Does Magisk work to root the 935V (Verizon S7 Edge) - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

Hi All,
Does anyone know if Magisk would work to root the 935V?
See this link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445

Wrong section bud, This is for development. You want to post in Q&A
You can use it in place of supersu, as a manager but thats all.. as far as I know.

No, magisk modifies the boot.img and will cause dm-verity to fail.

Dm-verity is off once we flash the engboot.img anyway..
So that wont matter. He can use magisk but he won't be able to use all the features magisk bring to the table. It'll be just like supersu.. Just a root manager

I have tried installing it, dont do it you will end up with a soft brick, and you will have to flash back to the official sofware through odin

No we can't since it's a systemless root that modifys the kernel and have locked bootloaders.....so in other words the US Variants don't get to have nice things ☹

Moto X Pure and Magisk Support

I have installed Magisk on my XT1575, for those who dont know, its a method in which Xposed can be installed systemless, with the benefit of taking OTA's. And as a bonus, things like android pay work (with a on-the-fly toggle) to turn off root check, snapchat works, etc.
Pre-requisites (MARSHMALLOW)
1. Stock rom (this is mandated by the developer @topjohnwu ) preferably stock kernel, but i am using frankenclark
1A. TWRP (Download Link Here) https://dl.twrp.me/clark/twrp-3.0.2-0-clark.img.html
2. Magisk manager zip (Download Link Here) http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=19632&task=get
3. Custom superuser PHH-Superuser (Download link here) http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=19633&task=get
4. Custom Xposed (Download Link Here) http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3832615&d=1470276932
5. Custom Superuser app from the playstore (Download Link Here) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.phh.superuser
6. Custom Xposed Installer (Download Link Here) http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=19668&task=get
Steps:
1. Start with clean stock marshmallow 18-4 (i used the firmware flash and did it that way)
2. Install TWRP (1A)
3. Boot into TWRP recovery (do not select system writable. leave it stock, this ensures the chances of OTA support, unless you dont care, then set it writable)
4. Flash frankenkernel, if you want, if not continue on
5. Flash MAGISK (2)
6. FLASH custom superuser (3)
7. Flash Xposed framework (4)
8. reboot into marshamallow
9. Before opening MAGISK, install the custom superuser app from the playstore (5)
10. Install the custom XPOSED installer (6)
11. You should now see that xposed 86.3 is active
12. Profit, make sure to check MAGISK and see if the toggle between rooted and unrooted works, but it should.

Links #3 and #4 are dead.
Do I need PHH-Superuser or can I use SuperSU? It looks like I only need PHH-Superuser if I want to use android Pay.

What are you running for a stock, rooted systemless supersu ROM that passes safety net?

whelp, the whole reason i had a xpure was because my 10 was getting uh oh'd for a broken display, and that took 2 weeks. When i wrote the post, magisk and phh was rollin in the regards that android pay (safetynet) had been beat, so i wrote a writeup on how to do it. Now safetynet has been upgraded to the point where magisk is beat, afaik.
Magisk screwed with my banking app, and i didnt use it for anything else, so i stuck with systemless supersu & xposed instead, no magisk on my 10.
Honestly, im not sure why people want android pay, all the places i used it, charged me extra for using, like a 1.50 pepsi cost 2.10 out of our vending machines at work.
Couldn't agree more. For the systemless root - all you did was install SuperSU from play store and run that command in twrp?

No, Magisk is only designed for stock, unrooted roms. It doesn't get around SafetyNet anymore anyway, Android Pay, Pokémon Go, and most financial apps won't work anyway.

Nandroid and try a full unroot and reboot... It might work since it's largely stock, but it doesn't work in most custom roms

Doing a system-less root on s4 using magisk possible?

alright im thinking of doing system-less root with xposed using magisk (yes im a pokemon goer thats ticked off from its new update) just wanting to know what would be the best way to go about this. If it is possible. currently im running GoldenEYE rom android 5.0.1 dont have fastboot so i already know i have alot of work in Odin to do. would love to have CM12.1 running with a systemless root but last time i tried to even get CM12.1 loaded it never worked.
So anyidea if this is possible or not. (yes i do have stock roms at the ready from when i put on my current rom along with root methods)
You don't have to do anything in Odin.
All you need is TWRP.
Then follow the Magisk instructions.
Unroot, uninstall Xposed (if present), flash Magisk zip, flash phh root zip, download phh superuser app and Magisk manager app.
well that sucked. now have the dreaded unauthorized soft ware. found a way around it to get phone booted. going into download mode then cancel out restarting phone from there.
So I tried this exact thing two days ago because I have an S4 with the Goldeneye rom installed, and unfortunately got these results
I opened up superSU and did a full unroot, after
I deleted the xposed that was installed (v86 by dlc) using the uninstaller through TWRP.
Next I flashed magisk v6 zip along with the phh superuser zip, and ended up in a bootloop..
The phone wouldnt pass the boot animation, so i uninstalled magisk, and reflashed superSU
On my end its not working, mate.

As far as I know, systemless stuff works only on Android 6 and above.
Goldeneye is a TouchWiz ROM, therefor it's android 5.
Magisk works on Touchwiz 5.0
Magisk works on android 5.0 touchwiz. Im using lenny bard stock HPG1 rom and PoGo works perfectly
Sure you can do it. i have gt-i9500 variant with 5.1.1 port tw android. magisk work when i want to play pokemon go. the only problem i have now is the systemless xposed not working as expected.
I am under the impression I am not able to get TWRP on mine because its the later version with locked bootloader.. what options are there.. Currently Download Graded to 4.4.4 to use towel root and installed Flashfire so i can install Safestrap
Really want to use Magisk

I know this is pretty old but just a headsup if you have the latest bootloader that is locked you can just download firmware for your region with an older bootloader and flash the entire thing with odin. I had the locked bootloader issue and odin fixed it.

Magisk on s7 & s7 edge

Hi Everyone, l have a question about this Magisk Mod and its directed to s7 & s7 edge users. If anyone is using this Mod, may you please tell us how you got it to work, coz l have tried and failed many times. Your help would be kindly appreciated..
King Addies
Root and install xposed.
I have used a stock rom, as it says on the magisk thread and followed all the instuctions and still failed.. lm not really botherd about using the mod anymore, but l made this thread so all the other people who are in my situation can get help or a tutorial on how to install it on s7 & s7 edge. Coz l could not really get much help from the official thread.

I'm using sac23's custom Note 7 port ROM. After installing his ROM, I went to SuperSU, clicked the option for cleanup to install different Super User app. Reboot phone. Then I booted into TWRP, flashed Magisk, then flashed Phh's Super User. Reboot system. Then install Magisk Manager or Auto Magisk app. Activate Auto Magisk under accessibility settings. Works like a dream.

One more step, sorry. You have to also install Phh's SU app from the Google Play store.
Besides Sac23's Note 7 Port Rom, has anyone else tested or used this Mod on any other s7 or s7 edge Rom..

Magisk works fine with any ROM. You just need to use a custom kernel or:
Obtain root using CF - Auto Root
Remove root via SuperSU app
Click No when asked about restoring stock boot.img
Go through the normal Magisk/Phh Superuser steps to install
Only thing I've noticed is that banking apps can still detect that I am rooted. Not sure if this is because I did SuperSU/modified boot.img method. I may try flashing back to stock via ODIN then flashing a custom kernel and install Magisk that way and see.
I've already tried all this. Do you think it's because i've got encrypted device?!
I've tried so many combinations as well... In the end, i have to always restore the stock firmware, run CF-autoroot and xposed normally.
Any ideas why? anyone?!

Encryption isn't the reason, I'm encrypted too.. There isn't really a benefit to it right now anyways. SafetyNet has been updated, you can't pass it with Xposed PERIOD until another bypass is done by the dev.
The key like someone said on a different thread, is to run CF Auto Root, then unroot with SuperSU. Follow the steps from there and you should be good to go but as I've already said, a lot has changed since then. Su-hide isn't working half of the time etc. Better off waiting for them to sort out all the issues first.

Maybe I did have it working then, the only thing I tested it with Pokemon go and it didn't work.. so I just assumed it wasn't working, so I reverted all changes. I spent way too much time than I had hoped

Magisk is pointless right now. Simply having an unlocked bootloader causes SafetyNet to fail. The latest version of magisk also removed the checkbox to turn root on and off. To use Snapchat YOU MUST login before any modifications. Make a titanium backup of Snapchat logged in, then you can restore it whenever you want.

What part of S7/S7Edge do you fail to understand?
Or, boot into TWRP, format data to unencrypt then flash latest magisk and reboot. Once booted, open magisk manager hit menu button and open settings, check magisk hide. Exit settings, open menu and open magisk hide, there you can check any app you want to hide from root. done.

Magisk, SuHide & Others.. What Works, what doesn't?

Hello!
Now after Google seems to be tweaking the hell out of its Safetynet (bootloader check and whatever) I was wondered where this will lead us to. Especially since our devices, at least the Exynos ones come with an unlocked bootloader..
I tried a dozen of combinations from the above named tools without any success, as my mobile banking app seem to rely on that crap now too since it's latest update (I can live without Pokemon go ) it got me all little worried.
What are your experiences, how did you lock out Safetynet, do you guys ignore it? So many questions regarding that topic. Feel free to leave any comment.. :good:
From what I understand all s7 come with bootloader locked by default but on exynos variant, it's unlockable with a "OEM Unlock" toggle in developer option. So normal user who don't root or modified the phone don't affect by new safetynet.
So if you don't need root, you can turn off OEM Unlock and flash back stock rom. But if you need root, there's no known method for now to bypass safetynet.

I've heard they can now detect and block Custom Recovery. I don't think it's true.
I tried that Again now, using Hydra Kernel 1.7.1 without that modified Boot stuff. Removed SuperSu and Xposed, flashed the new Root Free Kernel and safetynet i's Not Flagged. The Main Problem for me (and many others) ist, that the Phone wont Boot after installing SuHide 0.5x! I've used the Not Flagged System as testbase, TWRP doesnt Alter it in any Way, but once i install either Magisk v8 or SuperSu 1.78R1 it gets Flagged Again.. So without SuHide, which doesnt Boot the Phone at All its worthless..

American locked bootloader hide root issues

hope i am not violating any forum rules here, as i know how strict they can be. I am not a noob in this area, ive rooted and flashed all my phones since my droid x on. I miss my s-off HTC so bad. I did 5 minutes of research and thought all Galaxy S7s were bootloader/recovery unlockable...only to find out the american versions arent after im stuck with s Sprint SM-G930P. I was able to root and install xposed with the engineer boot.img and odin. Since TWRP or recovery isnt an option I have tried for months to systemless root this thing to hide root and pass safetynet. Ive tried flashfire to flash SU systemless 2.78SR5 and root switch and am on android 6.0.1 PE1 firmware following guides here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-s7/how-to/sm-g930p-root-t3410604 but after factory reseting and trying Rootswitch (will hide exposed but not root with flashfire installing it since bootloader lock doesnt allow TWRP) I piddled with magisk but I am not on the Equinox unlockable s7 and am just at a loss here. Any one out there know of a way to hide root with this version of S7? Im out of ideas and any help here is appreciated. When i flashfire Supersu i get the locked out modified boot img error, but selecting AP and flashing the engineer boot img will get me back up rooted but root switch is a no go. I can use buildprop/rootzwitch to set selinux permissive sstatus but still fail. I refuse to let samsung not let me root my phone properly. I ser xposed modules like snorlax being updated so there seems to be a way to use xposed modules in PoGo while hiding root/xpised but every guide i see leads to TWRP instructions. Can i adb/terminal install magisk/rootswitch? and stiil use modules? (Cart before the horse question seeing as right now i cant bypass safetynet.) HELP!!
Have you made any more progress with this by chance?
