I currently have a mytouch 3g 1.0 running themed froyo, should i give it up and upgrade to the mytouch 4g or wait for dual cored phones that are right around the corner?
Post your thoughts please.
that is hard to answer, yes there are always new things around the corner. There are also bugs that come with new things as well. I would say right now the MT4G is the best device at the moment. And I think it will have the specs to stay in the market for a while and will get Gingerbread 2.3. I think within 6 months we will be looking at some new stable dual core devices.

I agree, there's ALWAYS something new right around the corner. Even after dual core phones become stable.
That's just how technology companies work.
So with that being said, I saw the MT4G, watched a CRAP ton of videos on it and decided it was worth it.
I couldn't be happier with the phone. =P
Good luck on your decision.
Decisions are sometimes hard to make. I have the MT4G and the Vibrant and the Nexus One. The MT4G is a wonderful phone. Probably the best all around phone I have ever owned. Having said that I also find it very difficult and anxiety producing to work with( probably due to the fact that i am a nubie but trying hard to increase my knowledge,) and all the problems surrounding root. I tried installing a simple apk file and it soft bricked the MT4G. This has not happened to me (yet!) with the other two phones and I have rooted and flashed roms on both of them. At this point I wish I had sent the MT4G back during remorse period and waited for either Nexus S or whatever comes out this month or next. I am not deprecating the MT4G as it is Great I am just stating for my level of expertise or lack of it the phone is not right for me and what I want to do with it( which is flash roms etc) at this point( my fault not the phones) and also to learn and increase my knowledge so that I can contribute to the community instead of always just asking for help. This is just a long winded way of saying" What is it you want the phone to do and how will you use it." Once again the MT4G is an excellent device.
It will all depend on what you use the phone for. As a power-user; the MT4G will hold me over for quite some time. I highly recommend it...IMHO of course.
But even though it's 2nd gem snap, I have a feeling it will become the = of a 528mhz processor within 6 months due to tetra 2 and Orion, etc. I know all tech does this. So wait for those or upp?

This phone is a beast and very stable. There are way too many unknowns with the dual cores at this point. I also heard that gingerbread can't utilize dual cores completely so it might not even be until honeycomb comes out (to the carriers not when google releases it) that we even see dual core phones.
Besides if in 6 months theres a phone you want just ebay this one to help alleviate the cost.

Last I checked that was a question....
As for this 4g I love it too and think its the best out but it will nearly be obsolete in a few months time too...that's technology today... Brand new today.... Old and out dated next week.

Hi, I know this probably isn't right section but I can't figure out where to put it. Anyways to the point, I was offered an Atrix for my TMO HD2. I'm going to accept, is their any reasons to decline and stay with the HD2?
Well, it depends what your trading it for? HD2 has a lot of updates coming up soon, and I'm awaiting for the awesome dev's to finally make Sense 3 for everyday use. Probably more rom's and etc are good for the HD2, also you can run Win Phone 7. Which is really great once it's fully working. So if you're trading it for like an iPhone, i wouldn't take it because a new one is coming out soon and not really worth it. If it's a like IE: Sensation, I would take it because of it's 1.2ghz dual core and more features like camera and etc. But overall HD2 is still good for now.
oh sorry wait, its an atrix hah nvm, i quickly tried to read it and i didn't catch up now it. Ehh maybe? It depends if anything good is on the Atrix i'm not really in Moto phones atm. Don't really have a fond of them.

Motorola Atrix, it's mentioned a couple times in the thread.
yeah sorry man, read the other post i have xD
Now that the N1 is 'obsolete' and ICS isn't coming I feel as though it may be time to move on.
This may take a while though as I effectively have no money and the money I get from the N1 is the majority of what I can spend.
Basically the deal is that I can get either £85 quickly from a recycle site or no more than £100-120 selling my N1 and from Ebay I have found that for this with some lucky bidding I could get a nice used LG Optimus 2X or Motorola Atrix.
Not exactly the best N1 replacements but both have Tegra 2 and are good for the money.
This will be a depressing upgrade and I'll miss this forum but its time for my N1 to go.
If anyone in the UK has any hints for getting a cheapish replacement with better hardware please tell me. The limit is £120 really, thats all I can spare.
If I don't post between now and then, goodbye and thanks everyone!
Are you completely missing the thread on ICS AOSP going on over on the dev forum? They are making huge progress. In less than a week we'll have a strong working build... don't give up on the N1 yet!
Yeah sorry I have seen that thread and yes it's brilliant but I just seriously want to move onto another phone now. I've just suffered too many problems from the N1 and being denied ICS kinda tipped me over the edge.
In all fairness though it could take some time to get a replacement this way so I will be keeping involved with that thread.
But the N1 just isn't for me anymore...
If it were me then and I wanted to upgrade within that price range, the Atrix is a good choice... However, I would rather find a Nexus S though to upgrade to ICS sooner. The devs for that phone are making huge progress and it is now fully functional. I bet you could find a good condition used NS if you're interested, but know in advance that the specs aren't really that different than the N1. Well, good luck anyway...
I am in the same boat the denial of ICS for the n1, kinda set me off, only reason I am looking for a new phone. Luckily for my n1 I can't afford a new one for a while, and texasice and many other brilliant people have been working on a good soon to be fully stable and functioning build. I haven't tried alpha 8 or 9 yet. But was quite happy with them.
Problem is, I have yet to find a phone that I can even say is remotely a good replacement. I wanted the T-Mobile G2 to be it, but it was just way to big. Love the having the keyboard though.
But I know how you feel. I don't think anyone would buy mine, it slid down a roof screen down, and scratched up, a corner of the glass is broke (in an non multi-touch functioning area).
Best of luck to you in finding a home. Hopefully someone here would love to buy it. I would for my girlfriend, as she hates her Samsung Captivate. But I don't have no money too lol.
Maybe a tip -however, above your proposed budget: I'm in the same ship, leaving my (really loved!) N1 because of lack of ICS support from Google.
Here in the Netherlands you can get Nexus S for eur 250, simlock-free; as for me, the best choice at this moment. You can order one at different sites (belsimpel.nl, phoneshop.nl, etc), eur 250 for a Google phone, getting ICS update among the first looks me a good deal/ upgrade of my loved N1.
Why not wait for a new quad core phone? No point in buying other obsolete hardware like an atrix. I personally wouldn't get anything less than a Galaxy Nexus, and even that is dual core.
Just wait for a WXGA quad core phone. Your nexus still has life in it! I just switched to MIUI and that will keep me happy until ICS gets hardware acceleration. You will regret upgrading now in a few months.

Yeah sure if you can get the OP a quad core for £120 like he said he had available. I'm in the same boat myself and the Atrix is the only dual core for that price range. Even got me thinking about it but I hate the MotoBlur crap its infected with and not removable from what I've seen although can be somewhat hidden which makes me think Nexus S maybe my best option.
At least if your gonna give advice read the OP first properly before commenting.
Have you tried comparemymobile dot com?
Before you completely give up on your N1, I suggest you give the ICS cm9 ROM a try. It made me fall in love with my n1 all over again lol. The latest update is really fluid and stable. Well that is just my opinion, wouldn't hurt to try.

im with this guy, im runing the latest alpha ICS rom for a couple of days now as a daily driver and im loving it and this is just the alpha...
if thats not enough to keep the good old n1 then go for the nexus s its pretty cheap and is getting official ics... though i personally hate plastic samsung hehe
Yeah, if you're working on a budget, there is no practical reason to upgrade from the Nexus One.
If you can get a slightly better phone, it will not be worth it. Take your current budget and keep it in a safe place for the Nexus 4 next year. Right now you won't be getting your money's worth. And the Nexus One is a great phone that will have a good ICS rom soon.
I could spend the money to upgrade to the Galaxy Nexus, it's not so much a budget problem, but a practicality problem. My phone is great, and will last me another year.

+1
The Nexus One really is the best of what is available within our price range, I just really don't like the styling of the Nexus S and its cheap arse casing and for what I gain it is not enough to tear me away from my trackball colour notifications
So for me I'm gonna buy it a Christmas present of a brand new housing and feel happy knowing that although considered 'old' now she still has the legs to more than stand her own.
Nexus S +s:
nfc?
Google talk video/voice chat?
Short term ICS?
Still with my N1

I agree with you. My 2 year's old N1 tastes ICS (thanks to blackrose and texasice!!). A new beginning without any cost!! Don't care if google doesn't support, devs are here to do the job and it's a great job. Thanks to all of them. Just have to wait few more days (Christmas present?) to have a beta version but alpha11 is quite good!
Just wondering.
Your thoughts of when will the devs stop developing roms for the HD2. Is the hardware gonna be the issue? For instance, is Jellybean still gonna be a challenge?
I love my HD2 and during all the great new roms i am not even considering to buy me a new phone
We all hope it will never stop to be honest. I mean the HD2 is a pretty powerful device and more and more roms are being cooked and updated everyday, and even though Android or WP7 was never intended for it, the devs will always find a way to port it to the HD2.
But realistically speaking, I'm giving it another year and a half until the HD2's successor is released. There's bound to be a more powerful phone - with more powerful technology and the ability to customize it to no ends - someday.
Will it?
HD2 is one of the best phone. No not even HTC saw the future of the phone. I won't be surprised if it can run jelly bean.
Maybe it was a test?
Maybe it was a test?
Maybe it's the reason this site exists?
Maybe it's to get everybody else to do the work for nothing?
Maybe it's all in good faith?
But there is something going on for sure.........:cyclops:
oops, should be in the demented thread!!!
My thoughts are that it will end by the end of next year. The single core cpu, the resolution, the back only camera, etc... will all catch up to it. "all things that have a beginning, have an end".
What's the point of asking? All you're going to get is a bunch of speculation that probably is incorrect..
Hey guys,
I have a one plus one, the one plus 2 does look good, but my question here simply is: For those of you that own it, is it worth it? I'm on the fence about getting one and would like advice on this from people who actually own it and have first hand experience with it!
Kind Regards,
haynes11
apart of getting a little hot while playing games its amazing but nowadays the development is in very early stages, but i dont own a opo so i dont know if the diferences worth the money
Only you can really say if it's worth it. If you have the money and you want one then why not? If money is tight and your OP1 is still going strong then why not wait for next years model?
That's fair enough! I'm guessing it's a tad buggy still? If I do decide I want one from your guys advice I'll probably wait a while till it's stable!
I've not encountered any bugs, phone is solid as a rock, battery life is great. There are a few things about Oxygen I'd change but then I've never yet had a phone I didn't 'customise' to suit me better.
It's the same for when the OPO was first released. Bugs and battery life issues and even manufacturing issues. I own both and unless you want the camera and really want to stick with OnePlus, I don't think it's worth it if you already have the OPO. With the mature roms and kernel of the OPO, I'm not impressed at all with the OP2. I would just wait for it to mature before getting it unless you're like me and don't mind paying for immediate and current releases. Maybe when Android M comes out it'll be better but as it stands, without that and non existent hacks for fingerprint sensor, no rom has support for it.
There are numerous other threads where the same or similar question has already been asked. There is no need for yet another "Should I buy it" type thread.
