This is just a heads up to Note 5 developers that may not already be aware. The Android O(reo?) Developer Preview is now available for download! It's only for Nexus and Pixel devices of course, but just in case any devs wanted to get started early on dismantling it and porting it to the Note 5, I thought I'd just drop the link here. Here ya go!

Wouldn't that be something - We've had a hard enough time getting a LOS 7.1.1 or even a custom kernel for thr stock 7.0 Samsung roms.

Since the device specs meet almost the same to Nexus 5, is it possible to build hammerhead AOSP builds (as is, or official AOSP) for our Note 3?
I was thinking since the M developer preview 3 is out, if anyone could port it for our device.

It would be still difficult, I think we should wait for Google to release M source code and then the developers work from there

Unless there is an official nougat release for Note 4(which will never happen), there is almost zero possibility of getting an nougat port, remember note 4 & note 5 are entirely different devices & it would take a lot of time of do something like this & even then stability might not be there, although there are already many Note 7 ports available, which contains exactly same functionality, but all are & most likely will be marshmallow only, if you want nougat, Lineage Os & other roms based on it are your best shot.

The Note 3 is not upgradeable to TouchWiz Marshmallow, but there are rom ports that are touchwiz marshmallow for that device, besides, I don't quite remember the dates, but, I think the note 4 had Note 5 ports based on marshmallow even before having official marshmallow.
According to this, I don't see why someone couldn't port nougat touchwiz based rom without it being LinageOS rom.

Let's see, personally i don't think it would happen, Even if it does, its will never be as stable as Marshmallow without official nougat firmware & it'sā a time consuming process, besides if you follow the threads , you can see that none of the devs have shown any interest so far in doing the same, they are supporting note4 for a long time & have moved on to other devices & note 3 has a much active development community than note 4 , so, no point in comparing these two.

I agree on that, even if it's possible to port, it wouldn't be as stable as an official update. And yes, note 3 development is much bigger than note 4's, and the exynos variant is not a huge interest to developers, as snapdragon is much easier to work on.
Maybe someone will port note 5 nougat, but it wouldn't be in a near future, or stable either, or have the desired support we want.
I'm afraid the kernel and bootloader will be the main issue here. The N4 is stuck with M kernel and bootloader, which is very likely be the dead end to this potential project. Plus the M firmware would most likely not work with the new Nougat software. One can only try but I think stability and performance wouldn't be optimal even if the port was able to actually boot and run with the M firmwares of the N4. This is why dev's are not jumping on this with enthusiasm. This is likely a no win situation and since it takes so much time and work porting these newer TW software, it's simply not worth it to do this for little to no reward other than self pride. It's definitely not enough to persuade me to take this on but I may try and see if I can get a booting TW nougat rom on my N4. A lot has changed in the Nougat framework so I have very high doubts but you never know.
Hi. so after almost a year and a half of using my 6p I'm kinda getting bored of this "stock" experience HA
Miui8 is ported however it is so out of date and it doesn't support xposed so it is not really ideal. after searching i found out that Flume 6 form Meizu have rolled out in beta this April and I was thinking if anyone here is having planes to port it for us. I am gonna follow this guide to try and port it however i have zero experience in this so I am not sure if it is gonna work out for me:

link to download flyme 6:

If you are determined to use Xposed then you need to stay on a Marshmallow based Rom, so whatever Rom you find that is compatible with Xposed is going to be dated. Xposed never worked with Nougat based Roms and Android is already testing Android O. Unless you like outdated versions of Android Xposed is pretty much dead.
Looks like the sources are out

Let the development begin :fingers-crossed:
Yeah....for Nougat, who cares? lol
I very much doubt many devs are going to be falling over themselves to build a Nougat rom when most of them are currently trying (with no help from OnePlus) to develop Oreo roms.
Also, why is it N? Wasn't the 5T supposed to launch with O? GSMArena seems to think so...
Yep but let's release a new device first before we can real get the development going?don't want to finish things do we ?
Android 8 without xposed is useless for me.
I'm glad that op5t comes with android 7.x.x
Hey guys! Some very talented developers have been working on unofficial releases for a while already, and I am unsure whether to go for their takes or wait until an Official version is released. Any predictions on when this might happen? Or should I just void my warranty and go for Vache's build? Thanks!!!
I might also like this. While Motorola says they will release Oreo for Potter, they seemingly haven't provided any timetable for that. I am a bit hesitant to install a LineageOS nightly on my daily driver, but I would love having the option, especially if it turns out that Motorola botches the Oreo upgrade.

I have been using Vache's/fAIyaZ 7.1.2 build for some days now. Only found one bug, Skype wouldn't manage to access the camera for video-chatting, but I found a solution for it (activating Camera 2 API from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/themes/potentially-google-camera-port-t3684264 ). Other than that, everything works perfectly (and a lot better than the Moto built-in tracking suite they ship the phone with).
Applying an unofficial fix to an unofficial port sounds a bit problematic. Do you think it would be possible for Vache/fAlyaZ to fix this in their port somehow? Or would it be more of a gapps thing? Or neither?
It seems so insane to me that there is no official LineageOS for Potter yet? I couldn't have even imagined that it wouldn't be released quickly when I bought the Moto G5 Plus - I though it is such a popular phone, so well reviewed for the price, able to be unlocked, etc. How can it no be better supported by the LineageOS team?
Sorry to necro this thread, but Oreo has now been officially released for Potter, after seemingly forever. What are the chances of getting an official 15.1 build for Potter any time soon?
I know Vache's unofficial build is much loved on here, and I think there's a 16.0 unofficial build I've seen flowing around as well, but some of us would rather go with an official build if one is available.
Don't mean to be a d*ck, but just follow the trending topics on the forum and you'll see where everyone has flocked to. At the moment I believe there's no need to program Lineage for Pie, when we have one extremely good AOSP based version online. Install the Pie version of the system that can be shot from a bow and never look back... Vache did a great job for as long as he did it, and a couple of other contributors too, so <3 thank you
now everyone seems to be somewhere else, that's how it goes
all the previous versions and knowledge gained from them kept being passed forward to ports from the next version of Android as well, so you'd have to look at Lineage Pie. Lineage16 seems to still be too raw for Potter, which means you likely won't see any official version soon. With Pie out, everyone's efforts turn to it, so you can see also that the 15.1 thread is pretty much dead.
