V20 H990DS variant which earbuds - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Hi I will buy a v20 but the sales guy said to me that V20 H990DS doesn't have B&O earbuds instead of that it has g4 earbuds is it correct?

you mean lg g4's earbuds?
in that case, the answer is no but it's not the h3 either, for sure. they look pretty close to the b&o h3, share the same fancy logo on the outside, but the shape is sliiiiightly different. there's no tag or inscription on the cord/plug, so i can't tell you what model they are... they sound pretty goodish, but not like a 150 dollar in-ear headset would. sennheiser momentum in ear sound better, just to give you an example, they are the only in-ear i have used so far, i normally like on or over-ear.
if you look for some youtube unboxing you should find them normally they are in the box, on the right, above charger+usb cable (where US versions have their battery), easy to spot

Headphones recommendations please

I don't want to spend a fortune on headphones, but would like something of reasonable quality and fit. I picked up some Senheiser HD408 headphones for $50 at futureshop. I have not opened them yet, but am going to see if I can get any good feedback on an alternative before opening them.
Please keep any suggestions below $100. There has to be some good 'bang for the buck' headsets out there.
Thanks!
Rob
I use a set of Motorola S10-HD bluetooth headphones and they work pretty well. Sound quality is good, they are really light and small, rechargeable and they are sweat proof so I can wear them when I workout (cause we all know how important it is to maintain ones figure). My only real complaint is that I have a huge melon head so the headband, which is a behind the head design, kinda pinches on the sides which after about an hour starts to kinda annoy. Other than that, which is more a personal design flaw than anything manufacturer related, I really like them. I think I paid like 60 bucks for them, so they are semi-reasonable.
JVC Flats. Walmart. Multiple colors. $15 or less.
Seriously, these are hands down the BEST headphones I have ever owned. The bass is BEAUTifUL...crystal clear sound, an unbelievable bargain for the sound quality you can get.
The earpieces are leatherish, cushy, and set nicely against my ears. If/when these ever break, they will be replaced with another pair.
My only negative comment about them?...they don't come in green.
Mk
i love my Aeriel 7's
Loud, crystal clear, booming bass. 50-60% volume is all my brain can handle on these (and I like it loud)

This was a tough choice given all the different kinds of headphones and pricing all over the place. I decided that I wanted something 'mobile' so big, bulky headsets were not the answer. I am not fond of earbuds, but decided to give them a try since they would meet the portability needs.
I picked these up:

It takes a while getting used to them fitting in your ear, but the sound is simply incredible! The only thing I don't like is that the male plug is not L shaped and the wiring feels a bit too flimsy.
Rob
I have Motorola so HD had them over a year and still like new. I think there is a HD 10 verson out
Check out the reviews and measurements at Headroom, headphone.com. Good recs at several price ranges

I will second the S4's. I have a pair of the S4I's, (used to have an iPhone) and you cannot beat the sound quality you get for the price. They are top notch, very comfortable, once you get the right fit, and I have 0 complaints on them.
The wiring is thin and feels flimsy but I have yet to have any issues with them. I've had them for maybe 10 months now. If you want to go more "rugged" they have the S5's which are the same thing only built to withstand more.
I keep going back to Sony's sub 20-dollar earbuds in the roll up case.
MDR-E828LP
Cheap as dirt, but astoundingly good sound.
Very open with excellent bass.
I keep trying "nicer" earbuds and keep coming back to these for the sound.
I have a set of Sony noise canceling ones that are excellent, they are available on Amazon.

Dre Beats!
I got a pair of the tour beats from www.booksuppliesplus.com. Love em. Best headphones I've ever had...and only $50...can't beat em.
V-Moda Bass Freq headphones. $12 shipped on eBay. They provide huge bass, great sound quality and block out a ton of outside noise. I've had a half dozen pairs since discovering them back in 07. Been the only thing I've used since then. Highly recommended!
I know you don't want to spend this much but when it comes to head phones you get what you pay for.
I bought a pair of Bose head phones 3 years ago for $130 and I use them everyday of my life during my job for about 4 hours. There super clear and have a very balanced bass but can be picked up greatly!
Just think about it. $50 now, then in a few months another because they were blown and so on or $130 for the next 4-5 years. Mine are in perfect condition and have no crakling even after the abuse I put them through.
Go to best buy or any place that has them on display and try them out, not the noise canceling ones though there $300! Also never buy headphones before you buy them.

I've had several pairs of these And I really like them. I'm surprised they still remain the best bang for the buck. I'd have figured something would have dethroned them by now.
I have a set of Audio Technica ATH-AD700's, but they do look pretty ridiculous. Good thing I'm too distracted by the awesome sound stage to care ^_^
Skullcandy Skullcrushers
If you like bass then these are for you they have in ear subwoofers I have a pair and love them I got them for around 40 on eBay... all of my buddies like them better than dress.... they don't sound leak so other people arnt bothered by your loud music the noise canceling is great I mow the lawn with them

Or you can do what I did, buy them for $20 at a garage sale. Brand new unopened package. I know, I got lucky.
Seriously though, the sound quality of these headphones is amazing. The other thing is that there is almost zero sound leaking. At full blast, people around you won't even notice.
If you want good feedback just check the amazon reviews. They're pretty damn fine

ALL EXCELLENT CANS and BUDS!!
Not sure I am allowed to post link to exterior destination, but head-fi.org is a better place to ask and headphone.com is a good place for info, not buy though since they're price is high.
Right now I'm using the Sennheiser MX580 as open earbuds and Etymotic HF3 as in ear monitors, both have excellent clarity. Both of this brand hav3 many choices at diff price though. Beside Sennheiser and Etymotic, you should also look at AKG and Beyer Dynamic, they are all professional brands for audio productions.
If you want an earbud with lots of bass just get the Palm Pre headset which cost $2, better than most $20-30 ones you find at regular stores.

You cannot go wrong with Sennheiser gear - but I suggest Aerial7 gear personally. Either way you are going to get some quality equipment.
Aerial7 gear = http://www.aerial7.com/ -- been a user of their hardware for ten years now - I would recommend their gear to anyone looking for pure 100% win.

Yeah i saw the headphones missing in the Box on Google Play... I am just worried about the audio quality of N4... If it uses the same DAC from the Optimus G then it would be great... There are hardly any DAC's compatible with the S4 Pro Chip, so i suppose we should get the same DAC thats in the Optimus G...
Any Thoughts on that??
I'm fine with no headphones I'll just go buy a pair.
I have a pair of Beats Solo HD's and Gummys.
Do we know if the aux port will support both audio out and audio in as well as the button?
The Nexus 7 aux port only supports audio out (no in or button).
On a phone, I'd expect audio in to be standard (microphone).
I have loads of headphones around that I could use, but because the headphone jack being on top annoys me I went ahead and ordered a pair of Tenqa Remxd.
So the wireless charger isn't included
At $299/349, did you really expect it to? It's probably going to be an extra $30-$50 accessory, like the Touchstone for those HP webOS devices was.
Eh, my G2x didn't come with headphones, so I don't really mind. Plus, I'll just use my LG HBS-700 Bluetooth Headset.
Not much of a big deal, those earphones that come with phones are usually pretty crappy.
I really hope the quality is at least close to the Wolfson DAC. That's going to make or break this one for me.
Ehh, I'm not too upset about that. Sure, they're nice to get with it, but back when I bought Apple devices, I'd always just end up selling the headphones to a friend for $10 or something, as I think they're (as in, most headphones that come with phones) are pretty awful. I'm not a big fan of in ear headphones anyways, so it's okay to me.
I was kind of hoping for some new headphones. My current ones have too short a cord, but I can't get rid of them because no one seems to make regular earbuds anymore. They all are these horrid squishy earbuds. I can't stand them in my ears. I need the solid form factor akin to the Apple earbuds.
Anyone know of a good brand (maybe even wireless option without some tacky band) for solid earbuds? I need something that can fit in a pocket and isn't made of the squishy buds that seem to be all the rage right now... I really don't want to have to buy some Apple earpods, but they are looking to be the only thing that's made without squishy-ness and with a microphone.

Actually, they're going to be the same as the Palm Pre ones, apparently, or at least compatible with the other touchstones with a Qi standard or something or another. They mentioned it in some of the other threads, but yeah, those are about 5 bucks on Amazon, so hopefully that's true.
Eh, not too worried. Never have used the headphones that come with a device.
Not bothered. They are usually naff anyway.
Wow, this sucks.
Edit: No actually, not really
have plenty of headphones laying around. no worries. and for how cheap this is i dont expect anything in the box but the phone and the charger.
You can actually pick up a pair of the OEM galaxy s3 headphones on ebay for under $6. I've been plenty happy with those (and have since bought a couple extra pairs, just because they're awesome).

klipsch s4A , I use it with my HTC One X ...very good sound quality :good:

Yup. I rather they're not included at all and keep the price down (which they have)
Besides, everyone should own a pair of good headphones! I'll be rocking my Shure E3's with it.

LG G2 D802 Has terrible sound quality from earpiece, which part do I replace?

G2 D802 terrible sound quality from earpiece, which replacement part?
Hello!
I bought a used D802 for around $95 yesterday. Screen and everything in perfect shape, almost too good to be true, right? Well, turns out the sounds quality is **** during phone calls. Called my dad yesterday and the earpiece speaker just buzzed as soon as he talked louder than whispering.
I looked up how to replace the earpiece and it doesn't seem too difficult and I already ordered a kit of tools for that from DealExtreme. However, I need to find a new speaker too. Etradesupply has way too expensive shipping to Sweden so that's not an option.
Another option is ebay, where I could get one including shipping for like a 10th of the price compared to buying from etradesupply. But how is the quality? Will it be just as bad as my current earpiece or will it actually sound better?
Does anybody have any experience with this?
Thought I'd post an update. I bought a cheap speaker from Ebay and I also bought some cheap tools from Ebay, or maybe it was from DX. Changing the earpiece took maybe 20-30 minutes using a video guide I found on youtube. Sound quality is great and has been working great ever since I swapped it. Would definitely recommend!

That's kind of like asking for a suggestion for good food. There are thousands of headphones/ earphones/earbuds/etc.
What is your budget?
Headphones? Over the ear? On the ear?
Earphones?
Earbuds?
Optimized for flatness or emphasized on the bass or treble?
Waterproof? Sweatproof?
Noise cancelling?
Open or Closed back?
Custom or Universal fit?
Haven't heard anything about LG having good cans or buds. Even their expensive ones. I have the JBL tones expecting they'd be decent for music. Glad I only paid $60 and my company reimbursed me for Bluetooth headset. They're terrible for music. Only use them for extended calls as the isolation is built in from the buds and they're wireless and barely not around my neck. Wish they noise cancellation, and good noise cancellation because many product have poor noise cancellation and the isolation isn't great in loud environments. I wish Wolfson still sold their digital silence wired ear buds. Those are pretty good. And who knows Jawbone's future. They're broke.
If you want good cans or buds, I recommend beyerdynamic, Shure or Sennheiser in any order. There are some other good brands but it is usually limited to the high end stuff, like >$200. There also some bargains to found with lower end stuff though build quality or some other function might be compromised. You could also look around the DIY mod scene and see what cans or buds fit your budget and get better with cheap or free modifications.
Mine just shipped. I was number 3335. Once I get them I'll do a review if someone hasn't.
Mine also shipped

The LG Quadbeat 3 AKG version that came with the V10 in certain countries weren't bad according to what I've read about them.
Not sure exactly which earphones came with yours...does it have a model or a name?
Headphones/IEMs are very subjective to the individual and can't really be recommended unless more detailed information about what type you are looking for...
What type of music, where you will be using them and price.
With IEMs, the type of earphone tips are also very important regarding fit.
There is an abundance of headphones/IEMs to choose and need to be narrowed down.

The quadbeat 3 tuned by AKG isn't bad, haven't compared it to the supplied out of the box B&O (not referring to the H3).
TBH, I haven't even used any of the IEM that comes with the phone, the only IEM i'ved used is listed in my sig.

Place a piece of electrical tape over the vents.
This will increase and tighten the sub to mid bass without any sacrifice to the mids and highs.
Easy mod to remove if it isn't your cup of tea.

How does v20 (H918) compare to LG G5 (h850)?

I'm asking because my LG G5 main board has someway corroded and therefore I can't get it repaired under warranty.
and...
I found some really good prices of h918 model on the EBay
I've had so soo many issues with LG G5, burn in, screen discoloration, chin GAP at the bottom. Just to name a few.
My best bet is that LG G5 gap in bottom chin has caused to some moisture to go inside and corrode the main board. Price estimate for changing the main board and battery is 160€... Even though the problem is the screen and with the quality control in the factory! It has pretty major discoloration / burn in problem and battery life has gone to ****.
So here is a few questions I'd like to know about LG v20
1. How does the LG v20 screen compare to that of LG G5, Brightness? Any problems with screen discoloration or with screen burn in?
2. How does the speaker loudness and accuracy differ from G5?
3. Is v20 build quality better than G5's?
4. How does it feel in hand?
5. I can say that I'm an audiophile, are included earbuds how good? And does v20 have better/stronger headphone amplifier.
6. Is there noticeably better audio quality when listening with headphones?
Thanks!
1). The V20 and G5 have similar screens. Obviously the V20 has 0.5" size advantage but is also much bigger in general, so it is not easy to use with one hand. In terms of pixel density, brightness and colors I can't tell much of a difference. If I had to pick, however, the V20 would win any day.
2). Both phones have single, bottom-firing speakers, which I am sure you already know. What this means? Both of them are just OK. They are basically on the same level with no noticeable differences. They are not bad by any means-- plenty of phones have worse bottom firing speakers, like the Samsung Galaxy S7 line-- but for an Audio- and Cinematography- focused phone like the V20 you'd expect the speakers to match the quality of the 3.5 millimeter headphone jack. If you are dead-set on getting good (or at least better) speaker performance on the V20, you can remove the bottom bezel and take off the dust cover that LG glued onto the speaker grille. I have never tried it, because it is a dust cover after all, but if you are willing to get that speaker quality boost then there are some online instructions on how to do so.
3). Build quality is MUCH better for the V20. It's not water resistant, but it has that MIL-STD-810G drop resistance that both the V10 and the recently released V30 have. The G5, in contrast, does not. Because the phone is so big, it also weighs more, and the removable battery mechanism is also much better, both in form and function. The metal is cool to the touch and the bezels, though noticeable, are actually quite thin. Just don't ask me why LG decided to put an earpiece on the top bezel instead of a speaker, because that would have rounded off the whole package. The G5 in comparison just feels cheap and insignificant. This is, of course, completely subjective, but I have always appreciated the look and feel of the V20. The S8 and G6 might look better to most people, but the V20 is not unlike a BMW M5- it looks like a regular sedan but it hides some serious stuff under the hood.
4). The G5 wins if you plan on using either device with one hand. That said, the V20 is HUGE- much bigger than the bezel-less dwarfs we see in 2017. Unless you have mammoth hands, the V20 is best operated with both hands-- not an issue for me, but for subway warriors, it could prove to be a challenge. The G5 is just smaller, and because it feels so cheap you don’t really worry about dropping it- ironic because the V20 has the 810G drop resistance, not the G5. The G5 is more practical for everyday usage, but the V20 feels better in the hand. Regardless, I would install a case on ANY phone I buy, because these are devices you are spending 250-300 dollars for.
5). I haven’t tried the B&O H3 headphones so I can’t say. As for the headphone jack- this is where the V20 shines. Basically the headphone jack includes a dedicated Digital-to-Audio Converter (LG calls it the “HiFi Quad DAC”) and Amplifier that is able to drive high impedance headphones to the degree that matches most standalone music players- DAPs that can cost in excess of 500-1000 dollars. I only have a pair of Phillips SHP9500s- 32 ohm impedance so they are not, by definition, “High Impedance” (the V20 adjusts DAC output based on the type of headphone connected, and 50 ohms is when the “High Impedance” mode kicks in), but the difference in audio quality and loudness is certainly noticeable.
6). I’d say the audio quality is about as good as the G5 with the B&O HiFi DAC module. It’s good to me, but I don’t have the audiophile grade headphones so I can’t really say. But it is certainly better than everything else on the market right now (except the V30, obviously), so there is that re-assurance that the V20 will play your music the way it was meant to be played.

But it is certainly better than everything else on the market right now (except the V30, obviously), so there is that re-assurance that the V20 will play your music the way it was meant to be played.

Thanks! Much appreciated input!
That 260€ for LG v20 sounds a hugely better deal than to put 160€ for repair center to change main board and battery for LG G5 and that wouldn't even fix the undeniable quality control issues with the screen that I've experienced with two LG G5, first one passed RMA but they couldn't get screen part so I got a whole new LG G5. Only to experience the exactly same problems 2-4 months later.
Are LG v20 screens better in terms of quality control? Hell even my old Samsung Galaxy S5 that I gave to my brother when I got G5 that is almost 3 years old with quite a lot of screen on time haven't had a single issues with screen. That's even under quite rough conditions.
Can't really say much about the reliability of the V20, since I've only had mine for around half a year. And I just bricked it over the weekend (deleted /system). You'll probably find out more through a Google search, but I haven't heard much about V20 reliability issues.
Are you buying the H918 T-mobile exclusive, or unlocked? Also, brand new or used? I'd say 260 euro is too expensive for T-mobile exclusive, brand new or not. Unlocked would be a great deal brand new.

Not bad I guess. As I am in the U.S. I highly recommend not buying from Hong Kong (many fraud listings on eBay) but since you are in the UK I don't know. Just be careful buying from international sellers.

Okay, well i'm not that afraid of frauds because it will be covered by EBay or paypal if product is not as listed
Do you know what model is the most custom rom friendly? I'm afraid if h918 that I buy has the latest security patch or so
