tools. But miui file broser file manager can't use ext 4. Rootexpoler can use ex4. Is it need give permision for each program ? They don't ask for permision. Then how to solve it and run ex4 sdcard as normal in fat 32

Data Recovery from S4 GT-I9506 Andriod 4.3

I need help to recover data (photo, contacts, WhatsApp chats) from my Un-Rooted GT-I9506 running Android 4.3. Due to some error the data was not synced for about 6 months.
Any help as the steps that I need to follow is greatly appreciated
The what's app chats should re-appear if you reinstall what's app and sign in on another phone.
So the phone won't boot at all into the rom? If not, you could install twrp using Odin, boot into twrp, mount the data partition, and copy the data to your computer. Before any of this will work, you need to make sure that the phone is seen by your windows computer.

Thank you audit13 for your help.
My GT-I9506 is working perfectly fine so I should be able to install TWRP.
However I made a mistake and loaded the TWRP ment S4-I337M. I got the usual Green OK message in ODIN. However when I pressed Volume Up & Power I was getting the usual Samsung Default Recovery Options.
Then I realized my mistake and loaded TWRP_3.0.2.0_ks01lte_20160508.tar.md5
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...recovery-twrp-2-8-1-0-touch-recovery-t2942159
I got thw Green Successful Message in ODIN. But when I press Volume Down & Power I get the following message:
Recover Booting
Wet Warranty Bit: Recovery.
And the Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9506 in the Black Screen logo
The phone is stuck in the above screen
Phone is working fine (I am able to use the phone and to go to Download Mode).
What should I do?
Re-flash TWRP. I recommend re-flashing TWRP. I like and still use 2.87.
https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxys4ltea.html
Open Odin, uncheck auto reboot, flash TWRP and, when you see the word "reset" in the status window, remove USB cable, remove battery, replace battery, use button combination to boot into TWRP.

When you have time can you please point me to link that have step by step instructions to recover the data?
Boot into twrp, connect phone to computer, open file explorer and look for your data. If you don't see anything in the data partition, you may have to try using a data recovery program. Try a program like recuva.

Thank you so much for your help. The files were deleted so I could not find them. I have downloaded Recuva.
What is the Optimal way to recover All deleted files using Recuva?
I did a search and this what I found and I not sure how to do it:
back up the entire internal memory partition to your computer as a single, massive .RAW file,
convert the .RAW file output to a VHD,
mount the VHD as a disk in Disk Manager,
scan the attached VHD volume for files that have been deleted and recover them,
Sorry, I have never use recuva on a phone or non-volatile memory. only mechanical drives.

When I boot GT-9506 into TWRP and mount the internal storage as USB my PC is not detecting the phone internal storage. Even Recuva or HDD Raw Copy Tool is not detecting the phone internal storage.
Any suggestions?
Does TWRP's file manager see any of your data files?
How was the data lost?
- Did you delete it manually?
- Did your format the device?
If so, then it's IMPOSSIBLE to get your data back. That's because Google enabled TRIM in Android 4.3+, so data you deleted is really gone.
If you are stubborn like most of the users and still want to waste lot's of time trying to recover the data then this is the thread you are searching for.

TWRP File Manager seems to show all folders example: boot, cache, data, dev, ect, external_sd, license, preload, proc, recovery, res, root, sbin, sdcard, sideload, spersu, system, tem, twres, usbstorage, charger, default.prop .......
When I go into the data folder I see a lot of sub folders including app folder, app-asec, app-lib, app-private, audio, backup, mcmnfc .......
What I go into app folder I see some app files such as "com.whatsapp-34.apk, com.viber.voip6.apk
I am mainly trying to recover deleted Whatsapp & Viber chat, calls history

The data was deleted manually but it was not formatted nor a factory reset done.
Yes I did see that 100 page long thread. But as mentioned in this tread my internal storage is NOT detected by Recuva or raw HDD copy utility.
I need the deleted data very badly. So I am willing to jump through any loops

If you deleted the data manually then you cannot get it back. There are no loops to jump through.
Android 4.3+ has Trim enabled. The TRIM function effectively nulls out the space where deleted files were stored, making the data completely unrecoverable.

Encrypted storage while switching ROMs; what now?

So... Me being used to the older partition layout style on my Galaxy S5, I switched to a new ROM from MIUI (as I wanted to try how it feels like). In all of that. I forgot that I have to back everything up from my internal storage as it will be encrypted (who thought this was a good idea?). It's been 2 days now of me fighting with the phone, TWRP & OrangeFox yet to no avail. I supposedly am decrypting the /data partition as both recoveries accept the password I had set for my lockscreen, yet they still complain that they can't mount /data & that they're unable to mount storage. The issue is, that even though the recoveries are accepting the password, Android itself doesn't... No matter if I try my lockscreen password, my SIM card PIN or even default_password, none of them seem to work. I have an external sdcard in my phone, to which I do get access through MTP in TWRP/OrangeFox yet even after flashing stuff like Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt etc. the internal storage is still being encrypted & I have no idea what to do. I found a command online that supposedly pulls the files from the internal storage & packs them into a nice .img file in EXT4 format, but when I do that, it seems to gather data for eternity (I have a 128GB phone, but come on, I only had like 35-40GB of data on it) where as for the person that I got the command from, it was just 6GB. When I try to open the .img file, it says that it's corrupted etc. & doesn't let me open it. I am now running out of options & have no idea what to do; I don't want to lose pictures from my phone, as I had some very important ones on there, that I just simply can't lose. Is there any help?
This is what I get in command prompt when I input my password through it:
D:\adb>adb shell twrp decrypt <mypasswordhere>
Attempting to decrypt data partition via command line.
Data successfully decrypted, new block device: '/dev/block/dm-0'
Updating partition details...
...done
Unable to mount storage
But as I said, /data & internal storage are still shown as empty

The wrong thing with this method is that I CAN NOT boot into Android to copy over files because it asks me for a password before the lockscreen shows up... When I try to put in my password, it doesn't accept any & gives me a warning that my data will be wiped after I fail to get the right password after a few tries
Welp, I used the command 'adb pull /dev/block/dm-0 ./decrypted-data.img' to pull everything from the phone, but at this phone I don't even know if the file will have anything in it or if it's just empty & I lost all my important pictures for ever... Now I just gotta find a way to mount that image under Linux (or Windows), altough that will be a pain as that's a partition image, not just a regular one :crying:

Simply upgrading MIUI should not result in anything like this. Millions of people do that, without any trouble. What exactly was the ROM that you had before, and what exactly is the ROM that you replaced it with?

I was on Xiaomi.eu's MIUI, wanted to flash Pixel Experience ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-7/development/rom-pixel-experience-t3930709 ) to try it out. After formatting cache, Dalvik, data & system I flashed PE. After it booted up after a few seconds, it showed me the screen to input my password & make emergency calls. I tried putting in 3 different passwords, yet none of them worked. Now, after 2 days of struggling & almost giving up on everything, I managed to pull the data from the internal storage (I hope the file has content in it), wiped everything from my phone & installed PE again...
You should flash again same rom (which you use before flashing new one)

If you did format data (instead of just wiping it), then your internal storage is already gone - formatting data also wipes the internal storage. So, did you format data or did you just wipe it?
BTW: if you formatted data, then it would be wholly unusual to be asked for a password to decrypt the phone.

From TWRP/Orange Fox
Format Data (type yes)
Reboot recovery
Do a full wipe then install your Rom/Gapps etc
Reboot System.
I know about this method, but it isn't of any help when you want to keep the content on your internal storage

I think that unfortunately the only way is to format data. Remember to make always a backup before installling roms. Every time you make a clean flash there is the issue with the password request as a workaround I noticed that if I install magisk just after the rom without rebooting to system the password is not requested
