Those who have received the update for the red tint fix for the S8 and S8+. Did the update solved the issue? Mine seems to have gotten a lot better after lowering the reds on the main sliders and played around with the new 'screen edge colour balance'.
Since you've got the update already I assume you are in Korea? After you lowered the red setting to improve the red t tint does it affect the overall maximum brightness of the screen from what it could do previous to the update? I'm wondering if lowering all those color settings would also diminish the maximum brightness of the original screen.
I had pink edges. Flashed the AQDG update and dialled the screen edge colour down one notch. Problem is now solved. If the overall brightness of the screen is affected, I can't see it.

Well that sounds promising so far. But I am wondering why there aren't a lot of reports anywhere from all the many users saying that their red tint was fixed by the update. I figure that many would have said something by now one way or the other as well as the web media review sites would have mentioned something about it by now. Nothing but mostly silence except for the two or three of you who have posted that it looks good so far. But no disrespect to you and the others, but how do we know you are not a Samsung employee or shill. It'd be more convincing if everyone reports on their updated S8/S8+ saying it works or if it fails. As an aside, is there any improvement to the Wi-Fi file transfer speed with the update? The current firmware on my T-Mobile USA S8 seems to have slowed down Wi-Fi file transfer speeds and I hope they will fix that too.

It could be because the issue isn't that widespread, a lot of buyers aren't bothered by it, and the update isn't universally available yet. (I got it from here and flashed with Odin)

I tried everything... Now I put red slider at minimum, white balance to cool and the same for edges... But I have noticeable pink edges on white/gray background... My wife bought another s8+ with me and it is almost perfect (a little reddish all the display but uniform, and using red slider it become perfect)... Hoping next one will be fine...

I guess there's a limit to what can be fixed in software. The next one will most likely be fine.

I had the screen temperature slider all the way to the warm side and the red to the minimum. Screen edge is at max cool.

I'm from Singapore. Lol..
Well.. brightness-wise, it doesn't look much different before and after. I pushed the main slider towards warm, and reds to minimum and the new edge slider settings to cool. For whatever reason pushing it all the way to warm, the tint would get more apparent. But as far as the red tint, it seems to have disappeared. The bottom corners does seem to still have a tiny little tint but barely noticeable. Overall I'm pretty happy with the results.

I'm from Austria and got the update yesterday morning. German CSC (DBT) and some march build on the device (C something).
but: I own 3 S8+ atm (due to the display flaws, to select the best one an return the others), all of them bought from amazon.de. the two devices I got last week which got an update to build DD last week did not get the OTA.
so this must be either a staged rollout based on something else as only CSC, or based on the build you are on!

Well I sit here STILL waiting for the update, and frankly I am getting increasingly pissed off at how long the updates take to get to my phone. I have a sim free phone and expect to get the updates BEFORE all the carriers release them since the carriers will need to do extra testing, yet I waited at least a week for the DD update after all the carriers released it (UK) and now I am waiting again for DG. Sim free phones should be getting the updates first not last due to not needing to wait for carriers to test!
Anyway you lot are aware that this software "fix" will only apply to "adaptive display" mode right? If you ever wanted to use the 3 other modes you'll still have the red screen (and it's a lot worse in those modes as well). It is clearly a hardware fault that they are trying to fudge with a software fix and hope it will be enough for most people.

If your issue isn't severe, I'd suggest you to wait for the update. Mine is fairly acceptable(just around the edges. The middle has perfect whites). I've seen way worse demo sets in various stores. After messing around with the new settings for a bit, I'm much, much happier. Not perfect, but way better. I've attached my settings. Check it out. Didn't take the before after update though.

The carriers do deals where the sim free firmware does not get released until they are ready.
Their forums get full of whining customers otherwise.

I see. I might have to install some carrier firmware then. I am with EE anyway, just didn't want their bloat. And I suspect they don't use the same XEU CSC so flashing an EE firmware would probably wipe my phone

Good News!!
yes, this indeed is a good news for us .
I think its a codec issue. I took one of the last movies that I watched via HDMI from the GSN to a sony bravia 42" wide-screen telly and then compared that to playing the same movie file direct to the bravia via usb. the difference is amazing. So I dont think its so much the screen, but more likley to be the codecs on the SGN.
Then why do some notes have the black crush and banding really bad, and some have it really mild?
My first note was a bad one which i returned, i waited a month and bough another and this one is a lot better.
I think it`s an hardware problem, the screen or the display chips i dont know, but if two notes are running identical software, and one is bad and the other is not, what else can it be.
John.
i hope they prepare a fix for this and the emmc bug soon..
good news. edit: it just shows that maybe if the community had gone done this route 6 months ago we MAY have got an outcome similar to this then, rather than waiting on a 3rd party developer to come up if a fix and nagging them all the way.
Oh and good job to Janice for taking the initiative to start that thread on Samsung Dev
Don't be optimistic about what Samsung says....... for how long have they promised to work on the eMMC bug but have gone silence since then? They will just continue to focus on their Latest Flagship SGS3 and how to sell 10 million copies by July and after that how to get SGN2 on the way. They will not do anything about this problem..... maybe we should report this SH*T to media like ENDGADGET,GSMARENA etc etc

Get your facts right, they never promised to work on the Emmc bug...
I think the issue is more of a mis-color calibration part on the phones. Some have less mis color calibration than others.
Samsung's head QA supervisors should be fired a long time ago with this issue. Releasing a product that is never quite fully baked at all.

As I said, they never promised anything, just some Samsung developers trying to help the community.
Do you have any idea how many ppl work at Samsung ?
Do you have any idea at which level these contacts are ?
Have you seen ANY official announcement from samsung on this issue ??
I didn't say they are not doing anything, I said they never promised anything.
So as I said to the other member, get your facts right, the same applies to you
Be either someone from Samsung on from these forums, just make an app that allow us to control Gamma curve on this device, I can manage the situation with that.
I did tests with gammatest.png image and it looks different displayed on the Gallery and on QuickView.
But we need some way to manually adjust the brightness level, to make lower RGB values darker. I would like to see RGB 1,1,1 pretty much black, and RGB 5,5,5 different from 10,10,10. Right now any brightness level between 1 and 20 is rendered with pretty much the same brightness, and 0 is pure black.
This gives dark scenes a very bad aspect, with a big gray and a big black area instead of a gradient.

Well, I cant fight that one. The symptoms appear as a potential codec issue, but, your own observation points in the other direction. It's what I call another 'Samsung sods muddle'.
Allegedly : Sam*ung know there is a problem with the screen, but they don't want a recall, so every time somebody rings Sa*sung support they get told this is the first they have heard about it, also people were reporting that negative posts on review website were deleted or edited, is there a cover up?
I think Sam*ung is working on the problem behind the scenes, and new stock is a lot better at least in my case, but still not perfect.
Though i know HT*C has a problem with the one x , I have one with a yellow blob on the screen, and So*y xperias has a problem with the screen color of there new mobile.
So it`s not just Sa*sung having problems.
I don't want Sams*ng to release a firmware fix, as not all note`s are bad and i don't want my note with a good screen getting worse.
The screens need to be calibrated individually, but this is going to require the phone being returned to a service center, as a hardware calibrator will be needed, but i doubt Sa*ung will do this.
I think a app similar to the "screen adjuster" one, but a improved version that does not require root, and has an example image you have to match with a slider like you do with a lcd display calibrator.
My advice is if you have a note with black clipping or banding and you cannot live with it, get it replaced, I have read that it took one note owner 5 exchanges before he got a good one.

it seems like samsung galaxy nexus is also having the black clipping issue, some user have claim that it have been solved by using the lean kernel (colour calibration) "wonder is there any something like this for galaxy note ??? "
http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-nexus/465326-horrible-blue-aliasing-artifacts-black-areas-during-video-playback.html
I have notest that, when I am taking a photo with the camera software, in dark conditions, I don't see the black clipping effect. I take the photo... then open it in Gallary and... the clipping appears there. So is something in the software.
This is really bugging me.
I just did another round with Samsung regarding this. They are terrible. I told them that I exchanged my device and the new one still has the problem, now they want me to send the brand new one for repair which will take up.to 2 weeks. The first rep I spoke to at technical support acknowkedged the problem and said it was normal, at which point I linked her to a youtube vid of a dude who finally got them to replace his Note with on manufactured recently, she was like Oh, and forwarded ny call to customer services, who blatently lied and said that they were not aware of the issue, so I linked her to samsungs own developer forum where one of the devs have acknowledged the problem and said that they are working on it, only for her to say that it was a 3rd party website and if they knew about it, there would have been an official announcement, I advised her that it was not a 3rd party, and that it was samsungmobile.com but she was having none of it and wanted me to send for repair. I told her to log the complaint and stick it. I already went 4 days without a phone when they advised me to exchange fir a new one (which has the same issue) Now they want me to go without a phone for 2 weeks only to get it back with the same issue again. Fing LAME!
I'm getting tired of the horrible camera from my note 3 and really bad build quality, so I'm thinking of getting a new flagship phone and pass my note to my girlfriend.
At the moment, I'm deciding between the nexus 6p and the newly released Galaxy s7 edge.
I used some AOSP roms on my Samsung and I fell in love with them, the ui was incredibly smooth and minimalistic, everything was flying except for the camera performance and poor battery life because somehow touchwizz had better drivers. I would really love a stock android rom on the premium body of the 6p, but I'm planning to use this phone for a long time, at least 3 years. So I was wondering if the s7 edge wouldn't be a better option, since it has better specs and should be more future proof.
How is the snapdragon 810 compared to the exynos 8890? Is the exynos much better?

Well on benchmarks the the new exynos and SD 820 both beat the SD 810
But given you want to use the phone for 3 years I would suggest get a phone with more updates and developer support so that it works flawlessly till you buy your next phone ( so IMO buy nexus)
As a prior N3 user I can tell you the 6p is actually easier to hold however reviewers are praising the Sedge over any other phablet for its pocketability and ease-of-use 1-handed.
The 6p is a big ugly block in my pocket and can be uncomfortable when sitting. Everything else about it is amazing though. With pie controls (and there are non-root apps that do this) 1-handing it is a breeze.
I would say if you value updates, rooting/custom roms and don't care for touchwhiz then go for the Nexus. I'm guessing since you're on XDA you do. Leave the locked down Samsung nightmare behind.
Thanks for all the replies guys, I decided to buy the nexus in the end.
Here's why: I will use it for at least 3 years, so the constant updates are a big plus. Also, even if it has lower specs then the s7, the software is much more optimized. No matter how fluid and smooth touchwiz has become, no Samsung in this world runs better then stock android on the latest nexus flagship.
And even if it has slightly lower specs then the s7, they are still more then enough for what I'm planning to use it for: Internet browsing, YouTube, Facebook, clash of clans and taking pictures (I read that the camera is great).
The reason I'll be using it this much is that the store I buy it from, here in Romania, offers the possibility to get 1 or 2 more years of warranty, aside from the 2 years the device already comes with. And if do I get extra warranty, it becomes premium warranty. This means: if my device breaks and needs to be sent for repair, they send a courier to my door to pick the product for me, free of charge and free shipping. And if they don't fix the device within 5 working days, I can get a full refund of the initial price. That's right, after let's say 3 years, when this phone will be worth around 200-300$ in used condition, I can get the full 570$ I initially payed, if they can't fix the phone.
I already did that with my nexus 10 after a year, then got enough money to get the note 3. My note still has 2 more years and a few months of warranty, in which time I'm 100% positive that it will eventually break.
The note goes to my girlfriend and I decided that I want a new phone, a premium one that I'll be using for a long time while I have the 4 years warranty.
Congratz! enjoy your Nexus 6p Bad Boy on XDA.
U have had all galaxy S line. Trade my note 5 for nexus 6p which was my first nexus phone. I can tell u that i never felt in love with a phone ao much like the nexus 6p. Even the note 5 was driving crazy with lag in app like fb, youtube etc.
I have 2 galaxy s7 edge on preorder tmobile bogo, But will most likely will be sell both. I already went to the store like 5time to play with the edge. I have tried to really like it but i dont. It feel like a toy. Nexus 6p is more mature looking. S7 is faster but nexus 6p stock android is way smoother. Now with androis N releasinf in the fall i can see all galaxy s owner crying and waiting 6 month for a single update. Not only samsung releasing the update. But thwn u have to way for thw carrier to release them. 6.0.1 waa release a month agon on the note 5. Tmobile, att still have not.

good to read all posts above, but need little help if you or someone could :
I am using Edge + for last 5 months and still waiting for MM to drop for my phone version
I am thinking to sell my edge + and buy 6P coz i love flashing roms and modifying system files
now what I have read everywhere, the screen is not better on 6P compare to edge +
camera software lags and can take time to save pictures if HDR is used (compare to edge + / Note 5)
starts lagging after the phone gets hot. or say the processor throttles down which I have never seen on my edge +
please tell me what above points are true or am I taking the right decision of selling Edge + for 6 P ?
sorry I can not see 6P in any mobile shop in my town, they sell but they don't have it on display....so I have to buy sealed pack without trying/using it first
I would appreciate if someone could help me take decision
Regards
I guess I'm too late, but I've owned both. And my answer would be S7 Edge without any question. I won't go into all the reasons since you already got the 6P. Definitely enjoy your device!

alright so its just the display which I will miss right ?
i am reading thread where many have complained about the pink/grey tint issues with the display and even after getting their phone replaced so many times, its still not perfect
I guess, its something I won't like because my edge+ screen is perfect
now I have to decide, if I want perfect screen then s7 edge or nexus 6P if I need rom development

You probably will miss the display. Sammy has great displays - arguably the best in the business. I attribute this to the brightness of the screen more than anything else.
I think the pink/grey thing is definitely not a predominant issue with the majority of the 6Ps being shipped. Most of my family have 6Ps based on my recommendation, and none of them have had that issue. Neither have the ones I've seen at Best Buy, or the ones my friends and colleagues use. If it weren't for the vocal few here, I'd never have known the issue exists. In short: I doubt you'll have a problem, and if you do by all accounts I've read on Google's support, it has been stellar.
Also, the 6P screen is far from terrible. It's just not as bright as the S7's display. They're both AMOLED so they'll saturate colors, but both phones give you options on color correction.

thanks again my friend, I really appreciate your help !
I think i might not see color tint because most of the time I use my phone on 90% manual brightness and people who are complaining about the tint issue use their phone below 50% brightness, I think that is the time when tint is more noticeable ?
Also, 1 last question, do we also have so many variants of 6P ?
coz on my edge+ there are so many variants, different for all countries, many have got MM update already but I am still waiting because Sami hasn't dropped update for my variant yet
If I buy 6P, do I need to look for some special variant to buy online so all roms are available to flash ?
or any unlocked phone from local shop will do ?
thanks again

You're welcome. Glad to help.
I honestly don't know. I normally adjust my display manually: Under 40%-ish while I'm browsing in bed with the lights off. (It's blinding at 80% or more in a dark room.) I've had no issue on my screen under 50%, or with adaptive brightness on. Looks fine above 50% too. Brightness settings are not something I worry about messing with, so I adjust often. Other people seem to be a bit more OCD about the whole thing. They search for the perfect all-around brightness for them, and hate messing with it once they've found that spot. Personally, I don't understand that, but... to each their own.
No, nothing special. There are only 2 variants I think? I had to google for it. I came across this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus/comments/3omi6l/nexus_6p_us_vs_international_model/ So, if you live outside North America, get the international version. As far as I know, the factory images contain everything for both variants, and I would assume most ROMs do as well.

http://www.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7-bootloader-lock-explained-you-might-not-get-aosp-after-all/
No development for the s7 on any carrier is pretty lame. T-mobile bootloaders locked.
I've had my Mocha Mate 9 4gb 64gb since Thursday so been playing quite heavily all weekend.
I'd say I'm a heavy user BTW!
Battery - its on 80% today after 7 hours, and last night was 40% when I retired. As the battery will get stronger on the next few days this will be a killer battery and easily last 1 day plus. Charges very quickly.
Size - Its HUGE! I have big hands and you need to juggle it on occasion. However it makes it so much more usable.
Screen - lovely. Great colours and detail.
Camera - WOW. Just wow. I am now selling my Sony digital. Just wish there were some obvious settings to set where the pics get saved to etc.
Speakers - not bad but I don't believe there are 2 in the bottom...
Fingerprint sensor - rocket fast! I use my phone in my left hand so its easy to set up, but in trying to set up for right handed use I kept hitting the power button by mistake and eventually gave up. This might be a problem for lefties who use the phone in their right hand.
A couple of times I've opened apps and the on screen menu buttons have not appeared. This makes it quite difficult to switch between apps with this bug.
Also plugging in a USB cable to transfer in pics from my laptop has resulted in the connection hanging. Its fine on my Oneplus3 so assume a bug. Good job it has a removable SD card!!
Phone manager keeps popping up (in the notification area) referring to power hungry apps but it doesn't seem to let me cancel these notifications permanently.
Another gripe is the notifications (as mentioned elsewhere). It gives you a total number but not the actual app icons to show what the notifications are! This is probably the worst thing about the mate 9.
Smart lock Trusted Places/location isn't available as Huawei in their wisdom decided to remove one of the great android features!
Google Play Music appears to have lost the equaliser in android 7! I've reverted to Captune and Poweramp.
A few tweaks to fw would make this awesome. I'm loving it - shame theres no s pen (ex note 7 user still in mourning).
I bought it in the UK from MYGSM.ME and had it from dubai on 4th day. Pretty good. I also like the included snap on case.
Hope this helps with anyone thinking of buying.
Only one speaker (right) works but you'll find some audio via the top earpiece too. But it's very quiet in comparison.

True, i hope they crank the volume up a tad in the next update
Notifications should be fixed on the final build. It's still pre-release software on retail devices for some reason.
Hopefully improvements to camera and audio as well.
hey mate did you get a tracking code from mygsm? I also bought from them last Thurs and haven't received one. Can't wait to get my hands on mine , also got the same colour
thanks
Defo agree with all the things you've mentioned. Can't wait for the notification and other bugs to be fixed.
Really liking this phone so far!
Btw I'm on Build B110. Is this a pre-release build?

Me too.
Loving every bit of this phone. Have 2 major issues:
1. Notifications are a disaster! Why Huawei tried to reinvent notifications in android is beyond me. This is my first Huawei phone so not sure if its been like this always or mate 9 is special. I have to enable each app individually to show notifcations in the lock screen and even then its very unpredictable. The top notification bar only shows the number of notifications rather than showing the apps icons. Anyway, i hope this gets fixed soon.
2. This one I haven't seen anyone else complaining but maybe its not serious enough for others. When i am using the phones, it sometimes does not register my tap and i have to tap again. I see the problem gets worse when tapping something close to the edges of the display. Not sure if its some sort of Huawei technology to avoid accidental taps by your palm when holding the phone in one hand and try to reach far ends of the display, but its driving me insane.
Anybody else with these issues?
Apart from these, its the best Android phone I've ever used. My last one was galaxy s7 edge, just to give everyone a perspective.
Cheers,
Hi, I recognize the taping problem and it's very annoying. Clearly software related; lets hope it's fixed now with the new firmware.
Yes same problem here, but I think it's a software problem. I can draw with my knuckles in the edge areas with low sensibility.

have you tried enabling touches on the dev settings? Might be worth doing that to see whether the screen is responding as it might indicate a screen problem over a software problem.

Absolutely! And it drives me insane too! X( I am barely able to write a text. I also tried few different keyboards, just in case. But the problem seems to be the touchscreen itself This and the okayish battery life (with Huawei Watch and Gear Fit2 connected) are major deal breakers for me. It's just not worth that much money... To make matters worse, one could buy a S7 Edge for the same price! And that is one of the best phones I ever had -_-

I already now have OnePlus 3T in my other pocket and using them side by side. I might just switch over to Oneplus if Huawei keeps on delaying the release of a GA firmware. That'd be pity because i really really liked the phone and its camera.
Im also facing a similar problem with touch response and im wondering if a replacement will fix the issue...
My main problem is it's nearly impossible to touch icons or arrows on the top right corner right under the notification bar

Do you feel its a software issue (some icons don't have proper touch mapping) or digitizer is faulty?
yes i am also having trouble registering key press specifically on the number 1 or alphabet q on the keyboard.
if this is unfixable by firmware update I might sell and go back to samsung
Hey guys,
Forewarned. This is a review/rant/suggestion to lookelsewhere. Read on if you dare.
After using this phone for a week I must say, I'm pretty disappointed. While I'm happy with the specs (for the most part) there are more and more problems I have each day which makes me want to change phones.
2nd screen & Main screen resolution:
The addition of a 2nd screen seemed like a pretty awesome addition, but I believe it's a bit overkill without being able to setup customisation of notifications.
Edit 1/12: Have removed some details of second screen in info.
The options for applications or customisation on that screen is SO severely limited, they might as well offer no customisation from the apps other than the 4 you see. The 2nd screen can remain off (while main display is on), or turn on when you lock the main display, OR be on all the time. It's another avenue of losing valuable battery life at the expense of a note so necessary second screen. I imagine this is also quite tricky for devs (or will be) when trying to customise. Also, what happened to the LED light? LG must believe the second screen is better instead, yet they offer way way off setting up specific app notification or the use of colours? It would be better to get something more than a tiny white (and dimmed) icon when the phone is locked? Yes, there's an audible tone, but the LED light allowed me to previously look at my LG G4 from a distance as it cycle-flashed throgh colours letting me know which one (or series) of event notifications I had missed...
QHD display looks awesome on this phone, colours are brilliant. One of the better phones to otherwise look at. I'm glad the battery is 3200mah, because it needs it. I can't really blame the battery capacity as iot's more than most flagships; I blame what wastes the battery more - either a BUG that needs to be addressed in the Android OS itself, orthe fact the QHD is overkill. On that note, why not go amoled instead of IPS? Every 1-1.5 yars when I change phones, my battery size keeps increasing, my usage stays around the same rate, but my bsttery life doesn't seem as great. Generation after generation...why is that? I believe its related to the overkill size of the screen (since flagships keep getting bigger) and the huge QHD boost in resolution.
ORIGINAL POST: This phone, seems to lack ADAPTIVE BRIGHTNESS. Why, oh heavenly lord of all that is SANE, would a company REMOVE this feature? Can't answer for the G5, but it was on the G4 and now it's gone. In strong daylight, I'm blind at using my phone unless I accurately unlock and then adjust the brightness manually myself. This lack of a feature makes it unusable in MANY situations. I could be wrong, but I hope a software update could fix or implement this adaptivity.
EDIT - Update 30/11: I've pushed an OTA update and found this problem to have been addressed, it now appears more responsive and incremental as described below. It had me worried for a minute!!
LG as a company:
Their customer service by phone and chat is quite possibly the worst I've experienced. They know nothing. When they have to escalate a case, they never get back to you unless you pester. yes, many companies could fall into the same category here, but LG 'segregate' every one of their offices for each country. Pick up a LG v20 H990DS in Australia (IDENTICALLY sold in 3+ other countries) and LG Support in Australia have no idea about that. They also ahve no clue about any phones of theirs NOT release din the country you are speaking with. What's worse, is EVERY country has their calls re-routed or redirected to Manila, or some place....so you'd effectively be talking to the same person or team of people regardless if whether you called the AUS or USA support phone number. They are a complete joke.
LG Dev community
Bless your little hearts for the devs that own this phone or are working tirelessly developing for it. It's no secret with the dev community for LG is barely drawing a breathe - LG do nothing for customisation of their elecontrics or provide any interactiopn/support the developer community. Someone can try telling me how they just released a process for the SINGLE SIM USA 'open market variant' to UNLOCK the bootloader....Yeah, that's aweome...for a few dozen people in 1 region of the world. What about every other country or the more popyular dual SIM? Bah... I can't stress how important root has been for me over the years on a phone, an unlocked bootloaderi a bonus, but I don't see it coming any time soon. This is a big enough reason to drop the phone for another with similar specs that has root.
-----------------------------
There's plenty of options out there as we all know, but the clear stand-out for me is the ASUS Zenfone 3 Deluxe. You're probably thinking...why not stop b*tching about this phone and buy that? Well, the developer community for this brand is just as bad - almost non-existant, plus a viable root method (or boot unlock) doesn't exist for this phone yet, otherwise I'd already be on the bandwagon.
FLAGSHIP SIMILARITIES:
-Same CPU
-Same RAM (on 32GB ROM version of Zenfone 3)
-Same screen size
-Both support NFC, dual SIM
BIG DIFFERENCES:
- Zenfone 3 Deluxe *HAS* FHD 1080p resolution, not QHD (but is much better for battery)
- Zenfone 3 Deluxe *HAS* LED light (only 3 colours prior to root)
- Zenfone 3 Deluxe *HAS* adaptive brightness
- Zenfone 3 Deluxe -LACKS- Infrared (IR) which is a big loss
- Zenfone 3 Deluxe -LACKS- No FM radio (not such a big deal to me anymore)
- Zenfone 3 Deluxe runs Marshmalow 6.0, LG v20 runs Nougat 7.0
- LG v20 is more repairable; easy to disassemble and replace parts
- LG v20 allows for dedicated MicroSD slot for expandable memory

Bootloader unlocking is a breeze (mine came Bootloader Unlocked by the vendor, who installed the Global ROM w/Google,I've since TWRP'ed & installed the EU ROM,much better).
Hoping for CyanogenMod,but,in the meantime, this is nice, just gotta disable the CleanMaster/MIUI bloat (There's a S***LOAD of it,enough to even make Samsung blush,LOL) with TiBu or SD Maid & you'll be good to go.
Whichever device you decide to move to,hopefully it'll have some support from both the mfg & the development community. :good:
ehm... i just don't get it, you chose this phone because it has some features right? and you looked at the specs table too, right? you knew, or at least i did, that there were a few things missing (rbg led for instance)... so why buying it?? it wasn't even a cheap choice, you could have made different choices, you could have gone for a s7 edge if you like big screens for instance, probably even cheaper right now.
auto brightness is there, it hasn't been removed, it's just bugged atm but it's a quite common issue with early releases of softwares, you often hear referring to it as a "lazy sensor"...
the phone you'd like to replace yours with is a totally different phone :/ it seems to have a hifi dac as well, but i couldn't find any real specifics about the chipset... is it as good as the one you're leaving? from the specs i could find on asus website i would guess probably good but not as good? anyway i don't see any mention about hifi dac's on your post, so i guess you don't/didn't care much for it..?
camera is supposed to be a downgrade from your v20... big time. no argue there.
support? asus is quite slow releasing software updates, MM arrived on zenfone2 models in late august/sept, with many many issues and bugs. so my question here would be: when is it ACTUALLY going to see nougat? and are you familiar with asus zenUI?? it's heavy...
so... are you sure you want to trade your v20 for THAT model? for that price??
if you're unsatisfied with your v20, and i can understand it to some extent, just be smarter with your next choice
in my experience phones sporting qualcomm SoC's tend to be supported for for a longer time, and faster. but if you tend to change your phone every 1.5 years you could easily go for a samsung too... and right now IMHO if hifi dac isn't your top priority s7 edge is probably the best choice. price, camera, battery, support. all the package. you have no budget issue, maybe pixel XL? it would have a qualcomm aqstic dac which isn't bad at all... same as htc10.
anyway, good luck with your choice
Um... I don't post often. But, the phone has adaptive brightness. I'm using it right now.

Of course I checked the specs. It ticked most boxes. Bigger battery was a huge plus, IR, FM radio, one of the best RAW manual shooting UI for the camera on the market (etc etc). But this isn't a LG v20 "this is why I love it" thread. There's obvious concessions that need to be made. I clearly underestimated the customisability of the 2nd screen. Even worse, some email notifications (such as new emails) that come through - if the screen is locked/off, the audible notifications don't come through. Perhaps a bug - but pretty average when you spend big dollars on it.

HiFI DAC. The biggest marketing spin for a smart phone feature. I'm no audiophile...but I believe I can determine 'quality'. If using a good set of earphones/buds, I don't notice a tremendous amount of difference between this phone and others I've used. Far too much marketing spin was put into this. B&O branding, etc. LG's focus for this flagship is focused on the wrong areas. Instead, they could have focused on a speaker thats LOUD (hence 'loudspeaker'!). Its far too quiet...

I have no experience with MM personally, nor with ASUS so that information is somewhat helpful. I'm also not familiar with the UI...but I wasn't with the LG version either when I came from 5+ years of Samsung from G6 to the G4...and it was quite easy to get used to it, i doubt I'd have any problems or complaints with the UI based on the reviews I've reached and watched on youtube?

If i don't switch to a current phone in the market, I'm keeping an eye on the SGS8 by early-mid 2017. I was turned off the Samsung S6 and 7...their designs started turning int Apple iPhone clones - solid body, built in battery, either a 2nd SIM support (OR SD card, not both). lack of FM radio, no IR....I don't care much about the radio any more, but the deciding factory was a dual sim phone that supported B28 700Mhz. 5.5" phone is preferred, 5.7" the largest I'd probably go. I hate front-facing speakers which ae typically found on HTC's...they get filthy over time. Bad design if you ask me. DO these have boot unlocks and root? There's the big one...

Thanks for the suggestion. I checked the Xiaomi's latest release. No dual SIM support covering band 28 700Mhz. I must say, I am left baffled wondering why all bands are just left as active/achievable depdning on the country. There's NO reason NOT to have them all. I think their latest-release model only has a chinese ROM with support for other countries languages...rather than a global (or country specific) ROM. The dots for the menu/back touch buttons (which i know, are programmable) just looks wonky. Byut yes, the biggest thing it has going for it is bootloader unlock and root, which is huge.

Iphone clones? You mean HTC Mx series clones, which apple and everybody else has copied.
Auto brightness is not bugged. Maybe it just works better on T-Mobile units?

I have a T-Mobile unit and while auto brightness doesn't work great, it's nowhere near as bad as OP suggests. I've never had troubles seeing it in direct sunlight.

In direct sunlight it goes to 100%. I'm not sure what issues people have. You can watch how it adjusts itself. Maybe people hate the speed? It does it by increments not all at once.
To be honest, I think the op is ranting for no good reason other then to rant.

As I said abovr, it's probably just an OTA update that is required on the H990DS to make it work as effectively as the other variants. I've done that now and can confirm it looks to be more responsive. If it's set to auto,
don't make any manual adjustments to the % bar... As regardless of the scene, if you lock and unlock the phone in different lighting situations it's only then it won't adjust.

I'm looking at going the other way from a Xiaomi Note 4 and looking at the V20 because of the dual sim and band 28
Have you seen the Xiaomi mi Note 2 , there is an international version that is dual sim and supports band 28

Looks like great specs. Problem there is I believe it might only be 2G capable on 2nd sim. In Australia, the big carrier 2G networks are turned off as of tomorrow at the time of writing this. 2nd sim must be able to support 3g voice calls with data working on the other sim (that doesn't require it to be dual active: dual standby can work but must use some of the newer chips that support the functionality, namely the new snapdragons)

I'm in the same boat myself with the 2g network being switched off , I have not been able to find any info on the mi Note 2 confirming 3g on the second sim although i do belive the snapdragon 821 is capable of it
The redmi note 4 that I have with the x20 is capable of this although I'm not a fan of miui , that's one of the reasons I'm looking at the V20 because of the dual sim with 3g capability on sim 2
@63holdenolden what are your concerns with the v20? I can sell the phone as much as I can hang crap on it. None are perfect.
The 2nd screen is customisable.
It can show recent apps, any app in the app drawer, music controls, etc.
Just go to the 2nd screen settings menu.

No real concerns , just being thorough as the v20 will probably be my next phone
I know what you are saying about none are perfect , I cannot seem to find one phone that ticks all the boxes for me but the V20 ticks most of them
How has the reception been for you , I notice a few posts about low signal strength
It would be good to get some local feedback
Thanks

So you're saying, when main screen is off, i can still "customise" my 2nd screen? Go into settings of 'when main screen is off'. In my ROM, i can only choose from Sound profile, wifi, flashlight, bluetooth and capture. Nothing else. (In fact, check the same for 'when the screen is of'. Go to quick tools...there's 5 options. You could argue it's for security, certain stuff can only be accessed when the phone is properly unlocked. That should mean when the MAIN screen is on, you could theoretically pick the apps you want to appear on the 2nd screen, but you can't, Only 'recents'. Same thing for the upcoming events - screen only shows one event. You can;t scroll or view the next (eg if multiple in 1 day). I don't know why they've put so many ceilings and limits to the 2nd screen, it's far from useful

Yeah that's another strange one for me too. I typically only maintain 1/5 of 4G reception despite being in 4GX zone where I live. In the city it's never a problem, but where I am (Telstra) is pretty poor. That said, it's not much different to my G4

Can anyone tell me if the LG V20 F800 Model has an ir blaster i can seem to locate mines. Thanks
Hello there , right now I have 6s Plus, before that I had s7 edge so I know there was some bugs related with Samsung.. I wanna the truth from you tell me if there is any bug , any , and the minimal.. I heard something about the red color on the screen and Sam released an updated to fix that, is it true ? Does it fixed ? Any other bugs ? Please tell me the truth because I am gonna spend a lot of money
It's a great device. There is a red heavy color scheme by default but you can adjust colors manually if you want in the display setting ...I use basic profile. Perfect for me.
I had the s7 edge and this one had much smoother sides/ corners and no home button which is where mys7edge decided to crack the screen.
Battery is really good for me on latest oreo... maybe just a little worse than s7edge but its 500mah less so the is that
Otherwise youwill have to decide...lol
Opinions are like assholes.... everyone has one....
Good luck

Yeah for sure. Flesh tones are perfect now etc. You can even adjust the manual red yellow blue colors tho..
I don't know of any "bugs" really.
There is even an equalizer...although I do miss viper.
I don't want to root yet.....
So you have noticed the red color on your screen too ?
I got mine and no red is seeping in so it looks like that issue was fixed in software rather then being a hardware.
Seems their adaptive display software wasn't taking into account just how good the amoled displays where and this has since been fixed.
Otherwise a very solid device although if you get one also get a case with it as the glass can be rather slick on these big screen devices.
Battery great which i had the unfortunate job of testing at the hospital (never needs to charge it after 7 hours).
The US models like the 950U of course do have a locked bootloader which is annoying but not the end of the world.

I have MS and was exposed to the flu at some point during the weekend.
Although i never actually got the flu my MS went nuts and started messing with my left lung.
It filled with crap and i started having a very hard time breathing.
Once ambulance ride later and i found out my resting heart rate was over 120 and my oxygen levels were in the 80's.
Of course one tends to use their phone a lot during these times and i only got to 69% after heave texting and phone calls.
The s8 are very good phones and though not perfect as none are it comes close to being the best you can get .
I baught it , i dont see any bugs yet but its too small lol .. compared with s7 edge i fell it on my hand very small, but its lighter
Does give the appearance of being small since its so slim but that a lot of screen.
The s7 edge was only 5.5 inches in terms of display yet the s8 is 5.8 and you swear its thinner but its actually 3 mm thicker
It is 3mm less wide though since they effectively did away with the the basel.
So you got more screen at a lighter weight.
There is also the 8+ which is just bigger period but at 6.2 inches it feels more like a phablet to me.
Its weird how we gotten use to that basel and having it gone makes things seem smaller when they are not lol.

It all depends on where you are since oero only started rolling out again last week .
Depending on the model its available here https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/development
Given you area you likely got one of the international models so the official update in the forums is likely the same as your model type.
I just wonder which programmer thought it was funny to give the update the last four letter spelling crap. lol.
