I'm kind of in the same boat with ZE551KL. Is there a guide to install stock recovery and sideload?

download stock recovery and flash it, then sideload the firmware(download from asus official site)

http://www.asus-zenfone.com/2015/10/asus-zenfone-selfie-zd551kl-original-recovery-img
https://www.google.co.jp/amp/s/boyc...ze551kl-z00t-stock-rom/amp/?client=ms-unknown
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
reboot to recovery
adb sideload "firmware name"

Trouble reflashing ASUS stock ROM for ZE551KL

I accidentally tried doing a factory reset, and flashing an incorrect rom. So I lost the stock rom, and have no other rom to use. I tried using TWRP to flash ASUS's stock firmware from asus's support website, under firmware. Using firmware file: "UL-Z00T-WW-1.16.40.763-user.zip"
but TWRP tells me "E:Error executing updater binary in zip '/sdcard/TWRP/Stock.zip'
Error flashing '/sdcard/TWRP/Stock.zip"
I still have access to both adb, fastboot, and TWRP but I cant get an OS to install.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, haven't even had this phone a day yet, and already may have broken it.
I don't have an answer to your question , just got this phone yesterday and am in the process of figuring out how to root and install a custom recovery for this specific device.. I have found many methods to root but none for my specific model. I think you have the same model as I do and was hoping you could lead me to the place that will give me the files I need.. the box my phone came in has the model as ASUS_Z00TD (ZE551KL).. Sorry I wasn't of any help to you, hope you manage to figure out how to flash something that will get your device running again!

I used @rczrider 's post in this thread, and was able to get root. http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-2-laser/general/wip-root-ze550kl-1-16-40-763-t3275760/page3, good luck!

Do yo mean this stock recovery? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64441364&postcount=9
How do I flash it? just "fastboot flash recovery stock_recovery.img" ?
If so, I've tried that, and TWRP still boot when I try to enter recovery. Also, once I've flashed the stock recovery, do I just place the firmware on the root of the sdcard as 'update.zip' and try to install it from there?
Thanks for your help already, and sorry about the repetitive questions!

It keeps giving me secure boot error 1003 my bootloader is locked that is why I would need stock recovery back
You have to enable oem unlock under developer settings in order for a custom recovery can be used. I had this same problem when I first installed TWRP custom recovery on my leon.

I have the same problem and want to go back to stock recovery. Maybe the app Partition Backup from Play Store could help. I found this app after I flashed twrp. I just need the stock img to try to flash it back to see if it works. Could somebody with stock recovery try the app?

I have restored my stock backup of the original Moto x style/pure so it's clean no root or mods, can I just go back to stock recovery from twrp ?
I've tried going back to stock using the correct firmware but I end up in a boot loop, I'm hoping I can just abd the official recovery and I'll be able to install the ota

Just download the full rom firmware image that is the same version as you have installed, and extract recovery.img from it, you can flash this with fastboot or TWRP.

How to flash a simple .zip?

I'm trying to flash the Black YouTube from TBO but I can't figure how.
Tried to flash from stock recovery but I think I'm doing something wrong, because it didn't worked.
Can someone tell me the steps to flash this? Do I need a custom recovery or not?

Yes you need custom recovery.
Just download the TWRP 3.0.M2-0 and flash it via adb by using this command in cmd window -
fastboot flash recovery <filename.img>
Whereas, the <filename.img> is the filename of your twrp recovery which you will download.
For example -
If you have downloaded the custom recovery with the filename "twrp 3.0.x.x" then you have to type the following code -
fastboot flash recovery twrp 3.0.x.x.img
After flashing the twrp, now reboot to recovery.
Once you are in recovery, go to install section and locate the zip file (your black YouTube zip file), select it and then swipe to flash.
After flashing, just reboot the system. That's it.

First unlock your device bootloader and then flash the TWRP 3.0M2-0 recovery.

How to update firmware if you've already flashed TWRP

I figured out how to update after flashing twrp. Maybe obvious to some but I've seen questions about it.
The zip in the "Convert CA to WW" thread has the stock rom in a zip file. Open it and inside is a recovery.img file in it, extract it to your adb folder on your PC.
Download the firmware update from ASUS official site and save to the root of your sd card or internal storage (it will recognize both.)
Reboot into fastboot on your device.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
When that finishes reboot and your phone should find the update and ask if you want to install. Do so. You may need to power cycle first.
When you're done you can reflash TWRP.
Once you have TWRP you can flash Magisk or SuperSU as you see fit.
It's painless.
An old post from you, but thank you. This was really easy. I've spent 2 days trying to figure out how to upgrade without restore stock rom, boot etc. and lose all data. I was about to give up when I saw this post, I didn't expect it to work - to easy. But I could give it a try.
This was painless.
Then it took me 3 hours to figure out how to reinstall twrp again, it wasn't just to flash and reboot I had to boot directly into recovery after flash. But that is another story.
Thanks, you just saved me some time!

You need to upgrade to latest N - ...14.2020.1712.85, once you do that you should get Oreo as FOTA after reboot

Thanks, man.
Can I manually update with the recovery by downloading the rom?
I think, the FOTA won't arrive as I've rooted my phone.

When you flash stock recovery and update you unroot, so you will get FOTA. Just update to Oreo and then flash twrp and Magisk (or whatever you use) again.
I am rooted and updated to Oreo then chose updates involving battery improvement and/or system stability (downloaded to external sd), after installed the last update I flashed twrp and rooted again.
You need to flash stock recovery before update. The phone will find the updated with custom recovery but update will fail.
The site I downloaded stock recovery from is down so you have to search for it, or download RAW stock rom and extract the recovery from it

Thanks! I ended up having to use the 11.41.87.2 recovery in order to flash a Nougat update - it wouldn't work with the older recoveries.
