MU-MIMO - Galaxy Note5 General

I just purchased my first MU-MIMO capable router this week, a Linksys EA9500, and one of its features is an LED system that let's you visually know when MU-MIMO capable devices are connected. I have 2 Note5 devices and was pleased to see both of them were recognized as MU-MIMO capable. I knew the S7 series was capable and that the Note has SU-MIMO (MIMO), but I couldn't find any references stating the Note5 has MU-MIMO enabled!

Slow internet connectivity?

I recently bought a Samsung galaxy tab 10.1, its a great product, however i have noticed that the wifi connectivity on this device is not the best its pretty slow compare to a laptop, and the downloading speed is also slow compared to that of a lap top, would this be because of the current software or is it due to the limiting capabilities of the hardware?

This vs Galaxy S4?

For some reason I haven't seen anything on youtube comparing the performance of this, to the S4, not really concerned with it's performance to the HTC One.
I know this CPU is a little out dated, well at least not as current as the S4, but haven't seen any side by side comparison, only specs on paper.
Anyone actually use them both? I'm leaning towards the Oppo mainly because it's a little different, plus there is a lot of dev on the stock and CM side.
Oh, I know there is no LTE, which is fine, but it does have the HSPA+ bands for ATT/TMO, right? Same as what the Nexus 4 has?

The Oppo Find 5 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro (APQ8064)- this is the same SoC as many other phones such as the Droid DNA, PadFone 2, Optimus G, Nexus 4, Xperia Z, and so on.
The S IV (intentionally avoiding the S4 term to avoid confusion) and the HTC One run on a Snapdragon 600 (8064T)- there are sizable differences in benchmarks (check some out at Anandtech), but there is confusion on why the scores seem so far apart. Check out this XDA thread to see some discussion on this.
The general consensus is that the S4 Pro is still very capable, and in general use you shouldn't notice a change.
As for the bands, I will again defer to Anandtech, here is the exact quote from their Oppo Find 5 review:
Like most of the rest of the Find 5 internally, the cellular hardware is pretty similar to the Nexus 4. Other than MDM8215M in place of the LTE-capable MDM9215M, much of the list reads identically. The network band support is also very similar, with the international/North American model of the Find 5 supporting 850/900/1800/1900 MHz GSM/EDGE and 850/1700/1900/2100 MHz WCDMA. It’s interesting to note that the Find 5 doesn’t have pentaband WCDMA, with Band 8 (900MHz) missing on both the international as well as the Chinese domestic models. The primary hardware difference between the two is the presence of Band 4/AWS WCDMA in the international model, which as a T-Mobile user makes me happy (though almost the entirety of the Seattle area has T-Mobile PCS WCDMA coverage at this point).

As of now, I have the Galaxy s2 from TMO, I purchased a Nexus 4 which I wasn't too fond of, basically due to the hardware and the fact I almost dropped it due to it's slipperiness. So I'm back to the s2, the nexus 4 was such a huge jump over what I'm currently using, so I'm sure the Oppo 5 will be even more beyond my phone.
I wasn't too fond of the HTC One when I was messing with it in person, I don't like the dull aluminum color, and the faux brushed metal feel to the device. If the black one was readily available for TMO or ATT unlocked, I'd probably be thinking different. Not a fan of Samsung too much anymore until they beef up their phones just a tad.
If i don't even use the S IV or HTC One on a daily basis, I doubt I'd notice the performance difference between those and the Oppo 5.
I'd say there's a bit of a cap there, too; only under strenuous circumstances will you notice a difference in processing speed. The UI on the Find 5 will run at a fluid 60fps, much like HTC's and Samsung's flagships, and everything will probably open in an instant (if not slower by few milliseconds, but who's that petty).
The Find 5 has been upgraded, it now has the Snapdragon 600/8064T as well.

[Q] Wifi Strength of this tablet

I currently own a Asus Transformer Prime TF201 since January 2011*. Pretty soon I realized that the wifi strength of the tablet was ajn issue. But I taught it was because my router, located in my basement, was not strong enought to cover my whole house. As such, I bought a new N router (dual-band). Provided some improvement but not enough. Then I bought wifi signal amplifier. Did help in some area but my tablet was still struggling on the second floor until I realized that my son's cheap chineese Hyundai T7 tablet was getting excellenet wifi signal everywhere in the house. By that time, I was way past the any possible return period so I was stuck with the Prime.
Now, I was able to same some money to buy a new tablet and I am considering the Note 10.1 - 2014 Edition, since I own a Note 2, but I wanted to confirm with the current users that the wifi is not an issue like it was on the Prime.
If anyone could confirm it, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
i've got three routers in the house, asus rt-ac66r, asus rt-n56u and a belkin 300+. the house is 3200 sq ft and two stories - 66 and belkin 1st floor and the 56 in the upper.
i can pick up the ac66 probably ~150' away outside it's not measured formally. if i have time i'll give signal strengths.

Great! Thanks.
The Note 10.1 2014 has wifi ac, so you'll be perfectly fine. Apart from that, I get wifi from really far distances

If your Note 2 has strong wifi signals, why would the Note 10.1 2014 not have similar wifi abilities? It's about 2 generations newer than your ASUS Prime also.
I'm sure the wifi is perfectly fine.

Couldn't you just get away with one router and few AC powered bridges? Would that have been more cost effective?

My Note 2 works very well around my house but every devices are different and I just wanted to confirm that Samsung didn't screw up like Asus did.
Also, I did try bridges or repeater but it was not working well with my NAS so I had to use amplifier instead.

the routers aren't on the same breaker and I prefer to wire them together. I won't do repeater bc I don't want speed loss.
my belkin is the tomato router and hooks up to the modem. it's the family general router. the ac66 is "my" router. I got it as an impulse buy and was gonna replace the belkin with it, but modem issues and lack of some of the tomato features took it out of that spot - shibby doea have tomato for it now though. the n56 is on for no real reason. I have it, so might as well use it. I pretty much use all the 2.4 ghz channels here, lol. but living in a rural area they're all free.
I just did a more formal test. I went out to 90' and the 2014 had -80 db. not perfect, but still useable. this is through 4 walls outside. my s4 had a better signal at -75db. this is with the ac66. my n56 the same distance and 1 floor up but kept dropping. in the house I can connect to every router except the belkin at a far corner in the house. none of my devices pick it up there though.

I also had the prime it was the metal back that caused that well known problem. I now own the Note 10.1 2014..no issues anywhere in the house you will love this tablet compared to the Prime, enjoy.
I own a galaxy note 10.1 2014 edition for one week. Everything works fine instead of wifi signal!! when i go a little far from the wifi modem i can not use internet anymore!!
please help me t solve this weird problem..
Hey man The tf201 was my tablet as well. So i know exactly what you're talking about
Rest assured wifi on the note 10.1 2014 is just perfect. I have one spot on my balcony where I always lost connection with my tf201 but the note has full strength in that spot. Also so far I didn't have issues with open or public networks at university or restaurants and stuff. You just connect and have fun.
There are upsides to plastic. The full metal body of my prime was sexy but it wasn't worth the cost of bad connection and getting scratches all over the place.
My Note LTE also has some problems with wifi. When I am away from the rooter and hold the upper right side the signal strength drops significantly. Probably that is where the antenna is!!

Is the WiFi issue real?

I am considering getting this tablet to replace my old Tab S. (either the s5e or the A 10.1 2019. Not sure yet).
I have read many conflicting reports on the WiFi drop out issue so I thought I would stop by here and surf a bit.
So, my question, is the WiFi drop out a real issue?
I have also read elsewhere that Samsung has created what it believes to be a "fix" but don't know if that is real or not.
Comments?
I have used the tab for about 3 weeks now. Stock rom and rooted with Magisk and have not noticed any drop outs in day to day use.
Does the issue only surface when you hold it a certain way?
Had it for about a month totally stock and no dropouts here. I've worked my way through three different cases looking for one I really liked and they don't seem to have made any difference. I have the old A10 and the s5e is better than that for wifi.
After owning one for two months, I've had zero issues with the wifi (and a few quick attempts at reproducing the problem also failed to cause any wifi dropout). I suspect that:
a) It was over-inflated and only affected a very small subset of users, or
b) It was a problem with a specific production batch, or
c) it was addressed by a software update (maybe antenna diversity didn't work properly without a software update, allowing the tablet to change antennas based on how you hold it)
So right now (October 2019), I'd say any potential buyer should consider this a non-issue.
My one complain however is Samsung went cheap by going single stream, when the SoC was capable of double stream (meaning a max link rate of 433 Mbps instead of 866 Mbps). That SoC was also capable of 160 MHz channel width, but Samsung went with only 80 MHz max. For a 550$ CAD tablet, single stream is pretty silly when my older, less expensive Nexus 9 was dual stream. Nothing above 300$-400$ should be single stream in 2019.

One day of heavy usage, no problems. Even with large downloads.
Yes. The wifi is real. No. It doesn't bother me much.
It only happens when hold it in specific way, which is not the usual way I hold a tablet.
So it doesn't happen unless I want to by covering the left corner using whole palm.
Never had that problem. I dont think the problem is real
No issues here.
All OK with the wifi here. Need to update that I do have the S5E, as well as the Tab Pro 12.2 listed below.
No problem here, I've hold it daily in many ways (portrait, landscape, in bed, on the couch) and in the last 3 months I had zero wifi problems or drop outs.

Hopefully you are telling the 12.2 tab pro owners to get one before it is too late! Great move!
Thanks to everyone! Think I'm going to get the s5e.

Hey, I will be honest. When I cover the bottom right side the speed does drop a bit but if no one had ever pointed this out (the wifi problem) I would not have known. It can replace the tab pro 12.2 because in settings --> display size choose "small" and it seems like you would be looking at your tab pro 12.2 inch screen. So, get one! Great choice! and very snappy and fast. Because you are close to your wifi 30 ft it will not make a hill of beans. Hopefully the other note pro/tab pro owners jump on board before it too late.

Went ahead and bought the s5e. It seems like a really nice device. As far as the wifi goes, I'm within 30 or 40 feet of my router. If I hold the tablet in the lower left corner (landscape) I can get it to drop a bar if I try really hard. I notice no wifi degradation at all. I rarely (if ever) hold it like that anyway so it won't be an issue for me (if it's an issue at all). Glad I bought it.

Good Choce! I just hope the tab/pro owners don't miss out. If you never use the pen, as I have not, this is by far the best choice. I don't know which I love more, the battey life, the fast charge or the OLED screen. The price is amazing $399.00 at Costco + 128GB SD ext card + tax of course. GOOD DEAL! Man I have not turned on my tab pro for about 2 weeks now. I need to get a case but am having too much fun with this tablet. Wow, what a surprise!
The bottom left (landscape) is vulnerable. Everybody I put my hand there, I notice significant signal drop
I’ve purchased Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e in May of 2019 as a replacement for my aging Sony Xperia Z4 tablet with a broken digitizer. I’ve just returned from 2 month-long trip throughout Europe and I must say that I’m extremely upset about my Samsung tablet due to constant Wi-Fi connection issues.
I’ve managed to get a screen replacement for my Xperia tablet before my vacation departure date and I’ve decided to bring both Sony and Samsung on a trip (my wife was using Sony tablet occasionally).
I’ve experienced numerous Wi-Fi connection issues with my Tab S5e and I’ve actually complained in a number of hotels about their crappy Wi-Fi, until I’ve realized the problem is with Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e only. On many occasions, my Tab S5e refused to connect to Wi-Fi, because the signal appeared to be too weak.
I’ve returned home few days ago and unfortunately, the return window for a Samsung tablet is closed and I’m stuck with a tablet that is unable to connect to Wi-Fi and is therefore completely useless in many cases.
My Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e is Wi-Fi only model (SM-T720) and current software appears to be most up to date at the moment (PPR1.180610.011.T720XXU1ASG3).
I would like to hear from other users about their experiences and possible solutions.
I’m attaching a photo of both Sony Xperia Z4 tablet and Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e side by side on Saint Marcel hotel room in Paris where my Tab S5e completely failed to connect to Wi-Fi. As you can see, SaintMarcel SSID is completely invisible to my Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e.

Man I wish I could help but I've had zero wifi issues with my new s5e. If I cover the lower left corner (landscape) with my hand sometimes it will drop a bar but never fails to connect and never slows down. Having said that, I will be spending a couple of days in a hotel in southern Texas next week and will be taking the s5e with me. I am anxious to see if I encounter any wifi issues. I'll let you know one way or the other when I return. I can tell you, my build number is different than yours (ASH1). Also, I just bought mine last week. Maybe something got fixed.
I've had it for about 2 months now and I never experienced any issues, both on 2.4ghz and 5ghz frequencies. I've never used it in a place with poor coverage though.

Wifi analyzer by farproc in the play store does not work properly. I installed it on the tablet and would not connect to anything even when I was connected (or showed nothing when not connected). I think you should install wifi analyzer by VERN Software (open source) and give us a fresh screen shot. Anyway intersting, my signal does not change when I cover the whole tablet (even the right corner). Signal seems rock solid using the open source app.

Tab S5e slow wifi on 2.4ghz

Hi all,
I've got the S5e now for 1 day and I love it, except for one thing, the wifi speed is slower on the tablet then on all my other devices. While I get 90mbps on my phone/laptop, I just get 35/40mbps on the tablet.
Does anybody else has this problem?
I just called Samsung and they said that it is normal on 2.4ghz with new devices and that I should use 5ghz, what is really ridicoulous.
Kind regards
I don't have any sort of this problem on my SGT S5. Have you tried it on other AC routers
WiFi reception is poor it doesn’t like any walls or floors being in the way.
I have compared to Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 (2015) and when the route is not close to the tablet with two walls in the middle, the speed is around half, on 2.4 GHz
Of course close to the Router I get the normal speed.
