Slow file transfer over wifi, but fast over internet - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

I have a Tmobile branded Asus AC1900 router. Samsung Galaxy S8 phone with latest software updates The router is configured in Wireless access point mode. The router is from Verizon fios. I run speedtest and get 60-70 Mbps. Also, file download from the internet is fast. However, if I try to copy files from my PC/NAS using the WiFi network, to the phone I am only getting 1 Mbyte/sec at most.
The Wifi is using B/G/N mode with auto configured channel. I also tried using my original Verizon router's wifi set to G mode only and also had the same issue with slow speed.
How can I fix it?
I am able to copy files at full speed to other devices (tried Win10 tablet).
Thanks!

[Q] What's the connection speed with your WiFi N router?

Hi,
I recently got myself a new Type N WiFi router. On my old B/G Wifi router my SGS connected with 54MBit/s as it is supposed to do.
I was expecting to see a connection speed of 300MBit/s now (I'm not talking about the effective transfer rate, just the connection speed) but instead my SGS connects with very variable speeds to the router but never exceeding 65MBit/s.
Is this normal or do I have to do some specific settings in the phone or in the router?
my notebook computer connected at 300Mb/s while my SGS is at 72Mbps. HD(720p) playback through network is smooth.
its normal, sgs has only one antenna, look it up, for 300 Mbit u need 3 antenna.

You are talking about the transfer rate, I asked instead about the connection speed. You might be able to see this logging into your router. Your slow transfer speed probably depends of the fact that you are connected with your PC through Wi-Fi too. Connect the PC by cable and your transfer speed will at least double.

my all-time maximum is 72Mbps
and its not even effective
when transferring files it uses about half of that speed
720p is indeed smooth

Galaxy S 4 will NOT do wireless N (802.11n)

Hello everybody,
I have searched all over the web and these forums trying to find an answer as to why my Galaxy S4 (SGH-M919)refuses to connect to my wifi network using wireless N (802.11n).
I thought something was wrong with my network at first, but I went into service mode on my S4 and clicked on wifi and it says this:
Link Speed: 5Mbps 802.11b
Now, when I'm in service mode looking at that, I click the option to turn off WIFI Power Save Mode. When I turn that off, it refreshes and connects to 802.11n at 54Mbps, but that only lasts for 2 seconds and then it reverts back to 802.11b at 5Mbps. GAH!!!!
My router is set to wireless N only, so I don't understand why my phone insists on using 802.11b instead of 802.11n. My router is an ASUS RT-AC68U and I am not a noob when it comes to networking and routers but I cannot figure this out no matter what I try.
My S4 works perfectly fine on 802.11ac (very fast) but that's only on the 5GHz spectrum and I want to use 2.4GHz for better range and other various reasons.
My router is awesome and very fast, and my S4 did the same thing with my old router. So it's definitely my phone. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!! Thanks in advance.

How to WiFi tether VPN speeds?

Here is my issue. I can only get around 5-10mpbs with normal data (T-Mobile). I get unbelievable speeds on my phone using DroidVPN. Speed test by Ookla, tests range from 30-60mbps download and 5-10mbps upload. Every time I connect a device to my phone I am seeing the normal data speeds and not the VPN speeds. Example: My speed on the other device only gets around 0.2-1mbps.
What I would like to do is share the VPN speed with other devices (computer, phone, game consoles, routers, etc.) using the WiFi hotspot on my phone. Best possible scenario is to share that speed with my cradlepoint router to output its own signal so the rest of the household can connect and benefit.
I have tried every possible method I could find. Terminal commands, apps such as DF Tethering Fix and TetherNet, APN Settings, apps such as PDANet+ and WiFi Tether Router, build.prop edits.
I am using a rooted Nexus 6p Marshmallow 6.0.1.
If anyone has a solution or at least an answer to why I cannot share my phones speed using a VPN via WiFi hotspot please reply. Thank you.

Speed up phone's WiFi? Speedtest shows slower than actual internet speed

Is the phone's MODEM speed limited to about 50mb/s?
My internet speed is 70mb/s as measured on my computer WiFi connected to my router. The max speed the phone is showing is 48-49mb/s while sitting right next to the computer.
Is there a (build.prop) mod that can speed up the phone's WiFi speed? The phone is rooted.
Your computer could be using a different wifi band than your phone. Computer's speed often differ from the phone. Also both the devices have different types of antenna and operating power levels. I don't think messing with the build.prop would do much.
Let me ask the question differently. Is anyone getting faster than 50mbps on this phone? I am not.
The phone is rooted running 2/1/19 update OEM ROM Potter. Router b/g/n broadcasting at 2.4gHz only. Internet download speed is 90-100mbps on the computer. Phone and computer speeds measured 2 feet away from the router using the same Comcast speedtest app..

5GHz Wi-Fi Issues - SM-T510

Hello,
I just purchased this Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2019) SM-T510 tablet a few days ago and I've had strange issues with 5GHz Wi-Fi from the start.
The problem is that when I'm connected to my 5GHz wireless network and open particular apps (that were not already running or in the background), the apps have no connectivity at all and after waiting several minutes might still not have connectivity or run at a very low network speed (0-3Mbps). The apps I have experienced these issues with so far are Discord, MX Player/VLC Player (when trying to run files from local network), Firefox browser and Play Store (when downloading or updating apps).
Chrome, YouTube and Speedtest run fine whenever I'm connected to the network and start them, but Speedtest sometimes gives a download speed of 2-6 Mbps and other times 80+Mbps or more. Upload speed is always 170Mbps or more. Server does not matter. Chrome rarely shows a "website not available" screen for like 0,5 seconds before succesfully connecting to a website.
However, if I launch for example Discord in Pop-up view and then run Speedtest in the background, suddenly Discord gets full connectivity as soon as I start the speed test even though normally it would take minutes or not get connectivity at all.
The Wi-Fi settings in android show that the connection speed to the router is around 433 Mbps despite the connection working very slowly even within local network.
The issues persist even when I'm next to the router and have disconnected every other device from the Wi-Fi.
My Galaxy S7 and Nexus 7 are also connected to the same 5GHz network and do not have any connection issues with any apps and S7 always gets around 250Mbps down and Nexus 7 150Mbps down on speedtest.
However, If I'm connected to the same network on 2.4GHz, everything just...completely works. Discord, Video Players and browsers have full connectivity and speed as soon as I start them. No issues at all. Speedtest gets 40-50Mbps Download and Upload speed all the time without speed drops at all. This at least makes the device less annoying to use, but I would still much prefer to use the faster 5GHz network.
So far I've tried the following things to no effect:
-Restarting tablet and router
-Forget and readd the network in settings
-Reset all network and connectivity settings in android
-Played with Wifi Fixer app from Play Store
-802.11ac, 802.11a and 802.11n only modes in router instead of 802.11a/n/ac mixed
-Different Wi-Fi channels and channel widths in router
-Assigned a static IP
Planning on doing a factory reset on both the tablet and router later, but any help or ideas would be appreciated. Don't want to return this thing just yet.
Couple of years later, but I have the exact same issue. Did you ever find a solution?
