go into settings / general / about phone / software info / and click model number 10 or so times to unlock developer options. you will now find it under settings / general / developer options. you will want to check the enable OEM lock tab. you now have an unlocked bootloader and can access recovery from any app.

It exists if you upgrade to 6.0 Marshmallow, but is useless because we can't access bootloader or fastboot mode to flash twrp without root which is unavailable via one-click root methods.

After unlocking the bootloader a month ago or so and installing tpxmm , I noticed oem unlock under developer options was disabled.
Well I had to enable oem unlock to disable device protection to reinstall tpxmm.
Should this be set to disabled now after install?

Doesn't matter. That setting only affects whether you can use the "fastboot oem unlock" command. Since your bootloader is currently unlocked, that setting will have no affect.

Old thread, but still relevant.
Are we sure about this? If "OEM unlocking" is disabled, does Moto's bootloader not block flashing certain images? I have read about other devices not allowing modification with this setting disabled, including flashing back to stock. The solution was restoring a full backup of stock in TWRP, then booting stock and enabling OEM unlocking.
Can anybody confirm if this is the case with the MXPE?

That's the phone I have.
In Android OS, Developer Settings -> Allow OEM Unlocking is Off, but boot loader was previously unlocked and I have TWRP 3.0.0 installed. Rebooting to bootloader shows
Code:
Device is UNLOCKED. Status code: 3
Software status: Modified
I was able to upgrade to TWRP 3.0.2 using fastboot despite the Developer Settings- > Allow OEM Unlocking setting.
Re-locking the bootloader and restoring to stock as a bit of a process for another thread and if your bootloader shows "Device is LOCKED" then you will need to change the setting in Android before fastboot oem unlock will work. I've never had to change the setting since then, though, and every factory reset in android set it back to Off.

Thank you for the info. Have you tried flashing stock recovery with the setting off? If so, no issues?

Not in a log time, so I just tried just now and did the following.
Installed factory recovery
booted into factory recovery
wiped cache (I couldn't remember how to get the menu in the factory recovery, so that took a while =D)
booted into android
rebooted back to boot loader
flashed twrp
booted into recovery to verify twrp installed and is functional
Everything seems to be working.

You flashed stock recovery with the OEM unlocking option turned off, correct? That's what I was reading on a Hauwei device was the problem. With the setting turned off in stock, it wouldn't let him flash stock recovery image. He had to restore via twrp backup.

Yes, I left the OEM unlocking option in Developer Settings turned off through the whole process. I haven't turned that setting on since I originally unlocked my bootloader back in January.
I would really appreciate it if someone who owns the tablet could:
1. Check if there is a "enable oem unlock" option under developer settings.
2. Try installing twrp,
3. Flashing Su.
I imagine whether the bootloader can be unlocked will be make or break for many people.
Thank you

yes the option is there and the bootloader can be easily unlocked using fastboot. i have already tried it and locked it again.
i don't think it will be wise to install a recovery which hasn't been ported to the device before.

Thank you for that! I guess I took having a TWRP port for my device as granted.

oem unlock is supported.
I can't find a suitable TWRP yet.
What about now ? If it exists, could somebody notices me ? Thanks ~
Hey guys, so I bought a second hand Nexus 6P, and it was running the latest android beta.
Is there anyway for me to rollback or downgrade the version, so that I can unlock boot loader, and root the device?
I'm interested in installing this rom

I don't run the previews, so forgive me if I'm missing something here, but.. why do you need to downgrade to unlock the bootloader? Do the previews not have the "OEM Unlocking" option in developer settings? All you need to do to is enable that and then plug it in to a PC and use "fastboot flashing unlock" to unlock the bootloader. That will wipe the entire phone, including internal storage. Then just fastboot a custom recovery and install your ROM of choice.
If the previews don't have the OEM unlocking option, then log into your Gmail account on the 6P and then visit Android.com/beta and it should show your device enrolled in the beta, select unenroll. This will also wipe all data including internal storage. From there you'd go back to my first paragraph.
Read this and familiarize yourself with it and you're good to go!

Hopefully you were able to figure it out! But like you discovered, it does have an OEM unlocking option. I'm running the dev preview, and rooting is just as easy. If you haven't found any guides here's what you need to do.
Also, make sure you also turn on USB Debugging in your developer settings.
If you've already unlocked your phone, then you already have adb set up. In the case that you don't, install adb on your computer. This tool ( forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979 ) is very easy to use, although there are other ways to get adb. Run it and select yes to all to install adb. You access adb through your cmd.
1) Download TWRP (custom recovery) from here - dl.twrp.me/angler/
2) Download SuperSU onto your phone from here - download.chainfire.eu/1014/SuperSU/SR5-SuperSU-v2.78-SR5-20161130091551.zip
3) Put your phone into fastboot. Power down and then hold power and volume down until fastboot pops up. Plug into your pc and then open command prompt.
4) Type " fastboot flash recovery * ". The * should be replaced with the location of the file and then the file name such as C:\Users\Kris\Desktop\twrp-3.0.2-2-angler.img
then hit enter and it should write your recovery.
5) Use your volume down button to scroll to the tab that says recovery. Hit your power button to boot into recovery.
6) You'll get a popup and go ahead and swipe to allow your system to be modified. Tap on the "Install" tab in the top left. Locate the SuperSU zip and select it. Swipe to flash it.
7) Once that's completed hit reboot and you're successfully rooted!
I may be overlooking something simple, but following the first steps in jcadduono's guide :
INSTRUCTIONS
If you are flashing TWRP on a locked bootloader, you must first enable OEM unlocking on your device.
You can do this by navigating to Settings -> About phone -> Tap "Build number" 7 times.
Now navigate to Settings -> Advanced settings -> Developer options -> Enable "OEM unlocking".
Follow the steps below with the FASTBOOT_UNLOCK package first, then go into fastboot mode and use the
"fastboot oem unlock" command to unlock (and wipe) your device. Download adb and fastboot below.

I have:
Enabled "OEM unlocking"
- Settings -> About phone -> Tap "Build number" 7 times
- Settings -> Advanced settings -> Developer options -> Enable "OEM unlocking"
- (Also enable USB Debugging)
Followed the steps with the FASTBOOT_UNLOCK package
- Installed the Qualcomm QUSB_BULK drivers
- D/Led, installed, opened MiFlash
- D/Led, unzipped, selected A2017U_FASTBOOT_UNLOCK_EDL
- Attached A2017U to PC and booted into EDL mode (Volume Up + Volume Down + Power)
- Flashed A2017U_FASTBOOT_UNLOCK_EDL using MiFlash (successful)
Go into fastboot mode and use the "fastboot oem unlock" command to unlock
When attempting to enter fastboot mode (Volume Up + Power) I'm returned to EDL mode instead. Attempting any other boot mode sticks at 'ZTE...powered by Android' screen.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
Update: I D/Led and flashed...
B15-NEW_FULL (Nougat)
This will install the entirety of the B15-NEW firmware and boot stack, including signed OEM system and boot. OTA capable and unlocks fastboot operations.

However fastboot is still locked. :-/
Hi,
1. My plans are Magisk Root ( version 25.2 ) & then TWRP through TWRP Official App. I want to unlock the bootloader & make sure there are no related issues.
2. I see there is no option available for Unlocking OEM Bootloader in developer options on the model. Also tried the 7 days date fooling method but still no such options appear.
3. Fastboot commands are not recognized by the model.
4. And the bootloader screen tells : Qualcomm Secure Boot : Enable ( CSB ) & Secure Download : Enable
Please help!

Hi, Samsung doesn't have fastboot mode, it only has odin. I'm not sure, but I feel that there is no need to have an unlocked bootloader on a phone this old. I know it may sound ridiculous, but I also had a Samsung with android 5 and in the settings I enabled OEM unlocking and installed TWRP without problems using odin. Try it too

that setting is not available for this device. Probably, ''Qualcomm Secure Boot'' is it's place holder & the thing to disable.
One or two posts on this forum mentions Qualcomm Secure Boot ( CSB ). Even one thread briefs about unresolved booting / loading problems due to that.
I have another Samsung phone which has Oem Unlocking setting. When enabled, it says OEM Lock : OFF & FRP Lock : OFF & everything else quite clear / as desired.
Anyway, Thanks for the response!
