T-Mobile Carrier Unlock Question - LG V20 Questions & Answers

It looks like the T-Mobile v20 is carrier unlocked via the Device Unlock app. That assumes the phone is eligible for an unlock, which mine is. The problem is that I'm running a custom ROM, and the Device Unlock app doesn't appear to work on anything other than a stock load. That's even running Magisk and confirming that everything is "hidden". I base this assumption only on some stuff I found while searching the forums.
So the obvious solution is to flash back to stock. If that's the only way to do it, fine. It's a pain but I'll do it. Does anyone know if there is an alternative bit of trickery so that it can be done on custom ROMs?
It's not so much the backup/wipe/load/unlock/wipe/restore process I'm trying to avoid. I do that all the time when I want to play with other ROMs. It's the bootloader/recowvery stuff, and plus it looks like the stock image isn't just a standard zip.
I appreciate any input, even if it's just to confirm I have to go back to stock.

as far as I know the bootloader has to be locked for the app to work... I'm always on stock and despite removing root the app would just keep trying to contact the server. it wasn't until I locked the bootloader that the app went through and contacted the server

[Q] I've searched but can't find an answer to these noob questions.

I'm sure this has been asked before, and I read the terms when I signed up for forum.xda-developer.com, watched the videos, etc so I've been hesitant to ask this question. The thing is, after two days of searching, I can't find an answer to these questions that I'm sure a lot of new users have. I'm testing my luck and asking it here.
When I get my Nexus 7 (it's due to be delivered in a couple of days) I want to unlock/root it right away. I know that unlocking the boot loader will wipe the user data, and that it's a "pure" Android device. I don't plan to install any custom ROMs or do anything that wouldn't be possible on that stock device right away, but I want the option to be able to customize in the future. Since unlocking wipes the device, I'd rather just do it right away rather than have to deal with reinstalling a bunch of apps a month or two down the road when I'm ready to try out some custom ROMs, etc.
These are my questions:
1) Is there anything pre-installed on a Nexus 7 that isn't easily recovered after it wipes when unlocking? Followup: Will the pre-installed apps (eg. gmail) still be there after I unlock, or will I need to download them? Should I make a list of the apps that are pre-installed on the device before I unlock the bootloader to make re-installing them easy, or will they still be there?
2) Does unlocking the boot loader really void the warranty? I mean, if my device starts to show some physical problem in a couple of months (eg. screen lift, not charging) can I just re-lock it and send it in? What if it just won't turn on one day, therefore not giving me the ability to re-lock it? If I send it in, unlocked and rooted but bricked (through no fault of my own - I'm talking about a physical problem, if it was my fault I would not even bother trying to get it replaced) will they say "You voided your warranty when you unlocked it"?
Again, sorry for posting questions I'm sure have been asked before, but I just want a precise answer.
Thanks!
EDIT: BTW, I bought it straight from Google Play, I should have mentioned that before

1. itll just wipe away any user data or anything you put into the storage. basically youll just be factory resetting the device.
2. it really depends where youre buying it and whose warranty you are using. i exchanged my original seven a bit more than a month ago, it stopped charging completely. i exchanged it with root, with an unlocked bootloader, with a custom boot animation, with a custom recovery, and with a custom rom and kernel too. there was never an issue if it was unlocked/rooted. it was an obvious hardware issue. i got mine through the google play store. literally after 3 minutes talking to the customer service rep, he had an exchange started for me. google is really good about keeping the warranty if the device unlocked/rooted, if its a hardware issue. i didnt even have to relock/unroot when i sent mine in(after receiving the replacement. that said, other vendors will have issues with warranty exchanges if the device is unlocked. but its as easy to lock the bootloader as it is to unlock it. its as easy to unlock it by typing "fastboot oem unlock" via fastboot, and as easy to lock it typing "fastboot oem lock" to lock it back up.
1. So basically it will still have the pre-installed stuff on it?
2. Awesome, I ordered mine from the play store so that's good to hear.
Thanks for the info, you rock!

yes, nothing changes unless you change the rom you are using to a custom rom. then you get whatever that rom developer decided to include. but if its google apps, you can always pick them up from the play store or from flashable "gapps".

Cool. Thanks for that. Like I said I'm not going to change the ROM right away, I just don't want to deal with restarting because of an unlock in a month .

Unlock Samsung Note 3 Vodafone UK

Hello,
I tried several things to unlock my phone, unfortunately, unsuccessfuly.
I use the Sim Unlock code provided by Vodafone : no chance
I rooted the phone and tried Region Lock Away or the Sim Unlock Samsung app, no chance either. I think that the phone is rooted properly but everytime an app request root access, it times out.
I am running out of (good) idea. Any pointer would be very helpful!
Thanks
David
Are you trying all of these thing while running a stock ROM?
I had the same problem with t-mobile in America. It was because I was using a custom rom. I backed up my phone, installed a "stock rooted rom" and was then unable to unlock the sim. Then I used my backup to restore my phone back to the custom rom. Good luck.
I used Odin 3.04 then I install CWM recovery on it.
I tried to unlock the phone before rooting it but it didn't work which is why I try to root it, nothing works... What is a stock rom ? I only want to sim unlock it really, i dont need / want it rooted specifically
What is a stock rom
Stock as in standard firmware as supplied by Samsung .
This all assumes you have a custom rom installed.
You can return your phone to stock (maybe) but it's kind of a pain.
It seems easier to flash a stock rooted rom, which is similar enough to stock to fix your problem.
Google "stock rooted rom vodafone note 3" or maybe just N9005XXUGBOA5_N9005VFGGBOA2 seems to be what you are looking for {actually that appears to be the stock file that you can flash with odin and mostly re-stock your phone.... not sure if it will accomplish what you need}.

OK2 Carrier Unlock & ROM Questions

I've got a S4 AT&T running OK2 with root and it ran my AirVoice Wireless SIM perfectly fine for a month while I researched and got a new phone. I'd now like to use it as a backup phone with a FreedomPOP SIM but it's giving me grief about "SIM network unlock PIN". This is the carrier lock correct? I found a tutorial that has you go into the Service Mode and turn off NETWORK LOCK. This tutorial doesn't seem to work (missing the options) in OK2. Do I have to downflash to 4.2.2 in order to get these options? If so, how do I go about doing that? I put OK2 with root on this phone but that process took 2 days and with all the mixed info out there and different versions, it's confusing to say the least.
My other question is, I tried flashing TWRP (jflteatt) and I believe I ended up with the "software not authorized by AT&T" error. Doing some reading, it looks like this may be due to not using a loki'd TWRP?
Any pointers/tips would be much appreciated. All this Samsung stuff is way over my head despite having rooted, recoveried and rom'd maybe a dozen Android devices. I much prefer LG and Moto

Yeah you're carrier locked. I think you can only downgrade to NB1 from OK2, not sure you can carrier unlock on NB1 or not. As for installing TWRP you can't due to the locked bootloader. You can only use safe strap recovery and boot only custom touch wiz roms. Loki only works on the MDB and MDL bootloaders, once you've upgraded the bootloader past MDL, you can't go back.
If the AT&T phone is like the i337m and m919, you may be able to flash down to 4.4.2, flash a 4.2.2 modem, root, run regionlockaway, upgrade modem back to 4.4.2.
Thanks for the replies. I grabbed NB1 from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2616221
and flashed it via Odin. All went well but when it came time to follow various instructions I found online, they either yielded no unlock or the options weren't in the menu. I don't think the free unlock trick via the service menu works on 4.4.2/NB1.
I researched a bit more and feel very stupid with one of the results that came up... AT&T offers online unlocking of their devices and you don't even have to be one of their customers! I figured I could go to one of their retail stores but also figured they would deny me since I'm not a customer. I'll be jiggered though, here it is: https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/
Slapped my IEMI in with my e-mail and in less than an hour or so, I got my unlock code for free. AT&T said they would e-mail it but I checked back on the status page and found the code there. Hopefully this helps other people.
So, moving forward now, is OK2 the best I can do with a locked bootloader? I ran it for a while but I found that I burned through my data real quick because when I would leave my WiFi coverage and come back, it would reconnect but for some reason wouldn't actually use WiFi (data was still on, had the 4G icon) until I restarted the phone. Basically, every time I left and came back home, I had to restart my phone. Is this a known issue, did I botch something in the install process? I may make another thread for this.
*EDIT*
Running OK2 for a while, I no longer have the WiFi issues I had before. Doing some thinking, I can only attribute the issue to either incorrectly followed steps the first time around flashing OK2 or the use of the debloater script found in the OK2 downloads thread. I've been using Link2SD to remove system apps and so far haven't removed anything that has affected WiFi.

Locking bootloader on US variant xt1806

I went to switch to a different carrier, and was on cricket, and also tried tmobile both wich worked fine unlocked bootloader and rooted.
I then switched to sprint, and verizon and found out both carriers the phone would not work right. The data worked but the call and texting did not.
As a side note, I was informed by someone who was on sprint, and he said that you had to get on the network unrooted and locked bootloader, once registered you could then root and get the bootloader unlocked and be just fine.
So I then proceeded to unroot the phone ie: removing everything root, and keeping twrp with an unocked bootloader only, no sign of root. I took the phone back to the stores and tried again, and the phone still had the same issue.
After finally finding a way to finally after 6mo lock the bootloader again, and was at pure stock, locked bootloader and no root.
What this tells me is that some how verizon and sprint both some how some way detect an unlocked bootloader....how? I have no clue, I've never in my 5+ years of rooting multiple phones, never ever ever seen anything like this. The only reason I know this is what it was, is from common deduction and reasoning.........unroot = still doesn't work.....locked bl = works fine with not a single issue. Keep in mind this was all with base stock rom, not a custom rom.....everything was stock, accept for the root and un;ocked bootloader part. I rooted with magisk.
Since I had a very long time and issue with locking the bootloader, (about 6mo) after trying a ton of things, without resolve, I FINALLY got the bootloader locked.
If it's going to be anything like before trying to get it locked again to work on sprint and verzion, I really do not want to bother with unlocking it to begin with. It was an utter nightmare to get locked, no matter what I tried it just would not lock for whatever reason.
So given all that, my question is, how hard or easy is it now to unlock and lock the bootloader?

Flashing Custom Roms on Oneplus6T

hi guys,
Ive been using stock rom since i purchased this phone.
Thinking of flashing some custom roms. but i have few questions in my mind. Hope you guys can advice me on that.
- Can i use a custom rom without Root ? My interntion is to use banking apps without any problem. Not really interested in in using Magisk to hide the root status.
- i have a manually enabled call recording on my Oneplus6T. Do i get this feature working on any custom rom ?
- I undestand that i need to unlock my bootloader to flash custom roms, so in case if i want to revert back to stock rom in future , will it break any security mechanism of the phone?
Please advise.
- Yes you can run a custom rom without root. You can even lock your bootloader with a custom ROM (WARNING, you can just lock your bootloader, it's a whole process, DO NOT just do this. Research first!). That being said, I would venture to say many banking apps would take issue with custom ROMs even if you aren't rooted. However I don't use them, so I can't say this for certain.
- Yes call recording works in (some) custom ROMs.
- Unlock your bootloader, won't harm anything. You can always go back to stock. If you want to completely go back to stock you should be able to just run the MSMTool and it should put your phone back exactly as it was out of the box. It reloads the stock software, and relocks the bootloader.
