IT LOOKS SO GOOD

If you type UHD on Netflix you should get all the 4K titles and HDR. I learned that from a Netflix's rep.

No HDRR option for me yet with this apk.

Thanks for sharing. Also Seeing HDR option here with this APK.
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/netfli...tflix-5-0-1-build-16103-android-apk-download/
If you don't see HDR make sure you have Netflix "Premium" Plan enabled.

HDR shows but when you play the content its not rendering it in HDR mode (with proper color gamut) so all colors are washed........samsung or netflix needs to update something so that it triggers hdr mode on the phone itself
EDIT - Colors seem ok now actually...but still unclear if HDR mode is properly triggered since there's no notification (like many TVs do when HDR kicks in)

No HDR for me with this apk, and yes I have the premium plan ?

The update only supports Dolby Vision HDR, and Samsung only supports HDR10, so it won't work at this point.

Weird it only shows hd for me, are u using snapdragon or exynos

HDR only available on LG6 for now
Also even tho you might see HDR label it wont play HDR if you dont have a ultra4k plan (HDR label would need to be whiteish not greyed out)
also not available outside US

Netflix has change App in 18,5:9 Format in Build 5.0.4. But im not sure. Have tried it with Build 5.03 too, but dont know if it was 16:9 or 18.5:9 Format in Stream. I dont remember me.

hi i had the xperia xz premium which streamed 4k hdr but now i have the galaxy s8 plus and its not streaming hdr it it not supported yet in the netflix app for the s8
thanks

Galaxy S8 & S8+ will NEVER PLAY HDR MOVIES ON NETFLIX!
Ok lets just kill this rumor once & for all, the only phones that play HDR on Netflix is LG G6, LG V30, Galaxy Note 8, & the new Sony Xperia 4K phone! Thats it thats all PERIOD! Now I own a Galaxy S8 Im pissed off! But I no now why my phone or the Galaxy S8+ will never play HDR on Netflix see Netflix plays HDR in HDR10 & Dolby Vision & are beloved Galaxy S8 & S8+ have Mobile HDR! Yes some made up bull**** that no one in the movie industry uses!! So either Netflix adopts the Mobile HDR standard(Never going to happen)or Samsung sends a OTR update for HDR10(Aint going to happen)were more or less screwed! So there stop with the apk says HDR cuz Netflix said that's just a bug no HDR for us S8 users!

Lol please do your research before coming here spewing false info. Theres no such thing as hdr10 and dolby vision. There are 2 different standards. HDR10 has been adopted by samsung while dolby vision is used by LG and other manufacturers are using either. NETFLIX and Amazon have both formats so thats not the issue..

So I'm assuming since I only see HD Netflix doesn't support HDR?

HDR10 is an open source industry standard. Most services like netflix and such will adopt and use it. Dolby Vision is a proprietary tech made by Dolby Labs. You typically need another processing chip to get Dolby Vision to work unless your device (IE TV, Phone, 4k Blu-Ray player etc) already has enough horsepower to do the additional processing. Then its just a firmware update if they pay for the licensing of the Dolby Tech.
On topic, Netflix's website states they will deliver titles in HDR10 and Dolby Vision. They list the Samsung Note 8 as capable of HDR10 playback. So question is, if the Note 8 can do it, why cant the S8 Plus? Don't they share the same screen tech and processors? Only difference between the two would be a small screen size increase and 2GBs of more RAM. Not totally sure why HDR10 does not work on S8 Plus.
Quote from netflix's page:
Streaming Netflix in HDR and Dolby Vision requires Netflix app version 5.0 for Android.
Netflix is available in Dolby Vision on the Android phones below.
Note: Devices must run the latest firmware for Dolby Vision playback to work properly.
LG G6

As already mentioned before, the Galaxy S8(+) does not support Dolby Vision nor does it support HDR10. The S8(+) supports "Mobile HDR Premium", you can google it. It seems Samsung learned their lesson and they added support for HDR10 with the Galaxy Note 8. That´s why you can watch HDR content from Netflix on a Note 8.
So the question would be if we could enjoy HDR with a ROM ported from Note 8? Since there are several good ones here on XDA, maybe someone running such a ROM could tell us
I´m running Batman ROM and am not in the mood to flash a new Rom just to test it, sorry.
Furthermore: IF HDR works on our Phone with a Note 8 port, this would mean that Samsung COULD actually add HDR10 support via a firmwareupdate. Though I wouldn´t count on Samsung to do so. Maybe a Dev could add support via Mod.

i just did it, I am seeing HDR in Netflix app and it looks like more colours are being shown but, I am not getting the resolution to see it so mileage may vary

I get an error on my note 8. 5.2. if I install an older version if plays just fine but showing the HDR tags all I get is an error.

i wonder if its available on S9?

Oppo Launch F-box Android STB to stream Find 5 content to your TV
The Oppo Find 5 comes with a very impressive 5-inch 1080p HD display, but sometimes even that isn’t big enough. Thankfully Oppo have released the Oppo F-Box an Android set-top-box from streaming Oppo Find 5 content!
Oppo are no strangers to home media devices, their Blueray players are regarded as some of the best on the market, and with the with other Chinese manufacturers getting in to the Android STB game (Haier, Hisense and Xiaomi) it makes perfect sense for Oppo to launch one too.
Oppo Launch F box Android STB to stream Find 5 content to your TV
Oppo have called their Android streaming device the Oppo F-box (Fun Box?). The sleek black box is so compact it makes even Apple’s minute Apple TV look overly large, and should fit in to even the most cramped media environments.
Full specs of the device have yet to be released, but what we do know is that the F-Box is that it will go on sale internationally later this year, and allows users to mirror content from their Oppo Find 5 to your TV. This includes the home screen, movies, the web browser and even games!
We also have yet to discover if the F-Box is compatible with all Android devices or will only work with the Find 5.
We hope to get our hands on the F-box for review once they are available.

OPPO Style confirmed they'll be adding it to the site once there's stock. It's pretty slick though. I believe Engadget China used it with a Samsung and it worked...
I cant wait to get this, to go along with my Find 5, This phone is sweet its so clean looking, and built with a metal frame inside, its one hell of a sturdy device with premium looks to go along with it. I like how the new batch don't have the back, home and menu displayed unless its turned on, its basically just a screen, all black, It kinda reminds me of my One X International Version but with a lot better specs.
Specs are current or better than today's phones but cost $200 less Unlocked.
With the S4Pro 1.5 Quad Core, 16 or 32GB, Full 5 Inch IPS HD Display, 2GB, Factory Unlocked, 13MP HDR Exmor Camera, DNLA and Much more. I think its the best deal for the price, for a 32GB 5 Inch Display.
I like how Oppo listen to the community and have a future product request section on their forums.
Can't wait..

I tried NETGEAR Push2TV 3000. Didn't work right out of the box, but software update almost solved the problem.
Right now my Push2TV works absolutely fine with Samsung AllShare Cast(tm), which is Miracast(tm) in general. As of Oppo Find5, it connects, mirrors screen, transmits video to TV (and video only), but plays sound through phone speaker . Seems like Find5 is not fully Miracast compatible as of today.
p.s. forgot to mention, CM10, PAC and other CM based ROMs ain't able to connect even. So, "Wi-Fi Display" in their settings is just two words that don't have real meaning, but I believe it'll be fixed eventually.

CM will not work with the Netgear Push2TV on any device other than the Nexus 4. This is because the Push2TV requires source devices to support HDCP - which is the OPPOSITE of the way it should be. Unfortunately, right now, the N4 is the only device that has HDCPv2 libraries compatible with Android 4.2. (Well, maybe the GS4 and the HTC One???)
I haven't tried to see if the Oppo works with Samsung's Allshare Cast dongle, which is more forgiving of devices that lack HDCP.
I haven't tried Miracast on my Oppo yet, partly due to knowing that CM needs a kernel rebase to fix assorted display issues, and partly due to the fact that I'm kinda disappointed in Miracast in general - it doesn't perform well even with a Nexus 4 with any dongle I've tried (PTV3000 and Allshare Cast dongle).

[Q] Camera 2 API, manual control, and RAW (DNG)

So I recently read somewhere that Samsung have not implemented the latest camera API that supports full manual control and RAW output on Lollipop.. And I only found this out after going to the trouble of installing XtreStoLite INTL v.2.0 Lollipop BETA 4 on my 900i and trying to have some fun with Camera FV-5. I'm a little irritated at Samsung for this omission and hope they rectify the situation soon. In the meantime, are there any ROMs out there that have this implementation, or is it something that can only be pulled out of an official Samsung ROM once they get their act together? I've tried a CM12 nightly with no success as well. Camera FV-5 says there is no support, and L Camera just wont run at all.
Thanks
Ok, so I've done some additional research, starting here and here. In a nutshell it is up to Samsung to utilize the additional camera functionality that Lollipop has brought to the table, which among other things requires a reworked camera driver I believe (as mentioned here). And since I don't think we'll ever see a sufficiently capable open source camera driver it seems that we will indeed be at Samsung's mercy here when it comes to the arrival of features like manual camera control and RAW output on the S5 running Lollipop.
Thanks for your research. It is annoying that Samsung chooses to ignore this issue and not add more manual options. Maybe they're doing that on purpose so we buy their K Zoom series? No idea, but that's annoying since it is so easy for them to add that. Many companies have added manual controls even before kitkat! Samsung thinks they know how to optimize their camera better than us and want us to shoot the way they want us to shoot, not fair..
I was very disappointed with the Samsung for not implementing a new feature to the camera 2 api on lollipop. :crying::crying:
Even on BOA3 update there is no camera2 API support!
This update brings no audio lag: Who care about that?!
I'm really disappointed because some times ago I read an article: http://www.anandtech.com/show/8703/quick-note-android-camera2-and-external-isps
The Galaxy Note 3, S5, S4 Exynos, Note 4, and all Nexus device should support the full set of features in camera2 as they seem to only use an on-die ISP.

+1 For this ... I am tired of being at Samsung mercy.
I'm afraid that S6 will kill any further development on S5.. so forget about camera2 API?
Shame on Samsung
I'm afraid DJ Palmis might be right.
Rumours are that the new S6 will support the Camera 2 API. This offers a possibility to differentiate the new flagship from the previous one.
But it hurts since I've bought the S5 plus only 4 months ago and I did this while I anticipated the new Android 5.0 functionality and specifically the
ability to use the RAW format. I can hardly accept that my new camera/phone should already have become obsolete.
I hope that it will be possible to derive a new driver from the new S6 driver.
Well, I e-mailed Samsung asking them when they would release an update with a new camera driver and the answer I got was (translated to english): "We will begin updating this successively but presently we unfortunately have no date for when the update containing the camera 2 API will be released. But the update is under development!"
So it seems they are atleast working on it.
Well done on getting a response. All I got was a silly canned reply from some customer service rep who clearly didn't understand what I was talking about.
Great news

Not likely, Samsung still supports S3 and S4's for firmware updates, so I doubt when the S6 comes out, S5's will not be supported.

I tested S6 and I don't have good news for all of You. Even though it fully passed the test of Manual Camera Compatibility application, manual functions of camera2 in Camera FV-5 are not available.
Not a big problem for me because I'll never buy a smartphone with an embedded battery and no sd card.
Anyway: Camera FV-5 was not compatible even with Nexus phones.
Just give them time to develop a compatible version.

It depends on the meaning of "firmware update". For example there will be no Lollipop for Galaxy S3. No news on Galaxy S4.
That's because when firmware upgrade is related to some deep OS changes.. Mobile brands simply ignore the old devices.

Keep calm and I wrote "was"..
After the s5 I am done with samsung and their ridiculousness. High hopes for the 2015 N5
Hello,
I have worked on Android camera SW porting in my now defunct previous company (STEricsson). The fact that a phone supports the new API depends on several things all of which are not Samsung decision only.
The Samsung Android camera application (java one) depends on the Android framework Camera HW services abstraction. The Camera HAL. This camera service is implemented by whatever compagny provides the phone processor.
So if your GS5 uses a qualcomm processor, having the new Camera2 API depends on qualcomm implementing it.
Now for what is related to having support for RAW camera images it is more a system issue.
2 types of Camera chips exists. The ones that do all of the image processing on the camera chip itslef (SOC camera chips), the ones that delegate the image processing to the phone chip (RAW cameras chips).
The cameras that do the image processing in the camera chips (SOC cameras = system on chip cameras) usually directly stream jpeg images to the processor chip. With such camera, the famous RAW format stays inside the SOC camera and is hence not available to the phone processor (the qualcomm chip for instance).
The RAW cameras on the other hand do almost no image processing on their own, they send the raw images to the phone processor which will do the processing.
So in the end, if for a given phone (GS5 or other) Samsung has chosen to use a SOC camera you will never have RAW image support whatever the ROM you use, if Samsung chose to use a RAW camera chip, it is possible one day to have support for RAW images.

So, Youtube just enabled HDR for the S8(+)

Just noticed this on my S8+, suddenly have the option to enable HDR and the effect is dramatic. Only works when viewing in full screen. Also noticed that the cropping to enable the video to fill the entire screen doesnt work when HDR is on.
Tried it on my Tab S3 (which also is HDR Capable) and it isn't working...yet.
So if Netflix wont support HDR on the S8, Youtube just did.

Yes i have noticed that it's lagging specially when you watch it in 1440p 60fps HDR slows down the device also try to rotate the video. The same feeling when you try to watch a 4k video on 720p tv. Hope future updates solves the problem.
I have noticed also the video crop right corner not enabled by default but only enabled for some videos

Looks nice, thanks. I like HDR but I have to admit it makes colors seem oversaturated and brighter than real-life. It's like everyone and their brother posts oversaturated/color enhanced photos on social media, etc., right? Yeah, easy to do in photo-edit programs. But, it looks like HDR does it by default, which makes it pretty but also pretty darn unrealistic. I mean, seriously, just look out your window during the day and the colors aren't oversaturated like HDR! Oh well, still pretty.
Lol I used the hidden settings menu to turn on 2160p
I get like 3fps of 2160p hdr
Laggy
So not just I'm the one who experiences lags during 1080p 60fps hdr video playback on Galaxy s8?
Yeah YouTube hdr is buggy at best. Video stutters on 1080p 60 fps

Video quality

Your friends are never going to believe what you did. The only way to prove it to them is with that video you took. Rate this thread to express how videos shot on the Samsung Galaxy A50 come out. A higher rating indicates that videos are smooth (and not choppy) and that auto-focus works very well, and that the camera adjusts quickly to different lighting conditions while recording.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Video quality is superb.
Although the Samsung Camera app doesn't support recording beyond 1080p, the Exynos 9610 itself is capable of recording 4K at 120 FPS. However, only 4K30 at about 50 Mbps is available at present through third-party apps as can be seen in the screenshot. 1080p is unfortunately limited to 30 FPS as well, so hopefully Samsung will make better modes available with updates or else there will be no other option than to wait for root access.

Everything is fine under good lighting conditions, though highlights are usually blown out when there are lots of light sources nearby. Hdr isn't that great @1080P 30fps.
The problem is that the Video recording capabilities reduces drastically under lowlight.
The solution for this is to use "Open Camera" app from playstore which supports 4k @30fps ( 48Mbps ), it not only just enables 4k, but the difference in dynamic range is night & day especially under lowlight.
Have a look : https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1NrXoZ75VCALXn0HUYMgZcJJVafI2xhM9
Why only "open camera"? because it's the only app that has better dynamic range & it truly feels like 4k & not just increase in file size. I've tested all other camera apps like, footej, fv-5, manual camera, etc are all crap, they just increase the resolution without any difference in dynamic range while others don't even show 4k rec option.
Lets hope that samsung will push 4k for their native camera app.
Cheers

Valid !
》Sorry to say, but the 1080p video on A50 is straight outta crap. Even hdr is turned off for 1080p video which is outrageous!
》Both wide angle and normal video's are crappy with high noise levels and chromatic aberrations and over saturated colours.
》My moto G5 plus from 2016 with sd 625 shoots 1080p & 4k 30fps both with hdr on. It also has 1080p 60fps option. It totally destroys A50 even today in video recording capabilities. Hell even G5 plus has 1080p hdr on it's front cam.
》Even stabilization on G5 plus is a bit better unless we use super steady mode ( which is good only in good lighting conditions as it uses weaker wide angle lens. )
》Exynos 9610 is definitely more capable as 4k video from Hedgecam/Open camera is vastly superior to the the 1080p crap from stock cam of A50.
Here's an example, have a look yourself:
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=10SDk7tGOGE-DgiENUEx0nDKyPj8_mYeY
》Don't even ask about lowlight video's from stock cam. It's pure trash ! Seems harsh, but that's the sad reality of our A50.
Cheers !

Can someone confirm 10-bit h265 HW codec support for me please?

Hi. I've been eager to buy this phone but there is a feature I would like to confirm first, and is the HW video codecs support, specifically for 10-bit HEVC (x265/h265).
The best way to confirm it is installing the MX Player app, then going into Local Player Settings > Decoder > HW+ video codecs and see if it is checked in the list and says "Hardware accelerated".
The window in the app looks like this, from my current phone. As you can see, it lacks 10 bit h265.

I would be very grateful if anyone can confirm this for me please, to proceed with the purchase. Sadly I can't verify it since it will be an online purchase and I don't know anyone who owns it. Thanks.
Hi, I have the global version of POCO M3 (QJFMIXM), I just checked with MX Player and AIDA64, and it doesn't support H.265 10bits, please read the screenshots I attached.

Hello if you don't mind I would like to ask you a question. I am also considering to buy this phone. Im not a gamer but I do watch a lot tv series on my phone. My current phone (Pixel 2) support HW video codecs 10-bit HEVC. But since this device does not support that, does that mean
1. will it consume more battery when playing x265 10bit videos on this device?
2. will there any video playback issues related to smooth playback?

Hi!
1. Yes it will consume more battery since it has to decode the video in software, thus using CPU power.
2. Probably yes as well. I got a Redmi Note 8 because it was on sale and it has native support for 10-bit HEVC. But if I run a video with that codec on software mode, cpu usage goes up a lot, the phone gets warm and playback is not smooth a lot of the time. 10-bit HEVC is pretty resource intensive.
I was on the same boat as you since I also watch a lot of media on my phone and some of these come with this format. So it was a deal breaker even though I liked everything else about the Poco M3.

Thanks a lot for the response mate, that's really helpful. Initially I was going for Poco X3, however due to my budget issues I was considering M3. But after I got to know this, it is kind of a deal breaker to me as well. Thanks again!
