I have roaming selected and it works fine for calls, but I'm not able to use my data when roaming. I feel like there is a simple fix, but I can't find it.

I have heard that establishing a phone call when roaming will get your phone "registered" and data will work.

Do you happen to know who the roaming provider is at the time?

Verizon I belive
I had this issue and seemed to fix it by going into the roaming settings, unchecking allow domestic data and rechecking it. Worth a shot I guess...

Hey there folks.
I'm going away to australia tomorrow and don't want to pay £7.50 a mb!
I think I have managed to disable the data connection by going into the settings:
Menu> Settings> Wireless Controls> Mobile Networks> Access Point names
And then geting rid of all except the T-mobile UK settings and then renaming the APN to general.t-mobile.uks (just added an "s").
The little data arrows have dissapeared from the top of the screen and nothing internet based is working but I can still send MMS and connect to and use wifi!!
Anyone else want to try this and confirm that it does actually totally disable the data connection?
Thanks
its very easy, change the name of you APN server, if you do it the phone can't stablish a data connection and force the data connection to 3G.
The phone dont use more the 2g or 3g.
If you want to do it better maybe you need to configure any iptables for deny connections or something
I agree. Easiest way to be to change the APN so it can't be used.
Not sure to what extent this would apply to you as you're apparently from the UK, but this is not good news for traveling abroad w/the G1, at least if you're from the states :/

It's been tested and proven that disabling the APN (e..g by misconfiguring it as the 2nd poster has mentioned) would prevent any data consumption, period. If you have an understanding of how telco network systems work, you would understand as well that this is not specific to any telecoms service provider -- if the data APN is incorrect, it simply cannot authenticate against the home data network, and hence data would not work. If roaming, incorrect login credentials would prevent the SIM from logging onto the roaming partner's data network and thus data service is unavailable.
if you download droidsan tweak lite, you can try to activate various apns until you see no 3g or 2g icon then you know you aren't receiving data
let me know how it goes!

Could very well be; I'm not versed in wireless tech enough to argue one way or the other. Someone in that thread specifically said changing the APN did not work for them however. Whether that's because they did it incorrectly or something else entirely, I have no idea.
From the thread I linked to:
by patuf4e
Actually I tried to change my APN settings to something incorrect. However, the phone keeps connecting to internet, apprently using some internally stored configuration by the time I initially synchronized with my google account. Is anybody experiencing the same?

When you get the data roaming warning there is an option to tell the phone not to ask you again. It's not clear on what happens after that. If I deny data roaming and tell the phone not to ask again, will it always deny data roaming or will it just not warn me the next time I am about to data roam?

It will always deny it but it can be changed in the settings> wireless connections> mobile network

Do I even need to be concerned about data roaming? Does it cost money or does the data plan take care of it?

Sometimes my data is cut off for attempting to tether but a quick reboot usually restore it.

You probably forgot to add the access point name for tmobile:

+1 you need to add the tmobile.com apn for LTE to activate.
P7000 Problem with Data Roaming
I have huge problems with Data Roaming in Croatia, have already tested all the settings, all without success.
According to my provider (WinSIM) automatic network search should be active and the APN be adjusted to internet.victorvox. Unfortunately, this does not work with the P7000. The SIM card in another device (G2 mini) does it work Data roaming without any problems. I hope you can help me. Calls works without problems.

You did check the "plus" options on your phone, under Vpn you have an option were you can choose which operator you will use. (sorry my phone is French so it's all in French lol) it must be call "network" if you click on it it will takes some time and list you all the operator. Out of the box, mine was wrong. If you did that, try to go on airplane mode multiple time (on / off) to see if the roaming work.

did you mean available networks?
I have found it, I'm so stupid, in the bar to be drawn down there is still a function of mobile data, I thought however, that is data roaming On / Off overwritten that in the settings. It was not so. It works now.

Yes that's what I meant, sorry xD" Good that your problem is resolved !
I bought the H910 unlocked ATT version. Everything works fine except the Messages app. It sometimes says it cannot backup and sync text messages, and everytime a group message or a message with pictures come over, it would ask me to download, but the download always fails after 5/5 attempts.
Anyone knows how to fix this?
I have the same issues. I noticed it usually happens to me on wifi. Once i turn that off, it usually works then. Also im using the tmobile branded V20
Sent from LG V20
I manually deleted the APN in the phone, and added the tmobile APN. Now I can receive group/multimedia messages, but I cannot send one... This is very annoying...

Cellular data always active - does this mean I will be using LTE data all the time even though I am on wifi? that would be so wasteful.... I have only 2G per month.
