Mouse function on a stock controller using full Nougat Andoid Rom - Shield Android TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All
I've just updated my Shield TV 2015 Pro to Android TV. Is it possible to switch on the right joystick on a stock controller as a mouse for all apps?

If you are in full Android nougat by @zulu99 like the title of your first post states, then yes by installing DroidMote Client and Server in your Shield TV, then connecting the client to the server; once connected the mouse function will be enabled by default and ready to be used with the right stick. you can left click with the L1 button.

[Q] Control Android TV stick with Android Smartphone/Tablet

For now it doesn´t matter if it only works with certain combinations of Stick and Smartphone/Tablet
I just want to know if it is even possible.
With Control I mean that I can see the same screen that runs on my TV on my Phone/Tablet, because I am thinking about buying a Nexus 7
and those stupid things don´t support Video output in any way
Hopefully somebody can answer me this question
As always i´m sorry for my bad english :cyclops:
I use the mk 802 III remote free from the play store to control my unrooted mk809. Works fine. If your stick is rooted, then droidmote on the play store also seems good, but I've not tried it yet. For this one you download a server app on the stick (paid) and a free contoller app to your device.
You don't get a mirror of the stick display on your phone - it basically turns your phone screen into a touchpad which controls a mouse pointer on screen - similar to a touchpad for a laptop. The only thing for the mk802 app is you need to keep switching modes for operating the pointer and operating a scroll function. Easier to do than explain, and its fine once you get used to it.
There are also remotes for xbmc if you decide to go that route (and why not!) which are a bit easier to use with that app.

DroidMote, is not only a keyboard, a mouse, a multi-touch touchpad and a real controller with six axis and 16 buttons, with DroidMote you can play also with all multi-touch-only games even if you don't have a touch screen or your device is hooked to the tv
And with the last versions you can use also your hardware controller via DroidMote Client to play all multi-touch-only games
DroidMote Client control Android, Windows and Linux

[Q] Ouya IR remote options

I'd like to know about remote options, specifically for use with XBMC. I don't have a Ouya yet, I just pre-ordered this week.
I have a bluetooth mouse already, but would like something a bit easier to use for simple pause/play/volume changes on XBMC.
Would a USB IR receiver that shows up as an HID device be compatible with the version of Android on the Ouya? Something like this?
http://dx.com/p/multimedia-ir-remote-controller-with-usb-receiver-for-pc-1-cr2025-26368
Apparently it should show up as a keyboard/mouse, according reviews.
Has anyone tried using the controller as a remote for XBMC functions? How well does that work? It seems the ergonomics would make it difficult to use.
So, I'm responding to my own thread. It seems that as long as the USB IR receiver shows up as a keyboard/mouse, you can map the XBMC keys to what ever the remote uses.
While reading about this, I noticed some posts from Windows Media Center users who apparently need to use remotes that are certified for WMC in order to perform all the functions. *Sigh* I'm so glad there are things like XBMC, things written by people who are dedicated to making useful products.
I hope I can use a WMC remote as I have 2 and my WMC PC is dead.

Let us know if you get one that works. I would love to have a remote that works.

Do you own an android phone or tablet? If so then a controller app is way more convenient imo for managing xbmc. I use yatse. It's better than the ouya controller as it has a lot of neat shortcuts. I use it for xbmc on my Windows machine too. The only negative thing is that volume control doesn't work in the xbmc build that works on the ouya. It probably will further on.

Using the OUYA controller in XBMC isn't too bad, although I found the Official XBMC Controller App to work really well, too.
Truthfully I'm satisfied with using my phone for extended use and the controller for quick stuff. If i had a bluetooth or HID controller I'd probably use it, but I wouldn't go out and buy one for the OUYA.
On a side note, I was looking for an app that works with the OUYA itself and not JUST XBMC. I'm assuming that's what yatse is that Mertzi mentioned, so I'll probably be trying that.
EDIT: I realized yatse is a XBMC controller, is there such a thing as an app that can be used as a universal bluetooth controller?
why not just get a blue tooth remote instead. You won't need some IR dongle uglying the place up then. And even better it doesn't require line of site.

I have both a phone and a tablet. I know you can use them to control the Ouya, but it's far less convenient than a remote control. I guess it comes down to personal preference.

I've thought about using the PS3 remote, but I read some issues with connectivity and having to reboot the Ouya. Have you had any experience with a bleutooth remote, either the PS3 one or some other model?

Of course, everything is subjective, it was just a tip and why I said imo. I love that I can scroll through my library on my phone, both in file mode or category mode like I have for e.g. tv shows and start it from my phone without having to navigate anything at all in XBMC itself. Swipe from left > tv shows > choose show > click on episode and it starts playing. I agree that a controller app is inconvenient if you want to use it for navigating in xbmc, cause then you have to look up and down all the time between your tv and phone's screen. That's why yatse is great, you don't have to look on your tv until what you want to watch has started playing.

I hadn't thought about it. I wasn't really planning on using the Ouya for media. Thus, I haven't tried it. I don't have the Ouya setup right now. I'll try to remember, and tinker more with it this weekend. I do have a PS3 remote. I can also try syncing my Logitech DiNovo Mini that I use with my HTPC and see what happens.
I have an AirMouse I got from Amazon. It has a thumb keyboard and a gyro mouse cursor like a WiiMote. Works great. The cool thing is that its rechargeable and has a built in IR remote on the back for basic stuff like Power, Chan+/-, and Vol+/-. I think I paid like $15 for it.
That would serve multiple purposes.

Little keyboard emulating IR dongle that you can program to use any remote.

the receiver and the remote from ZOTAC works... kinda.... I cant get my USB UIRT to work with the zotac remote tho, would be gr8 if the uirt could work well with ouya. Thats all Im missing to have a complete living room being controlled by my 10" tablet. Bought a Griffin beacon for the soul purpus of that.
If any1 gets the uirt to receive and work on ouya properly i´d love to know how u did.
MCE Remote and IR work in OUYA XBMC app perfect for me. What doesn't work is the "O" button to select the XBMC app from the OUYA dashboard. But I can navigate the dashboard with the MCE Remote's mouse type pad and arrow buttons fine. It's power button also works like OUYA's center button.
Anyone have a good free android app to program the OUYA controller buttons into the MCE?

I use Flirc (beta firmware) with a Harmony One. The remote I programmed as a Revue (Google TV).
CWM works simply because Flirc acts as a keyboard. no problem navigating, selecting, etc.
Android apps is a bit more work. I used a guide* on forum flirc as a starting point.
* I can not post website link, google "[GUIDE] Flirc getting to work with OUYA"

Universal remote?

I'm just setting up a new office lounge.
At home I've used a Vizio Google TV (which has pass-thru HDMI) to control the TV, the Google TV box and the DVR cable box. I'd like to get a Nexus Player for the office but as it doesn't have HDMI switching, I'm wondering what people are doing to reduce the remote clutter?
The TV is a brand new Sony Smart TV (W790B) - unfortunately couldn't wait for an integrated Sony Android TV .
I presume the NP remote is BT so that creates an additional layer of complexity>
I've used some logitech universal remotes in the past which were "ok" but would love first-hand feedback.

You could use a flirc receiver and use any IR control to control the NP.
I am using the Logitech Smart Control with it. There isn't an official profile for it yet but there is a working compatible profile for it. The only key I can't map to it is the menu button. Also, if you rapidly press the buttons, it sometimes loses the connection for a short time. Other than that, it's been awesome only having to use 1 remote!

Thank you for the great suggestion! Do you know how the Smart Control communicates with the NP? Is it by BT? What "compatible profile" did you use?

The Smart Control has a unifying receiver that does both IR and bluetooth. This is where I got the steps to set it up.
Logitech | Forum Guide
Here is a copy and paste of what was said if you don't feel like accessing the link:
1. On the app, go to Harmony Setup > Add / Edit Devices & Activities > Devices > Add Device
2. Select 'Computer' from the list > Windows
3. Select 'Yes' when it asks you if you want to screate a new Activity with the newly added device.
4. Select devices to be included in your activity
5. Select 'Watch PC' for Activity Type
6. Once you've finished up selecting all the input for your devices, it will go into a bluetooh pairing mode to allow you to pair up the remote with the windows computer.
7. Navigate to Settings on your Nexus Player > Remotes & accessories > Add Accessory. Give it a few seconds and it should find a "Harmony Keyboard". Select it, and your'e done.

[HELP] Cursor/Mousepointer on NON-Rooted Shield TV Pro

Is this possible ? heard people have the touchpad on the controller to work on tablet and portable but not on det Shield TV.
I would LOVE to have this fixed when a whole lot of my sideloaded apps need it for touchinteractions.
Can't root the device since one of the main apps im running and want to keep running is Get TV (Norwegian TV Provider) and once rooted the app will not work, rootcloack ect can't hide it from the app, feel like i've tried everything.
Heard some had it working before the 1.1 update ? why did the support fall out after this and why wasn't it fixed ?

Sorry nvidia has said that it is not a supported function of android tv so it was removed in updates after 1.1 . Does not seem like they have any plans to add it back either. i installed the full android rom from zulu99 and use my jxd7800 as a controller and the touch screen as a mouse with droidmote.

Darn, was really hoping it would come back. But with full android, is it possible there to use the right stick as a "mouse" ?
Haven't tried unrooting a pre-rooted rom before but that might be a solution to my problem in that case, but will i then be able to nativly play games from the NvidiaHub/NvidiaGames + stream from my Gaming PC with a unrooted rom ?
Thanks for the reply ! Will keep on trying to find some good way to go about this, perhaps finding a bluetooth TV remote with mousefunctionality might work ?
I have set Logitech K400 (with unified receiver on a USB Hub) and with the app Logitech Keyboard Plus You can set whatever language You prefer in Android settings as the app adds an entry for the K400. You have to discard the Bluetooth request at the beginning.

Shield Tv apps?

I've rooted my 2015 shield tv pro and installed Full Android os. Is there anyway I can get the Nvidia apps back on the device? Also my shield controller no longer functions as a virtual mouse, is there a way to fix this? Thanks.
If by Nvidia apps you mean the GeForce now and Nvidia hub, then it has been mentioned many times in videmao.it forum that you need to edit /system and /vendor build.prop, then go to play store and download Nvidia Games. Read the thread for detailed instructions.
It is better if you change build.prop to look like Nvidia tablet K1 to have everything.
About virtual mouse, works with DroidMote server and client installed on the shield TV, thanks to droidmoteIME. I use it everyday like that and work great everywhere, in any app, so is not limited like in stock that works on certain apps.
