Hello,
I bought a refurbished Note 3 phone on Amazon.
I tried to install Android 5.0 as described here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/general/guide-t2983873
This failed. I tried to install a new PID file: HLTE_EUR_OPEN.pit
Now the phone is bricket:
I only get the message: Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please
select recovery mode in Kies and try again.
This doesn't work because in Kies I get the message:
The model information cannot be verified.
Contacted Samsung, they said, they cannot help me.
Any idea what else I could try?
Uwe
Where does Odin fail ??
Why flash a pit file ?? Its probably why you have a brick .
Sent from my SM-N930F using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Well the question why flash a pit file is easy to answer:
I followed the infos, given at android pit:
how to get android 5 0 lollipop on the galaxy note 3
(I cannot post the link)
"If you're experiencing an ext4 error message, you need to download the correct PIT file for your device (Google your model number and "PIT file" to find one). Then check Re-Partition, click on the Pit tab and then the PIT button and locate the file. Then continue."
I experienced an ext4 error message.
But my question is:
What can I do now?

You should ask Android pit whatever they are or take to a service center.

Boot to Download mode and report the exact model of your device.
Refurbished samsung phones are disguised most of the time.
Well, what should a service centre be able to do that I am not able to do?
I am electrical engineer and experienced embedded system developer.
I just need some hints.

It's OK.
Try one more time to flash via odin using this file and make sure :
- Before flash, completely shutdown the phone, take out battery for 10min.
- Use the included PIT file.
- Check also NAND Erase All in Odin options.
Good luck.
Thanks a lot for your hints.
But it didn't work yet. Error messages:
ODIN:
Re-Partition operation failed.
Phone:
Erasing user data partition
PIT FAIL: TOTAL SECTIONS (30777344)
Any idea?

I've been reading many threads over the last 3 days, and I can't get back my SM-N9005 LTE 32Gb.
My N9005 (Portuguese TPH) bricked doing a firmware update from 4.4.2 N9005XXUGNG1 (Portuguese TPH) to 5.0 Lollipop N9005XXUGBOB6 (Poland XEO) with Odin 3.09. Odin said success (PASS), but phone never rebooted.
Solution #1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2531224 Thanks @msmercy42 I learned a lot from it but none of the N9005 unbrick.img worked for me.
Solution #2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2625332 Thanks @ValenteL finally my N9005 goes into ODIN/Download mode.
However, I belive that solution #2 isn't going as smooth as it should. This is what I get when I get the phone to start from SD card:
Code:
[COLOR="Lime"]BOOT RECOVERY MODE[/COLOR]
CHECK BOOT PARTITIONS. .

And then, Odin recognizes the phone.
Now I'm able to get Odin to recognize the phone, but I can't do anything with it. I've tried:

I think you are actually doing everything correct, the reason is probably due to a corrupted MMC chip unfortunately.
That also explains why it failed during your first firmware update.

how should I solve this problem then? new motherboard? new MMC chip? ...
Assuming the chip is gone, is there anything else I can try before going to hardware repair?

AFAIK Lollipop ROMs boot on KK bootloaders, so that shouldn't be the problem.
Have you tried just to do a factory reset and see if anything happens?
If it doesn't work, what about installing a custom recovery from DL mode?
If that works try flashing a small AOSP rom.
EDIT:
Yes, if the MMC is corrupted, a new motherboard will be needed, unless ofcourse it's possible to do any HW repairs.

If I were you, I would try to install TWRP recovery through Odin, then install a custom AOSP ROM.
If that works you can try test the MMC with software.

:/ thanks for your kind help anyway...
Should I expect someone else to confirm this, get a 5.0 PIT, maybe a 5.0 unbrick.img for the microSD card trick, or are you 100% sure of that and I should stop pursuing the utopia of getting my phone unbricked?

I would probably not give up either, you can say there is no harm in trying what there is to try.
Using a debrick.img from a 5.0 Android should not make a difference, but if you can find one, why not give it a try?
I have found 2 pit files you might try, AFAIK they are both recent:
http://www.4shared.com/get/lrO_9qAoce/CSB_signed_HLTE_EUR_OPEN_32G_0.html
https://hostr.co/ndxkZa6KqRTF
You can also try use the "Nand erase all" feature in Odin 3.09, but I think I've read somewhere that it requires you to have a backup of your EFS to restore properly.

Appareantly the "Nand erase alle" setting formats the MMC, but that means you have to have a backup of EFS, else you cannot restore your IMEI... Thats what I think it was about. Sorry, about the pits, that was all I got.
Yet I can't thank you enough, since you're the only one how even tried to assist me with my problem so far!
I have another question yet... is it too late to create a EFS backup?
I've speed read some threads about Nand erase and that could eventually solve my problem.

Unfortunately I don't think it's possible to backup the EFS without recovery/working android. So if it's deleted, you will just have another bricked stated, not being able to use it with your provider.
Have you tried just to flash a bootloader through Odin, see if that works? Or does it just quit instantly?
You need to flash with a PIT file and repartition checked. At least that's what I gathered from looking at the issue.

Did I completely screw up my phone?
Can anybody help me get my phone back?
Been trying all night to find a solution to the same problem. My nephew did the same thing to his phone. I don't own an s5 but have gotten pretty familiar in the past several hours. We tried flashing the pit file and that at least got us a Samsung splash screen and into the stock recovery. Was never able to find anything else that would successfully flash in Odin. My guess is he was on the latest ota and didn't see the part where it won't work until he tried it. Any way, I saw someone fixed this issue on an att s5 by flashing three other tar files in Odin. Couldn't find those same files for Verizon last night. Was up till 3:00 am fighting this phone. I will let you know if it works when we get our hands on the files. And if you fix it first, please let me know.

Seems as if it wants you to repartition it.
Worth a try perhaps.

I think you mean repartitioning, right?
Hit the appropriate button in Odin.
The pit file is integrated in the CSC part of the multiple stock firmware.
Where can I find the special button in Odin? I'm sorry but I don't know what it is. I have the firmware downloaded from sammobile.

Dunno if it's always in the same place on different Odin versions.
Pic should show what I mean.
If not displayed search for "odin Samsung pit" pics.
Seems to me that Odin might want the pit file separately.
Either you can search for it here in XDA or extract it from your CSC file by renaming the end ( I think it was lz4) and opening the archive to copy the pit to your Odin folder on the desktop.

Is it multiple?
I understand what you mean by multiple file but I don't know how or with which program I can divide it and insert it in the 4 fields of Odin. I have a single file with the extension .md5.
Then how do I find the CSC file from the firmware to extract the PIT file?
You can use SamFirm tool to download stock as a multiple file.
Have to check "binary nature" box for getting it.
Otherwise it comes as one part file.

Then I started using Samsung SmartSwitch (new Kies) and it told me I had a new update. I tried installing it and it failed.
So phone was stuck and error message showed ".. update failed .." and so on.
I decided to put the phone in download mode and flash the stock firmware via Odin but no matter what I try, everything fails.
As of right now, I've read and tried multiple things. Like this:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/help/wont-past-s5-powered-android-screen-t3225682
When I go to download mode on the phone, here is what reads on the top left:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SM-G900V
SYSTEM STATUS: Official
REACTIVATION LOCK(KK): OFF
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE (CSB)
RP SWREV: S1, T2, A1, A2, P1
SECURE DOWNLOAD : ENABLE
UDC START
The following guide shows very good instructions with all the files but I am unsure of which version I should be using or even the file for that version since there are SOO MANY files there. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784880
A little detail answer would really be appreciated.
Thank you!!

Downgrade Binary 3 is not possible
AP SWREV: B:3 K:1 S:2 (B:3 is your binary)
Yo can try using combination file metod for dissable OEM Lock
Google FRP is pretty tough. It uses a different partition for storing lock status. so flashing DATA partition (Factory reset, Wiping, etc) wont work. Also flashing system partition (flashing a new rom into system partition, Updating rom, etc) wont work. This tool may worth checking out.
FRP bypass apk
