Installing an update of a existing rom (Que)

Hello there, i installed a rom on my galaxy s4.. But kushan put a newer update of that rom.. what should i do? backup apps and just install the new rom above the old one?
That is called a dirty flash, or dirty installation.
You can do that. But there is a chance of problems.
A clean flash (wipe data, system, cache and dalvik cache) is generally recommended to avoid problems.

How to update to next version of Seraph08 CM13 in OP2?

I'm using Seraph08 ROM dated 4/23, how do I update to latest version Dirty flash or clean install?
Sent from my ONE A2003 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Dirty Flashing would be fine, but as you are on a month old build, I'd suggest a clean flash.
1. Download the latest ROM from here
2. Copy the downloaded ROM to your Phone with Gapps (arm64, 6.0, nano)
3. Backup all your stuff, if you want to.
4. Enter TWRP, wipe system, data, cache & dalvik.
5. Flash the ROM + Gapps and any other mods you use (xposed, V4A etc)
6. Wipe Cache & Dalvik.
7. Reboot.
8. Profit.
Dirty flash should be ok but, for good measure, wipe your caches after installing and maybe install the latest gapps alongside it.

About Unofficial XenonHD for S7 Edge ROM update

is there a way to update ROM instead of doing fresh install?
I have unofficial XenonHD for S7 edge
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/rom-xenonhd-t3544403
And I have Feb 25 ROM and dev recently released March 5th ROM, which fixes number of things
I need help with updating ROM but it doesn't support OTA because it's unofficial version.
Does anyone know how to update this ROM without resetting anything or staring fresh?
for updating the developer has put in this comment.
. Make a full wipe (system, data, cache, dalvik-cache). If you're updating ROM or have other 7.1.1 already you may not need to wipe data (just wipe system, cache, dalvik-cache)
try doing it without wiping the data as per the developer instructions but make sure you have a back up available in case of issues.

wipe which items

Please dev explain wipe which items for flash custom Roms by two.explain category wise for lollipop Roms ,marshmallow Roms and mi Roms.in some mi times full wipe necessary and after reboot into recovery and some marshmallow based on cm Roms after wipe all other than system but after flashing rom only rebooting ,rom is not start so I confused so explain in details if possible.
I asked for flash Roms by twrp
Clean flash: Wipe Dalvik, cache, system, data
Dirty flash: Wipe Dalvik, cache, system
Wiping internal storage isn't necessary usually. I never had a problem.
Also, when changing ROMs, ALWAYS clean flash.
You can dirty flash if it's just an update to the SAME ROM.

You need to read custom ROM threads very carefully before flashing because every developers always include flashing instructions in their thread.
So I don't think you need to ask this question

Reverting back to the 7.1.1 will require a full install and clean flash (FULL WIPE of all data and cache). Please be aware that all data will be wiped during the revert-back process, so do remember to backup your data in advance.
Stock Recovery:
Download Rollback Build and place it on internal
Reboot to Stock OOS Revovery
Wipe Cache
Select “Install from Local” and choose the downloaded build to install.
Reboot your device after installing the build. You have to re-enter recovery mode to Wipe data cache and Erase everything(Music, pics, etc).
Reboot your device again and you're all good to go.
