Can Kodi run on any ROM? - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to use my old Defy, as a multimedia device, for online movies.
Can any ROM run Kodi or SPMC, and Youtube, online streams?
I tried XperiaD 4.9 but when i start a film, the Kodi(16.1) (and SPMC 16.4.2) exits.
There are any ROM, where the Kodi run perfectly?

Ok, i tried some ROMs, but Kodi not works
Exit when i start a movie.
So... what ROM do you suggest for Youtube only?
I do not want another apps, i want to kids can watch movies on the phone.
I tried the newest Quarx CM11, but it is very slow.
Can you suggest a ROM, and Youtube version, to watch movies smoothly?

Playing Movies on TF

One of the main reason's I bought my TF was to watch movies on airplanes. I put a handful of movies on my SD card, popped it in, and some of them don't play at all and some only play sound but no video.
Is there some kind of file type I need to use to watch movies? Is there a suggested movie player? I'm using Act 1.
I used Vplayer unlock version to play mp4 movies for my recent trip to Korea w/o any problem.Maybe you can try the Vplayer free version from the Market.
I use handbrake as per the thread below to encode and the movies play great.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1060825
I use the default video player.
Vplayer seems to be playing all my movies. Thanks for the suggestion!
I've got rockplayer on mine it's running anything and everything I throw at it as well.
MoboPlayer is another alternative
VPlayer, Mobo Player, Rock Player are all essentially the same thing.
They use a software foundation called ffmpeg to decode more video formats than the built in video player can handle. While they will all play most anything, they use your CPU to do the work rather than the much more efficient GPU.
Basically, if it plays in the stock video player, use that, otherwise use whichever V/Mobo/Rock player you want.

Adobe Flash Problem

I am facing an issue with Adobe flash player on MIUI ROM (currently using MIUI 1.9.9, which is latest). The flash player crash if I try to farward the video, but runs O.K. if I allow to run the video as it is.
For example, using Stock browser (even with Dolphin HD), in YOU TUBE if I open any video, it runs perfectly. But, if I try to forward the video (try to skip some part), the video crashes.
I tried all Adobe Flash 10.1, 10.2 and latest 10.3, but same issue. Is this to do with MIUI or all CUSTOM ROM. I remember, I used to face similar problem with stock ROM (2.2) as well.
Any solution ?
Works for me using stock MIUI browser on newest MIUI and newest Flash. 720p vids lag a lot though.

Newest flash means flash 10.3, right ? Have you tried to forward the video (I mean skip some part and move to middle of the video) ?
I said, it works if I do not try to forward the video.

Yes 10.3.186.6 from market. And I can skip youtube videos (in browser too).
Btw I have franco.Kernel installed and some overclocking etc. if that does matter.

I am also running the latest MIUI with franco kernal.
When I try to forward the video in YOUTUBE, an message pops up saying:
"Sorry, this video cannot be played"
I am not sure, but it seems that it is to do with "HQ" option in the YOUTUBE. If I disable this, some videos are able to forward, but again, for some videos, I see above error message. But, as far as "HQ" option is enabled, all videos crash if I try to forward the video.

Yes now I understand. It does crash if you use m.youtube.com and choose "HQ" but if you use normal youtube site, then you can go forward in 720p vids too (but they lag). And everything works with youtube app too.
I noticed a discussion on the net recently where only videos tagged to "work on mobile devices" when uploading will work on mobile devices. I wonder if this has anything to do with youtube problems.

[Q] Playon App Issue

Hello All -
I'm a noob with the A500 stock ICS. I have the Playon App installed, and I can browse to whatever I want to watch, but when I select an item, rather than playing it right away it brings me to screen with a picture of the video. If I tap the video it asks me how I want to play it. I've installed several different players but none of them work (mobo is one). On my android phone the video will just start playing automatically.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm not opposed to rooting and installing a different ROM if that is what I need to do.
MX player
Did you tray the MX player? It loads the needed codec automatically and you can choose between hard ware ore soft ware decoding. One of both should work... .
m.
Tried It
Thank you - I did try the MX player as well...to no avail. I even reset the tablet this morning to try a fresh OS and that made no change either. Thanks again
...nothing to thank for m8! I couldn't help...:-(

I have the same issue. Before upgrading to ICS, Playon app worked fine for me (thor v14.2 rom). With ICS (official WW), somehow .m3u8 HTTP live streaming never starts. Tried pretty much all media players I can find. No luck.
FWIW, I just saw a comment on Google Play, maybe you can give it a try -
Finally working on ICS. This app stop working on my Acer 500 after the Ice Cream Sandwich update. I tried everything until I found Rockplayer version 1.7.4 which works on ICS. Video plays without issues. ENJOY!!!!!

Video playback (mp4, mkv, etc)?

Hi, I was thinking about getting a Fire HD 8 and I since it´s not stock android, I was wondering if it will play mp4, mkv and all the most common video formats straight out of the box or if I would have to convert them. I´ve read that you can actually install the play store...so I´m guessing you could just install VLC and such.
You don't need to install PlayStore/GSF to get new apps on the tablet, you have Amazon apps store, third party stores like Aurora or APKPure and even manually sideloading them, it is quite simple. As long as the app runs on ARM and it's not GSF dependent (I don't think vlc is), it will work and you can even get updates automatically.

2019 10HD video and Youtube playback issue

Is this a common issue with the Fire 10HD?
My tablet is not rooted but I used ADB to disable all the Amazon apps and use Evie as a launcher.
I've installed Google framework, Youtube and VLC. I have also installed Kodi.
Other than Kodi, I have not been able to play any video files locally. Youtube also would not work unless I play it through Kodi Youtube addon.
Is there something missing from the tablet basic installation that will allow it to play the video files and Youtube?

NVM,
Turns out the tablet was buggy and stop playing video altogether. Anyway, a reboot seems to clear up whatever was causing the issue.
