almost every other day for about 1.5 weeks now i keep getting an SMS from some random 3 - 5 digit number containing what appears to be an email address
the last message was yesterday from 3510 and the email address in it is [email protected]/ /
anyone else get these messages? anyone know who is sending them? or how can i make them stop... i have unlimited messages but i dont like receiving them.
help please!
I dont think this goes in this forum, but ive gotten the message about 3 times since I got my G1, which was like a week ago and I wanna know what its from too.
Seems to be something relating to Verizon picture sharing and nothing to do with Dream.
Moved to Dream forum although as said above this isn't a dream issue.
The number is T-Mobile, that is how the forward emails to your phone. Try sending an email to *your phone number*@tmomail.net
And again it sounds like a verizon wireless customer is trying to send you a picture... or you sent a picture to a verizon wireless customer and it was rejected.
If you want to stop this then you can block emails in my.t-mobile.com there is an email area that allows you to block email messages.
i have a friend that sends me lots of pics and he has verizon so that makes sense.
since i didnt know it was related to verizon i figured i'd ask the guys/gals that have the same phone that i do... (dream)
thanx for clearing that issue up for me. and thanx to the devs on this site for doing great work for us who cant...
lol. heheh reminds me of when i used to do sms bombing and all the receiver would see was a four digit number + a random email i used and my message. i did it to my friends a few times but it got boing after a while. And Yes i know this is not your case.
Actually it is only a g1 problem, t mobile says it is working on a fix.

I don't quite believe what is said in the story but do believe it may be specific to the G1... then again these can be coming from apps you installed, wasn't there one that signed your number up for some spam thing?

No, its not related to any apps, because the day I bought my G1 and set it up, I recieved one of those messages before installing any apps.
Hmmm... that is weird. I haven't received anything unsolicited on my phone.... well besides texts from people I rather not speak to anymore LOL
A slightly different explanation is given here at message 8 of 10:

wow
holy crap thats real bad. Thats some privacy issues out the window. You send it to one person and a few hundred thousand get it lol now thats a chain letter.
Does anyone know if you can send a text message to a contact's secondary number?
i.e. if I had a contact
Mr A
Mobile: 123456789 (default)
Mobile2: 1232465933
Is there a way that I can select Mobile2 in the text message 'To' field. Currently it will only come up with the default number.
I know that you can send a message via the contacts screen.

I gave someone in my contacts list a faux secondary mobile number and when I start typing their name the Auto Complete finds both mobile numbers just fine. Am I understanding you correctly?
you can text that person through the Contacts app instead of Messaging.
Open Contacts then go to the specific contact then hit the secondery phone no.

Same here, just changed a contact so that two numbers were marked "mobile" and went to messaging, typed the first two letters of the contact name and both mobile numbers showed up for selection.
Thanks for the info, I was being a bit dumb, or rather didn't realise that texting only picks up contacts marked as mobile. Some of mine were marked as home etc...
Thanks again!
Hello,
Since this is the only place that has this problem raised on the web, I"m asking for your help. I have a htc rhodium, touch pro2.
I have the same problem that the other guy had but worse. I cannot change the secondary number to mobile. I have options for: home, company, work, car.. etc?
I cannot do it even via the contacts screen.
How do I resolve this?... :?
Please help anyone?
P.S. I know this is not the right subforum, but since it is discussed here....

You don't have the Dream, perhaps your phone don't even support multiple Mobiles as a choice?

It would seem so... ???
Although it seems very strange to me considering this is a business phone. Many people have dual mobiles.......
There has to be a solution....
I'll ask at even at the rhodium subforum....

not necessarily true..
I use both my phones for business. I divide contacts based on importance. But this is not a business discussion
and this problem means that I can send SMS to only one of those numbers, or make a new contact with a second number... time consuming
strange, very strange behaviour.
My very old nokia did not have this problem..
I really hope android gets ported to the rhodium, windows let me down again...
cheers
My HD2 is sending text messages to other people that are in my text log. I don't know why. I've done a factory reset on it. I haven't installed any roms or anything. This is straight out of the box t-mobile hd2 (US). This is a serious breach of privacy if I'm texting my gf!
Please advise
Just from a quick google I found two other posts with this same issue on other websites.

Only possible fix is replacing my sim card? Its less than a year old.
No one else on xDa having this problem?
I don't know what to do I bought the phone from someone online, I can't even get it traded from t-mobile.
no SMS problem here on AT&T with HD2 t9193
my texts work fine, except that if my friend replies in the same minute as me, their text goes above mine, but that is only minor nuisance. i haven't experienced anything you talk about. sorry i can't help.
wow, how am I the ONLY person with this issue on xda
I am having the same issue. It is sending texts to wrong person who is already in the text log...not to multiple people though. I bought my hd2 from tmobile store. I enabled the traditional mode in the text settings and that took care of the text messaging problem. looks like there is some bug in the sms software loaded on hd2.
me too.

Thank God I am not crazy. I thought that it was me. I sent a text message to one person and three people responded?!?! Irealized I was not crazy when two contact pictures showed up in the original persons thread of messages. I need to know what the fix is myself. I will call customer service tonight to let them know. I will report back with any news,
one of my friends had this same issue I planned on changing the rom on her phone but if something else works let me know thanks!

Do you mean add all the contacts "to" the sim card? All I have done was use the microsoft myphone feature to grab all the contacts. please clarify a bit for me. thanks.
Im having the same problem on my hd2 (us) as well. I even exchanged it and Iv had it for about 3 days and am still having the same problem. Does getting a new sim card for sure fix the problem 100%?
I returned the first HD2 I had and got another one. The problem went away until today. Not pleased. I swear, I have never had the amount of problems with a phone - out the box - that I am having with this phone.

There should be a program called SIM MANAGER you click on that and copy all your sim contacts to your phone. I think that is what he meant.
Have you tried removing HTC messaging and going with a different program?

Hate to not stay on topic here, but for this issue, I found out that hd2 uses client time for outgoing messages, but server time for incoming ones, which is why they seem out of order. Syncing the time fixed it for me.

No problem here..thats kinda odd indeed

Hello all,
I have a really strange problem with MMS on my t-mobile HTC HD2. I can send an MMS to myself without any issues (successfully sends and receives). Picture pops up perfectly. No issues. Good!
So I try to send an MMS to another phone (an iphone which can also send/ receive MMS without problems) and I get a couple delivery reports, the first says that the message has been delivered and the second says the message has been rejected (MMS is not received by the other phone). Both phones can send MMS to themselves without issues so I know MMS is working. And the iphone can send MMS to the HTC HD2 without problems. But the problem happens when the HTC HD2 tries to send an MMS to another phone (I've also tried to send a couple MMS' overseas but got the same rejected delivery report). What's the deal?
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
I see you are focused soley on MMS. This may be simply a matter of sizes.
Your HD2 may be sending MMS with attachments larger than the iPhone is prepared to accept, either due to network or software limitations.
I have an old hack that let's me send up to 600k through T-Mobile, but anything over 200k is rejected by my sister's phone over on Sprint.
Again, not sure if this is software or network, but it could be the problem. Give it a shot with a smaller file size and let us know how it went.

Yea, that was the first thing I suspected so I decided to deal with image sizes less than 200K to be on the safe side (specifically 90K and 157K). Sadly, it still did not work.
Thank you sir.

Glad you checked that, good thinking
Okay, I saw something on here the other day about the HD2 sending or receiving thumbnail'd images. Check that out and see if there's some sort of fix offered. It's possible your MMS settings are just a wee bit off.
Oh, is the iPhone and HD2 on the same network?

Yea, the iPhone and HD2 are both on T-Mobile.
As far as the MMS settings, I am using the same settings on both phones. I sent an MMS to a friend of mine who also has an HD2 on T-Mobile and it was sent/received successfully. It seems like its having problems with phones other than HD2's (MMS rejected when sent to a Nokia N97, N95 and my iPhone). Its my understanding that if you have the ability to receive MMS you should be able to send MMS since the same settings are used.

OK, this is the last thing I can think of, sorry :\
Are you perhaps using a format that the iPhone doesn't accept, like PNG or BMP or something?
I know that the HD2 camera supports multiple outputs, but I know next to nothing about the iPhone...

Perhaps the iPhone isn't the best platform to test if MMS is working (without jailbreaking). I tried it with another phone and it worked fine. Read about carrier bundles in Cydia, tried that and it worked. I seriously do not know how that worked since all that does is put the MMS settings automatically for you which were exactly what I already had. But it now works. Weird.
Thanks for your help.

I hate solutions like this
Others will come along with the same issue and then read the solution and say, "Damn, that didn't help!"
Oh, well, at least you fixed yours. Good going!
Issue resolved. Thread closed
I've read, searched and done my homework on this problem, but can't figure it out.
SMS works fine texting anyone in my contact list EXCEPT my wife. I can send a new message to her but I can't reply to an SMS she sends me.
Looking into the details of the failed SMS, it shows it is trying to go to 01214-xxx-xxxx. There's a 0 where there should be a +
Everyone else is +1xxx-xxx-xxxx.
Looking at the SMS she sends me doesn't have the +1 (like everyone else). All SMS TO ME are on the form xxx-xxx-xxxx and all replies +1xxx-xxx-xxxx EXCEPT my wife.
She's on Sprint, I'm on AT&T. The kids are on Sprint and can reply back just fine. They both have Android phones too. I can reply to the kids just fine.
One more possible clue, she was the only contact that somehow got on my SIM card. I deleted that off and just use my Exchange contacts now. However, that's still not doing it.
*** Solved ***
The issue was the Twitter contact I had for my wife. She and I both have Twitter accounts. We followed each other. The Twitter contact info looked correct but was causing issues.
To troubleshoot I first deleted the Exchange contact. Then she sent a test SMS. My phone interpreted her number with the culprit 0 IE 01xxx-xxx-xxxx instead of xxx-xxx-xxxx or +1xxx-xxx-xxxx.
... the SMS shows as coming from xxx-xxx-xxxx but something in my phone was still appending a 0 .... and my phone still knew my wife's name. So I knew I had some remnant of info of her in my phone. The only thing I could find was the Twitter contact.
I unfollowed her and readded her contact info. Presto!!! I can reply to her SMS texts now.
She's cheating on you
That "0" is the country code, but for some reason its using 2 codes (0 & 1) check you contacts and make sure her number is right in there also

But the thing is, everyone else can reply to her SMS just fine. Thankfully, I have an identical phone to compare with. Both my wife and daughter have EVOs on Sprint. I can reply to my daughter's SMS messages but not my wife's.
I think mr_billionaire is on to something, and I suspected the same. The international code is hosed somewhere. Under call settings I found an international code difference on my wife's phone (than my daughter's) under Settings, Call. My daughter's said 011, my wife's was 01. Changing it to my daughter's 011 didn't help.
It must be some way my wife's contact is stored in my phone.
mayb its got to do with call barring?
I'm just going to take a guess and assume that your sig is what your running for your phone correct? if so then I wouldn't be surprised if you were having that issue.
maybe...
what if you just hard reset your phone and see if that fixes it....I mean kinda sucks but might work
Try deleting her contact from your phone, SIM, and whatever server you sync with. Then have her send you a text and try again.
This is a known problem, Android doesn't like my wife either.. My wife keeps on saying that i'm cheating on her with my Android... Bottom line man... Give up, they will never get along..
ok I might get killed with this one - but did you reboot to winmo and see if you can reply to your wife yet? aint hd2 great? if android doesn't work, go winmo!

WinMo always used to work, but I figured I'd test again. I booted into Windows Mobile and sent a test and was able to reply back just fine.
Then I booted into Android and ran the same test, ...fail.
The contact should be identical in both since it is pushed from the Exchange server. However, I'm not trusting it. I'm going to delete her contact and re-add her.
