I'm thinking of picking up a shield or shield pro but I need to find out if it's possible to sideload Covenant Eyes. Can someone with an account login to their site, download the apk and see if it will sideload?
sorry mate im all for free porn
How about you buy a shield & find out for yourself? Hate when someone asks for help when they could simply help themselves

touchy touchy. I won't buy an Android TV device if it won't sideload this app. If I do buy it and it doesn't work I've got to return it or sell it which is a hassle. It takes far less time and money for someone who already has a shield or shield pro and is feeling helpful to download the apk and give it a whirl. Perhaps some of the more helpful members can give it a try. Otherwise feel free to go troll someone elses thread and leave this one alone.
bump. Any takers?
I have an even better Idea, that should not only help yourself, but everyone else who cares to pay for their stuff, instead of just using Kodi, like everyone else.
Go ask the Provider to push out an AndroidTV App!
Yeahh considering the Content we may never see it in the PlayStore. But that should not stop your from Sideloading it onto the Shield TV.
Now before you get all "Well that's what I was getting on about!". To answer your Question. Yes you CAN sideload most Apps on to the Shield TV.
Please NOTE I ONLY SAID MOST! Andy let us be very clear about this AndroidTV ≠ Android! What just works on your Phablet stands a great chance that it just won't on the Shield. That of course comes down to whether you can control your App with a Gamepad, or Remote. If your App is touch heavy then it will not probably work unless you have some Logitech Keyboard Touchpad thingy to control that with.
Again the best option here would be to go back to your Provider, and demand an AndroidTV App, with full compatibility.

Mine came in today, Im debating on returning it before even opening. I started doing research and it seems the Android for tablets is still not up to par with the competition. I was an early adopter for Android (had the G1) but im have second thoughts about being the guinea pig for the tablets.
Anyone have the same feeling and decided to keep it? I may just try it out and return it but I need to see what Amazon return policy (restocking fee, etc)
I'm loving mine. I rarely use my laptop now. Overall its stable, occasioanlly the stock launcher and browser will fc but not enough to be an issue.
Now "the competition" may have more apps specifically for tablets, more are showing up for honeycomb.
Give us some idea of what you plan on using it for/ what you plan to get out of it and might be able to directly respond to your concerns.

Why don't you just open it and find out.
As if there weren't enough useless threads like this already. This is the equivalent of posting 'ive just woken up' type messages on facebook. Totally pointless. Just return it if you dont want it. You dont need to tell the whole world.
bah double post..clicked submit twice =/
Ive been waiting on a good Android tablet to come out for awhile now. I almost jumped on the Nook Color because of the IPS screen, but I wanted a bigger screen.
I plan on using it for
1.) Browsing the web
2.) Watching Youtube videos
3.) Watching Netflix
4.) Hooking up to HDTV to watch MKV and XVID files
5.) Playing the occasional game
6.) Reading Comics
Now, #3 has me concerned because Ive read that Netflix doesn't work on Honeycomb. Has this been hacked yet? #4 has me concerned because of codec support and the fact this tablet may not be powerful enough for certain files formats. Anyone have experience with this? I have a MacBook Pro that I use maybe once a month, if that, mainly because I use my desktop most of the time.
Return it and stop crying into your milk.
I love mine and have also used Android since the G1. Considering how far Android has come since then, I have all the more confidence that Honeycomb will be much improved over the coming months.

you havent opened it...?
not trying to come off as a ****, but maybe you need to open the thing and be your own judge. You decided to use your own credit card, pick your own vendor, now open it, play with it, and then decide.
Its only a tablet.. Not a baby. No remorse if you give it back.
I think a lot of these threads are popping up from posters who are looking for someone to make up their mind about this unit, when it should be themselves who choose..
my 2 cents.
Any experience with Asus and updates? Will the Transformer get Ice Cream Sandwich? I guess only time will tell...
If you use it you'll love it. But yes, pretty useless post, do you really need a bunch of anonymous folks telling you what to do?

1) Has been bad for me on 3.1. There is no single browser in my experience, which supports flash and doesn't lag.
2) Excellent for me in the app
3) Doesn't work. Being skeptical, I want to think nothing might work out soon.
4) mkv's are not supported properly, as per the Xoom's video playback thread. As suggested in other threads, Tegra 2 is not a platform you want to have, for video playback.
5) Games are very good on this thing.
6) I read a couple of books. The experience is very good.
BTW, not to be disrespectful, its ridiculous to have a gadget just beside you, and contemplate returning it, based on someone else's subjective experience, without you trying it.

Thanks for the post. I sort of jumped on ordering this without fully researching what it was capable of doing. I figure if my Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant can play back the video files I have, why not a "more powerful" tablet. If Netflix and HDMI output of HD doesnt work or is poor, then thats a show stopper for me. Tablets are media consumption devices.
Why did I order it? Because I was tempted at the time and they are hard to come buy so I ordered it. This was before 3.1, which I thought would fix a lot of these issues.

Does any body have the apk or have a link to it?
First off, it's against forum rules to ask for/post paid apps.
Secondly, can you seriously not do a Google search for it? It was rediculously easy to find.
Thirdly, PAY THE DEVELOPER THE $1.65!

This makes me sad, just pay the developer rather than undermine his work. Developers are the reason we are continually able to do brand new exciting things with our Tablets and practices like this would encourage me to take my work elsewhere...
$1.65, you could go beg on a corner and make more than that in 5 minutes.

First, go read the forum rules. I would say re-read them, but chances are they weren't read at all.
Second, Here is the link I found, it's in something called the Android Market...not too sure what that is, but it's $1.65.
Third, it's $1.65. I know, hella expensive. I wish the internet had this thing, it would let you search for things on the internet... Does anyone know where I can Google this idea of a website to search for things on the interwebs???
Its worth paying for dont go warez and support our devs! Btw I just got done playing altered beast with my ps3 remote on my Xoom via Gensoid rom ;D

Indeed it works. It's an extremely easy setup to change the PS3 controller's MAC address to point to the Xoom. It works quite well, but I do not see much use for it really. There aren't many major games that I would use it on. Possibly the Zenonia series, but I've been done with them for awhile now since I beat them so many times.
Word of advice though. It's a good idea if you have a spare PS3 controller that you don't ever use. Reason being: This setup changes your controller's MAC address, and it will need to be re-synced with the PS3 through the USB cable if you ever want to use it there again. Just a useful heads up if you are a frequent PS3 gamer as myself.
i have a ps3 controller and no ps3
use it connected with USB HOST connection and with fpse for playing resident evil - was fairly impressed with that - but wireless connection would be better obviously
So, I'm waiting for my Ouya right now, should be here within the week, and I'm wondering if anyone has found a camera that works with it. I have a Microsoft Lifecam HD mounted on my 42" HDTV, and if anyone could help me with figuring out how to make it work I'd be eternally grateful. I'd love to be able to Skype and whatnot on my TV without having to use my PC. Also totally unrelated, but how does everyone like theirs so far? I've been seeing a lot of negative stuff about the Ouya, I just basically need some confirmation that it does, in fact, rock.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Hm I might try to hookup my USB cam to it. I don't know if it works but sideloading a videochat app (Skype?) and trying it out should be fun. Might do it this week.
And I have to say, despite the bad reviews, my OUYA does rock. I already spent 20 dollars on apps and countless hours in front of the TV. Something I never saw me doing ever again.
I don't know what the people are expecting from it. Of course you don't need it if you already have a PS3/360 and/or a Smart TV but some seem to not understand that.
I hope the XDA community catches on to this thing and development speeds up so we can have nice stuff on our TV.

I can't overstate how impressed with this little box I am. I picked one up last month on a trip to the US (I'm from Canada) and thought I would play around with it and see how it would work in Canada. With Unblock US and an Amazon account with prime I have been able to access all my prime amazon content on it. As well as US Netflix, Hulu, ETC.
XBMC is very easily sideloaded onto it as well, with or without being rooted which opens up a whole new world of content and goodies.
And once rooted you can do even more cool stuff. I followed guides to add the google app store, remove unwanted menu options, change the launchers, add game controllers, move apps to external drive, and much more. I just installed Google Play Music and now I have complete access to my google music account on the FireTV which is very cool. I'm sure there are tons of awesome apps that work on the FTV. Another favorite is Droidmote Server so I don't keep having to unplug my external drive to use a mouse or keyboard (which many google apps need)
I sold my 2 Apple TV 2's for a very nice profit and I'm going all Fire TV. The only advantage I think to the Apple TV's is if you have itunes and are invested in the Apple Ecosystem which I was not. The menus and everything are much speedier and my ATV2's were prone to random crashes while in XBMC which drove me crazy.
I'm really looking forward to playing around more with this unit and seeing what all the development community can do with it. I think its already awesome and it has a ton of more potential.
question for you
I am in Canada also and use unblock us. Have you tried using the A&E, Lifetime or History Channel apps? For whatever reason they wont work and I am wondering if somehow they realize that you are not in the US. I have no problem with any other apps. Trying to figure out if its a Canada issue or maybe an issue with the app's of fire tv.

You don't need a us credit card address for unblock us, it's a Canadian service from a Canadian company. You need a US credit card for the amazon service.

Those particular apps aren't working for me either. They just crash back to the home screen. I think its a Canada thing as unblock.us does not officially support Fire TV yet. If you get yours working let me know and I'll do the same.

So Ive been looking around I dont see any FAQs in terms of Amazon fire TV add-ons. I seen some videos online where people were using Kodi, what exactly is that? Plus XBMC and they were viewing movies that were ?free? to watch and Tv shows as well? How are they doing that? Plus I seen an Amazon Fire TV on ebay for 225$ that offered free movies, shows etc. Thats over $100 retail price for something Im sure they just downloaded into the Fire TVs... Just looking to get some knowledge on these, thats all.
thanks.

Try using search as there have been a few threads that will answer your question. Not FAQs, but there are posts.
Yes, you can use xbmc & addons to watch free tv & movies. As for the person selling the AFTV for $225, probably not a bad deal as soon you won't find any rootable AFTV's unless someone figures out how to root the current versions. You can still find the older versions of AFTV (and by versions, i mean firmware versions) around for $100 or less.
Thanks. Can you tell me what the firmware is?

No, because you are senior member here, and to me that means you actually can look the info up yourself. I don't mind helping people out, but you I think are just being lazy.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2793823 6th item will tell you how to install from other sources. Doesn't matter which firemware you have, if you have the one that lets you turn that option from the developers menu, cool. if not, do what it says in the link.
And all this **** is posted on these forums, I suggest you go looking thru them. Though why we don't have some of them stickied makes me wonder...
Honestly I'm at work and wanted to get something going . it's hard to search on my cell, honest truth. I planned on doing more later

I'm sorry, for whatever reason I have a bad attitude today. I shouldn't be taking it out on others.
I don't think the rootable firmwares have the "install from unknown source" in the developers option. I'm pretty sure that came in the unrootable firmwares, which you'd have to have the custom version installed.
But that link I gave you will show you what you need to do on yours, will need a mouse to use the sqlite app. Takes a few to understand the UI for it, at least took me a few.
And while I tend to use usenet & thepiratebay to download my shows, I found the 990.ro add on for XBMC/Kodi seems to work very well. I watched the latest Supernatural using it.
There is an add on thread for XBMC where other addons are mentioned. I'd look for that.
Thanks brother

And I think that the mods would be quite happy if you would keep conversations like this on PM level. Filesharing and streaming of illegal content is a big no-no here!

Going to point out that no one is talking filesharing here, and as for the 990.ro site being illegal streaming, no way of knowing. They could be doing something illegal, or maybe they got permission to share all the TV/Movies they got. But either way, it's a plug in you can get from the SuperRepo (spr.nu) repository for XBMC/Kodi. And I'm sure they wouldn't do anything to facilitate piracy.
Yeah I was talking about channels on the fire TV that are free or you can pay for. And getting setups like xbmc that are intuitive etc. Thanks
