I have not found a thread yet so maybe it's just mine. But.... I recently flashed cm7 nightlies and for some reason my slide is running way hot. To the point whee it causes system instability. I dunno if the cpu settings are wrong (i havnt changed them but i'm in the mood to start experimenting right about now) and thats causing instability?....... i dunno at this point im at loss, has any body else fought this issue and could give some clean input i would appreciate it thanx
Could be your battery is going, try a different battery if you have one. Mine did that and was fine when I switched batteries.

well if thats the case i wont wont play with the phone too much and just go buy a new one tmrw. Or do you know of any good extended batteries?
A lot of people recently have discovered that by flashing some of the recent CM7 Nightlies (Nightly 130ish on up) that their CPU's have been running at full capacity no matter what. Try flashing a different ROM like the ChaCha or maybe even CM6.1.1.
would an app like titanium back up allow me back my data to the point where i wont have to re-download everything? because ive spent more than a few hours downloading the apps i like for my phone (not to mentions hrs on downloaded games )

Yes, all your apps will be backed up that you choose, then you can restore them later on.

i've noticed also that my phone runs hot only after prolonged game play for some odd reason.......
My phone was a beast before 5.0 with huge battery life and flawless performance. Now it will hang on screens and the battery is starting to remind me of the S4 Has anyone been able to track down why the battery is draining faster since this update.

my phone is more of a beast after the 5.0 update.. so there is nothing to track down to me.. battery issues seem to be limited to certain ppl and not everyone.. lots are having amazing battery life.. if its not working for you then try installing kk again maybe?

Not my first cruise here. This phone never even glitched before the 5.0, not the same performance or battery since so there is something to track down.
Any change after a factory reset of your phone?
Same issue here after 5.0. Battery drain and phone overheats after a few minutes of use. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
It seems that I am having issues as well. I have tracked the problem down to something in google play services and exchange email sync. My phone battery settings page shows that my phone is always awake.... If I do a factory reset it no longer happens. But as soon as I enable my exchange email it starts to do the same thing. My phone turns in to a nice hand warmer because it gets hot in my pocket and dies in 5 hours or so. Try a factory reset and see if it still is giving you bad battery life.
When I do the factory reset and try to do a restore of all my apps I get the same problem. When I do not restore and set my apps up from scratch it seems to work well until I add exchange email. Ill do some more testing and report back.
I dont use any exchange service just Gmail accounts and they are not on active sync, I have to swipe to sync them. Call me lazy but I dont want to Factory Reset unless its proven that its going to fix it.
Locked up so bad today Had to pull the battery for the first time since I bought it in December
No way to guarantee a FDR will fix your phone. I can tell you that it fixed mine. Battery life was terrible and the phone would get so hot it would go into cool down mode. After a FDR everything is as it should be on 5.0. IMO people should FDR after any system updates as large as the Lollipop update just to make sure all the KK files and data are gone so there are no conflicts.
Amen to what newman said i would factory reset before complaining about problems. I haven't updated to 5.0 yet because i really don't see a reason to just yet but i would definitely factory reset for peace of mind if i did.
I did a factory reset twice and still same problem. Battery drains and overheats. I find it weird that some phones have the problem and some don't.
But it definitely is a problem and I don't really "complain". Some people just ask for help which I don't think is the same as complaining. Like Bobby, I've been doing this for a while. I've been rooting and jacking with android phones since the og Droid.

Yeah i probably shouldn't of said "complained" didn't mean to offend anyone so sorry. Just curious after you factory reset did you give it a few hours to see if the battery drained/overheated before restoring/installing apps or anything else?

No worries man.
No I have not done that but I will try that and see what it does.
I too was a Rom swapper in a previous life but dont have time these days to keep up and needed a rock solid daily driver so I stayed stock on this phone. Please let me know if the reset does fix the issues. I hate to reformat all my stuff again for nothing. What a shame though to fugg up a great phone like this, you would think by now they should have it figured out so this doesn't happen. Or at least leak it early so the rom chefs could have a chance to find the flaws before the release

Rapidly draining battery.
Freezing S Health fixed my drain and heat problems. Seems that it was keeping the phone awake so it could track footsteps in the pedometer..

How did you figure that out.
I played around with s health a bit after loading lolipop, and noticed thats when it heated up on my phone so I froze it in titanium backup, but didn't restart. Apparently the pedometer was still keeping track of the step because it was still running. Restarted the phone and haven't had the issue since.

Im confused, you can use Titanium Bu on a non rooted phone
Weird stuff started happening - after changing my battery, phone became... Different. By different I mean much smoother and faster, bootlooping almost vanished (though this problem could be due to high temperatures, might need reflowing my motherboard). Anybody got similar results? No other phone did something similar to S5. It may sound funny, but I started loving my phone again, even when running completely stock Touchwiz. Previously it was becoming a complete lagfest.

Well, screw it - I'm bumping this thread almost 1 year later. I've noticed the same thing with my old S3 Mini as well as the S5 a few years back when I first had to change my battery. Performance and stability increased alongside battery life back then, which was really weird, I agree. Now I think I need to swap the battery again but I'm never sure when's the time because I get used to bad battery performance and then tend to forget how good the phone has been with a brand new battery
*Battery drain very fast even screen off
*Slow charging again
*Low sound in speakers
*Camera quality poor
*Over heating also when not in use
*Sometimes screen shows black/white
*Apps still crash
How much you have issue from these??
I can feel that battery can be a bit worse, my battery drains more when I watch YouTube, but no overheating or slow charging. Everything except battery life is good for me.
Yes, battery draining is huge....
After updating i see very often my wifi not working, it's randomly disconnecting

Well, I didn't want to update since they updated the bootloader and now I can see that was a good choice. In your case I'd flash back the april build since it's stable.
The the May update for version 8.0 cause a wipe after unlocking the boot loader? Or is that only happening on 8.1 beta update?
Can someone clearly confirm, please?
what the fook do beta testers do
simple bootloader unlock will wipe data too.
From what i read here it is beetter not to update but wait....
Luckily I can't relate any of below listed issues!

Yes, it's always better to wait patiently and observe, not rush into something without informing about it.
No issues here, in fact it's the best build released yet imo
For me it's better than April one.
Zero issues so far. I did a clean install a couple of months ago because clearing my GSF to get Oreo quicker (I know, I know ) led to some issues. Have been enjoying this phone twice as much since. The clean install made my phone a very stable device once more and I've had zero updates with this and previous update so far
I dont know what you guys do to your phone, really.. Last May update up and running without ant issues (stock 8.0)
I canĀ“t notice any difference. Seems to be only a security patch.

Yup, Unlocking bootloader does wipe your data when in your May patch.
No issues here either, all running sweet as before.
Everything's fine for me. Let's not panic over one single report of issues.
To OP, I guess you've already tried to fully stop and restart the phone (not just hit restart button)? If this does not help, I know it's painful, but Hard Reset could solve your problem.
Last option is go to warranty to get it fixed.
Hello!
Just got a note 4 from my friend to play with since he's not using it anymore. The problem is that the phone heats up a lot whenever its on, even if the screen is off.
My guess is that the processor receives too much power from the battery? Or is it possible that the problem is related to the CPU? Or is it the battery?
Right now im tempted to buy a new replacement battery just to see if the battery is the problem. But i hope for some advice if you guys have experienced this before. Thanks!
Update 1: Changed the battery. The drain is much slower compared to before but the phone still gets really hot. Any idea why?
I have the same problem. I am not sure why overheating happens but I think about few things: constant Wi-Fi activity, a lot of installed apps, low free memory.
I just ordered a battery to see if its the problem
Yesterday my phone was very hot and very slow. I thought battery can't be the reason but I was wrong. I replaced my few months used battery with my old one and phone worked normally. So battery can be the reason for overheating.

I tried nemesis and erobot but they were pretty laggy since i had to use minimum clock speeds or else it gets hard to hold the phone cause of the heat. Also i think one of them had spacelemon kernel but i couldnt change the clock speeds and the phone became unbearably hot so i quicky changed to bliss then superstock
Got a new battery today will pop it in when i get home.

When im in the OS yes it does. But when i was in TWRP last night it was pretty normal unlike the time before the new battery. Also the idle drain is disturbingly fast i left it on last night and when i woke up today it was fully drained. Still trying to find out if there are apps causing the drain
Maybe latest firmware cause that. I am planning to flash 5.1.

Please post the results.
It runs relatively cooler (like cool enough that i can use it without a case without burning my hand, it just gets warm) on rulinglite rom which is on the 5.1.1 version so it does have something to do with the firmware maybe. The battery still drains too much though even in safe mode so im not sure anymore on whats the problem on my note 4

Unfortunately nothing i try fixes the overheating i read at a note 5 forum that his phone overheats constantly because of the too many charging cycles probably damaged the motherboard. I think that might be the cause of overheating here too.
Also no problem with unmounting or anything else. Just the overheating and the massive battery drain even when the screen is off

Sad to say that these note 4's probably cant be used as daily drivers anymore i have to charge mine to every 3 hours lol since thats all the battery life it can give on a single full charge
Such a shame since the screen is so good and the camera is super crisp too. I will probably just use it for some daylight photography haha
Have you tried simpl rom?
Using genuine samsung batteries or 3rd party?
NFC on,bluetooth etc?
Tried with mem card and sim out?
Which model you have, exynos or qualcomm?
Have 2x910C here and no probs.

I have C version of Note 4. I bought new battery but I still have problem with overheating and random memory card unmounting. I have a lot of applications and latest firmware. I didn't tried to use 5.1.1 firmware and don't know how to solve this problem.
