Has the N7 calculator always looked this?

That would be samsung knox.
If you are rooted you can freeze these in Titanium Backup but it still might come back. Started with 4.3 I believe

Only if your stock recovery, it your using twrp or cwm it will brick.

I haven't installed any recovery, if I install this update will I be able to install twrp or cwm?

Happened after I flashed a recovery won't go away no matter the rom
