I have an xda II and have noticed that the tasks section of the Today screen is missing. I have checked all the Today screen settings and it doesn't appear there. Where has it gone :?:
puzzled, coj
p.s. In addition to the normal apps I am running codecity citytime, ms theme switcher and omega one battery bar and program bar on the today screen
Too many Today Apps
It's possible that you're running too many today plugins - there's a limit of something like 12 - if you install anything more than that the system bumps one off the list. You need to uninstall one that you don't use and the Tasks item will pop back onto the list after a soft reset.
I had a similar problem when I installed alarmToday - had to get rid of my Calendar+ item and use the system Calendar one instead.
Hope this helps.
Steve.
(ps. Most Today items require a 'twice' uninstall - one to get them off the Today list, then a soft reset and another uninstall to remove them completely)
Muchas Gracias
Excellent, thank you for that pearl of wisdom, worked perfectly.
Slightly different issue: Task Icon Missing from Program Bar
In the first few days with my XDA-II, I loaded many apppications to test - including several launchers before settling on Battery Pack 2004/Program Bar
In spite of dozens of soft resets, and more than one hard reset, at some point the list of applications that could be launched by Program Bar suddenly lost the "tasks" option & tick icon and I cannot get it back.
I think it went while trying one of the other launcher applications, because I'm sure it used to be there, and it shows up on most vendors screen shots of their products, but I cannot understand why it hasn't returned even after the hard resets.
It's not a major problem, as I have the tasks item on the Today screen anyway, and I can treat Tasks as a user-defined item in Program Bar by giving the file link (although it doesn't pick up the "tick" icon) - but it just irritates me that it seems to have vanished!
Any ideas on how to get it back.
Thanks
Is there any way to get rid of them or to make them transparent?
Something I have tried time and time again to find out. There was a program called Pocket Facelift, which either got rid of them or cloned the today screen and superimposed an image over the top without the lines. I've searched for registry entries, hacks and cracks. Everything. Never been able to find it.
I still wish someone would produce a low memory footprint version of a screen that say the later Nokias and Samsungs have, where all the information about the phone is held in the corners (battery, SMS, signal, etc), leaving the rest of the screen for the picture (without lines).
Cheers

Anton.Valleyman: when you say "low memory", I guess WDA is out of the question
I hadn't seen Facelift before. The page seems to suggest that Facelift may be a replacement Today plugin host:
Today screen scrolling is fully supported. The today screen plugins are resized in order to avoid covering information by the scroll bar.

Resizing Today plugins requires some messy coding or hosting plugins yourself. That might explain how they get rid of the seperator lines - if you host the plugins yourself, you obviously don't have to draw the lines... that's just a theory though!

My unreleased VJEphemeris is entirely skinnable, and I'm trying to design it around a thumb friendly design. I want to use the corners in the way you described... but your idea is a good one, a nice clean full screen today plugin just showing basics, operator logo and a wallpaper is a nice idea...
For the lines, I just suggest you choose a color similar to your background. I use a plain white wallpaper, so easy for me
It might be feasible to do some hairy hacking to subclass the today screen and intercept the line drawing function, but I don't recommend it as an easy solution

Dear All
I have an HTC TYTN mobile after an hardware reset on the screen in the left a vertical line is appear .The line is not alway visible , it 's depend from the desktop colour, for example with blue colour i don't see it but with the red one is present. Someone have an idea of what's happen

How about a screenshot? What kind of hardware reset? Do you mean a hard reset which you erased all the personal data and installed programs?
Yes, a hard reset where i delete all the data
I have made a skin for S2U2 to match the HD home screen including the tab bar background. However as you can see in the attached pic the clock never positions itself acuratly and is always shifting left or right depending which numbers are displayed. How can I make the numbers always lay within the boundary of the white squares? Where is the coding which tells the positioning of the numbers relative to the screen (x, y coordinates)? Or is it the png files are wrong size?
Any help would be appreciated and will share once fixed.
I Have the same problem but only with the times between 0 and 9:59..
As you can see on the Thumbnails..
I also would be very thankfull for any help..
I've done a similar thing but not for the HD (I don't have mine yet!)
On my Hermes I exeperienced the problem you're having with it not aligning at certain times of the day.
I tried it on a Touch Dual (Nike) and it works perfectly. Quite odd.
I've got a screen ready to go for as soon as I get my HD which should hopefully be next week.....
i don't have my HD yet but i think if you changed time format in the lang.ini file to HH':'mm your problem will be solved, it seems currently it is set to H':'mm !.
hope this will help.
I have tried different time formats. Same problem. Some times its in alignment and some times its not. It all depends on what time it is.
finally i have my HD and as i mentioned before just change the time format and have no problem at all!
here is my lang.ini file attched if you want to try it. after you replace your old one just go to settings and change the time format as ( HH':'mm )
can you dudes post the black hd skin ?
thanks
I am experiencing a rather frustrating problem here. When I change the volume in HTC's audiomanager, it appears a grey column on the left side of the screen (see pic) instead of the green overlay in the middle of the screen as it should be.
What is the problem here and how can I solve this? IMHO, there is a PNG missing. But where do I find that PNG and where should that be stored on my device?
I just found another user with the same problem

It seems that by installing A_Brians WM6.5 Taskbar gfreek edition, I did change HTCVolumeControl.dll.
I will try to change it back to the original DLL.
OK, I have reinstalled the original DLL from the ROM using SKTools, after changing HKLM\Software\HTC\VolumeOverlay\OverlayUI from 0 to 1 the grey column has disappeared, but the overlay stays also disapeared.
I'm having the same problem. I think it has something to do with the custom taskbar you have installed. I installed a custom taskbar myself and it caused my music volume graphic to disappear too. I beleive it has something to do with HTCVolumeControl.dll which has been changed. I re-installed it but it made no difference. If anyone has a solution to this, it would be much appreciated.
Happy New Year!!
*EDIT* Snap! It looks like you found the problem at exactly the same time I posted this. Spooky!!!! If you find a solution to the problem, please post it here. Thanks.
Well I simply gave up after long horus of REG tweaking and changing files from the ROM and from the internet to get it back.
I hard resetted the Phone yesterday and voila, the volume overlay is back. It's an awfully dirty procedure, because I spent half of the night and a few hours today to get all Programs and Settings back. Unfortunately I had only backed up the whole system (including that overlay problem), so the backup was not very helpful at all.
I remember reading, I think its to do with that taskbar you have installed, I had it and had the same problem, now I dont (hard resetted) and my music bar is sorted
I uninstalled the taskbar. No change.
Then I tried to get HTCVolumeControl.DLL back from ROM, no change.
I treid to install a HTCVolumeControl.DLL from the Internet, no change. Well, there was a change here. I had WM Volume control suddenly. You know, the black and white control bars at the top right corner we all remeber from WM5.
Then I gave up.
