What Are You Using For WebView? - Moto Z Force Questions & Answers

Chrome or Android System WebView?
On the v20 WebView is actually disabled, on the Motos you have to go into developer options to change to chrome.
Chrome seems to run faster but starts stuttering after awhile.
The other option I suppose is not to use WebView at all and open in a chrome tab.

I go out of my way to turn off webview and redirect to chrome browser.

Display full version webpages

I know that there was a way to force the user-agent to display as desktop in other android phones, i.e. go into browser, type "about:debug" in the address bar, go into setting, then UA then select desktop. I tried this on my new Vibrant cause I was sick of it defaulting to the mobile sites and it caused automatic FC in the browser. Had to clear browser data to get it working again. Anybody have other ideas on how to do this?
Not sure how to do it on the stock browser, but I know that Skyfire browser has a toggle button built in for this.
Yeah I guess that most other browsers do. Stock browser = Fail.
I have dolphin browser and skyfire installed so I can open BBC in full.

stock browser and Google search: open in new tab in background

I use the stock browser and I set in options to open new windows in background, that is I want links on a page to open in another tab
While this works for 99% of websites this is not working with Google: it keeps on opening search results links into the same window
I have even set the same option in google's settings with no avail
I do not have this problem with firefox

Viewing/Inspecting HTML code of a webview?

Our school app loads a webpage within a webview and, like the right click > Inspect to view source and properties of a website in chrome, is there a way in Android to view the HTML/CSS etc... of a page loaded in webview? Alternatively, is there a way to figure out exactly the link of the page in the webview so I can enter it in a normal browser to Inspect on chrome?

Android system webview

I am battling a problem. Very annoying.
Web links keeps opening in chromes in-browser instead of links opening up in google chrome beta for android.
I think this is called android system webview.
How do I stop this behavior?

Chrome using background data even though disabled in Settings

I noticed that Chrome was using more background data than foreground data, so about two weeks ago I disabled background data in Settings>Wireless & networks>Data usage>Cellular data usage>Chrome and noted how much background data Chrome had used up to that point. Now, whenever I check background data usage for Chrome I find that it continues to increase. Can anyone shed any light on this behavior?

You probably need to either turn off sync completely for Chrome on accounts and sync under Google or switch to a different browser. Google Services is exempt from Doze and can turn on data, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS to sync even if you manually switch all of those off on your phone. The Chrome browser is part of Google Services so as long as you use it Google has more control over its use of data than you do.
Thanks for the tip, jhs39. I have turned off auto sync and will monitor Chrome background usage. I have also learned that leaving Chrome running in the background can allow it to eat data, so I am going to close it down when not using it. Do you have a browser recommendation for this Android phone?

Firefox has been solid for me; it's a simple download from the Play Store. I added the "u-Block Origin" extension to it, and am quite happy.
"Go to Settings -> Apps -> Chrome", and press "Disable". That will take care-of Chrome using background resources.
[SOLVED] Chrome using background data even though disabled in Settings
Turns out that the background data was from streaming audio from the websites of various public radio stations. Apparently, Android counts this as background data. Happens on Firefox same as Chrome.
