I could have sworn when I had my Samsung S2 I would plug in an xbox controller via usb through a USB OTG cable and it would just work in games. This isn't happening with my Verizon LG G2 that I thought supports USB OTG. When I plug in a media card reader for example I actually see a popup like something is working. Nothing pops up when I plug in the xbox controller.
Anyone get a gamepad to work or have suggestions?
Here is someone else with the same issue that seems to have made some progress:

Where are my fellow Android gamepad gamers? You are all on bluetooth controllers? : )

I'm on Moga and Moga Pro Bluetooth controllers! Don't have a OTG cable. I did get a slimport cable though, and let me tell you, it is sweet playing Modern Combat 4 in 720p on my projector (don't have a 1080p projector) with a wireless controller ON A PHONE!
so you love the Moga? I guess I just figured since I had an xbox controller I'd save the money and only have to worry about battery life on the phone and not the controller. Also the xbox controller is awesome. What to do.... ugh.
Anyone else with gamepad setups they want to share? I guess I'll end up pulling the trigger soon if I can't resolve this. My gaming impatience will get the best of me : )
Another reason why I want wired is to reduce lag etc.. although I don't have experience with bluetooth lag but any perceptible amount is not worth it to me. So check out the email I wrote to LG:

How come when I plug in my xbox controller through a usb otg cable it doesn't work? It should. Please see this post:
http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/54617/wired-xbox-controller-not-working-with-lg-g2
By the way, I really love this phone. Just hope you guys can enable gamepad support and pay to click using google wallet and the nfc chip.
Please advise,
Thanks so much,
Tahl
Here was their response... ha:
I apologize that you are having problems with the phone. If your xbox controller is not working with the phone you would have to get repair or troubleshooting information from Customer Care of Xbox.
If you are reading this, hope you had a good laugh too.
I ask LG a solution

I do the same.
I have no solution to connect my wired xbox 360 controller to my LG G2 (if anybody has one, tell me)
I really like my phone and my controller
I hope LG will reply me in a good way but ...
wait and see.
Please ... tell me there is a solution.
Out of curiosity, did you try an AOSP ROM to see if it worked? I did not at this point.

I like the Mogas but they Feel similar to a 360.
Personally I think you can't get any better then a PS3 controller. It will work Wired out of the box (haven't tried on the G2) and also wirelessly through bluetooth with the rooted sixaxis app.
The PS3, I think, is a much better controller because of the separated DPad that becomes very very handy in retro gaming. Try playing SNES Mario World with a Moga or 360 and you'll hate it. I currently have 2 Ouya BT Controllers, a 360 Controller w/ Wireless Sync USB, and a PS3 controller.
I'm also curious if the PS4 was ever successfully paired to Android yet. The PS4 is similar to my Ouya Controller in a sense that it has the touchpad built in, which makes it very handy for navigating Android apps on a TV that aren't 100% gamepad compatible.
For gamepads to work, they need the specific .KO file that has the profiles. LG may not have included it. Custom roms should work out of the box though.

Is that possible to include it ?
No answer from LG. I'm furious ! A so good phone and no way to play with a wired controller. I was thinking that the ability was included diectly inside android. Why LG did extract this ability ? Grrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whoa I'm not saying they excluded it, but probably did... or goofed it up somehow.
Just do Bluetooth. Wired controllers don't work well anyway.
Are you sure it isn't working? You usually are required to download an app from the play store to really start utilizing the controllers for gamplay.
You can also just root and grab an app to restore the .ko file.

I'm really sure of it. I use my controller on my acer A200 With a dedicated app. It's really good and it works really well.

Using my Nexus Player on my Vizo 4K smart TV and not getting any sound from anything played by the NP. Google support wasn't any help and I ended up RMAing the NP just in case it was a faulty device. Got the new one and having same issues so it's something with my NP/TV combo.
Also did do all the normal troubleshooting steps (differnt HDMI ports, different cables, verified that my cable/port worked by plugging in a console, factory reset). No external speakers so just tv speakers. only thing i didnt try was another TV.
Anyone have issues like this? Anyone running off a 4k and/or smart tv no problem? What are some other options?

I have a Vizio M-Series smart TV. I get no sound from my Nexus Player. It works fine on my Samsung TV, which isn't a smart TV, but will not function properly on my vizio and I have tried 3 different cords, ports, etc and I just cant get it to work

Something with vizio tvs then.. im wondering if theres some sound redirection that isnt automatic with the player. i know my friend had a surround sound issue with his tv until he did some setting on his tv and it worked. wondering if its the same thing. ive messed with it all but never had any luck. any other debugging steps we can do ? i flashed my player with the lollirock rom but havent dived into it more than that yet.
Contacted support and was told "that's weird" and now I'm just completely ate up with this thing. My apple TV works and the chromecast works on my vizio. I bought this expecting the same level of quality and it was just a huge let down
Finally got a follow up from tech support.
Thank you for contacting Google!
I got the word from the higher level of support regarding your issue. It seems that there's a compatibility issue with your smart TV and the Nexus player. They're working hard to help and improve the Nexus Player and in the*mean time*please use your Nexus Player with your working HDTV.
Thank you for contacting Google!

.....so needless to say, it must not be compatible with Vizio smart tvs
Infrequently my NP loses sound (Sony tv) and it is fixed by flipping to a different input and then back to the NP.
Likely a different issue, but worth a shot!
I wish! I ended up taking mine back to the store. I was so excited for this product too. Just a bummer
Does anyone know if the OUYA controllers pair with the Shield TV? I want to buy one and need to know how many controllers I will need to buy.
Also, will anyone want an old OUYA?

I don't have firsthand experience of it mate but I don't see why not assuming it is bluetooth. Although you won't want to use that controller once you try the sheild one. I paired an amazon fire TV stick remote to the sheild for use in Kodi. Ebay is you best bet for the OUYA. Still a nice little streaming device for someone.
Sorry, I should have been more clear.
I own an OUYA and three controllers, and want a Shield TV.
You could always try it out and return the SATV if you're not happy...but the Shield controllers are much better than the OUYA controller. For the record I'mm 99% sure they work just fine with the SATV though.
Any Bluetooth controller should work on shield tv. If the ouya is Bluetooth it should be ok,mostly.
Did you figure this out? I just got my shield tv and can try it out if you still need an answer.
Got mine to pair but key mappings are very wrong. Tried to install the Ouya keylayout file but it has no effect. Still trying to figure this out.

Sorry, I am no longer of value here. I sold the Shield TV because I couldn't get it working with Amazon apps. I still have 8 OUYA controllers, though, if that becomes helpful...
I was wondering if anyone has tried hooking up a ps4 controller or any other third party? I hooked an otg cable from my ps4 to the phone and the ps4 light stays blue when it should be orange? I tried connecting via Bluetooth and it sees the device and pairs wirelessly naming it wireless controller in the device list but the buttons don't register in emulators or supported android apps that used to work with my note 5? I used to use my controller all the time but now with my new s7 edge I can't get a controller to work? Can anyone else try for me and see if you have different luck? I tried the otg to an x1 controller and it rebooted my phone....
I got the same results with the Xbox One controller. Wireless adapter still doesn't work (expected), but when plugging the controller in via USB my phone would boot-loop until I unplugged the controller. And even then it still rebooted two more times before working again. I haven't been home to try my Wii or Xbox 360 controllers yet. I thought I would just grab the XBone controller and use it with the Gear VR today on my lunch break. What a disappointment.
I tried hooking ps4 controller and had same issue. I found it might be related to faulty not tested drivers in marshmallow system. Yeah I'm disappointed too.
Moga works.
My Xbox 360 wired controller works, PS3 doesn't (wired or bluetooth).
Same problem here. PS3 controller wired with OTG, just has the 4 charge leds blinking, nothing happens.
XBOX 360 controller, home button keeps blinking and also nothing happening other then that.
Same here ps4 controller not working, causing phone to crash and boot loop when connected. I have a wired Logitech pc x input controller that I tried and it seems to work just fine. But this totally sux as I love my ds4 and was hoping to use it with the gear vr. The Logitech is no where as near as comfortable as the ds4. At least I have something that works for now. Hopefully there will be a fix.
i have tried xbox 360 wired, xbox 360 wireless receiver and a xbox one controller, none work in the s7 but the xbox 360 ones work in my other phones...
Has anybody found a way to use an Xbox one controller with their s7 devices?
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app
Xbox one controller not working at all
I was using my xbone controller with my s7 edge and it rebooted my phone after that it doesn't read my phone anymore and it won't work with me Xbox one, wireless or wired. When I push the guide button it won't turn on and when I plug it into the Xbox it just blinks twice and dies. Don't use your Xbox one controller on your s7!! If anyone has any suggestions feel free to let me know lol

You mean to sync it to the Xbox? It does but it only blinks twice and then dies. I left it charging over night and that's all it would do. I left it charging again and I'm about to try it with my Xbox but yeah so far no luck lol
you guys know you need a custom kernel with xpadder support enabled and the xbox fixes for the linux kernel version. So if you want it build the support in the kernel and it will work.

no, the DS button I'm speaking of, is one that let u make a "factory reset" of the controller, making it like new (speaking of paired devices) so u can pair again as it was new, that ususally solves when the PS doesnt recognize it properly, but I'd never had an xbox so I don't know if that exists on their controllers
Hope they get a fix for this. Got an xbox one controller to play both on PC and my s7 edge. But.. fook this
has anyone found a solution to this yet? im now running on nougat . just getting boot loop error. it finds the controller for less then a second. soon as the xbox one controllers rumble pack generates the "connected" rumble. it shuts the phone off
Samsung Galaxy S5 SM- 900V Rooted Android 7.1 CyanogenMod 14.1 kltevzw Build NDE63P crashes and goes into boot loop when I plug in OTG cable with Xbox 360 controller attached. The second I unplug it, everything is ok. Different ROM maybe? Trying to play games using Google VR so I need to run a controller or it sucks. I have stock 360 controller and a Powera 360 mini controller (preferred)
[[[[[[FIXED!!!]]]]two things but i really recommend the second option i will explain.. FIRST THING IS FIRST MAKE SURE UR PHONES USB DEBUGGING IS ON... EASY TO TURN IT ON.. GO TO SETTING , TAP ON ABOUT PHONE, TAP ON SOFTWARE INFORMATION TAP ON BUILD INTILL U SEE THE MESSAGE U ARE SO MANY TAPS AWAY FROM BECOMING A DEVELOPER. KEP TAPPING AND WELLA U R NOW A DEVELOPER .. BACK TO SETTINGS SCROLL ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM SELECT DEVELOPER OPTIONS TURN ON THEN SCROLL DOWN TILL U SEE TURN ON USB DEBUGGING. ALSO WELL U R IN THE DEVELOPER OPTIONS GO AHEAD AND TURN OF WINDOW ANIMATION TRANSITION ANIMATION AND ANIMATOR DURATION SCALE YA DONT NEED THEM AND WATCH HOW MUCH FASTER UR PHONE WILL BE .. OK NOW WHAT YA ALL COME FOR (1) u can download usb/bt joycentre 2018 its green pic of joystick and following this video on how to use it..
.. now im jus saying but i have a generic x-box game pad controller i purchesed from walmart its corded no bluetooth option and tried this with the s7 edge and no luck the app said usb not reconized. u might have luck with a real xbox controller tho cause they support bluetooth and there is an option in the app to do the patch via blue tooth. U DO NOT NEED A ROOTED PHONE FOR THIS.. NO ROOT!! i dont have a ps3 controller to see if it works but the guy in the video that is what he uses and it worked .. now heres the funny thing .. what i got to work was a knock of ps3 controller off amzone.. i use an otg cable plugged it in to the controller plugged the other end into my phone and works like a charm as soon as i plugged it in.. now if it doesnt work give it a second or hold the ps3 home button down for a sec .. i swear this works. https://www.amazon.ca/Controller-Wi...2A9WRGN9BAB&psc=1&refRID=T73ZTYBBQ2A9WRGN9BAB.. now heres the funny part and was so freaking frustrating my walmart wired xbox game pad works on my new samsung tablet a7 but the ps3 controller wont.. the ps3 controller works on my s7 edge but the xbox controller wont. i was about to do bAck flips lol when i decided to just try a ps3 knock off controller and batta bing batta boom COD HERE I COME LMAO.. Hi. Anyone got experience with connecting a Shenwan 2.4ghz gamepad to a MX10 Android TV box with Oreo. It has no inbuilt Bluetooth and the controller has a 2.4ghz USB dongle.
I'm going through the same problem however the gamepad is an IPEGA 9076, the MX10 does not recognize the USB dongle.
Yeah think it's maybe hit and miss then. Although the Shenwan or whoever the hell makes them, didn't work on any device at all eg ps3. Got refund and need to bin them!
I tried another and it works on the mx10.
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/192723335496
Having said that tho the games that support a pad are probably less than 10% of the ones I tried. So not great as a console but not really what the mx10 was designed for despite the marketing. If you want a cheap dongle controller I'd try the above tho and works for me on other devices. Good price and feels like a ps3 pad. Only thing missing is vibration function. Sounds wrong but there you go!
Would an update of the MX10 firmware solve this problem? I think the original Android Oreo of this tvbox is incompatible with gamepads.
