AT&T Galaxy S7 Edge (G935A) on Sprint? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

I got a brand new AT&T S7 Edge (G935A) and requested the unlock code to AT&T. I have a few questions I was hoping someone could answer:
1- Once unlocked, would it work on Sprint?
2- If it would work, would I face any constraints such as no LTE, higher than normal battery consumption, loss of features, etc.?
3- If it would nor work, would it work if I flashed the Sprint stock ROM and in this case, what is the most current and where to find it?
4- Any suggestions or advice?
Thank you all in advance.

I just came back from sprint and they couldn't make my phone work, systems says it's not supported.
Same thing as yours, G935A unlocked using unlock code provided by At&t as the phone was paid in full.
Not sure what to do now?!

I have tried this several times using odin3 to flash U variant firmware and either get and error on phone reboot or the following error most recently. Not that file analysis will take from 30 to 60 seconds and this indicates that it is not going to succeed. Also I have the APK1 SW on G935A. Not sure if the APK1 causes the problem. The phone unlock code was obtained from AT&T and worked. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried calling/chatting with Sprint & providing your 935A's IMEI number to try to add your phone into Sprint's network? Also, where did you get the Sprint SIM card from? AFAIK, the SIM card has to be a newer type in order to support newer Sprint phones.

I am in the same boat. I went to sprint and ask them to add G935A's IMEI number into their network and it's system is not taking . Any suggestions.

Sprint uses CDMA, AT&T phones doesn't have cdma, that's why doesn't work

Based on the specs of the Spring Galaxy S7 Edge, Sprint seems to operate both on CDMA and GSM. See here
So, the question is: installing a carrier neutral ROM (from the G935U) on an unlocked G935A and configuring the APN to Sprint's specifications (see below), wouldn't it work?
Name: APN2 LTE Internet
APN: n.ispsn
MMSC: http://mms.sprintpcs.com
Multimedia message proxy: 68.28.31.7
Multimedia message port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 000 // Do Not CHANGE!
APN type: default,supl,mms,dun,fota
APN Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN roaming protocol: IPv4/IPv6
Bearer: LTE

But why Sprint is not taking IMEI into their system?

In the same boat. Bought the SM-G935A outright. Got it sim-unlocked by AT&T. Flashed it with the SM-G935U rom. Sprint won't activate it because it's not in their system. None of the reps seem to know how to add it to their system. Makes no sense. ALL S7's sold in the US have the exact same hardware. This phone should work with Sprint without any issue. The SM-G935U firmware has support for all Sprint bands.
This appears to be all on Sprint's side. Their janky provisioning system won't add new devices.

Did any of you guys ever manage to connect to sprint using the at&t s7 edge??? I've been trying and have had no luck. I even got an SIM unlock key to work and nothing.

It won't work. Sprint doesn't let you change phones by simply changing sim cards. You have to add it to the sprint database and it won't accept the at&t number.

When You get into Recovery mode what do you see? What is the ROM version displayed? For example for Sprint you will see PU5QJ3 or PU5QK1 at the end of the name/version for the latest ROM and my guess you are seeing it has a 4. If you try overwriting with a 4 from a 5 then it will fail no matter what. I think it's an update to the chipset in the phone itself. A firmware update. Coming from ATT maybe try downloading the last version with PU4 in the name/version. Then take it to the store and have them convert it.

Have you tried using odin with a pit file? It worked with b3 and b4. Haven't tried it between b4 and b5

Can a G935A work on sprint? I think it is a GSM only phone. Sprint uses CDMA. I know the G935U has both CDMA and GSM and will work for most carriers in the US. If sprint had GSM, I would buy a oneplus in a heartbeat lol

Yeah from what ivevread over the last few wweeks, it seems that it has the proper radios for sprint cdma, but sprint themselves wouldn't add the phone to their system.

It looks like a lot of people are having the same issues on the sprint forum as well. from what I saw the reps are getting a lock error when adding the unlocked at&t phones. I am not sure if maybe at&t has them locked somewhere, sprint's database sucks, or something else. Sprint techs tend to give up pretty quickly when it comes to unlocked phones. Have you tried going to your sprint account and activating the phone on the site your self?
If all else fails, I would try to see if you can switch it out with a factory unlock version. If you bought the phone less than a year ago, you maybe able to persuade Samsung to swap it out since it has a one year warranty with them.
UPDATE: Looking at the sprint site, the special edition s7 and s7 edge are the only compatible unlocked phones for sprint. Since it does not state the at&t version sprint will give you issues trying to port that phone over.

Switch Firmware,

Hello, xda_developers.
I just got mail S7 Unlocked in the mail that I ordered from eBay, I believe it was a sweet deal CAD $549.99 + tax. I am with Telus BTW. Let's get to the point.
The phone is with Sprint which has bloatware and APN is locked out. I want to flash a new firmware onto the phone without Tripping the Knox. I looked into the 930U Firmware but don't know which one to pick. I looked into the thread: "Bloat free firmware 930U....anyone tried it?" and saw the part about root, so I backed out.
After I looked into the Sprint SM-G930P firmware and saw few different "Regions": SPR, XAS, and VMU. I found"SPR" is Sprint, and "VMU" is Virgin Mobile USA. For "XAS" I am not too sure, but "XAS image has the APN section unlocked". ("Here" )
Afterwards, I found the forum "Found a code...interesting...." and used the code "##BRAND#" and removed the Sprint boot logo, and some bloatware but the APN was still locked out, and still had "Hands-Free Activation".
I need help picking the right Firmware for my phone, which will let me add APN, and remove the "Hands-Free Activation". I do not want or need to root the phone.
The phone is up to the latest update:
Software Version: SG930PVPS2APG1 ,
Hardware version: REV0.6 ,
Baseband version: G930PVPS2APG1 ,
Build number: MMB29M.G930PVPS2APG1 .
I did not want to flash firmware without knowing for sure it will not brick the phone, brand new phone in a long time, I don't want to break it or brick it on the first day.
Aswell, I am not sure if I can flash a Canadian firmware, SM-G930W8 or the Global Firmware, SM-G930F.
Thank you for reading, hope you can help me out.

The 930U firmware will work perfectly fine without root. No bloatware and you can modify the APN's.

the 930U firmware is bloatware free, and I don't have to root the phone? Also does it have the "Hands-Free Activation" or the "Activate this device" in Settings?
It's bloatware free and it doesn't require root. And when I flashed...it simply activated my device and there's no activate device in settings.

alright, thank you very much.
Going to go flash it now
edit: Quick Update, went to flash the G930U files(firmware?) and it all went smoothly. Takes time to register onto network. any fix without root?
edit 2: Just did a factory reset from recovery, seems to have fixed the slow network register
edit 3: The phone seems to run warmer than the sprint firmware, no idea why
Never mind, I am, an idiot.

Congrats on the phone! That is a good deal considering the phone goes for 899 brand new, and I'd assume around 600-750. But with black listing these days I wouldn't trust Kijiji etc.
Your phone should work fine except for LTE. Its missing I believe 2-3 bands for LTE but on the plus side it's the bands that bell/Telus don't really use much like 2600. So if you ever see soneone else have LTE and not you that would be why but, then again the bands you don't have usually are for rural areas
Enjoy the phone

Thank you very much. It's a pretty nice deal, still going on I believe. I don't have to worry about the blacklist. Even without the 2600 band data works great, really don't mind not having a few LTE bands, for the price i got the phone for. With the 930U firmware, it works great.

The U firmware has more/better LTE bands enabled than the Sprint (P) firmware. I strongly doubt it's missing any LTE bands used in Canada.

I believe your correct with the U firmware It shouldn't be missing a band or 2 like it is on the Sprint firmware. But yes about the same price as you'd get it on Kijiji (since there's tax) but it's new and don't have to worry about the blacklist

FWIW - here are the bands that are apparently supported in the 930U firmware. This is band priority list from the LTE section of the ##DATA# menu. Not sure which bands Canada uses, but it looks like the only major one missing might be band 17?

I think the Canadian networks may have started using MFBI on band 12 (like AT&T has). If so then B17 would no longer be necessary in Canada. The best place to verify this might be to post a question about it on the Bell and Rogers forums on Howardforums.

Did the actual flash fail, or did one or more of the MD5 checks fail? What version of Odin did you use? If any of the MD5 checks failed, you just need to download the firmware again - your download was corrupted. If the actual flash failed, the most common cause is the USB cable/connection. Try another USB cable, and/or another USB port on your computer, and don't move the phone or computer around while it's flashing. Odin is very temperamental if the connection is not perfect.

I'm confused too. Are you wanting to use it on Sprint or T-Mobile? Do you have a sprint account, and did your phone activate on Sprint? I don't have any experience using a non-Sprint sim with this phone/firmware. The only thing I can suggest it maybe do a factory reset and go through the setup/activation with the T-Mobile sim already in the phone. Good luck.
If you're wanting to use both Sprint and T-Mobile on this phone, I'm not sure if that's possible. From what I've read elsewhere, even though this firmware is unlocked, it can only be active on one carrier at a time. I don't think you can switch back and forth at will, without activating/deactivating from one carrier to the other. I could be wrong though, as I have not used anything but my original Sprint sim.

T-Mobile (SM-G935T) firmware on Sprint S7 Edge (SM-G935P)?

Got the phone unlocked and was wondering if it was safe to flash the SM-G935T firmware variants on the Sprint S7 Edge. Plan on using this phone on T-Mobiles network.
I know people have converted their SM-G935P to SM-G935U but I can only find the 6.01 version of that. SM-G935T has the 7.0 version (nougat variant)
It will work. All USA Snapdragon variants are identical in hardware (CDMA and GSM ready). When you flash your desired rom, it's the corresponding modem that will dictate whether CDMA or GSM bands will be used.
I'm running TMO 7.0 Nougat rom on SM-G935V (Verizon branded S7E) right now.
But if you do a BYOD and type in the imei # at the carrier website to go to VZW or Sprint it will say invalid if a gsm device how do you get around that?

Flashing my Sprint phone to T-Mobile did not change the IMEI. Keep in mind Sprint phones are locked and you'll need to have it unlocked before switching carriers. You can also make up an IMEI.. it does not matter on T-Mobile, you just order a SIM and put it in the phone. There is no legacy tie in to the IMEI like Sprint uses on their antiquated CDMA network.
Thanks everyone,. Just flashed and is working great.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but this is somewhat related. I am selling a T-Mobile G935T, which has been carrier unlocked by T-Mobile. Just had someone ask if they can use it on Boost (which is the Sprint MVNO, correct?)
If it will work on Boost, can I leave the T-Mo firmware on it, or should I flash the G935U firmware?

The only issue i can see is that Sprint works with CDMA and Tmobile is GSM, so if Boost uses the Sprit CDMA then your G935T wont work on Boost either way. If the phone will work on Boost, then it shouldn't matter if you have the tmobile firmware on it or the G935U firmware both will work. Having the G935U firmware might make it nicer since you wont have all the unnecessary tmobile apps on the phone.

I don't have my tmobile s7 edge any more so I can't fully test it. I just tried something similar with a sprint s7 edge. My sprint s7 edge would not work on verizon at all, but I just flashed the verizon firmware to test it out, and now it works great on verizon. So you might be right about the s7 edge being like the s8 plus with the same hardware and there is something in the firmware that blocks other carriers.

Lycamobile MVNO GSM on Sprint S7 SM-G935P solved with SM-G935T
Thanks to this thread I was able to resolve a 6-week issue in using my S7 Edge Sprint phone with a GSM MVNO service. Sprint did not unlock the phone per request, even though they said they did. Unlocked on Nougat 7.0 using http://idoneapps.com, great service!
After unlocking, put Lycamobile SIM in and set Mobile Networks to GSM/UMTS (LTE doesn't work for phone calls). Service was poor. No images for SMS, no SMS group messages, no mobile hotspot, long call delays, etc. Frustrating. Read in this thread you could install t-mobile ROM using ODIN 3.1.2 onto phone.
I was on: G935PVPU4BQD2_G935PVPU4BQD2_G935PSPT4BQD2_SPR and changed to: T-MOBILE SM-G935T. Nothing special to ROM, used CSC instead of HOME_CSC file.
After reboot, added APN's for Lycamobile and voila! LTE/4G/3G icon appeared, SMS features all worked and mobile hotspot available! Call service improved significantly too. No more issues. Basically this proves that the phone is hardware equivalent to T-Mobile and you can ROM it and enable GSM capabilities. Sprint's software locks down GSM features and makes usage/features work horribly. I hope this helps out some of you out there that run into the same situation.
Hey all, just read through this thread and had some hope of flashing the latest T-Mobile ROM to my G935P thats DSU Unlocked from Sprint and currently using Mintsim as my carrier. I had stock sprint rom with QK1 update (the latest from Sprint, came out a few days ago) and just tried flashing QJ2 T-Mobile Rom only to get this:

anyone know what I can do to get T-Mobile ROM working? My service is a bit shaky on the Sprint ROM =/ and I'd love to use an Unlocked ROM but it seems I'm SOL as Unlocked ROM is Binary 4 and my sprint update is Binary 5 with no downgrade path in sight =/ thanks in advance!

at&t to verizon

I just picked up a used s7 edge from a at&t customer, every thing that I could find said once unlocked it would work on any network. I unlocked it via at&t, checked that it works on an at&t sim and Tmobile but it is not working on my Verizon sim and their techs can get it to work either.
Will an At&t s7 edge work on a Verizon network? if so how? Or should I find a different phone?
Thanks
Andy
That is an interesting question. I believe all the US based Snapdragon S7 and S7 Edges have the same hardware, so you would just need to flash Verizon or unlocked firmware over the AT&T image. That part is confirmed, as people have gone from V to U and A, and A to U and V. If I were you, I'd probably go for the unbranded firmware, but that's a personal preference.
The real trick is getting Verizon to properly provision it.
At&t is gsm and Verizon is cdma not compatible with cdma you need to give carrier imei that's how cdma works not just with SIM card
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using XDA-Developers Legacy app
The US (Snapdragon) S7 and S7 edge share the same physical hardware. There is a better than average chance that if he flashes the U or V firmware, and can get Verizon to put on their network, it will fly.

Question: to convert from one firmware to another do I have to install U first? I want to convert my G935T to G935A to be able to use wi-fi calling. My phone is unlocked and everything works on At&t except for wi-fi calling (Or VoLte as I see it referred to often)

If this is your first device with AT&T to support WiFi calling, you may have to get a new SIM (or get your current SIM provisioned correctly).
So are you saying I don't need to install the G935A firmware?

Strange Network Issues With Unlocked SM-G935P (Sprint) on MetroPCS

Hey guys, I could use a little help here. I've done some firmware flashing on phones years ago, so I'm not a total noob, just haven't needed to in a long time.
Anyway, I recently picked up an unlocked Sprint S7 edge (was a really good deal) and I'm trying to use it with Metro now. The issue is this. If I set the network to GSM mode, I can make phone calls just fine, but data is totally not functioning. If I switch it to LTE/CDMA mode, the data works beautifully, but I can't make or receive any phone calls. It just instantly hangs up if I try to dial out or goes to voicemail if someone calls me.
I've activated the IMEI with my carrier and verified that the phone is indeed unlocked. I'm guessing this is just some annoying Sprint bug put in there to make the phone not work right on other providers. Any ideas what needs to be done? Do I need to run a third-party ROM, flash a different modem to it? Something else?
I really appreciate any tips here.
What firmware is the phone running?

Hi Ivpre,
Thanks for responding. The phone is running Software version G935PVPU6BRD2, baseband version G935PVPU6BRD2, it's HW revision 7.0 and Android 7.0. Kernel version is 3.18.31-12623509.
I've tried using a few SM-G935U ROMs but they all have failed so far and left the phone in a boot loop. Only by reflashing a Sprint ROM am I able to successfully flash it.
I assume I'm just not selecting or finding a ROM that the same or newer version, as I've read about the downgrade issues with the bootloader. Any idea how to match one? I'd be fine with pretty much any ATT/T-Mobile/Metro ROM since that should fix my issue for the time being. A factory unlocked ROM would be nice though.
I have a T-Mobile Sim (same network Metro uses) in my unlocked Sprint S7 Edge. Network mode is set to Automatic and everything works fine.
Did you Add the APN for T-Mobile? I had to add the T-Mobile APN https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-28006
And the ALSO add a second APN named internet, with no other values changed. The 2nd one is the one selected, not sure why, but it works that way.
I would like to flash a T-Mobile Rom or the U Rom but they are on Baseband 4, which will not work since our phones are now on Baseband 6(5th number from the right in the firmware version.)
Did you try changing the APN settings?

So you are using the Sprint firmware on T-Mobile? Everything works well? I'm thinking of jumping to cricket this summer, but one phone is stuck on b5 (the other is still rocking 4), so I was a little worried. So basically you just put in the SIM card and added the APN's?

Yes it was working fine with a T-Mobile Sim card and edited APN's. It is now back on Sprint because T-Mobile coverage is poor/non existent inside my work. I will be porting one of my SERO lines to T-Mobile but keeping one with Sprint. T-Mobile only uses Band 2 and 4 where I live, If you live somewhere that has band 12, it may not be unlocked in the Sprint Firmware.

G935U vs. G935U (AT&T)

https://www.phonemore.com/compare/p...5u-vs-samsung-galaxy-s7-edge-sm-g935a/5532054
The above link indicates the G935U phone as having more radio bands than the G935A
I am confused if I flash my S7 Edge G935V to the G935U (AT&T) do I end up with exactly the
same radio bands as a G935A or do I have the bands of the G935U as shown on this site?
Where I was told to download the 935U firmware I see no choice other than pick a 935U for a specific carrier as for
example AT&T. However the G935U on the above list has more GSM bands than the G935A.
Can someone clear this up for me?
Thank you,
Ken
All of the US variants have identical hardware - as in, there is physically no difference between an Unlocked, AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint device. You can swap between all the carrier firmware versions (and the unlocked variant) at will with the right version of ODIN. Obviously, Verizon and Sprint make it a bit harder to bring a "foreign" device over, but if you could get it registered, your A device with V or S firmware would work.
HOWEVER, each carrier customizes their devices for their networks, and one of those modifications is to turn off support for channels that they don't support. If you look at the missing channels, you will see that AT&T doesn't use them. Thus, the A firmware turns them off. (This also keeps you from taking an unmodified AT&T device to Verizon - which uses 13 for their LTE)
I haven't tried, but I believe installing the U firmware should restore those frequencies.
https://www.phonemore.com/compare/p...5u-vs-samsung-galaxy-s7-edge-sm-g935a/5532054
2 phones are shown. 935U on the left and 935A on the right.
The 935U has more network bands. But it doesn't say if it is AT&T, T-mobile associated like all the download firmware
I have been looking at.
Is there a different version of firmware for the 935U shown in the link? If I install the 935U (AT&T)firmware do I end up with a AT&T
with no bloatware and less bands than the 935U (Left side) in the link?
This has me puzzled. I would prefer the bands to the one on the left side. It would appear to me
to be more compatible with GSM along with it retaining all its CDMA capabilities as well.
Could use some help clearing this one up.
Thanks
Ken

I decided to go for it. The first to attempts led to a FAIL. The 1st FAIL put the phone into a boot loop. The second try FAIL.
I tried the latest ODIN with a Patch. This time it worked and all went well.
What I am so far is a little disappointed the CDMA feature no long exists like it did as a 935V.
I was hoping that was not the case with the 935U firmware. The good news is I am now connected to band 12.
On the final boot up after flashing the phone instantly found AT&T band 12 and it also automatically added the correct
APN settings for straight talk with their AT&T sim. There was also a couple AT&T APNs and 2 straight talk APNs.
The one chose as default is working with text messages. I have not tried sending a text with video yet.
Thanks to all who offered me a little hand holding during this process. It was a little scary especially when the phone
starting the boot looping thing but I just tried again and on the 3rd try with the patched version of ODIN it worked.

Help describing this firmware and its features.
On this site I found this firmware
https://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?record=05B44581906411E89F15FA163EE8F90B
The Product code is Product Code USC and when I did a search on it I found it to be
USA unbranded. The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge G935U has CDMA and GSM capabilities with more
GSM bands than the G935A. Would anyone know any info on this firmware and what you end
up with when flashed to a S7 Edge?
Thanks,
Ken
