I cracked the screen but just the digitizer as far as I can see.. Screen has worked and digiziter for about 6 months seems 100% only 3 little hairline cracks. Ive waited because replacement cost so high and its not that bad doesn't stop function. I was wandering If anyone here has just replaced digi becouse thats way cheaper. And if this unit is one piece or they are actually separate and easy to replace separately from each other.

The Digitizer and LCD are glued together with silicone, which yes, can be separated and reseated, but it will not look or operate at 100% if you try to do it separately by hand.
I've repaired many phones for friends - a part time job has me fixing ~10 iphones a day - and let me tell you, it's not worth the aggravation or time to try to seat a digitizer on an LCD perfectly. Machines do it for a reason.
I can get LCD+Digitizer assemblies for the 6P at my shop in Canada, which run about $250 CDN (185 USD) + shipping/tax. Whether that price is better online or not, I'm not sure.

Hey fellas... I think this is my first post here. Been here so long I don't even remember.
Well I have a K-JAM... I made a mistake of not buying a screen protector at the shop. It's been about 3 months now and depite very careful usage, there are quite a few scratches on the screen. I was wondering how much it would cost to replace it.
Do I have to replace the entire screen or is there some kind of sheath over it that can be replaced hence minimizing the cost?
Any inputs would be appreciated.

Do a search on Ebay, there's a few listed there. Seems that just the touchscreen (top part, the one you probably want) is around $35, touchscreen+LCD is around $130.
I did a screen replacement on my previous phone, a SonyEricsson P800. The replacement itself was fairly easy (I replaced both touchscreen+LCD since the LCD was busted), but the touchscreen and LCD on that one were glued together forming one solid piece. Although seperate touchscreens were available for the P800 as well, there would've been no way for me to seperate it from the LCD without breaking the latter. It might be the same case for the K-Jam, forcing you to opt for the more expensive option. You'll just have to check first.
Also, have a look at the Service manual for more information, also about (dis-)assembling the K-Jam.

Depending upon the depth of scratch, have you tried a repair fluid and polisher?
There is a website in the UK www.mobilefun.co.uk that sell just a solution! No pun intended. For a few pounds it might be worth a try (or dollars depending on where you buy!)

@Juicey... I cheked it up.... but like most screens, this one seems to have the touchscreen sheath glued hard to it. So i guess that's out of the question.

today my hd2 fell on the floor and the display cracked. the lcd and touchscreen are still working fine, even in the area where its cracked.
Is there a chance just to replace only the plastic case on the lcd? Or do i have to completly renew it?

There's no plastic display on the HTC, nor anything plastic. The LCD is soldered to the digitizer and normally both should be replaced. They cost around 100$, and the replacement is about 200$ in the HTC center. You do the math, it's the price for a sec hand HD2. Otherwise, you can buy and change the digitizer (costs around 50$). But this is a very delicate operation to do by our own -you have to cut the LCD from the cracked digitizer and do many other things. As someone have said for some other reason "it is an easy operation, but if you have no experience in soldering, do not try to learn it on your laptop motherboard". So, your choice is between repairing it in HTC for 200$ and "repairing" it some other service for 100$, with questionable quality and voiding your warranty.
As you may guess, I have walked that road already. My HD2 was 1 week old. After some sleepless nights (as I was wondering what to do AND because the "perfectly working cracked screen" had cut my fingers) I sold it 100-120€ under the second hand market price and found a new one. That's also my advice to you. I.e. the first one. The second one is to buy a silicon cover for your next HD2.

This is probably a n00b question for the hardcore phone geeks out there. Apologies for that - I'm conversant in software but completely lost with hardware in tech devices. Thank you in advance for your help - I really appreciate it.
I cracked my LG Google Nexus 4 by dropping it. This means
there are spidery cracks all over the front screen
the screen is no longer reponsive
but the displayed image (my PIN lock screen) looks the same
and the phone is still receiving messages/notifications
I suspect this means the glass screen and digitizer (which is embedded in it) have to be replaced... but not necessarily the entire LCD housing. Is that right? The cost difference is >$100 between them. (Don't worry about the convenience/ease part -- I plan to take the phone to a very reputable local shop in any case.)

If you are not doing the work yourself, you will want to check with the shop first because they may require that you use parts they order. They don't want to install your parts and then have a problem that could be their fault or a problem with the parts you gave them to install. Check with them first. You'll need the LCD/glass and housing. I know it's a big ticket item, but you can't really expect the shop to charge you a flat rate when they have to do a bunch of work to replace a part that isn't really replaceable (the LCD minus housing). The shop may be able to order the part at a lower cost, though they might also include a charge so the part ends up costing more in total. When I replace LCD screens usually the cost of labor is much much greater when I have to unglue junk and replace pieces that aren't really supposed to be done like that. Even just swapping out the screen/housing is going to cost a bit in labor.

So I have to ask you not to apply conventional advice to the situation because I live in Ethiopia, where labor is cheap and Nexus parts must be mailed from the US or fetched from Dubai. Believe me, I've visited many shops and checked. Replacement costs about $30 in labor, which is also half the average monthly wage for industry -- the mobile shop guys are relatively very well paid and great at their work
What I'm still confused about is whether the LCD even needs to be replaced. If yes, for sure I'll get it with housing - but I don't want to buy an LCD if only the glass screen needs to be replaced. I am looking at the phone and the image quality on the screen is great -- I have a hi-res photo as my background and it has no damaged spots.
Recently got a GS5 and my mom doesn't have a phone right now so I'm handing my N4 down to her. The front glass is cracked and I wanted to get that fixed before I do. The digitizer and lcd are not broken, just the glass, everything else looks and functions fine. I guess what my question is, if I take it to a repair shop can they just replace the front glass or am I looking at around 100ish to replace it all? I'll be going in and getting quoted but just wanted to see if I got any input from here first, it will likely be a week or so before I take it anywhere due to this damn weather.

The same thing happened with my friends N4. The glass, digitizer and LCD all had to be replaced as they all come as one unit. Cannot get them separately.
Amazon/ebay has parts where you can just order the LCD/Digitizer etc, but then to separate them you have to have a heat gun etc. if you touch any part by mistake you will get finger prints or smudges permanently. Sure they do. FYI, the "glass" is[ the digitizer. If "everything works", then technically all that needs replacing is the digitizer.
However, digitizer replacement is far from an easy thing to do. Not only does it require some specialist equipment (suction cups, heat gun, glue), you're probably going to screw it up unless you've done it before.

You can buy just the screen assembly off eBay for about $45, which has the digitizer already mated with the LCD. However, this requires removal from the bezel (again, a heat gun is recommended), then gluing the new one back in. For $60 you can get the entire front assembly (hey, brand new phone!), which is the easiest way to go about things. I'd also recommend buying a new battery ($20) and replacing the old, tired one while you've got the phone apart.
It's not all that difficult to do it yourself. You'll need a T5 TORX driver, something thin, sturdy and plastic to pry the phone halves apart (you can buy screen assemblies that come with all these tools), and some patience. Do everything on a fluffy white towel so the little screws don't get lost. The tricky part is the little rubber gasket thingy that goes over the proximity/light sensor module. Most people who have done a screen replacement have found that reassembly screws up the prox sensor, causing it to always read "near" (meaning during a call the screen will stay off and you can't hang up or use the dialer). The common fix is to put the gasket in backwards.

I thought the digitizer was what recognized touch input? Either way I don't think I'll be doing any of this work myself, I'll just take it up somewhere for her for the repairs.

It is. It's built into the front panel of glass (which is made up of a bunch of different layers of stuff). Don't ask me how it works, it's all magic to me. But when you break the front glass, yet everything still works, that's the digitizer. If you look up digitizers on eBay you'll see that it's the front glass panel, with a cable and other electronic stuff attatched.
Either way I don't think I'll be doing any of this work myself, I'll just take it up somewhere for her for the repairs.

It's honestly not all that difficult to do yourself. Hell, send me the phone and screen assembly, and I'll do it for free. Seriously. I'll even through in a couple TPU cases I'm not using.
If you do take it somewhere for repairs, make sure you ask what they're doing. Replacing the screen assembly, or replacing the digitizer. For a $100 fee, it could be either. They could buy a $20 digitizer and the remaining $80 is in labor, but it'll take them a lot of time and effort, or it could be a $45/$60 screen assembly that takes far less time and effort to do. Personally, it costing the same, I'd rather have the screen assembly replaced, since replacing only the digitizer can lead to complications. Since it has to be reglued onto the LCD, you might get bubbles, dust/lint, dead spots, and that rainbow affect when you hold it in the light at the right angle.
Long story short, I have a LG G2 VS980W with a busted digitizer and glass. The LCD screen is fine, as there is no discoloration or dead pixels.
If I get it working, it will be used as a toy. I don't want to make a huge investment in it, hence not getting it done by someone else, but I would like it to be as easy as possible. I have no issue going into the components and swapping things within the phone itself, and I have looked up a number of dissemble replacement guides and videos and deal comfortable doing it myself.I have no issue opening the phone, but I never swapped out a digitizer or screen.

I'd say you should get a new screen. I got one for pretty cheap Ebay and it's working great.
The screen is pretty easy to break/crack while removing the digitizer.
I bought a Z3 to do this but the screen was shattered (my father, who did this fixes phones/laptops)
Even for experienced people, it is a tough job.
There's a high chance of cracking the glass and ending up wasting your time and money.
I am typing this as I wait for a whole LCD + digitizer assembly for the Z3 lol
Changing this kind of digitizers takes a LOT of patience, a good heater, and the correct tools.
I personally opened like 10 phones already and always perfect, thoug I know my limits and know that I don't have what it takes. ( the phone whould end up smashing the wall for sure )
Seems like spending a little more for the set is easier and safer in terms of me damaging something with this little repair.
Just ordered a replacement LCD, digitizer, glass, and frame off E-Bay for the LG G2!
It was $55, $5 more then without the frame. Having the frame not only makes installing it easier & I don't need to worry about the cracks that are on the current one!
It's coming from China, so hopefully in about two or three weeks I'll have a brand new toy!
