During calls, the audio (sometimes me, sometimes the other person, sometimes both) seems to occasionally drop out for a couple of seconds. The call stays connected, just the audio cuts out. This happened on the stock ROM, on a different but stock-based ROM, and is happening now on Slim6. I couldn't find any previous threads with this issue (other call issues, but I didn't see one with this issue). Is this a known issue? Anyone else having this problem? Any way to return US X727 to full stock for warranty, if no fix? (Also couldn't find a return to full stock thread)

Hi,
I searched many threads for my problem and I saw it mentioned in a few places, but there was no solution.
I've flashed the latest nightly build of omnirom (20 Jan - but this happend to me on older builds, from november, december). As it requires, I also flashed a JB modem (or modified kk - tried both). But, when I use any jb/modified kk modems, after any phone call, the speaker sound becomes very distorted for a random period of time (sometimes a few seconds, sometimes until screen lock/unlock, sometimes even after screen lock/unlock). All sounds are distorted (system, notifications ..). This happens only after phone calls.
When I tryed with an original KK modem this problem does not appear, but then the ROM does not work properly (no auto rotation). I can also mention that this problem does not appear if I use the headset, only when on speaker.
Has anyone encountered this problem? This happens for me with other ROMs too (CM11, CM12 (there are official nightlies), SlimKat), but on others not (like Paranoid, LiquidSmooth). Also, this problem does not appear on Stock rom (maybe because there an unmodified KK modem is used?).
Thanks.
Same issue here. I only use hangouts and it happens on my CM12 or CM11 based ROMS. Sound distortion throughout system until I lock/unlock or change sound settings (raise/lower volume).
I've seen a few ROM developers say it was a bug in their ROM they're trying to fix but I've never seen any working solutions as of yet. I hope someone can figure out what the issue if. I may have to go back to stock if this is the case :/
The earpiece on my Galaxy S4 (SPH-L720) does not work, so I cannot hear calls (or any other audio that uses the earpiece). The other person on the call can hear me fine and speakerphone and headphones work. I bought the phone used, so it seems like it would be a hardware problem, except for the fact that I am able to make it work by opening HwModuleTest (dial *#0*#) and pressing the receiver button. This creates a tone through the earpiece and the problem goes away until for a while, only to come back at seemingly random intervals, or when I reboot. All this was happening with the stock firmware (4.4.2).
I then switched to CyanogenMod 11 M12 (4.4.4), because I do not like the stock OS and because I hoped it might solve this problem. Unfortunately, the problem still remains, but I now have no way to mitigate it at all because CyanogenMod does not have HwModuleTest or something similar as far as I know.
I found a few similar problems on the internet, but they were are either unresolved or the solution did not work for me. A common cause was that the phone falsely detected that headphones were plugged in, but I don't think this is the problem because I used the SoundAbout app (as recommended in one case) to force the use of the earpiece and this did not fix the problem.
I was wondering if anyone had experienced the same problem or has any ideas of you to solve it. Thanks.I was wondering if anyone had experienced the same problem or has any ideas of you to solve it. Thanks.
Bump. Does anyone ever heard of this problem before?
Hi,
I own a Galaxy S4 i9505.
It's still running the stock ROM, with firmware version: I9505XXUGNG8 (Running 4.4.2)
For a while now, I'm experiencing an issue where once every 2-3 calls - I cannot hear the other side, and the other side is unable to hear me. (No sound at all)
After calling back (doesn't matter which side calls), the sound returns.
This happens consistently every 2-3 calls, and it doesn't help turning on speaker or performing any of the other functions during the call.
Has anyone experienced this issue?
Could this be a hardware issue, or will it be fixed by replacing the ROM?
I've read several occurrences of similar symptoms, but none were exactly as mentioned above.
I'll appreciate any help in the matter!
Hello,
I have not seen a thread on this nor has Google searches helped but I have an issue I wanted to post to see if anyone else was having the issue.
I use my phone for work and often have it on speaker phone, out of no where the call goes quite and the person on the other end of the call can not hear me anymore. Upon looking at the phone the speaker phone seems to get disabled and the call goes back to the handset. This happens often when using the speakerphone but certain calls are worse then others.
In one call I had the speaker phone get disabled about 10 times which was close to every 30 seconds or so. This is very very annoying, I have also rebooted the phone. At this time I am not modded and have less then ten apps installed and I am pretty sure none of the apps I installed are causing the issue.
I will note that I do have the phone connected to bluetooth a lot and when the issue happened I tried to disable the bluetooth while on the call but the issue persisted.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
Speaker phone and Bluetooth turning off at random
I am having the exact same problem. But for me this happens with Bluetooth and speakerphone. This is getting really frustrating for me and potentially dangerous when I try to switch back to Bluetooth while driving.
Have you figured out a solution for this yet ?
Hi all,
I've owned my S4 for a year an a half and out of nowhere started experiencing a huge issue today.
I have no audio whatsoever - earpiece or mic - when making a cellular call. I dial, and the call goes through (the other party receives the cal), but I have no audio. Even when plugging in a headset, still no audio. Incoming calls exhibit the same problem.
When connected to bluetooth, I do have audio + mic through the bluetooth device. As soon as I disable bluetooth, the issue returns.
All other apps/audio work fine - VOIP, texting, data... I can make Hangouts calls and the earpiece and microphone work.
I've rebooted the phone; that worked for a few minutes then the problem came back. I also did a battery + microSD + sim card pull, that fixed the issue for probably 30 minutes, then it returned.
I also flashed a new rom just to see if it would fix it - it didn't. Removed microSD, no fix.
I'm running Stock GPE 5.1 and have been for many months with no issues whatsoever, then this creeps up out of nowhere today. I've done some searches and other people have had the issue but I can't seem to find a definitive fix. Some report faulty SIM reader, but I have no problems otherwise with my SIM, and BT calls work so that would seem to rule that out?
Has anyone had this issue and/or fixed it?
Best,
-Dirk
OK so it appears to be hardware!
While making a test call, I took the back cover off and moved my finger around the upper area of the phone - near the SIM card slot - and applied various amounts of pressure. The in-call audio returned! However if I jostle the phone a bit, I lose audio. So some sort of connection in that area is loose or fraying or something.
Has anyone else had a similar issue? Perhaps tightening things would fix?
