How to unroot to receive DP2 - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been on the 7.1.1 DP1 for a while now. I also rooted the phone with NRT to be able to get all the Pixel XL goodies. My question: how can I get the DP2 when it comes out without losing all the Pixel ported apps that I have flashed in Recovery?

Use FlashFire, no need to uproot and you'll keep root

Downgrade from dev preview back to 7.0

Newbie here. Apologies if this has been asked before, but I'm currently sitting on the 7.1.1 beta, rooted, with TWRP installed, and I'm wondering what the best way to downgrade back to 7.0 is. I understand that I won't keep my root, and will most likely have to wipe all my data, but that's not a problem for me, as everything is backed up and I can easily root again. Is the best way to just opt out of the beta, or will I need to manually flash back to 7.0?
I would flash back to stock seeing as how you are rooted/TWRP. You will also need to opt out of the beta program or you will continue to get notifications to update to 7.1.1

Flashing DP2 while rooted

I've seen a thread about it before but I can't seem to find it anymore. But yea I'm rooted on DP1 with the pixel features flashed over. Had the ota notification for about a week or two now but didmt flash because I'm rooted and domt wanna have to unroot or factory reset. Is there a way to without factory resetting? I also have FlashFire, as the thread said to just can't find it.
Download latest 7.1.1 released today and flash with FlashFire deselecting data partition

Flash ota with flashfire when system is modified

Hey all,
Normally, I would just flash a full ota image to get the latest update without loosing any of my settings, data and apps. But since I'm running the 7.1.2 beta now (which doesn't have full ota images), I'd like to know what the best way is to update to dev preview 2 when the beta release will be rolled out, without loosing my settings, data and apps. Will flashing system.img from the 7.1.2 factory image (when it'll be released) be the way to get a unmodified system partition back without loosing any of my settings, data and apps? So that I after that can flash the incremental ota with flashfire?
edit: context: I want to use a flashable pixel mod again when it'll get released for 7.1.2 to get assistant, night light, blue pixel accent, etc again. But still be able to use the ota with fllashfire to get updated to dev preview 2 when it gets released.
Thanks in advance!

Possible to root and still receive OTAs?

Hello all,
I have a P2XL but my previous phone was a N6P. I am lending it to my brother for a bit until he gets his own P2XL, I have the phone back to stock and have relocked the bootloader but am curious to know if I can root the phone so he can install Substratum, V4A and AdAway and still receive OTAs. He knows to disable the Substratum OTAs and uninstall V4A before OTA but I'd have to teach him how to sideload OTA if he wouldn't be able to receive the typical method OTA via Google/carrier.
The N6P is Google bought, being used on Tmo.
Thanks!

Most likely not. Over the air updates do checks for that kind of thing including root unlocked bootloaders and modifications to the system partition. Unless you know how to go into the Manifest and override this I would suggest you leave it at full stock if you plan to use OTAs

Actually, when you do systemless root and do not modify system partition in any way (changes done via Magisk do not count), then OTA may go through, but it will remove root since it replaces boot partition with its own (and systemless root modifies boot partition instead of system). Because of this, you would have to root again after OTA.

Throwback to engineermode

Back when engineeringmode was a big deal because of security concerns, i took advantage of it and rooted my oneplus 5 with magisk installed. This root did not go away with updates until android pie, though i had to reload magisk every reboot. In this latest update, *#808# root test says that i still have root, but i cannot load magisk and thus, cannot use root. Is there anyway to make it so that the I can regain root without unlocking bootloader and wiping?
cheers
