I read that Oxygen OS is designed to run at the most 32 apps at the same time...
But with 8 GB of RAM, this a waste of memory I think... is there any way to set a high limit or infinite?
thank you!!

what limit should we set?
I'm sure I read that people were setting it around 45 although who runs 45 applications at the same time? (I don't think background system processes count in that)
Lol
Who runs 32 apps at once?
?
Sent from my 8GB/128GB OP5 using Tapatalk PRO ?
I don't think I have 32 apps installed lol
I don't have any proof to back up my claim, but I believe OxygenOS uses a portion of the RAM for optimizations and performance. Hence why the 8GB variant seems to be slightly faster than the 6GB variant.

This is what I've had it at since I received it. Using this phone is too much fun... Everything is so smooth, quick, and responsive.
I have 8GB model
Titanium backup says k have 208 user apps and 138 system apps.
I set my cap to 60 or 65. Right now im at 65 with swap enabled and the phone keeps practically an infinite amount of things in memory.

No need to worry about that; that's the way Android is meant to work. It keeps
your apps cached, so it can start them faster when you need them. So, don't
flush your RAM unless your Note becomes sluggish.
If you are rooted, you can try Titanium Backup to remove unneeded stock programs like media hub, social hub, yahoo finance ... etc.
There is a list of programs which are safe to remove for SGS2 somewhere in the forum. Most of them are applicable to SGN aswell. I gained 100 (+) MByte and now my memory use is around 500-550 MByte for most of the time. After cleaning the memory I get 370 MByte memory use which is pretty good.
But, be careful... Think twice before removing any stock application.
Bests,

Is it the case that when Cyanogenmod/AOSP comes our way, they could release more usable RAM?

That it is a samsung lie. Other phones with the SD800 and 2gb of ram gives the user 1.81gb like the LG G2 or the nexus 5 in screenshots.
So, if LG only takes 190mb of ram with the same processor, theres no reason to take 500 by samsung, or at least not by the GPU. And if samsung needs 700mb for the s-crapware preinstalled, well, thats unfortunate.

So much this, I can accept that to some people have a phone with 30 apps installed, but I have over 400, and even if I use greenify or autostarts to freeze a most of them, I use a lot of ram, and I also need to use ram managers, if the phone goes below 200mb, it becomes super ultra slow, so from 2.3 to 2.7 it is a huge improvement that I really want to have.
I have found my note 3 freezes considerably when only few apps are running in the background. I'm constantly closing apps via task manager which I didn't have to on my HTC one. So something clearly isn't working as it should. This was one of the reasons why i moved away from samsung phones in the past.
I do like note 3 but I can't help feeling it's over bloated. I've had 3 note 3's all have the same issue.
Having 4 hours of use since it came out of the box nothing has been slow about it, even while restoring and using the phone. Once again my 2 was lagging with a fair number of apps running in the background if I didn't kill it.

I have 382 apps installed, and my RAM sticks at 1.2GB in use even without closing anything... Drops to 800MB in use when I clean them (and a lovely '62 apps closed' popup).
So I have no idea what is eating so much on yours as to require RAMmanagers.

I have yet to see any major issues with ram. I often check my available ram and only on 1 occasion i have used over 2GB ram, and i had loads of apps still open.
Not had any system slow downs so far.

Just setting up phone and with nothing on yet, when I connect to my laptop it says I have 100gig to use, can it be that 28 gig is being used by the system?? surely not...
2 things to remember:
A) Formatting
B) PH-1, just like Pixel devices, uses an A/B partition scheme. Which has the benefit of online updates, but the con of eating much more space.

I just reverted back to Nougat because of performance issues on Oreo 8.1 beta. I have installed apps and music and not much else and this is what I have for system usage 15.9GB.
I also wouldn't believe what Winblows says for storage, it's hardly ever right. And I do agree with Skripa, A/B partitions will limit the amount of usable storage. How much stuff do put on your phone anyway?

You have A/B partitioning... Meaning you have 2 copies of the OS on system... One A... And one B... With corresponding boot.img...
True. But I believe that's what the Pixel does as well.

And... Stone cold guess... Pixel takes the other slot... And ignores it... Since that's the phone the system was designed on...
You realize that once the partition is labeled system... You don't get the space back... It will always be system... Even if unused...
Unless you do the big no-no and try to change the partition table
My 8.1 shows up at 21GB.

A few months ago I would end up with 600 mb of ram after opening a few apps including settings. Each month has brought improvements. After the January update I now have around 1200 or more free mb after opening and closing apps keeping the phone fast. I use a lot of ram with my widgets and apps so I like this last update

Does that mean to say that some background apps are being shut down more? As they say, unused ram can be at times wasted ram, so I hope this freeing up of the ram is not at the expense of apps being closed!

For me I generally do too. Back in the day I used to have "long press back to kill" and so my method of returning to home screen was always to kill an app. But I've found recently with some apps, e.g. Di radio music streaming, despite being ignored from battery optimisation, kept getting closed in the background the other day...
Therefore I hope this potential new ram management with Jan update is smarter...

It's better ram management. When I open and close settings I would lose 200mb...so it wouldn't free up the ram even though I closed settings. Now the ram is restored after closing settings.
So they have been working on ram management.

Actually you are, opened apps stored in RAM does not use any additional cpu/battery resources. On the other hand closing and then reopening apps uses the cpu so it uses more battery.

Yep, I believe that. However, I bet the difference is so minimal it really makes no difference at all.

My guess is placebo effect for everyone.
Some people swear the battery life is worse, other it's better, some said the device is faster, other it's slower.
Hey guys, I hope you're all doing well.
My question is why in my RN7 that hast 4gb of RAM, there is alway at least 1.5GB free? I also noticed it in a friend's phone that have 3GB and with 1 or 2 GB free, I wouln't mind if my phone usage was low, but almost always it has to reload the apps that were opened before the 3rd or 4th most recent. I dont know if I'm making any sense but the RAM usage shouldn't be almost 100%?
Thank you
Is that for what u ask?
That's exactly what I mean, the RAM is free but several apps have to be reloaded after a while.
Edit: I think I found an answer, I suppose is the battery optimizer that closes apps after a while, if anyone knows about this, please confirm.
2Gb free here. On latest RevOS MIUI.
I'm not worried about using 2 of 4gigs, is the contrary, I want to use all the gigs so my apps don't reload too often and are ready to use
