Deleted the os :/ - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

Hi
I have recently dropped my phone (Moto G4 Plus (XT1642)) down the loo :/ However I riced it and it worked, all accept I couldn't pickup signal... I decided to factory reset (found there was an ICCID error).
After doing this and finding this didn't fix the problem, I scoured the internet, and no solution was found, so I unlocked the bootloader, flashed TWRP and it worked, my signal picked back up, and the ICCID error was fixed, all was good.
Then I went playing in TWRP, and I think I may of done a factory reset :'(...
So I went out and downloaded Ressurection Remix and CyanogenMod, and tried to flash these, but no success, I'm currently downloading the factory image off another xda thread:
Can I have some concise instructions on how to flash this so I don't brick my device? Ive already made a no OS backup.
Cheers in Advance

I just did this today! I just downloaded the stock XT1644 rom and tried to install it through TWRP and it keeps giving me an error that says, "Could not find 'META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary' in the zip file." If this is the stock rom, I have no idea what else I can do.

The stock ROM can't be flashed through twrp it has to be unzipped and flashed through fastbooy

I've found the solution! Download the stock rom that's floating around in the forum and follow this tutorial. I've successfully unbricked my phone! Thanks for the tip @khaoticking.

Help! Tried to flash stock ROM NPN25.137-83 (North America Latest) and got boot loop

I am on a XT1687 device and had flashed Lineage 15.0 to try it: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5...ageos-15-0-t3673573/post73807133#post73807133. When I rebooted, my Sprint SIM card could not be recognized.
I then tried to flash the stock ROM NPN25.137-83 (North America Latest) from https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/development/rom-twrp-flashable-stock-builds-t3675616. Got stuck in a boot loop. I didn't know what to do since this is one of the first times I've tried to do something like this without help. Started Googling and it seemed returning to stock firmware would be appropriate.
I returned to bootloader and tried to follow this to reset to stock firmware: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/development/stock-firmware-npn25-137-67-5-fastboot-t3694738
But only got as far as "fastboot flash partition gpt.bin" when it said (bootloader) has-slot:gpt: not found.
Not sure what I should've done with the rest of those commands, so I stopped. I still have bootloader and TWRP recovery working, but is there any way I can save my phone now?? When I try to reboot, it says "no OS installed." Any insight would be appreciated! Really want to learn how to do this but have so much more to go.
***Update***
I was able to download stock firmware as mentioned in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/how-to/solution-to-flash-stock-romfactory-t3691396
And followed commands successfully. Phone is saved! Thanks all.

If you have TWRP installed, you can try one of those TWRP flashable ROMs
Flash a rom and do a work around for your sim card or flash the stock rom through twrp.
stock firmware flashed!
I was able to download the stock firmware in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/how-to/solution-to-flash-stock-romfactory-t3691396
And run those commands. Thank you all for your responses! Phone is saved!

Motorola G2 XT1068 problem after flashing omni

Hello, i decided to open new thread because I nowhere find solution. My problem is that after flashing my moto g2 with omni 6.0.1 it get stuck on warning message (about unlocked bootloader). Now I can only get into bootloader menu, connect phone to PC (it's showing dewice as motorola dadb interface),I can only flash twrp using fastboot (fastboot boot twrp.img) and that's it. I can not flash anything permanently to the phone: any custom recovery, any rom, can't fix it with logofix. It just look like phone doesn't accept any flash. I tried also to change boot and other img but with no succes, always after any operation when I reboot phone it's get to warning message.
My phone is motorola 2G xt1068, 8gb, bootloader ver 48.87. Once I tried to flash it with retail rom from sd card via twrp 3.8.0.1 it shows that previous system was omni-titan 6.0.1 and retaildsdsall can not be flash, always shows error 7.
I wonder if I can flash it with upper version of omni: 7.0.1 to fix the problem with booting the phone.
If You could give me any advise how to solve the problem, I would be very appreciate.
Waitng for your reply Guys.
After a lot of tryes I found that anythig I do on the phone after restart it's getting to the same state, even if I manually deleted folder "Firmware", after reboot it's going back. When I prepared Moto for installing new rom using Philz recovery, all the data stay on it's place ( I mean private data like thumbnails in DCIM folder etc), nothing dissapeared. It's look like it have some copy of the system in internal storage and always after rebooting it's recovering it back, even if the system is flashed by new rom.
Have U any idea what's wrong with this phone?
Additinally I found that a lot of internal memory is busy: over 4500MB and free is only 780MB. Even after wiping everything, also formatting system.Should it be like this?
Edit: 2018-02-15
Ok, if noone could help me let's treat it as a blog.
Digging in google I found spanish site with a lot of custom roms for motorola. Now I'm trying one by one till I found the right one.
It's a pitty that Father's of the omni rom leaving me lonely in that situation, I think that they are the best of source of informations about that rom.
2018.02.19
I tried to install OmniRom 6.0.1 Homemade but on the beginning I had the infothat installation failed with error 7. So I found the solution to change the information in meta-info folder.I did it but when instalation started after "symlinkig" it stopped with error: some symlinks failed, error 7. And again I stucked.I feellike I'm very close of the solution but I need help. I'm using twrp 3.2.1.0 running via fastboot (boot twrp.img).

Bricked after TWRP crashing when wiping data to so I could restore a previous backup

Hi, so here's the background. I got my Moto X Pure Edition back when Motorola was selling it on their website, I used MotoMaker and everything. I had the phone for a few months and I decided to unlock the bootloader, with success. Afterwards, I couldn't get the 6.0 update, my phone would restart with failing to update after downloading the OTA. I now know why that was happening, but didn't know then.
Two Days Ago: I had my Moto XPE sitting in a drawer and wanted to try to rescue it. I found the stock factory image for Marshmallow on Moto's dev website and found a guide to restore it back to factory, still with an unlocked bootloader, but that was fine. I knew 7.0 came out for it and found the OTA zip online and attempted to flash it with the stock recovery, it didn't work and I know why. It had something to do with the bootloader version or something.
Yesterday: I did some research and I ended up flashing TWRP twrp-3.2.3-1-clark.img for my recovery. I've had previous experience with TWRP and thought it would be a good fit. After doing that, I did some looking around for ROMs that would get me up to 7.0. I found one called crDroid and it worked very well. It was very smooth. I went to bed last night with that on the phone and made a backup of it.
Today: While on my way to work this morning, I looked up Oreo roms, and I found an unofficial version of LineageOS and flashed that. Everything went well, it booted up fine but it was very slow. I powered off the phone (to save battery) for a few hours and decided that I wanted to go back to the previous ROM, crDroid. Before I restored, I wanted to wipe everything. When I went to wipe, TWRP ended up crashing. I had looked away from my phone before it crashed, so I thought it just rebooted. I went to restore from my backup and it crashed again. I did some Googling and tried different version of TWRP for the XPE, but every I try to wipe or restore or flash, it keeps crashing. One post said to "Fix Contexts", and now when I go to do a regular wipe (not advanced), the phone vibrates for about 7 seconds and then crashes TWRP.
Can anything be done to save the phone, or am I dead in the water here? At what point did I go wrong? My main device is a OP6T so I'm not too worried if this can't be resurrected, but I would like to try. I know this was a long post, but I wanted to be as detailed as possible. Thanks in advance for the help and thanks for reading.
You can restore it to stock through fastboot, I made a post with a mfastboot folder and it has a command prompt in the folder and you can launch that and should work if you have the xt1575, or try the custom recovery from the twrp website or the nuclearom post on here

H918 Stuck on secure startup "decryption unsuccessful" on boot

after doing this https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/step-step-guide-lg-v20-h918-unlocking-t3808258
and finally installing a stock based rom, which is Alpha Omega Rom. I get stuck at secure startup and telling that decryption unsuccessful. I tried it with other stock based rom like a prerooted one but the result are still the same. I am never new to this problem and usually this get solved by going to twrp and wiping data(the one you have to type yes) but it did not solve this problem. Really need help badly.

it seems youre trying to flash a new twrp image that is higher than the allowed 3.2.3-4 in the root process,go to fastboot mode reflash twrp image 3.2.3-4 or an older one.If that's not the issue please provide more information

Where does it exactly say that I cannot flash anything higher than 3.2.3-4. All it says is to download the latest twrp from https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-1-0-t3720239
Do you have a link to 3.2.3-4? It seems like 3.2.3-5 is the lowest twrp I could find in Phoenix591's android filehost https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=235271
edit: while waiting for responses, I went ahead and installed unofficial LOS15 then I was able to boot without any problem. It seem like this will only happen with stock/stock based roms.

You should flash latest after installing this one by installing recovery img in TWRP i am telling you cause i have tried 3.2.3-5+ with the dirty santa process for my phone and thats the message i was getting unless downgrading to 3.2.3-4
Also decryption is unsuccessful comes as a result of not formatting data on twrp after the first install of twrp but you said that you did format data so i thought you were trying to flash newer twrp via the root process of the H918

Yes me too, and it almost make me crazy back in the days ?
the solution (at least for now) is downgrade TWRP it into v3.2.3-4. flash it via adb fastboot command, format data, then reboot. But sorry i dont have TWRP for H918, becoz im using F800L.. and since your TWRP has been nuked, youll have to reflash TWRP again yes? ?
Or, if youbdont want to downgrade TWRP, you can use AOSP based rom such as LOS15.1.. i already tried that rom and it dont have problem with encrypt/decrypt thing like stock based rom.

And I forgot to mention that I already got twrp fixed after it got nuked. Sadly, I don't think fastboot flashing works on h918 so I had to do lafsploit method to flash twrp again.

Where? Right in the portion where it says Known Issues of the first link.
Downgrading TWRP to 3.2.3-4 will fix it. I had the same issue.
Thanks for the notes. Unfortunately this did not work for me. I ended up in this position after updating Magisk to 20.2, or trying to. My H918 went to being stuck in the fastboot mode. I was able to get to TWRP, and reinstalled H91820h.zip, but then faced with "Decryption unsuccessful" I downgraded TWRP to twrp-3.2.3-0, and deleted everything except the external microsd card, reinstalled H91820h.zip, but still stuck at the "Decryption unsuccessful". Are there other things I should try?
Thanks,
Rob

From TWRP thread:
Changed one last thing to try to fix stock Oreo decryption.
There were an upstream TWRP change that should fix the issue where formatting was still leaving /data encrypted as well (this was actually in the last build, but I didn't notice it then)

If you still have your non-Encryption-supporting TWRP as download mode, wipe data from there. For some reason which was documented in the TWRP thread, most versions of V20 TWRP doesn't remove the encryption flag even on a full wipe. I've gone through the pain several times, but here's roughly what I went through about a month ago. It's possible that using the latest TWRP may allow you to skip straight to step 8. As of this latest wipe, I'm finally at a point again where my phone works properly and TWRP can still see my data.
Basic process to hopefully have a working ongoing phone and TWRP:
1. Reboot to download-mode TWRP
2. Wipe dalvik/cache/data from the older download-mode TWRP
3. Factory reset with YES, still in older download-mode TWRP
4. Reboot to system; it should give you the new-system-setup past the Decryption unsuccessful screen on your wiped device
5. Setup without a Google account or fingerprint
6. Reboot back to recovery, not download TWRP; use download mode to get there if you need to
7. Flash the latest TWRP version from the thread (no older than October 25, 2019)
8. Reboot back to recovery
9. Wipe dalvik/cache/data
10. Reboot back to system
11. Setup as you like
12. Reboot back to recovery and make sure you can see your storage
If it gets a decryption error on latest TWRP at step 12 and you can't see data while in Recovery, try skipping adding a fingerprint during setup (run through steps 8-12, no fingerprint on 11) and see if that fixes it.

My solution turned out to be formatting /data. Wiping it was apparently not really wiping it clean. Formatting it got me back to a working phone, though I had to re-install everything.

Stuck in TWRP as custom roms are not booting after flashing with TWRP

Hello,
i got a second phone for my GF as i was really happy with this phone and had it flashed without any issues before. This second phone is used and was over a year in use from the guy i've bought it from. It was 100% fine and he always used the shipped Android with it.
So i went on, got the latest TWRP for the phone. Flashed it without any issues and tried to install LineageOS from their website. Flashed it and tried to flash TWRP back as LOS replaces it. I wanted to use TWRP install the backups. But that's where it started to go wrong. Lineage seemed to have been gone from that point on. I couldn't get it to work again, even with reflashing and such. I've downloaded CRDroid and Paranoid and tried them but no luck. Non of them where booting up and TWRP stays showing a warning about "No OS installed".
After some more digging, i've found some posts stating that i would need newest firmware and venders. I've downloaded and flashed them but this made it even worse. The phone started to be stuck in fastboot. I got it working again by flashing latest MIUI version with Xiaomi Flash Tool.
Then i've installed TWRP again but somehow any rom i flash does not boot. The phone starts with the MI logo and flashes once and loads TWRP. There is no message about missing OS or any kind or error when flashing any of these roms.
Anyone able to help me?
