I just ordered a Nexus 6p - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As the title says,i just ordered it.
What to expect...?The best android phones i had were note 3 , xperia x2 , lg g2(with cloudg3 ofc,it's another phone compared to stock). What to expect from this phone....I use it quite alot....but light use....facebook whatsapp mails and ssh.Neither of these are demanding tasks.....I use a phone for like 5-6 hrs SoT.(1-1.5 are afk with screen on time).
Do you think it's possible to achive 6 hrs SoT with stock?
The stock rom is nice....i don't feel a need for it especially that i'm more focused on privacy and i don't quite accept the ideea of a custom recovery that could have some backdoors in it.
How is the performance?
Does any1 has any fix for the bad camera app? What is your experience with this phone?

It's better than any of the Android phones you've used before. Far better.

Hi, I was on a Note 3 also, wich was really amazing, bought a Nexus 6p a couple of mounths ago, it's a stuning, everything is great : Camera (best low light pics), Screen (with a custom kernel) is amazing, smooth like butter, good battery life 4-5 hours SoT.
For security, the bests rom are at least mounthly updated, with latest security patchs, so don't worry about that

Welcome to XDA! Expect a fun party every day... enjoy your N6p.

You may think twice before getting that device right now with everything else in the market.I moved to a G2 because of OPPO's poor software situation and lack luster battery life. Also the price hasn't dropped officially from OPPO.
I did, and still want it. If software is all that's 'wrong' with it then I'm sure they, or some clever ROM maker, will fix it eventually. And for me the price is still well in terms with the amount of hardware I'm getting so ... I'm sticking with the choice.
Thanks again.
If you're comfortable with rooting and installing another ROM, there's no reason the crummy Oppo ROM should prevent you from getting it. There are a few ROM's around here that are VERY good, and perform as good if not better than CM and others performed on my Sony Xperia T.
I don't undervolt or tweak anything beyond visuals, and my battery life is good. Disclosure - I am a business user.

yeah maxwen and codefirex are my top recommendations.CM sucks until we get another maintainer. Why because an interim maintainer screwed over fixes the former did work on like robotic voice during calls.
I totally agree. The device itself is very nice. The stock rom just sucks. If you are keen with getting a custom rom then this is a good deal.
Also the price should drop down soon.
Here in Thailand you can get the device already for around 14000 Baht / 350 Euro at the grey market.
It is a dev friendly phone. Absolutely no reason to use stock.

I have it from 2 weeks and my impression is very good. A bit worried what it gonna happen when it drops: it's quite heavy and his shape isn't drop-frielndy... Before I got a Galaxy S-plus and a Galaxy Nexus, both rounded on corners: several drops never a scratch

Check out the video on my Find 5 cases.Mine did drop.
maxwen FTW. He keeps the almost dead HTC One V development alive by contributing great ROM and Kernel.
Only Chuck Norris can judge me
After 8 mouth the oppo find 5 have only an issue the battery... obviusly with dev Rom.
That thing looks like it has crazyyyy lag.
When you double tapped the screen to wale up, it took almost 2 seconds.
Even when switching between apps it takes long.

The video in FP isn't even close to what todays roms offer (Luckily )
Liquidsmooth is liquidsmooth (pun intended), just like CM, Team EOS, PA, and most others. Only rom that bugs me is stock OPPO rom. There are multiple custom kernels but for me personally Team EOS + void custom kernel result in best performace AND battery life with an average of 3.5-4 hours screen on time on a full day. Win/Win for me. That isn't that different from a nexus 4 is it?
Hi boertjeg
Can u show me what setting u use to get battery life like that

With liquidsmooth i do around 2:30h with a little downclock. The battery is toooo small.

A noob's journey to find a custom ROM for best battery life Galaxy S2 GT-I9100

Greetings All,
First post here so I hope I don't f#@% up.
I know there've been a million threads closed about this because everyone's setup and usage is different. I found it really frustrating to not get an 'answer', thinking to myself ‘why not compare apples with apples?’ ie stock vs custom ROM with the same usage. So I thought I'd share my experience for anyone else frustrated with the lack of “The Answer”
I bought a refurbished (new screen, battery and back cover) SGS2 GT-I9100 unlocked with Vodafone stock ROM. I was getting the battery warning at 4 hours (!) after a few calls and texts, about 15 min of FB, same for Gmail (WiFi on/Data off at home), and about an hour of driving with Google Navigation and playing music (Wifi/Data/GPS on). Battery usage showed that next to the screen at #1, GPS/Navigation was the biggest drain followed by playing music. All the other stuff was insignificant by comparison.
By uninstalling and disabling everything Samsung, Vodafone, and stuff I didn’t use, it stretched to 6 hours. 50% improvement but still unacceptable as I wanted to get at least a work-day plus travel ie 10 hours.
So a custom ROM was required which started the saga of rooting. Did hours of research and unsuccessfully tried a few through a Samsung developers’ program (Odin?). I finally resorted to spending money and sent the IMEI# to online services. Some said the phone was rootable, some not. I paid my twenty-five bucks to 1-ClickRoot and it didn’t work (but I used it to root my wife’s Motorola Mileston2) and finally rooted the SGS2 with Framaroot (I think it was either free or the price of a can of Coke). Couldn’t have been simpler – downloaded the file with the browser, explored to the (apk?) file and opened it, tried the first 2 vulnerability options unsuccessfully and on the third, success. Rebooted – voila.
I tried a few custom ROMs that, while they were highly recommended and had all the customisable bells and whistles and ‘great battery life’, I didn’t like the UI. Plus I just wanted a ‘normal’ phone with a good camera (I’m a hobby photographer) which could also browse the web, use GPS navigation, play music, have custom ringtones and pics for contacts, and the ‘important’ stuff for me at the bottom of the home screens - phone, messaging, contacts, browser and apps. I didn’t need to be able to customise virtually everything on the phone and some of these ROMs were 400-900MB compared to under 200MB for most.
Which brings me to CyanogenMod 10.1 (CM10.1). The UI is closer to standard (plus many more options) so I found the transition from the stock ROM easy. And with the same usage PLUS an EXTRA hour of Google Navigation/GPS/music – 10 hours easy with 20-33% battery left (!). Added a high capacity battery (2600mAh over 1800mAh factory, same physical size) and I now go from 0700 to 0100 the following day regularly – 18 hours with 1-9% battery left.
Hope this helps…
Cheers,
Ferenc
25 bucks for rooting
Eek i get about 5hrs + screen on time wid ics 4.0.4 xwlpt wid speedmod kernel....
Btw since u are hobby photographer.. The camera app on cm10.1 sucks when compared to that of the stock...so does the picture quality ...
No regrets here??
Best battery would be NeatROM +Apolo Kernel IMO
I've got two ROMs that deliver really nice battery life:
1. XWKE7 2.3.3 Samsung Stock (somehow it doesn't deliver such a good battery life now)
- This once got me through 3 days of regular usage with roundabout 10% left. Somhow "Android OS" drains me now, so I get two days maximum.
2. CM10.1 stable + DorimanX 9.14 kernel
- Got a tip about this combo from a friend, and well, it rocks. If you want an up-to-date version of android and great battery life, choose this.
There is various things you can do.I use rooted stock rom, running custom kernel and have all the crap stripped out.
I find custom roms better in some things and worse in others=overall not worth it for me.
You try what you like, but a GB rom c/w speedmod should be good.
That 25 bucks though...
Best Combo would be NeatROM (Extra-Lite) JB + Apolo Kernel 4.13 (Extreme V2, if possible for your phone and won't reboot)
weirdly enough but best power consumption I ever had on SG2 was with CM11 from 10-Dec-2013 by Wayland_ACE
(I've used mostly CM nightlies starting from 7.2)
Later versions from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2597199 much worse for some reason...
Not enough time to investigate fully yet, but BetterBatteryStats shows very similar picture...
Now just flashed this one - http://download.cyanogenmod.org/get/jenkins/57551/cm-11-20140202-NIGHTLY-i9100.zip .... we'll see...
CM 11 with ART runtime solved all my leakages during sleep mode. (Some apps like "stocks" were draining power when Dalvik was used)
CM11 nightlies seem to be good and stable, the only issue is: phone doesn't enter a deep sleep after charging(stuck on 200MHz). Shut down & power up solves, yet very annoying issue.
One thing, GB tops in battery life...
But i dont like it(GB theme is ugly)

Thanks for your response Doc
Twenty five bucks is cheap for a root Ok, it was 2am and I was desperate to root my phone after 18 hours of research over a coupla'days and repeated attempts which never ended up with SuperUser in my Apps drawer. I know better now...
Tonight I have 33% battery left after 12hrs/4.5hrs screen on - pretty happy...
Funny you say the cm10.1 camera app sux - yeah sure the colours are a bit over-saturated (but gee it makes for pretty pictures ) but so far i've found the lag between shutter-press and shot, and Auto White-Balance the best so far, other than Fast Burst Camera which for me is too low res for anything other than phone screen or Facebook/YouTube small window viewing on PC. I take a lot of pics of my happy 4yo daughter who stubbornly refuses to smile 'properly' 'at' the camera and her most delightful smiles are at the top of a swing which has been pushed a bit too hard (I'm getting quite good at predicting the lag now, but MANY missed pearls). I've installed Camera 4.2 for panorama shots (can't remember what the google name is) and find it has too few options for me (particularly white balance) and much the same lag. You sound like a bit of a camera app connoisseur - any suggestions for no lag (I mean really, it's digital, can't you capture it NOW?)/accurate white balance/good colour saturation? I really only got a mobile phone when the cameras got good enough to 'replace' a point-and-shoot, so camera is a biggy for me
Cheers,
Ferenc
okay... still using CM11 nightlies, finally can leave the phone not in charger overnight and still use it next day.
average charge loss (radio and wifi on) is 2 to 4% per hour, some syncs are enabled. Also ART(supposedly unsupported by CM) enabled.
All is smooth.
@ferenczoltan - u r a camera pro ... I m a noob in terms of camera and i can only look for end user comparison points like touch to focus or image blurriness and few more... For me the stock camera app seems to more hardware dedicated..
As for rom .. 4.5hrs screen on time and still 1/3rd juice left? 2000mAh battery ..right?
Edit - saw ur old.reply... its 2600mAh
I like this thread. I would suggest adding a poll to it so that users can vote for the best battery life rom.
I've been trying a lot of roms with the goal to find one that that has a good battery life and even if some roms are better that others none are excellent. It makes me laugh when I read that you judge a rom on its built-in apps (camera...) since you can instal all the apps you need (like a better camera on xda or even on the market.
I don't know if I'm the only one but I get the feeling that the "out of the box" rom and kernel gave me the better results but I won't go back to full stock, that's for sure.
Currently on : Neat extra lite + Apollo V2

To be more precise...stock rom camera libs are much more better as compared to custom ones. no matter which app I use in custom roms the quality is still inferior when compared to stock ..
And yes u r right .. out of the box combo is the best m on stock rom 4.1.2 deodexed zipalign rooted and wid a secure kernel (my own kitchen made rom)
Wizzedkat
Guys has anyone using Wizzedkat rom?
Battery life on that rom is terrible...had to revert back to slimsaber 4.4.2
Haven't tried deodexed stock roms yet. On KK, the best battery life was on beanstalk, AOSB and Cyan fox. Amazing deep sleep battery life for AOSB and beanstalk. Stock kernel.
Hey,
I also had battery problems on my previous rom so I went looking for another rom... I ended up with Chameleon rom, it is based on stock samsung(4.1.2[emoji20]) firmware with pure aosp look (everything related to samsung is replaced by aosp apps except the camera) it also has aokp ROM Control included so you are able to tweak the rom and the best part is the screen time... 4 hours on a 2 year old stock samsung battery

Battle of the ROM

Hello, because development for G4 has increased considerably ,i want to know who it's 'best' rom for G4 , in your opinion . I made a pool above to vote . A good day.
IMO I really like Imperium, best overall ROM I just keep going back to. However, battery life sucks on all stock ROMs I have tried. I was on various CM/AOSP ROMs for last few months as the battery life improved almost 4x more time between charges!! The best I found there with absolutely no problems, was CandySix. The others had a few small bugs here and there, DU/RR. I ended up going back to Imperium yesterday because I miss the camera and so far, touch wood, the battery is a lot better, took it off charge last night about 8pm and still at 50% now (16:20), almost CM quality!
I have been using cyanogenmod for 5 years on my previous phones, with this phone though I REALLY like the camera on this phone and thats the only reason why I am on the stock rooted and debloated rom, I cant explain how much I like AOSP look and feel on my phones (I am currently on the verge of getting a HTC 10)
Camera quality is terrible on any rom that is not based on stock rom.

but out of box still 7gb free. i mean 16gb version
Well if you can live with 32 gb, change battery with a non oem, and use lollipop version, (if you care for good photos), then go for it.

what ??? i can live with 16gb but my music cant hold up 10,8GB BECAUSE MY MUSIC HOLD 10,8GB ON PHONE SAYS FREE SPACE JUST 8-7GB with non download apps, i downloaded apps snapchat fb,and fb msngr, when i buy G2
????????????????????
my g2's still gong strong. as a hand me down the mother in law loves it and wont be parted even for the g3 we have as she doesnt like the feel in hand and prefers the g2. its still performing strong.
OK, never flash a custom rom, always unstable and you need to change roms every 3-4 roms which is a pain.
Never download fb and messenger, download the lite versions.
If you're so old that you still download music, get a phone with sd card slot.
For me, custom ROM actually gives me way better smoothness, specifically I can vouch for AICP 7.1.2(AOSP was meh).
It's just much more smooth.
I just cant ever imagine going back to stock rom kitkat/lollipop even the debloated ones, all the small details and functions have been implemented well in AICP 7.1.2..
Surprisingly some apps dont work well with stock kk or L, once I got AICP 7.1.2 ,its back on track.

thank you developers and you cool guys for all your support!

Thank you so much guys for being able to flash soooo many custom roms on our dear land , i totally love this device and it has all the features and necessary requirements to be a primary phone, be it performance, battery life(exceptional) , a decent camera and an overall package, it was a total bang for the buck at 150 dollars ...Its only because of all devs (no partiality) that even today this device is having tons of awesome custom roms with good support..
But sadly i am leaving you guys and this device too, as i today i have bought a 2 months used lenovo zuk z2 at about rs. 7000 (roughly 110 dollars) and will be shifting my primary device to that. But i siill love this device so much! It's hard to leave it , so i am giving it to my mom and guess what with an awesome custom rom installed (viperos 7.1.2 by impulsar)
In the end it has been an amazing 1.5 years using this device and it can still last for years to come with support of all devs until the hardware dies. Keep up the good work brothers! Cheers!

Bro actually i have bought zuk z2 from OLX for 7k, it's only 2 months old, isn't that a freaking awesome deal? Btw yeah, this phone is a beast, already unlocked the bootloader and enjoying validus 8.1.0 custom rom with front and back portrait mode working ,
It didn't got much attention cause of it's poor ZUi which is horrible and full of major bugs, also camera was average, and their are heating issues with stock rom, little do normal users know the worth of a custom rom on a sd820 it's awesome really,150K on antutu

Yeah! Now that's whom we call a shrewd whelp. ?I have never got my hands on an Android with the 800 series chipset! I wonder how fast the custom ROMs would run with that! It must be as fast as light. BTW, congrats. Enjoy the speed. :good:
A suggestion. Install the latest build of Nitrogen OS 8.1.0 on your mom's land. I am getting insane 16 hrs+ SOT on that ROM with moderate usage. And as you know, Oreo is simply Light-years-ahead of any previous version of Android. After installing it, the performance and battery life would be faster than ever before. And your mom will be happy(-ier). She would be charging her Android less frequently! Just do it.
*After flashing Oreo ROM on land, follow my thread on battery tips under Discussion section of land.

I have done all of that before achieving that SOT. You may tweak your z2's settings with the tips as well. And yes, don't root your mom's phone. Chances are that any spamming website would trick her into installing malware!! ? That's why all my battery tips are non-root. Cheers! If you want AdGuard, PM me.

Yeah bro thanks a lot! Impulsar's viperos 7.1.2 passes Google's safetynet out of the box, so need of magisk root, banking apps run fine But i need google camera portrait mode working as she loves it ,, so have to stick with 7.1.2 until 8.1.0 supports gcam .. btw you're awesome bro, you've unleashed the true power of our land device with these tweaks
I am already getting 8hr+ SOT on my zuk z2 with your settings on validus 8.1.0, while others are managing just 5-6 hours SOT coz the rom is still unoptimized... it's awesome considering z2 has got a 3500 mah battery, a powerful SD820 and a 1080p screen.
