DP5 to MM unenroll OTA - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone have the link to the DP5 to MM OTA unenroll zip?
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: P.S. I have already unenrolled from the beta program, however not before my phone started bootlooping, so I can't receive the OTA that way. (Bootloader is also locked).

Thanks, but I have already unenrolled, however not before my phone started bootlooping, so I can't receive the OTA that way.

Download the latest MTC20V from Google and flash away. You can also install Wugfresh Nexus toolkit. And install from there.
Another thing you could try is do a reset in the bootloader by pressing Power and Volume- together.

No joy with any of those.
I can sideload angler-ota-npd90g-5baa69c2.zip, but it won't let me sideload any Marshmallow OTA's.
Still bootloops though.
I guess it's back to Google for the device if I can't find the unenroll OTA as my last resort.

Update OTA with root and TWRP

I know theres treads out there but i feel like they are complicating things or old posts. I am currently rooted with TWRP and stock rom. I want to get rid of damn android update notification. I have the april patches and this is for the may patches. I tried downloading the incremental zip and flashing it in twrp but that didnt work. Can i sideload it with adb? Do I need to remove root before doing that?

I just faced a similar situation. I was still on the stock launch image (MDA89D), but rooted and using Xposed. I just never took the time before then to update to a newer build, but finally wanted to.
I was going to sideload the most recent OTA update manually via ADB. Then I realized that the Nexus Root Toolkit by WugFresh (link here) should work for that. I performed a nandroid backup, attempted to unroot via SuperSu (which failed), disabled my Xposed modules uninstalled Xposed, then used the Sideload OTA Update option in the toolkit's Advanced Utilities to install the latest OTA (downloaded from Google's site here).
I was a little doubtful that it would work for me on the first try, but it did! I re-rooted using the Toolkit, got things re-enabled, and it's all good.
Also, if you use Xposed, the GravityBox module allows you to suppress notifications, so you could get rid of the update one.
Best of luck getting updated!

The best way to flash an OTA while your phone is rooted and has TWRP, is by installing it through the FlashFire app. Easy and extremely reliable.

You must do the following:
1. Return to complete stock - that means get rid of root and TWRP. Best way to do that is download the factory image from Google, extract the boot, recovery, and system images from the factory image, and Flash those, for example: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img Don't flash data.img so you can keep your data.
2. OTAs depend on stock recovery to load, so now that you're back to stock, you have 2 choices. You can simply boot your phone normally, wait for the notification for the update, install it, and you're done - or, you can access android's stock recovery and side load the OTA zip using ADB. Good luck

I forgot to mention that I also had TWRP recovery installed. The result was like it is with a normal OTA update, as none of my data/apps/settings were affected. Worked like a charm!

I just download the monthly update and use fastboot without the wipe option and it does the incremental.
I've done this for the last three months, including this one.
Once you are rooted and have TWRP, just use fastboot for updates.

I guess you can call it that.
The bottom line is, once you root or install TWRP; the only reliable method is some sort of flash.
If you rooted the phone manually and didn't use some one click tool, then this should be easy.
I shy away from the one click tool because if the tool is not updated or becomes unsupported, what then.

I also avoid using any toolkits. Yes I know they are fast and easy, and of course someone's hardwork. But I like to everything manual, same as you. :highfive:
I usually like to do things like that manually, because I like to know how things work. But I was under a bit of a time crunch at that point, so decided to try the Nexus Root Toolkit. Though I do understand the procedure of sideloading OTA updates via ADB, from researching and reading on the forums here.
Anywho, I hope you are able to get it going OP.
The OTA fixed it for me, thank you so much!

Recieved OTA update for marshmallow. But cant install it because my phone is rooted.

After a looong time my m9+ recieved marshmallow update just now. When i tap the install, it goes to TWRP and nothing happens further. What am i supposed to do?
Should i unroot my phone? Or is there any files i can download to get the marshmallows?
I had the same problem You should unroot
Relock the bootloader then install stock firmware

Stock unrooted device in soft-brick bootloop running 7.1.1

Hi,
So quick summary of what happened. I went to make coffee, came back to desk and my N6P has been stuck in boot loop.
It was running the latest Android 7.1.1 build (NPF26F)
I can access fastboot and recovery fine. However, I can't flash anything from fastboot as the device wasn't unlocked.
I tried wiping data / factory & cache from fastboot and recovery with no difference in result.
I also can't seem to sideload anything as all the OTA's from google come back with 'Can't install this package (%Date of build%) over newer build.
The latest OTA i can find is: 7.1.1 NMF26F (angler-ota-nmf26f-61b4a915.zip)
I also tried the official 7.0 NBD91K (angler-ota-nbd91k-32c2eac8.zip) with the same result.
Is there a different OTA I can use or can I force it to sideload an older version or any other suggestions?
I really don't want to have to deal with my telco. I'll be without a phone for weeks if I have to :'(
I have a phone with the same problem. Haven't gotten an answer yet. I am starting to wonder if it's an issue with the build.

When you say haven't gotten an answer yet.... you posted it somewhere? I bet an easy fix for google would be to release a newer full OTA... but unless they respond in a day, i'll be returning phone...

You can unlock bootloader if you have fast boot. The computer needs to recognise your phone. Then just follow the steps in the beginner's guide.

No, unfortunately, you can no longer unlock nexus devices from just the bootloader. You need access to Android OS.

Install Android SDK or find adb mini bundle. Download latest factory images from Google's website. Run this command to sideload the factory image. You DON'T need unlocked bootloader for this command.

adb sideload yourFactoryImagesFile

You never went into Developer Options and toggled the "allow OEM Unlock"? If not, you will not be able to unlock bootloader via fastboot.
And are you positive you did a proper "factory reset" from recovery? From stock, this should get you out of a boot loop. The naming convention Google used for DP2/Public Release was screwed up and I've seen others reporting the inability to flash OTA's but the solution was to flash the full Google image. As someone else suggested, until a new OTA hits with a newer (higher) number, you may be out of luck. Maybe someone with more experience can help with perhaps altering the OTA signature?

Yup never did it :'(
Didn't think I needed to unlock / root my devices anymore since I can get all the functionality out of stock android these days. Though now I feel like I'm being punished for not unlocking it :'(
I'm positive I did a factory reset from recovery. I do believe flashing a full google image would fix the issue, but im unable to from fastboot as device is locked and sideload images appear to be older :'(
Really sorry to hear this, and I know being without the phone even for a day or two is inconvenient at best. Could be critical for your work or school. Most every bootloop I have encountered, I've been able to fix by re-flashing the kernel. Either stock or custom... like EX Kernel. Have you ever played with WugFresh's NRT? You can temp flash TWRP and maybe temp flash or flash the kernel? This probably won't work with a locked bootloader If you could just start the OS, you could toggle the OEM unlock. At a minimum, TWRP will give you a file manager, MTP file transfer, wiping and other tools. If you have time, it may be worth a try. Other than that, successfully altering the signature of the OTA may work, but I've not seen any work on this, but have never had to look. I'd keep searching for ppl having the difficulty of going from DP2 to Public Release (older/newer) and see if there was another solution other than flashing the full image, which obviously you can't do right now. Good luck, and let us know if you make any progress.
Edit : Read here for possible help. This may work in conjunction with getting TWRP installed via NRT.

Many ppl have had problems sideloading the OTA coming from DP2 to Public Release NPF26F->>NMF26F and not just the 6P. Because the Public release numerically is "older" the OTA will not flash. When unlocked, the solution was to flash the full Google image, rather than the OTA. Why in their infinite wisdom Google did this I have no idea. Options are very slim when your bootloader is locked and you are stuck in a boot loop. OP cannot flash a full image when the NMF26F OTA is parsed as being "older".

I believe it's because the latest OTA on https://developers.google.com/android/ota is 7.1.1 (NMF26F) and my phone is already running 7.1.1 build (NPF26F).

This guy gets it!!! Yeah, I've unlocked a lot of my older devices and am comfortable with 'messing' my devices, but I didn't with the 6p as the stock experience is great now. But now I feel like I'm being punished because my device is dead with no recourse for action. Unless google release a newer full OTA.
If you haven't given up yet and gone back to the carrier with the phone, try the NRT toolkit to temp flash TWRP, and then FORMAT each partition, then try to reflash OTA with TWRP. Under "Advanced Utilities".

Firstly your link is broken: It's http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guide-fool-noob-proof-to-clean-installs-t3518311
Secondly as I've mentioned a few times including the OP. The device is locked. You need access to Android OS to unlock. It can not be done just from bootloader. So this does not work, but thanks for posting the suggestion anyway.

Hi... Did you enroll into the beta program? If yes, you'll have to "un-enroll" from the beta program... And you'll recieve an OTA notification. When? I don't know.
If you just flashed the beta OTA, you'll have to wait until the new final version gets released. If you don't want to wait, you'll most likely have to reflash a full system image...
Cheers...

The reason is Google flash step 3 in 7.1.2, step 1 is flash the recovery to boot , after reboot to continue step2 . not one time to flash all .img.
We stop in step2 , but the boot is flashing in step 1 .
So, if have an downgrade zip . we can rollback to 7.1.1

Finding that particular downgrade zip will be extremely difficult. Even ppl with fully functional phones have waited weeks and not received it. Not many ppl in your position know how to capture the link. Because you are bootloader locked, you only have a couple of options. If you have a stock recovery, what build is shown on the recovery screen? Have you done a full factory reset from stock recovery? If you have TWRP, there is a flashable zip that works in the 7.1.2 beta thread (if you can get it on the phone).
You can't flash a full factory image because your bootloader is locked? You can try long pressing the power button until your phone powers off and then turn it on again. Occasionally that works if you get stuck at the bootloader.

You can also try a factory reset and see if that helps.
