My 6P is not rooted and wont be anytime soon. Looking for a way to increase the over all music volume. Seems like the last 3 "notches" of volume doesn't increase at all. Almost like it gets to a certain point and even though I'm increasing the volume it does nothing. Is there a way to get the overall music volume to be increased. Could it be the headphones I'm using? Or the music players? I tried Google music for a while but it's so data and memory heavy I switched to Sony music, which I love, has a built in album art finder and equalizer without root. Seems like the volume is the same on both players.
I doubt what you're asking is possible without root as the files that would need to be edited are system files. To my knowledge, you'd need root. Any sound mod is going to require root & a custom recovery to flash. There may be methods I'm not aware of, but 0 that I've seen over the last 6 years.
There's a way to eliminate absolute volume in Bluetooth in the hidden developer options but I doubt that will help unless you are using Bluetooth headphones. There's also a Volume Booster app in the Play Store that I have no personal experience with but it gets some good reviews. Have you gone into settings / sound on your phone and checked what the level is set at for media volume? It's likely not set at the maximum possible level unless you changed it yourself.

I am one of those people who listen to music mostly for background noise while I work. This means the music has to be quite low. I use ear buds to muffle out the outside noises. However this means that the lowest volume setting becomes too high. For me, most mp3 players suffered from this problem. Until I started using Rockbox firmware on my Sansa mp3 mplayer that offered 84 levels of volume control.
The Samsung Epic in comparison only offers 16 levels of volume adjustment. Is there a way to improve this volume level control? I briefly search Android Market but did not see anything relevant. May have overlooked.
I hate to be a douche, but i dont think more volume steps is all that necessary.
I use these "Sony Earbuds", they have there own inline volume controller so i can achieve practically as many steps as i can imagine (analogue adjuster)
It totally needs more volume steps. Is it specific to this phone, or does it happen on all Android phones? I've never used another Android phone, so I wouldn't know.
Well I am on T-Mobile and use my phone for listening to personal music. I was obviously v disappointed when the media volume on my phone was on MAX and it sounded very quiet – like it was only on half volume.
Anyway, after some searching about I found an app called VOLUME BOOST. This is a widget you stick on your home screen, leave it ON and when you plug your headphones in it increases the sound by what sounds like around 40-50%. So it’s quite a considerable boost (if you excuse the pun).
I have tried other music apps with EQ but adjusting the gain although makes the music louder, it really distorts it, makes it incredibly flat and any bass just sounds awful!
So from this, the VOLUME BOOST app is not simply a GAIN BOOSTER. It really IS a volume booster. Therefore, what is it changing on the device to get the increased volume!?!?! Which is what the phone should HAVE anyway.
So does anyone know a permanent way to fix the volume so it is at it’s maximum capability like what VOLUME BOOST does?
The reason I want to find this out is so a) I don’t have ANOTHER widget to sap my battery + clog my home screen and b) the trial is only 7 days and although it’s a cheap app, I have an objection to paying for things that a £450 phone should already be able to capably do.
Cheers.
By the way, the VOLUME BOOSTER app is found on the market place for anyone interested who has low sound volume. THIS WILL FIX IT. I promise you.
Finally you have someone telling you a fix without telling you to download a new player and adjust the gain.

Not sure if this is where this goes or not, but since i have so few posts, i can onpy place it here. Just in case anyone else is having issues. My evolvedrom final rom kept breaking my alarm. Turns out anytime i uninstalled any app using the settings and manage applications portion to to so, it would break my alarm. just a little fyi. To get wicked volume, i used the qpst method to raise all volumes to 4 instead of the stock 2 setting. Throw in poweramp and, the sound is freaking LOUD!!! i love pandora but i just listen to it and add the artists it chooses to poweramp. same random music, only much louder than pandora... Rock on dudes!!!
I recently had to wipe and reinstall Hyperdrive 7. I previously had a way to bypass the default headphone volume, but can't remember what it is. I'm not talking about the warning about hearing damage. I'm talking about the behavior when you first plug in headphones and the maximum that it will start at is 3/4 volume. I just use my phone audio in the car to connect to the radio, so it's annoying to always have to turn it up to full volume. Anyone know the trick?
Bump
Earlier this week, I read about this app called ViPER4Android, and it gives your sound volume a big boost and you can apply all kinds of other filters and eq effects.
Do a google search on the app name and you will find several articles about it and how to install it. For instance, check out the articles at higonandroid and jellydroid. The jellydroid article points to a download that contains a ton of effects you can add after installing ViPER4Android.
It might not be the solution you used before, but maybe it will give you the result you want.
So there used to be a cool trick I used to do in EMUI 5.1 using an app called earpieace.

Basically, Huawei probably has a sort volume booster during calls and it went to effect if you used that app. Since you weren't in a call, it would apply to media playback instead (This is just speculation though). But now in EMUI 8 it's gone and we're back to the crappy audio we used to have with the Mate 10 Lite and Honor 7x. You didn't even need to use the app's volume booster function, just turn on audio through earpiece, plug in a headphone, and get insanely better sound. But now, unfortunately, it's gone.
Edit: The moment I turn on audio through earpiece, the sound jumps a little but then goes back to the usual volume. Can anyone help me with this?
Edit 2: It also seems Huawei reduced the volume, bass, and treble from the earpiece. Also, I need to mention that doing this did not harm my phone in any way. The volume booster of the app actually decreased the sound and I used this trick for many days without my phone ever getting any weird audio problems and no distortion whatsoever. It's also good to know that this audio boosting was done by the phone itself and not any app.
Ahh damn I'm going miss this so much
