Best ROM for 6p? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
sorry, I know those questions are so annoying. I just went through almost each topic here and there are so many roms! I can't even properly orient among them
I am proud new owner of Nexus 6p and looking for the best rom possible for me, could you please give me a hint?
1) best battery life possible
2) automatic updates (Android 7 asap ), I don't wanna flash again in the future, so it would be great if it's completely self-sufficient
3) I really like TrueCallerID implemented in cyanogen, is it also implemented in some other rom?
Thanks a lot!

I tried many roms on the nexus, in my opinion PureNexus & Dirty Unicors are great, you can also install ElementalX kernel to tweak cpu. Good battery life on both of them (4-6 SoT depending on your usage), bugless, stable, & frequently updated.
But I don't think that there's any Rom that will get an update android Nougat without a full flash.
Also Dirty unicorn has the CMTE, while the PureNexus has Substratum.

ok, thanks, so when I flash dirty unicorns or PureNexus, I know I will have to flash again in few months? (when there is Android 7 stable out?) I had OnePlus One with cyanogenmod till now and there was everything automatic (even complete upgrade from android 5.X.X to 6.0.0).
CMTE and Substratum are just apps for themes/skins, right? Which one has more adjustment settings?
And battery life people experiencing are the same for Dirty Unicorns and PureNexus? Thanks

I don't how it'll be for the updates to android 7, I think that PureNexus will be the first one to have Nougat.
CMTE has a lot of themes, substratum less themes but more adjustment settings. But you have more customization on Dirty Unicorns.
I tried them both, battery life seems to be the same I've got an average of 4h SoT with my usage using DU (always on mobile data, screen brightness on maximum auto) the battery lasts a long day at least, so no problem for, both are very stable.

Battery life depends upon kernels settings and your usage
Dirty unicorns uses a custom made kernel by them where as pure nexus uses Google kernel with additional commits
My daily driver was pure nexus but then it shifted to substratum which i dont like and the best rom for 6p with cmte is DU
So choose from this
Do you want substratum? Then PN
Or you want cmte? Then DU
I like cmte more but its just personal preference also the fact that you can change icons system wide using cmte and not in substratum
Cheers

What issues? The stuttering sound issue was fixed last month (finally) and it seems to be working fine now.

[Q] CM based rom with PIE

Hi guys, long time loyal PA user and tired of waiting for them to merge ThemeManager, want to switch to any CM based rom which has PIE functionality and properly updated.
Is there any such ROM out there? Original CM will not support PIE ever, so anyone ported PA PIE to CM ?
you can try nexus 5 experience that is cm based and have slim pie , carbon but i don't know if it is cm based , and the developer of crdroid is working on a port of PIE from cm10.2 for his rom

Carbon does have PIE, but it's AOSP.
actually looking for a cm based rom because of theme manager, PA has no indication of including theme support.
Also if pie is there then it will be better, else might have to flash proper cm nightly

have you tried the app?, its pretty good

Beanstalk is amazing, and has Pie, Halo, multiwindow, immersive mode, Xposed baked in, and about every other feature you can imagine... It is CM based as well... Combine it with Hells-Core kernel and PA Gapps and it is rock solid, actually even with the stock kernel it is very good. I suggest it very highly.
You won't see many updates though, maybe 4-8 per year on average, this ROM is rock solid and extremely feature packed, when updates to come out they just work though, many ROMs basically use updates like a beta program, not Beanstalk. I don't know if it has the new or old theme manager, I don't use themes so I can't tell you... but it does have a theme manager.
Thanks for the suggestions guys, just clean CM latest and it's quite good till now, I feel there is slight performance hit from PA but I will take that. CM has expanded desktop so no need of PIE any more. Was tired of PA, they still haven't managed to incorporate hybrid let alone theme manager.

What ROM are you using and why?

Hi all! Here you can share what ROMs you use on the Moto X Play device. Why have you chosen that ROM, what's the name? And if you want link the download for other users to see! :good:
RR - Best stability, Best customistaion
XDrom, for privacy reasons
1) rr
2) krexus
3) tesla
4) xosp
all with multirom
Just for fun, I'm a flashaholic.
I use XOSP ROM at the moment as big fan of sony xperia software. Might try some of your suggestions as well though.
Custom Rom: RR the best, stability, customitation, battery life!!
Stock Rom: Epsilon v1 : stability like a stock with included squid kernel
Its so personal. I like it simple and clean. Stock or debloated roms only. Mostly i get lost in all the extra settings and menu's and realize I never gonna use and need all this extra stuff that ruins my sot and return to stock the next day.

I find that as well, although have started experimenting with those settings. I am now experimenting with the Resurrection Remix ROM. You should definitely check and experiment with the settings at some point.

Yup, its the most feature rich rom. Happy experimenting. Why i chose RR is because there are no bugs for me like the camera hdr bug or inability to store to sd card through inbuilt cam. Also its officially supported by themes.
Stock ROM with Xposed because I like the stability and battery life is good.
Cyanogenmod 13 and RR are good but their battery is really bad,im on stock and is the best.
i always end up back on stock + xposed on all phones i got .
For me the best is plain CM13. Has all the features I use and more and most roms use it as basis for varous thins like security updates.

AICP. 'Cos the OTA update works, and the nighties mostly keep up with the latest CM13 updates. And AICP Extras!

Smoothest rom overall?

The main thing for me is smoothness and snapiness.
Im asking a real g33ks who have tried alot of rom.
i'm not using XDA daily but i'v tried roms before & all i can say is that each rom is good in some areas , So go to Developer Section & try some yourself & see what's best for you.
I personally like Sultan's Rom for Battery & Smoothness
For me AICP is the best

AOSPA by far. It may have a few bugs, but in terms of smoothness it's the best one by far. Also for me it's the most stable.
Definitely AOSPA

But even the smoothest rom is subjective imo...for me the smoothest is really aospa. I have seen some users praising rom x or y for being the smoothest rom only to get a bit disappointed when I went to try them. Aospa is really awesome for me. It still lacks a few features but it's cool=p
With amazing kernels like boeffla and blu_spark any Rom can be smooth like butter.
AOSP caf roms are best in side of performance
they will perform better than CM based roms
But I prefer CM based roms because of battery life
I am using Sultan rom its one of the best in side of performance which based on CM and also have a great battery life
After tried various of custom ROM availables for our beloved OPX, I came to the conclusion: OOS + BluSpark kernel is the smoothest for me. I'm stopped flashing custom ROM and just stick with OOS + BluSpark
I gotta say hydrogen os is the fastest on my oneplus x with blue's kernel. However its not for everyone as its heavily themed

Sultan's CM13 or Krexus for me.
H2OS feels like the software made exclusively for the OnePlus X hardware. Tried Oxygen and CM and somehow it always felt like either on a ported ROM or a beta one.

My favs are Purity (I'm using it right now, and you can find it on g+) and Aospa (is in early stage for now).
Dirty unicorn no need tweak get 6+ hour sot
PA is nice and smooth. Everything is working fine and fast. Nearly 6 hours SOT on moderate use. Lasts for a day.

Any hope of porting Paranoid Android?

So Paranoid Android is back and I really feel a ROM like that is what this phone needs. It would be really great to see it ported to this phone and it would give us more options and the community a much needed boost. Is it possible to port it over and if so is anyone willing to attempt? I would try to do so myself but I don't even know where to start and unfortunately my computer just took a dump so I don't have anything to build on.

Completely irrelevant the shape this phone is in when it comes to modding is absolutely horrible, we could surely use another and more well known ROM such as paranoid, take your negativity elsewhere.

I'd prefer MIUI or Flyme maybe... There are a bunch of roms that seem identical to me, like AICP, RR, NucleaROM, AOKP

^ This. I have scrapped the web for a single hope of MIUI or Flyme. Na-da. It's very sad. Those are some of the most beautiful-looking ROMs you can grace your phone with. Posted requests on MIUI and Flyme forums a while back. Nothing D:
It's sad, really. I know the devs are really doing their best with updates, and we appreciate it, but the slew of same-looking ROMs is fast becoming stale, imo.

Tbh I never used MIUI or Flyme even though I think there was a MIUI port on my previous phone, thea. But I hoped I would be able to try some day.
And the people that are trying to do stock-based ROMs just delete some stuff and add a couple of features, maybe change the UI a little bit... I'd love a stock based ROM with a different quick settings drawer and stock Android icons, plus NO ONE is doing any kernels for A2017G stock, literally NO ONE
Lol, let's hope a Dev will be kind enough.
I had Flyme on my One M8 last year. It wasn't a very good port, kernel-wise; battery consumption was over the roof, but the UI alone made me use it alongside S-Rom.
The stock rom provided is just plain bad and not a good base to work on.
The other choices are asop based or lineage based with add this feature or remove that feature, how much can you really change?
As for MIUI to iphoneish.
I think everyone should be glad that you even have choices. IMHO
If you really don't like what is available research on how to build your own.

GSI ports for Axon 7

Hey everyone
Im wondering if anyone has had the chance to try out any of these ports on their Axon 7. Here is the thread with the issues and instructions on flashing and other files to use:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...velopment/pie-erfan-gsi-ports-t3906486/page21
Here is the page with the GSI ports:
https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/gsi/
Im eager to try 2 of them but there doesnt seem to be a lot of info with the Axon there and many are reporting issues with other phones. Has anyone here tried any of these and had success?
most users with other phones reports issues.
a month ago i tried 2 but none of them booted,im not gonna try again

Those are custom ROMs though. The link is about direct ports from different manufacturers like Samsung UI, Zen UI, Oxygen UI and MIUI. Someone was trying to create bootable GSIs from direct ports of those OSs. I only saw one Axon 7 owner there that tried and now Im looking to see if any other users have tried as well.
Oh, I see.

Out of curiosity, Do you personally have any issues with the current build of HavocOS?
I saw that someone might have a Flashlight Problem, do you?
If you use your device a lot, how long is your average Screen-on-Time while on Havoc?
I'm wondering because I am still on the old RR-O 5/11/18 Kranoner build (still pretty stable, but bad SoT) and am itching to jump to Pie, but want a stable experience.
I just don't have the time to experiment with each recent GSI to see what does and doesn't work.
I remember in the other Pie GSI thread, there was a post many months ago about PixelDust having close to 7h SoT, Do you know if there are any other stable GSI's that work on Axon 7 that have this kind of SoT?
Thanks!

Most GSIs have pretty much the same SOT, it depends mostly on the state of your battery (i.e. if it is more than a year old you won't get that kind of SOT) and also on your vendor (Speedy 6.2 is the best right now) and kernel (Baddar RC1.1)
You may get 7h SOT if you use it VERY lightly, but I'd say it's closer to 6h with a new battery

I'm using AEX but don't really use the axon as daily driver since the screen is completely dead. The system is still completely stable though, via scrcpy

It's unstable because of the (non-Speedy) vendor you're using
BTW you'll have to clean flash in order to change the vendor

Hm... I did flash Speedy vendor and Baddar Kernel.
That lead to major graphical issues, so I wiped data.
That helped, it's running better now but still not perfect. Status bar / quick access freezes sometimes.
Do I need to wipe again and flash in another order?

You need to CLEAN FLASH. which means wipe system, data, caches, then flash the vendor, then the ROM, then GApps and Magisk, then the NFC fix (The first one by Kountry is the only one that works for me) and then reboot
install speedy 6.2, havok 2.6 and gapps. that ROM is rock solid. don't need to install custom kernel or NFC patch

But you do. The NFC stuff is not related to the ROM, it's the vendor, and all seem to require it. And not installing a custom kernel (i.e. Baddar, because it's the only updated one) means you're stuck with Speedy's kernel, which is not bad but is not as good as Baddar
After some time waiting for the GSI roms to appear, I was surprised and disheartened to still see folks having problems with their Axon 7. I thought the introduction of Treble support would allow everyone access to many ROM updates but instead it seems like there's work involved to tailor each GSI for their particular phone.
I thought it was Google's intention to have these GSI's flashed to any phone supporting Treble without much developer involvement. Did I assume too much?

kind of. We don't have a vendor made specifically for the phone, since treble didn't even exist when this phone came out. People have been making them over time.
But again, what's the problem? NFC/hotspot? You are supposed to flash the patch after the first boot. V4A not working? Only a few have that.
V4A works for me, I have havoc 2.4, Vendor_Project_Treble_Axon7-by+Kranoner, and I install V4A with magisk 19.3 , and I also use "NFC_Hotspot-Universal.zip"
